Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the prime suspect. Now Percy has ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
Ah.....so I thought this was the actual script for the musical.... it was the script for the songs, aha. I liked seeing them in this fashion, but at the same time, I have the playlist on spotify so I did not really need to read the lyrics in book format....rip.
I was lucky enough to see the musical twice, and I will say knowing the characters, their voices, and the songs made this so much more fun to read. Even if you haven’t seen it in person, this is still a super fun read for any Percy Jackson fan. I also recommend listening to the soundtrack if you can. It just adds a little extra magic to the story.
I read this whilst cheekily watching the bootleg online and I cannot express enough how perfect this musical is for its demographic and for all theatre geeks who are apart of the PJO fandom👏🏽
The stage adaptation of Rick Riordan's best-selling novel is the closest thing to perfection I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. The book by Joe Tracz creates the solid foundation for a show that is vibrant, funny, and meaningful, with top-notch musical numbers by Rob Rokicki and intricate choreographies performed by the small but mighty cast.
Everyone should see this musical if they have the chance, and at least read the excellent script and listen to the original soundtrack, which is worthy of the best Broadway musicals.
i really loved this script! it was fun to read along to the soundtrack and get fully immersed in the story :) i’ve been in a reading slump trying to get through the iliad so i figured i could get a quick fix of greek mythology through this and get back to it lol❤️ but obviously there were parts that were overlooked from the book because it’s a musical but overall it was great! 4.1/5⭐️
One of my favorite musicals that I actually got the chance to see during its Broadway run. I have the entire musical score, the album on vinyl, and now this libretto which allows me to see the breakdown of the lyrics and the incredible storytelling that continues to capture my attention time and time again. It’s fun, it’s quirky, and according to my PJO obsessed friends - it’s pretty accurate. It never fails to make me smile and sing along, which cannot be said for every show out there.
