Brittany and Leslie had been friends since childhood… done everything together. Today they are heading to the bus stop to catch the 308 that will take them to Griffith University. They are about to start new lives as Social Work students and they can hardly contain their excitement.
As they wait a handsome young man, wearing a shirt that proudly proclaims his Aboriginality, smiles and speaks to Brittany, “Hey, what’s your name? I’m a black fella just like you.” With these words Brittany’s life and future is challenged in a way she could never have thought possible.
The Empty Crib will take you on a journey with an eighteen year old girl who must suffer the pain of separating from her loving white family and friend in order to uncover the truth. “It was as though she was split in two… Which world would she choose?”
I really wanted to like this, as the message and story behind this book is so important and valuable. However, the story jumped around a bit so I struggled with losing interest throughout.
Despite this, and the writing style, I would still really recommend this book, as I do think that it is still so important to engage with the message.
