Shifter Escapes #2

The Wolf of Wall Street

Rate this book
Aurora Douglas is the beauty to Luis Pine’s (actual) beast.

He’s a pain in her ass, but he’s also her last chance at becoming an executive.
The only one to see her potential as more than a glorified answering machine.
She’s infuriating, but she is also the most competent assistant he’s ever had.
The only one to last more than a few weeks and match his infamous temper with a fire of her own.

She’s also his fated mate but doesn’t know it.
He knows it but doesn’t want to believe it.

This novella can be read as a standalone but takes place in the same universe as Bear with Me. Rory and Lou’s love story is a Beauty & the Beast retelling chock-full of Enemies to Lovers, Office Romance, Forbidden Romance & Sexy Alpha Shifters and is safe with NO cheating

Shifter/wolf romance. Give me more. This was just cute! It’s made me want to compile all the romances that include this particular element.

I have no complaints. Other than I wish it was longer. But it serves what a novella does. It makes you crave for more.

The way this book was written was SUPER unique.

It was very short, for one - only 130 Kindle pages - and it was split into two parts, the first from the heroine’s POV, the second from the hero’s.

The writing style was… kind of like storytelling. Like the character was recounting something that happened, rather than reacting to it in the moment. In some places it felt more like summarizing, but not (always) in a bad way*.

I enjoyed the competence of the heroine Aurora aka Rory, a go-getter and hard worker who knows how capable she is and easily handled her boss, Luis Pine. I’ve always felt conflicted about boss/assistant romances because I used to be an Executive Assistant and the actual power imbalance is dangerous, and the idea of hooking up with a boss is gross. Did I cringe at their accidental phone call? Yes. BUT, I liked the love story a lot, regardless.

*To finish: the ending was a bit rushed to me, but to be expected from a novella. And I thought that given the super short nature of the book, it was well done.

Aurora Douglas interviews for a job with the notoriously difficult to work for Luis Pine. His demeanor is such that all former assistants can’t handle his gruff style and stringent demands.

When Aurora meets Luis, there’s electricity in the air. She’s hired and Luis tries his best to flummox, fluster and fire her. He must NOT know about her. Aurora plays no game and is always two steps ahead of him. Nice try! Boy bye! Highly Recommended: Read It!

I enjoyed this book so much, the banter and steam is stunning! The mc Aurora is a new favourite she is amazing, I adored her strength and ambition. She knew her worth and wasn't going to let herself be pushed around, no matter how hard Luis tried.

Beauty and Beast vibes definitely there as get to know each other, soften over time and develop feels as talk more. Very sweet and soft, plenty of passion and the shifting aspect - the forest room was cool too. Their relationship is very heated and a constant push/pull, both standing their ground and finding a balance along the way.

Sadly due to length some parts were not allowed much development such as Luis anxiety with the outside world. There are some great coversations though and realisations, as he starts to work on himself and towards a future.

Overall a fast paced, entertaining and steamy read with a happy ending 💕

3.5 stars. The first half (told by the heroine) is very much the alpha boss, strong/competent executive assistant trope. The second half (from the hero’s perspective) is scared shifter and accepting fated mate.

It was fun and light. Definitely on the smuttier side for those who want to know.

This series is a delight. If you need a super deep plot or complex world, move along. These were the easy reading PNR novellas of my dreams. They were grounded in our world, just with shifters. We get a location connection between books 1 and 3.

They also choose a trope or relationship type and stick the landing. Lucy keeps it simple and executes it to perfection. Whether it’s forced proximity, boss/employee, or single mom, that’s what the plot centers around. It makes it easy to follow and satisfying in the conclusion.

I was most surprised by The Wolf Of Wall Street and Pre-Teen Wolf as I don’t typically love boss/employee or single guardian. Lucy proves me wrong by creating relationships I root for.

If you’re looking for something to read this fall, enjoy these! While only Pre-Teen Wolf takes place during the holiday season, all three a peak cozy romance.

Shifter

I swear Luis needed to be throat punched with the constant I don't deserve you loop. But we learn the reasons later and it was allowable. Auto and Luis workplace romance is hot and sticky which is a plus. They definitely work through more of the inter specie conversation than I've seen on page. Thank goodness Magda was there to get things on track but also remind Luis he can't make decisions by himself without Aurora because they will impact everyone. I want a book for Dr Chen 🤔

This is an enemies to lovers, shape-shifter romance novella, so it doesn’t dive deep into mental illness but it does have a lead with agoraphobia. Others treat his disorder with kindness, and we do get to watch him take baby steps out into the world as part of treatment — albeit from the perspective of being ridiculously rich enough to have private areas, and a doctor on standby. Still, it shows him using the buddy system of taking a person he feels safe with to a place as he slowly works through the anxiety and fear. It’s also the only male character with agoraphobia on this list.

This is a sweet and sexy modern day telling of Beauty and the Beast. It's a short story which is divided in two parts telling each of their POV's. The author brings strong characters in Luis and Aurora and paints her scenes perfectly as she brings this entertaining story to life and delivers a great novella.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Will he be able to overcome his fears to give them a chance …

I did not know this author until I was stopped from scrolling down arcs on offer. It was the cover that did the job.
And that it was a novella, too.
As I have not really any more room to fit one more book in my tight September reading schedule, so a novella, why not.

This was not the story I was expected.
First it is divided in two parts, each offering one POV, so their thoughts do not crisscross.
So we begin with Aurora’s.
She is what is best in her line of job, and she knows it. Why she is unsettled when she unexpectedly drawn to her new employer. A man who never leaves his building, surrounded by a cloud of mystery.
Luis’ plays hot and cold with Rory’s emotions, so much she does not know what tomorrow will entail. He can be kind and caring then a real jerk.
He is a convict in his own gilded cage, scarred to feel and thus pushing everyone away.

A sweet and sexy retelling of the fairytale with a not so beastly hero and a heroine who takes no prisoner.

3.5 novella stars. Interesting read. Aurora is a Exec Assistant extraordinaire, doing the job no other ea can handle. When she gets assigned (bribed) to work with Luis Pine she sees it as both a challenge and a way to learn from the best, because her real desire is to be a ceo.

I liked the relationship. It was interesting. Luis’ hang ups were a bit off for me. Because his father buried himself in work Luis became agoraphobic? I’m not sure how much I buy that. Also her feeling like she deserved to jump from ea to ceo and the only thing holding her back was her race and gender was pretty off putting and this delusion clashed with her typical sensible nature. I just couldn’t buy it given her character. She has a bachelor’s degree, no masters, never was a manager or was over staff, went to law school but never took the bar. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but she decided being an ea paid more than a judicial clerk so she CHOSE that ea route then blamed everything else on why she was there instead of somewhere she decided was better and where she decided she deserved to be. 🙄 BUT, the relationship was overall okay and their antagonistic beginnings morphed well into fated mates sort of deal.

This was a great read and the 2nd book that I have read by Lucy Eden and I’m becoming a fan. I love the whole pretense about “The Wolf Of Wall Street”. Luis Pine is known as the wolf of wall street. His is a wolf shifter in hiding, no one knows that is a wolf shifter; he is CEO of his investment company. He has a demanding personality, arrogance and bad attitude. Aurora Douglas is an executive assistant and she is excellent at your job. Aurora seems to be the only employee who can handle Luis all of the employees quit as soon as they started. Aurora is falling for her boss; in fact she is lusting after him. Luis is the ultimate alpha male and is trying his best to push Aurora away but she isn’t leaving; because he knows that Aurora is his fated mate. She has other plans of being an executive.

When Aurora finds out the Luis is a wolf shifter will she stay or leave? Pick up your copy to day if you’re into paranormal shifters. You will not be disappointed.

I was happy that this "beauty and the beast" story wasn't the typical sassy secretary / tyrant boss workplace romance where the heroine just talks back to the "beast" until he finds himself turned on by her. It turns out that the "beauty", Aurora Douglas, is a professional and brilliant badass. I loved that she was so headstrong and such a smart heroine that she not only made a huge impact on the hero, Luis' heart, but significantly changed the morale in his company. Luis is supposed to be such a hardass that his executive assistants routinely cry and quits on him. It turns out that he is an insecure wolf shifter with, what I'm guessing, agoraphobia. I know that his character is dealing with anxiety issues, but I grew impatient with him and even stopped rooting for their coupling after he threw Aurora out the second time. Other than that, I read through plenty of tender moments that made this a satisfying romance with a beautiful HEA that made me very happy for ol' wishy-washy Luis in the end.

Lucy Eden effortlessly pulls you into her rich and nuanced stories. In The Wolf of Wall Street, we meet Aurora Douglas, Executive Assistant Extraordinaire, and Luis Pine, CEO. Aurora is a talented and intuitive assistant (hoping one day to be an Executive); she will need to be in order to keep up with the socially challenged but brilliant Luis. What she doesn’t know about Luis is that he is a wolf shifter and almost never leaves the building. From his first meeting with Aurora, Luis is aware that she is his mate; however, he is too closed off to accept that she just might want to be with him. I love Ms. Eden’s take on the Shifter Verse. Writers create their own version of the lore and I enjoyed her description of Luis’ rituals and mores. Once Luis allows Aurora to meet his wolf will he be able to accept the love she offers, or will his insecurities push her away? I totally loved this story and its construction. My favorite stories always tell two sides of the story….so we hear from both Aurora and Luis. And how cool was it that just as I was mourning the end of the story that when I turned the page there was a cute and detailed epilogue!!

Love concours fear

It was a sweet loving story that reminds me that love can overcome any fear that we have. I liked Luis but I loved Rory. She was the smarted person in the room but more importantly she was the smartest person to deal with the cranky Luis. This was a enjoyable fun read. I’ve read many of Lucy’s books and I appreciate immensely the diversity in them. There are diverse ethnicities, diverse issues, and diverse personalities. There is even diversity in the human and shifter matings. I don’t know if she consciously wrote them like that but I appreciate and love her for it. Until next time y’all happy reading.

The first half of the book was written from the perspective of the heroine but then it switches to the heroes point of view. This was a new take on the dual perspective for me but I liked it. I liked that the heroine was encouraging without being over bearing and I liked that the hero was vulnerable without being weak. Overall the balance was good and I liked the story. Surprisingly this was not only a different take on beauty and the beast but on shifters as well but it worked.

This is my second book by author Lucy Eden and it's just as awesome as the first book! I loved Luis and Aurora's story from the beginning to the end. Their chemistry was blazing hot and the plot was well written. This a fast paced romantic comedy fairytale type of romance that will make you laugh out loud and cheer for the couple. An amazing and awesome twist on shifter and fairytales romance but it is worth the read! Looking forward to reading more from author Lucy Eden.

Luis is a wolf shifter and Aurora's rich boss. She's his fated mate, but he fights against it. This story felt like it was missing something with him pushing her away twice and her just leaving. His reason for pushing her away the second time wasn't really explained and it seemed unnecessary. I don't think his concerns were well explained or the reasons why he didn't think he could have a future with her. We got an eventual HEA but I think I wanted more indepth emotions instead of what often felt like just surface feelings.

Accepting His Mate . . .

Aurora Douglas, an accomplished Executive Assistant, and Luis Pine, CEO, are the stars of this story. Part of Luis’ cold and hot behavior with Aurora stems from the fact that he is a wolf shifter, knows Aurora is his mate, yet doesn’t think she can accept him. Keeping himself isolated in the building doesn’t help with his anxiety either.

Will Luis take a chance on letting her into his world? Will he explain to her about shifters and let her decide for herself if this is what she wants? Or will he be too afraid to take the risk of rejection? They truly are good for each other because he sees the real Aurora and her talent that needs to be give a chance, and she has the courage to push back when necessary and be a true partner for him. They could be great together, but someone will have to make the first move. Grab your copy and find out which one…

an over-qualified assistant finds herself facing a number of surprises in her difficult new boss- and maybe, she might also have met her destiny

coming to terms with who and what he is has not been easy for Luis. Can he relax control enough to trust his fated mate, and himself?

What do you do when you are overqualified and have chosen to pick a job with an antagonistic boss. No matter what you do day and night he is after you. There is some drama. There is some mystery going on behind the boss. Why is he so cranky? Will he stop being so doggone cranky? It’s all things that Aurora needs to find out. But will you push her away before she gets her answers? No cliffhanger

Such a fun and very cute novella. Wish it was longer so that it could have been a bit of a slower burn, but nevertheless super enjoyable. I loved the premise. I was a little bit in disbelief that a woman with both an MBA and a JD was working in an executive admin role and thought that that would be the best way to become an exec in the c-suite, but it was kind of explained. Great, kick-ass heroine (who indeed would make a great executive).

i didn’t realize this book was apart of a series when i first saw it on tiktok, but after i read book 1, i wanted to read every book in the series. this one was really good!! i think i liked the first one a tad more. the mcs in this one were a little harder for me to connect to, but i still enjoyed it! this was more slow burn (relationship-wise) than book 1.

Honestly this author has some of the cutest novella’s. I really enjoyed this one (even more than the previous one in the series) and was super interested in the plot.

I usually am not one for retellings, but for some reason this one intrigued me and kept me interested the ENTIRE time.

I will say I did wish the epilogue was a little better and a little bit longer. I wanted more of a future take and it was more-so lackluster, but overall I was super happy with the novella

Another good, quick PR read

This was a good read that I really liked. This author's PRs are easy to enjoy.

The pages turned themselves and before I knew it, I was done! Luis and Rory have a great dynamic and her strength was nice to read.

I can't say what my favorite part is, without giving a spoiler, but I will say that the HEA was exactly what I wanted!

I recommend this author and this read.
