Imagine waking to a world where every last human has been mysteriously turned to stone...
It’s the Kingdom of Science versus the Kingdom of Science! This showdown between Senku and Dr. Xeno is a race to see which side can take down the enemy’s science leader first! Despite the revelation of Dr. Xeno’s unexpected history and connection with Senku, Stanley’s deadly sniper rifle is already aimed right at the Perseus!
He is a mangaka from Tokyo, Japan. He debuted in October 2001 with Nandodemo Roku Gatsu Jū San Hi, and also wrote for the magazine Square Freeze and Love Love Santa, published in November 2001 and in February 2002 respectively. He later moved to Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, in wich he won the 7th "Story King" section in the same year.
What a small world—apparently, Dr. Xeno used to be Senku's mentor. Here I was thinking of peace finally, but it so happened that Senku and Xeno's main goals are not aligned, so it's still a bloody ending.
This was a good one and continues the battle of Science vs Xeno and Senku and we learn the backstory of who this Xeno guy is and how he was Senku's mentor technically answering his questions related to rockets in the past but then when the incident happened and then both awoke at the same time, and he is able to deduce the decoy of Taiju and asks his henchman to take the shot and Senku is maybe injured. Its a very elaborate ploy but changes things drastically going forward and its amazing to see how two men so similar are joined by the looms of fate and its the wits of their battle next! I loved this volume for the interpersonal drama and gives a worthy adversary to Senku now!
I actually really enjoyed this volume more than many of the previous ones. Dr. Xeno and Stanley are pretty interesting characters. We learn many things about their past, their perspective on the day of the petrification as well as their motives. This is a battle between two scientists: Senku and Xeno. Even though Senku is as smart as Xeno or even smarter, Xeno's forces are much more advanced. Things are getting really interesting and I'm loving it so far.
We are using more science but now it is the science of WAR as we use science to (oh no) KILL (that's bad) and the evil (bad) science guy (who is evil) is going to try and kill (evil) Senku (that would be bad). So evil. So dastardly evil. What a sniper (gun) that shoots (kills (evil)) and does bad (kill) science but not "baaaaad" (bad) science. So evil!
I really liked this volume and this arc looks super promising with the direction it’s going. I really like the connection Senku has with Xeno and how Senku’s having Chrome take over as the lead scientist. I really like Luna too and how she instantly falls in love with Senku. Good volume

I liked this volume! The usual humor and light-heartedness I love weren't here as much for... obvious reasons, but it was still overall really good. Senku passing the mantle to Chrome was the perfect way to push Chrome into developing himself further.
Imagine being fully conscious for thousands of years, stuck in darkness as if you were in a slumber you couldn't wake up from. In Riichiro Inagaki's Dr.Stone this was reality as on a random afternoon, a wave of green light is emitted from an unknown source causing all humans to petrify into stone. Thousands of years pass by and that's when Senku, a high school student with genius level intellect breaks free from the petrification. Through a stroke of luck he finds a cave full of bats giving him nitric acid, allowing him to save certain people. Slowly but surely he uses his knowledge of science to rebuild the ruined civilization of the past and finding the culprit behind the petrification of the human race.
Filled with fierce action through both text and illustrations to the comedy bringing out a lightheartedness, Dr.Stone checks all the boxes. It keeps you wanting more to see what kind of crazy contraption Senku's going to make next. Although I don't know how accurate the science behind some of the things built, it feels well studied providing great detail. For people who enjoy the idea of engineering/science mixed nicely with action and comedy, you will certainly be captivated by the story for many hours. After reading volumes 1-18, I can say with certainty that I will continue to finish the rest of the volumes from how good the story is going so far.
4.25 *Review of Volumes 16-18* Nooooooooo wait science is fun, whyyyyy Senku would you do something like thisssss? Now, as for the gags, I love the humor in this now, but I do wish they used different characters in gags every now and again for just the smidgen of character development for my other guys. I mean I thoroughly enjoy seeing Senku be so crass, Gen being our modern realist, and Ryusui being extra, but I would love to see some Hyoga snubbing. Maybe some Ukyo characterization? Actually, forget what I said about wanting a bunch of different characters showing up in gags, I just want to see Hyoga. The whole plot twist concerning Why man completely caught me off guard! Course now everything's gone off the rails with this new science enemy, but still, something to look forward to! Also, the art has been absolutely gorgeous!
The book was impactful, as I have already read the books prior to the 18th living in a world that has rested from all scientific development is no small feat. Dr. Stone was able to make me as the reader connect with the characters being able to be happy when they were as scared when they were also. The plot this time was scary exciting and so sad. I am still trying to recover from some cliffhangers meaning I guess I'll have to read the next book. The art style and writing are amazing and the artist Boichii is an amazing artist although I could criticize some of his artwork in the book. The book is not 100% perfect but it is an amazing and exciting read. There were many parts that had me on the edge of the seat especially while meeting the new characters introduced into this book. Though some content warnings may be the blood and language.
This volume does a really good job explaining who the new villain is and their connection with Senku and I am glad that Senku has a proper rival who is just as smart as him and how they represent a different view of science. Where Senku represents the wonder of science the idea that Science is meant for us to learn more about the world. Dr. Xeno represents a darker side of science the idea that science is absolute power which is seen in how his focus is on military grade weapons like Machine Guns and sniper rifles. My only problem is that it seems every major character had some major connection to Senku and I wished that Dr. Xeno was just a scientists that had no previous connection to Senku.
4/5 Fun volume. We see a little spy vs spy action. The enemy teams back story gets revealed and has its own ties to Senku. A lot of action this time around ending with a dramatic. Neat to see the to teams try to infiltrate each other. Senku being the good altruistic scientist and Dr. Xeno wanting to use his knowledge to rule humanity.
Senku, Dr. Xeno, & Stanley on the cover of volume 18.
I'm liking the new story arc so far. I wonder how far the series will go. There are many countries to visit before gathering all the supplies needed for space travel. Also, there are many millions to revive first. Dr. Xeno and Stan are formidable, but Senku and the gang are resourceful too. Chrome the scientist is the lead on this new project. Can't wait for the new volume.
Ever since I’ve read Bakuman I’ve noticed a lot more of the tricks mangaka use to tie things together. A lot of the stuff revealed I don’t think was intended from the start, but that’s not to say it’s poorly written. It’s hard to write weekly manga. I can just notice them a bit more easily. Still an extremely fun ride. A stand-alone chapter that doesn’t stand alone.
