Kirk Kilgrave has become my go-to author for supernatural horror stories. In In The Night: A Supernatural Horror Novel, he not only gives us a storyline that pulls you in from the first page, but he also gives us characters that we know. They are just like people that we see and engage with every day, which makes the supernatural and paranormal aspects of the story entirely believable. I found myself actually jumping a few times and looking over my shoulders. Then again, I do like reading books like this at night with barely any lights on. Even in the day, the characters totally engage you in what they are experiencing, so there may have been a noise or two that made me wonder about what or who is in my house.
Kilgrave had me at "Sixteen years before Book One-In The Shadows." I absolutely love that series, so the possibility of this book being a bit of a prequel to that series, was quite intriguing. Just when I thought I knew where the storyline was going, a twist took me somewhere else. This author is good with the subtle and not-so-subtle twists that bring about an audible WTF. With intense suspense, drama, and paranormal activity that makes your hair stand up, In The Night (like its predecessors) delivers an entertaining mix of my favorite genres. I am on edge to see what Kirk Kilgrave comes up with next!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dark. Disturbing. Powerful. I can’t imagine how trapped and helpless Travis must feel. Lorena is a horrible person and I can’t imagine how awful it must be to be married to her. This story was disturbing from the viewpoint of Travis and how frightened he must have been and that he probably was feeling useless and worthless. Hannah is an innocent and a victim to her mother’s crazy whims. And that revealing twist at the end? BRILLIANT! Even though it was disturbing I did enjoy reading it immensely!
This was a great story! I appreciated the bond and love between father and daughter and what he’d do to keep her safe! Wasn’t sure what to expect for the ending and it was worth the wait! I love horror stories, and although this one doesn’t have too much in the way of horror (in my opinion) it does have the vibe of one and it makes for a great story!
