How to Preach the Psalms

Rate this book
Psalms are poems, and as such, they appeal to our emotions, imagination, and aesthetic sense. But that appeal is muted in sermons that force them into a homiletical mold better suited to didactic material. In these pages, students and seasoned preachers alike will find proven strategies for preserving the "poemness" of the psalms when preaching these matchless texts. Sample sermons are included to allow readers to see these strategies in practice.

Helpful book for preaching the Psalms

Although this book left some things to be desired and seemed to be unnecessarily dogmatic on a few topics, I found some very helpful ideas and important reminders.

Yes! One of the most helpful preaching books out there for those seeking to improve at preaching generally and must be considered essential reading for anyone looking to preach Psalms. The insights into faithfully recreating the emotion and impact of poetry in preaching were particularly helpful.

Concise. Well-written. Faithful to Scripture. Insightful. Immensely helpful to this pastor as I preach Psalms 73-89 with my congregation. The whole book I kept thinking “Yep! This guy gets it.”
