After Subaru and his friends fail to retake city hall, the Water Gate City of Pristella is hit by a deluge of muddy water. Though Subaru vows to turn the tide, the Witch Cult’s Archbishops continue to plunge the city deeper into chaos, calling forth otherworldly beasts to sow madness and terror. With his allies scattered, Subaru bets it all on a gambit that could reverse his fortunes in one fell swoop!
So this is the book where things are at their darkest, Subaru has barely survived the fight with Wrath and Lust, Beako's in a coma, Emilia has been captured by Greed and half the heavy hitters in the team are MIA, there's chaos in Priestella and there's rumours of a deadly weapon the Archbishops are looking for.
Oh yeah and Subaru's leg is nearly falling off, he was injured badly and forces Felix to block out his pain so he can walk again to fight.
Holy crap this volume hits hard in every sense, we get serious development in the story of Garfiel and he's nearly brought to the brink of insanity, massive and seemingly insurmountable powers are shown by Archbishops and they're the lightweights of the group. I'm honestly floored by the astounding level of drama and fear put into this volume that makes me just want to pull my hair out in frustration because I have yet to read Volume 19! GAH!
Begining was extremely slow and difficult to get interested. It became more interesting as I advanced through the chapters, but it's still far from a stellar volume.
I was just so absorbed that I don’t know how I finished the book. Storytelling and characters were amazing as always. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
