this is the new textbook for the Building Technology studio I teach and coordinate for the 3rd Year class at U of A. Very accessible, current in its information, with good contemporary case studies.
Honestly, Constructing Architecture: Materials, Processes, Structures is the sort of book that works best when you know nothing about it. Andrea Deplazes guards the surprises carefully, and the less you read about it first, the better. It's got a couple of rough edges. Great for blind readers, skip if you need reviews to commit.
What got me about Constructing Architecture is how Andrea Deplazes demonstrates that the most effective cage is the one you build for yourself out of fear of social rejection.
