Amos - Bible Study for Women with Video Access: An Invitation to the Good Life

Rate this book
Amos is often called a prophet of doom. And when you begin to read his prophecy, it doesn’t take long to realize that nickname fits. On the surface, his prophecy doesn’t sound like a happy formula for the good life. However, every condemnation he gives serves as an invitation, a cry for us to “seek God and live” (Amos 5:4). You’ll be invited to live assured, faithful, chosen, humble, justly, prayerful, and hopeful. This kind of living will bring us and others around us peace and true prosperity.

Amos is promoting the God life, and, the God life is the good life!

Jennifer Rothschild is a recovering perfectionist who has learned to live beyond limits ever since her life drastically changed at the age of fifteen, when she lost her sight. Now, more than 30 years later, she boldly and compassionately teaches women how to find contentment, walk with endurance, and celebrate the ordinary.

She's the author of ten books, including the best-selling Lessons I Learned in the Dark, Self Talk, Soul Talk, the popular Me, Myself and Lies Bible study, and her soon to be released, God Is Just Not Fair.

As a speaker, author and accomplished singer-songwriter she travels internationally, offering fresh, sensible, Biblical advice to audiences who, like her, are determined to pursue healthy and fulfilling lives in spite of their circumstances. She has shared her practical and inspiring messages to arena-sized audiences across the country, and media outlets including Dr. Phil, Good Morning America, Life Today, The Learning Channel and The Billy Graham Television Special.

Jennifer is an avid listener of audio books, a C.S. Lewis junkie, and has a weakness for dark chocolate and robust coffee. She and her Dr. Phil live in Springfield, Missouri, and have two sons Connor and Clayton and a lovely daughter-in-law, Caroline. When she is not traveling, Jennifer enjoys nature walks, and riding a bicycle built for two.

Maybe even 3.5 or 4 stars. There was a lot in this Bible study I really liked but I did not love the way she would have you read a few verses and then jump around all over the Bible. I’m not even 100% sure we actually read every verse in Amos. I would guess that we did but it wasn’t done in the thoroughly, orderly, and comprehensive way I’m used to from inductive study. In fact I think I’m going to go back and study Amos again but do it inductively this time.

So far this review sounds really negative but I really did enjoy the study and would definitely recommend it! I also don’t usually like videos that go with Bible studies but I really enjoyed hers. She didn’t just rehash the same information from the study and she’s quite good at storytelling.

My Bible Study chose this book to study since it was a book of the Bible we had not studied. It was also the groups first Rothschild study and it won't be our last. She made us laugh and ponder lots of questions. We did the study along with the videos. Many of us completed the workbook between each session. The workbook was informative and had us looking at numerous Bible scriptures, not just in Amos. We all highly recommend this study. If you do, don't forget to use some of the online resources that were available... like Amos cookies and Fig Newtons!!!

Honestly not my favorite Bible Study. I participated in this study with the women's group at my church where we did the homework during the week and then once a week, watched the videos together and went over the discussion questions. I have heard great things about Jennifer Rothschild and her videos were actually pretty fantastic, however, the study itself was lacking. In a book study of a book that is this short, I would imagine we would read the whole book. But we don't - we jump all over the book with random verses and then throw a bunch of other references to look up. Each week is a different identity/ theme that we learn about and it feels more like an agenda that Amos was manipulated into fitting than things we learn from Amos itself. There is a lot of good things in the study and the homework - I liked the Justice week and Intersession week best - but overall, it ironically feels pretty disconnected from the book of Amos at times. I also found that a lot of her paragraphs in the homework felt like an attempt to speak in her voice but came across more like unprofessional tangents that should have been edited out by an editor. I also COULD NOT STAND all the times I was told as a reader to post something on social media or take a photo and tag the book or do anything social media related to market the book. I get that that helps with sales and also brings in more readers but it just felt so gross in a Bible Study. Especially when social media is so performance based and not necessarily something we should be encouraging women to keep in the front of their minds and pursue during their quiet time with the Lord.

A solid 4.5 for my first completed Bible study of 2023 with the ladies group from my church. We've done a couple of Jennifer Rothschild studies in the past, and I have enjoyed them. This one was no exception. As we had previously studied about "our guy" Haggai, we now focuses on the minor prophet Amos, and how his book leads us to the good life. Each week was focuses on an aspect of the good life, such as living assured, living faithfully, living chosen, living humble, living justly, living prayerfully, and we finished with living hopeful. An easy study, but a lot of good info, I really enjoyed it. More so because I volunteered at and attended one of Jennifer's Fresh Grounded Faith conferences while we were doing the study. Both were awesome!

I don't usually play the "favorite" card, but I am doing so now! After years of women's Bible study - all of which were wonderful - I have found my all-time favorite (at least for now! LOL!)

Jennifer Rothschild is not only a talented speaker, she has a way of writing that reaches deep into my soul. I loved the way she set her themes to focus on the positive edges of the disastrous prophecies that Amos made. So challenging!

I will be going through this study again and again. Way too many gems to catch all of them in just one pass!

While Jennifer had great questions that made for good group discussion, this wasn’t a Bible study. It was loosely based on the scripture, using topical themes and cherry picking from the book. I don’t feel like I walked away from it knowing my Bible any better. I do know the ladies in my study better and we grew in some areas, but overall not a study I would ever recommend to anyone.

I joined this study mostly for the group aspect and loved that, and I hadn’t done an in-depth look at Amos before. Nothing against the author, just not my favorite, but of course I learned and enjoyed new tidbits!

Loved this Bible study on the book of Amos & how Jennifer turned each condemnation into an invitation. Such a great perspective! Living Hopeful was my favorite chapter. Jennifer is an inspiring teacher & I learned a lot from her about Amos.

Excellent study on the book of Amos. I have done several of Rothschild's book and this is one of my favorites. The videos were great and a had a lesson of their own instead of regurgitating the homework, Jennifer is so personable and authentic. I highly recommend this study.

This is not the bible study book at all. Not
sure what to call it a synopsis maybe 🤔 but is definitely not a kindle version of the Bible study lesson book.

I have a better understanding of this prophet and the book. I loved the deep side into scripture that brought it all together.
