Jonah Blackhawk knows trouble when he sees it, and Allison Fletcher definitely falls into that category. Ally isn't just the undercover cop investigating a case at Jonah's nightclub—she's also the police commissioner's daughter, which makes her off-limits. Though the two have to work together, they're constantly at odds, hardly able to agree on the best way to crack the case. The day Ally and Jonah part for good can't come soon enough, but a passionate embrace might have them changing their minds about each other…
Hidden Star
Bailey James can’t remember a thing. She doesn’t even know who she is, let alone why her bag is filled with cash, a gun and a large blue diamond. Desperate for help, she heads to the first detective office she can find, hoping that PI Cade Parris is someone she can trust—and with no options, Bailey doesn’t have much of a choice. Cade is sure the woman of his dreams walked through the door when Bailey first shuffles in, but he’ll have to convince her that she’s not a criminal before he can consider his love for her.
Nora Roberts is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 200 novels, including Hideaway, Under Currents, Come Sundown, The Awakening, Legacy, and coming in November 2021 -- The Becoming -- the second book in The Dragon Heart Legacy. She is also the author of the futuristic suspense In Death series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. There are more than 500 million copies of her books in print.
Not a fan of the Star series so just for Night Shield. Night Shield uses a favourite trope... Nora has a "type" and if you read enough of her books... you'll find them all.
First story was leagues better than second and it’s due to an incredibly unbelievable male character in second story - I mean I can believe him but not as a hero. I kept waiting for him to turn into the creep he came off as.
I enjoy reading Nora's books very much. They oftentimes take me beyond the natural realm. This one has two down to earth books, which I had assumed were two single stories, but no, low and behold, there's two more books to the second story that I had to buy. I'm a bit upset that I had to order two more books to get to the end of the series. Just put all three into one book instead of leaving a happy reader on a cliffhanger until the rest of the books arrive! Otherwise, as usual, the stories are well written.
The second story was book 1 in a 3 book series so now I have to find the other two books. That was very frustrating because I was not aware of this fact. Reading the back of the book didn’t help either. No mention of it being part of a series. The second book’s sequels are only e-books. I need paper books. If I had known, I would not have read it and been left hanging.
I liked this book. It was a quick, fun read for me. Enough background to make you care about the characters but definitely no slow burn in either story. The one thing that drove me crazy in both stories is that Nora refers to firearm magazines as “clips”. Regarding the first story of the book, no cop would call it a “clip” and it kind of killed some of the believability for me of Allison being a competent detective.
What a wonderfully suspenseful pair of books! I love Nora Roberts' works in general but this pair of police investigation vs. private investigation scenarios, combined with oh-so-steamy romances between strong-spined women and reasonable protective males, makes for an excellently engrossing weekend read. Now I have to go find the other books in both these series - time to re-read a few more of this author's work!
If I'm reading romance, I need a little mystery too, and these stories definitely fit the bill. In a way, they're very comforting, because despite their differences you know that the heroine and the hero will end up together at the end of the book. No surprises or twists, but sometimes that's just what you need.
When you want to relax and you want to read a romance novel, a feel good novel… From the start you know how the story will end. The two main characters will fall in love and will live happily ever after. The plot is not difficult and the book is easy to read. Not that exciting …. A book to read when you are on a holiday, lying near a swimming pool…
This book was just not my cup of tea. The lack of grip it had on me made me dread continuing. If you like the writing style of Nora Roberts then this book could be enjoyable, but its definitely an author who’s writing I’m not going to actively pursue in the future.
night shield: i was confused during half of it but i loved the build-up of jonah & ally’s relationship
hidden star: i liked it but i was confused during some chapters. i also didn’t like cade’s attitude toward his family but i loved cade & bailey’s relationship
One way to keep from being bored to death is to read one of Nora Roberts' books. Midnight Shadows does not disappoint. The two novels in this one book are really good and really keep you reading. However, I did prefer the second book over the first one.
I love NR. I feel like when the book has two short stories, the love story overtakes it all. I enjoyed the first story, night shield. However didn't finish the second one. Just too much lovey and not enough other stuff for me.
First book was head and shoulders above the second one. The characters were well developed and the tension was built naturally. Great plot and I wish there was a series with these characters. The second story was predictable and the supposed “protagonist” male character was borderline creepy.
This was a change from her fantasy trilogies. I thought they were both good stories. I found there are 2 other books to the hidden star story, so I will be looking for those.
I enjoyed both stories that were written in this book. I am definitely a new fan of Nora Roberts. The second story was a little much, but if you like romance -- oh romance it is!
