“People’s sadness were like puzzles. Most of the time we did not even have the right pieces to complete the picture and make it go away, but we try anyway. We try with what we got.”
the heart crash could be so smashing that even the heartbreaker could wind up broken. Guilt is sharper than glass, I hear
This is probably my first short story compilations that I've read in years, I've always preferred longer stories but this still warms my heart nonetheless. As any collection, there are some you are completely infatuated with and there are some you are less fond of. But this collection of words as a whole, is a beautiful one. I really really enjoyed the multiple metaphors that you get to interpret as a reader. You get to relate them to your own heartbreak and your own experiences.
The writing is raw, human, and painfully vulnerable, this was like a warm blanket covering you in the midst of a rainy day while listening to Taylor's Swift heartbreak songs. It's cozy with a hint of sadness. I expected the stories to be extremely sad but what I found instead was a collection of words woven with so much care and so much love but with a melancholy undertone tying them all together. These stories sometimes seems a little bit to personal to read, it was truly an experience to read something so from the heart and soul.
However, as much as I enjoyed and adore this book there was this line in particular 'how it was his last hope to being able to produce words and be as capable as a perfect human being' I don't like the idea that having a disability ultimately makes you less 'perfect' than one who doesn't. I guess the line made me a tad bit uncomfortable.
Nonetheless, this was a book that exceeded my expectations and gave me a whole new experience that I just hadn't had in a long time.
