What is the truth about running technique? Can you really change it? Is it just about changing your cadence or foot strike? Or is there more to it? Can it really make you run more efficiently and run faster? Could poor technique be what’s really causing your running injuries? What do you need to do, to become a better runner?
Who Taught You How to Run? Will answer those questions and debunk common running myths. The Running School Method, based on the Movement Re-Patterning methodology, has helped thousands of runners run better, run faster, and reduce injury. We want to show you that technique training is not just for elite runners with specialist coaches; almost anyone can change their running technique. This is because our movement maps get created and “wired into our brain” through practice, the way that we train, and the way we move. But they can also be disrupted by injury or bad habit.
Discover a powerful set of tools, exercises, and training programs that you can use to re-educate your running technique to help you run faster and reduce injury.
Follow the eight-week training programme to transform your running performance. Each lesson guides you, step-by-step, on how to improve your running technique - what to change and how to practice. It includes a comprehensive exercise library to improve muscle activation, mobility, strength, and proprioception.
Mike’s book is straight to the point and does what it says on the cover - he breaks down the fundamentals of running and the rationales behind them to make you run at your optimum safely.
I knew a lot was wrong with my running, but I didn’t understand what those “wrongs” actually were. For example, I’ve discovered I’m a “twister” when I run, crossing my arms over my midline with each arm stride making my torso rotate. That’s exactly what’s been causing my shoulder blade and lower back pain! This habit has also thrown off my elbow movement- my elbows have been flaring out sideways instead of driving backwards, limiting my propulsion forward and speed. On top of that I’ve been moving my arms from my shoulders rather than elbows creating an obtuse angle leading to more shoulder pain and wasted energy. Before reading this earlier today I had zero understanding of movement dynamics or how they impact the body. But the information is so easily digestible and leaves you realising that the problems are very simple (although challenging to fix).
I’ve tried some exercises from Session 1 already and it’s felt as if I’m re-learning how to walk- but that just proves how much I needed this book in the first place, and how much potential there is to become better.
Can’t wait to go through each session and see how well the programme works for me. I have high hopes :)
