New Orleans Malones #1

Damaged Princess

Rate this book
She was the princess locked in the tower. Cosseted. Loved. Protected.

And fading a little every day . . .

After being kidnapped and beaten, Lottie Malone retreated from life into the safety of her brothers' protection, intending to stay there forever.

What she didn't know was that there were two unlikely heroes waiting to free her.

Liam Carmichael has the face of an angel and a soul that he believes is dark. Emotionally stunted and domineering, he lets few people close and that's the way he likes it.

But the moment he laid eyes on Lottie, she was his.

His. And his husband's.

With bad boy good looks and a huge heart, Nico knows that Lottie needs them in order to thrive.

They want to share her, possess her, claim her.

They just have to work out how to do that without breaking her.

Please note: This is a mmf romance. The heroine has issues with anxiety and self-harm due to past trauma so please read with caution.

I’ve been waiting for the New Orleans Malones, and Lottie’s story in particular.
So,getting the ARC feels like a special treat, and i couldn’t wait to hear what happened.
She sounded so fragile, having to live with the trauma of being abused when she was kidnapped.
Not being able to even leave the house,to be around men, other than her brothers.
Except for Liam and Nico…..but they were gay,and therefore no threat…..right?
Lottie’s story was painful, but at the same time filled with hope.
To find a way forward,to deal with that trauma.
And possibly with the help of those two very sexy men that she felt were way out of her league.
Two men that kept insisting she completed them, that continued to show her she wás strong, and that they wanted her with them.
If only her brothers weren’t so damn protective, and gave them a chance….

It was a story of healing, and not just for Lottie.
A story of taking that leap of faith,to reach out and trust them to catch her,to keep her safe.
And at the same time,it showed two men that loved eachother unconditionally.
Flaws and all.
Two men that knew, without a doubt, they were meant to be with her.
In short,a beautiful story, one that i enjoyed very much!

4.3 stars.
This was emotional, and so loving, and sexy.

I really enjoyed Liam and Nico’s relationship, and how Lottie really just clicked between them when they got her to agree to be their third.

I also really liked how each of them worked with the other to assuage any self destruction of multiple kinds.

Then there’s the sex.
Most of it was just between Liam and Nico, which was hot and so loving, but it just felt more complete when Lottie was involved in some way. They all sort of balance each other.

One thing I will say, I was not a huge fan of that ending.
It was a sex scene that faded to black and I know it fit and blah blah, but I Hate fade to black of any kind.
If you’re gonna start something, finish it so I’m not left hanging on the good shit.

There was also a few minor spelling mistakes. Which honestly a few of Laylah Roberts’ books have. Thankfully they aren’t too distracting or frequent. Enough to notice though.

I still had a really good time reading this book.
I’ve come to expect that from this author. She’s an auto read for me and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
She knows exactly how to hit me in the feels while also raising my temperature just right.
Its addicting.

*spoilers* This story has it all. It kept me up, because I could not put it down, I read all books from Laylah Roberts and I just adore her stories! We met Lottie in previous books, she is hurt and can not leave the Malone's mansion because she has been kidnapped in the past. She is the only girl in the Malone clan and is coddled and spoiled. Her four brothers and cousins love her, but she is drifting. Then there are Nico ans Liam. Friends of her oldest brother Regent and she has met them over the years, even dated Liam's stepbrother before her kidnapping. She thinks they are gay, but they want Lottie to complete them. I do not want to tell too much about the story, but the feelings are so deep and the characters are so amazing developed. Every one is special and is more dimensional. Nico is funny and outgoing, but when Liam is not there he can also be dominant. He has his own story and is also hurt and sometimes unsure, also he appears to be so self confident. I loved everyone. The story is twisted and so enthralling, but also hot and entertaining. I wish I could give more than five stas. Thank you so much for this amazing story! I laughed, bit my nails and shed tears

This is a sequel of sorts to Jardin's Gamble. Here, we get Jardin's sister, Lottie, who suffers from PTSD due to a kidnapping two years ago. When her brother's friends, married couple Liam and Nico, see her, they know they have to have her, but can they convince someone who thinks she's damaged that they can make her happy?

I usually like this author, but this was flat-out awful. I have many objections, but I'll stick to three. First, I'm the first to admit that I'm not a ménage fan, but I will read it occasionally, even though I usually find the men either interchangeable or stereotypical opposites. Liam and Nico fall into the latter category: one dark and foreboding, the other cute and funny. It's a pairing I've seen a thousand times in these books and I devoutly hope never to see again. In addition, I find it offensive to LGBTQ+ people that this gay couple, who never evinced interest in women before, suddenly turn bi. I didn't believe in their attraction to Lottie at all.

Which brings me to my second problem with the book:I wasn't at all invested in the throuple. Their relationship starts en medias res (Nico and Liam already want her); later we get a complex backstory about how they've been connected to her for far longer than she thought. But, we don't see any of this; we just hear about it. Since we don't see the development of Nico and Liam's relationship or the buildup to their interest in Lottie, I took absolutely no interest in whether or not they got their HEA.

Lastly, the prose is enormously repetitious: everyone's endless concerns over Lottie's fragility and agoraphobia; Liam and Nico's constant rehashing of their pasts; Lottie's self-flagellation over the smallest thing. Easily half this book could have been cut and I wouldn't have missed anything; I know because I skimmed whole sections of it. I can tell you right now that nothing happens that isn't somehow related to whether or Lottie can leave the house until the 80% mark -- and what does happen is so telegraphed that the only thing more boring than the plural relationship was the mystery sub-plot

2 stars. No author can bat a thousand, and here Ms. Roberts totally strikes out.

Laylah Roberts hit this one out of the ballpark. Damaged Princess was fabulous. Liam and Nico had such hot chemistry. Not only were they sexy as sin but funny. Nico cracked me up. Lottie was such a mess. She needed help coming back from her nightmare. The boys did just that with love. Lets not forget the super hot spankings dealt by Liam. The three are now my fave! Kudos!

The couple: Liam, Nico, and Lottie

Romance genre: menage
Series: New Orlean Malones
Length: 358 pages

Plot: Lottie is the little sister of the New Orleans Malones - we've met her brothers and cousins before in the Haven series. She was kidnapped and suffers PTSD from that incident, and we got the backstory in this book. We also meer Liam and Nico, a married couple who would like to add Lottie to their relationship. They're both in love with her and they both feel guilty that she was taken and hurt. The battle they have to fight now is with Lottie's mental well-being and with her brothers' approval.

Commentary: This book finally helped explain what I don't like about this author's MMF books. I like her MFM books just fine, and the MM relationships are okay, but once they add the F to the mix, I find them not as compelling. I really wanted Lottie's story, though, so it occurred to me while reading that my problem was that the MM relationship exists outside of the MMF relationship (in all of her MMF books) - it usually existed before. So there were many scenes of Nico and Liam together in their relationship, and then Lottie was folded in. In some ways, it felt like the focus isn't on the three of them together, but the two separate relationships side-by-side. There aren't many scenes of Lottie with just one of the guys; that is to say, we're not looking at four relationships here (on the page, anyway). And when there is a scene with Nico and Lottie, it's usually to allow something else to happen, not as a means to develop their relationship. I guess that at the end of it, I feel like there's not a focus on Lottie after all and while that might make me selfish, I want her at the heart of it. The guys keep saying that's where she is, but I don't know if I felt that. I completely understood her brother's concerns in that regard. I feel that way in the other books in the Haven series that featured MMF relationships. This is just personal preference - the story was okay and I was glad to know what happened to Lottie finally.

I loved everything about this!

Lottie went through so much when she was kidnapped and watching her become the person she does by the end is honestly stunning. I love that she wanted to change for her.. she didn't just do it for everyone else. She is a such warrior!

Liam and his husband Nico have had their eyes on Charlotte for a while. Certain circumstances held them back but not any longer. When Liam wants something, he gets it. No questions.

I had so many emotions reading this. This is heavy on mental health and past trauma so proceed with cuation!

This has to be an emotional story , i say that because one has to feel sorry for Lottie and what she has gone though, but i love that she has two bi men who love her as much as they love each other.

Lottie, kept in a cage, or thats what it feels like to her, she cant go outside without a panic attack after what happened to her. Nico and Liam she loves them from afar but they are married. So they question is why are they suddenly intent on looking after her she really has no idea at all.

Liam and Nico, they both love Lottie and can see that she is getting thinner and thinner as the days go by, it seems that no one is looking out for her health. They decide that its now time to claim her as theirs, to make her part of their trio, if she will have them.

A definitely well written book, and another winner for Laylah Roberts. Its going to be exciting to see the rest of the family fall in love with the women .

5 plus stars . A great addition

Lottie may be the heart in the relationship, and the missing piece for Liam and Nico, but they are her strength. As someone who went two years without being able to walk out of the house, I found the protrayal of this trauma response very believable. It could be a trigger for some, so be aware of that. The trauma isn't ever clearly laid out and even though it's a large part of the story it's kept vague. You know basically what happened but none of the gritty details. The way Lottie's family treat her is also very believable and frustrating. Thankfully, Liam and Nico come to the rescue and show her who she can be. I love their gentleness and their firmness, in turn. I love that they are dominant men who know what a treasure Lottie is. There is a fair amount of passion and heat in this one. There is also danger, excitement, heartache, and the joy of watching a triad find their HEA. I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes.

CW: This book deals with depression and self-harm. It is also a MMF.

Note: I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and this my honest review.

This book kicks off the New Orleans Malones series from the Texas Malones in the Haven, Texas series. You do not need to read the other Malone books to enjoy this story, however it may give more enjoyment as, Laylah Roberts' books are in the same universe. This is a book about trauma untreated by Lottie and her over protective brothers. Liam and Nico are a married couple who want to make Lottie theirs and help heal her.

Noone does erotic humor like Ms. Roberts and this book has some great moments, especially Nico. There are a couple reason it is not a full five stars. I felt, which I never feel from a Laylah Roberts book, that the romance was rushed even though we are told they have known each other for years. There were so many subplots that still felt unresolved at the end of the story. Also, I wish we had spent more time with the brothers so we could enticipate their stories more. But all in all it was a solid effort and I did enjoy the characters.

MM is one of my favorite things to read and adding a woman to the mix (MMF) is another favorite. Lottie deals with PTSD as a result of being kidnapped several years ago. Her brothers have protected her ever since but that isn't helping, only hurting her. Liam and Nico are a couple but have been wanting to add Lottie as their third. How that will play out with her brothers was interesting. The author took great care when writing as far as events that can cause PTSD and I found them to be totally believable. I loved how Liam and Nico had different personalities that when combined, seemed to help Lottie. But what happens when they tell her brothers they want her? Will they be able to stop the guys from taking Lottie under their wings? This was such a good story and I've already read it again! There are references to past abuse that Lottie went through so be careful if that kind of thing is something that will trigger you.

The first in the series of the New Orleans Malones (but not really since we have Jardin's story), this story is about Lottie Malone (the lone sister) and Liam and Nico, the couple who'd love to have her as a third. Lottie has suffered trauma and I love how Roberts didn't gloss over the physical and mental aspects of her recovery. And there was no expectation that she would immediately be "saved" or made whole by this relationship. Instead she had to work at it. And sometimes she failed. But they were there to support her, love her and build her up. This was a story where these three individuals filled each other and made one another whole. I loved everything about it. Looking forward to hearing more about all the other brothers.

This is a very disappointing book. It is really a sex soap opera with so many biological sex scenes that the story holding them together doesn’t even seem to matter. Almost every cliche current in indie books seems to be found here. The sex scenes were so frequent and so similar that I began to skip them. I used to really like the Malone family stories but the last two bombed as far as I am concerned.

Ridiculously amazing

Laylah Roberts is a master at what she does.

Damaged Princess is no exception

Lottie, Liam and Nico take you on such a Rollercoaster ride and it's heart warming watching the men show Lottie how to start being herself again.

Really great, well fleshed out characters meet a soppy sweet romance filled with alpha marshmallows and sneaky bratty switches make this an impossible to put down must read.

One of my favs!

I loved this book! I loved the sassy chemistry between Lottie and Nico and can just imagine all the trouble they can get into with Liam! I’m happy to see that they all got their HEA and I can’t wait for more books in this series…especially Regent’s and Victor’s books! Thank you Laylah for another amazing book!

I really wanted to like this book but it just fell short. Felt very repetitive and the relationship seemed forced. Nico originally starts getting the three of them together and then once Liam starts to get into things with Lottie it seemed like Nico just faded in the background.
On top of that there were weird time jumps and the relationship developed rather quickly but in a very odd fashion. I feel like too many complicated unnecessary plot points were thrown in for no reason. Would have enjoyed this if it was just a story about the three main characters coming together. Everything else was just sudden bits or random plot that resolved itself rather quickly.

I was so excited for this book. We had been given glimpses of Lottie Malone in previous books and I was dying to find out her story. Lottie had been through so much but was still so strong and resilient. I loved Liam and Nicos relationship. They were so encouraging and loving. There were some really special scenes in this book. I also adored how protective Lotties brothers are. I hope we get to meet Regent in his own book soon !!

I have fallen in love with this story!!

I had been looking forward to the story of Lottie for months and when I learned that it would be a threesome and that her Doms are a bi marriage I was almost screaming with illusion. And today I finished reading the story and I have many things to tell.

First, I want to congratulate Laylah Roberts for creating the character of Lottie so well. She has managed to reflect the internal and emotional conflicts of the protagonist, her frustrations and her desire to return to being a "normal" person. What I have loved the most about Lottie is her willpower and her perseverance to change despite the fact that it is not easy and she has too much trauma from the past. Although Liam and Nico have been a source of support for her, they have not been the percussionists of this desire to improve, but it has been born of her alone and almost all of her effort has been thanks to her.

It has also been lovely to get into the Malone House a bit and get to know a little about the family dynamics of Lottie's siblings, which I absolutely adore, and I can't wait to read Regent's story. I love overprotective older siblings, and the Malones are just that.

To make matters worse, I have fallen in love with Liam and Nico, and I have to especially name Nico. I don't think I've ever had as much fun with a Laylah Roberts character as I have had with Nico. He has such a funny sense of humor, is gentle but relaxed and knows how to "tame" both Liam and Lottie. He is playful and perverted but he also knows how to get into Dom mode with Lottie and sometimes acts as the voice of reason for Liam, who has a black heart and sometimes tends to take things to an extreme. I love him so much.

The truth is that the three make a very good couple and combine perfectly. The three of them each have an irreplaceable place and they feel so relaxed and comfortable with each other that it is wonderful.

Anyway, I have been delighted with this novel. I highly recommend it, although I expected no less from Laylah Roberts. It's basically impossible for her to write a bad story.

A simply wonderful sexually charged read, strong characters and strong plot

This was a very special read that I thoroughly enjoyed, the characters are so well written and I cannot describe the plot as I do not want to spoil the story for other readers as it is simply an unbelievable read which once you begin you will not be able to put this book down until you reach the end and discover the final outcome.

Liam is a mountain of a man and to most he is considered as a brutal and dangerous individual that most people fear and there is only one person he trusts, who he loves, who he would die to protect and keep safe and that is his husband Nico.

Nico is everything that his husband needs and he knows that this man will give him the earth if that was what he needed to be happy. They both know what they need is their third and that is the sister of one of the hardest and largest families the Malones.

Lottie has been living in her brothers home now for over two years where she has been a virtual prisoner because of the trauma she suffered when she was kidnapped, she should have been improving but Liam and Nico could see she was too thin, pale and frightened to even enter the garden. However, when they discovered just how deep her frustration went and that she had been self-harming they knew that they had to make their move no matter the consequence.

The two of these beautiful men make Lottie feel safe and she knows that her brothers will worry but she has to start being strong, she wants to grasp her life again and they give her this strength.

Read this wonderful book and you will be totally blown away by both the characters and also the story.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I enjoyed this newest book by Laylah Roberts.

I admit that I am a bit slow and have not read the Haven Texas series yet. I'm assuming I would have gotten more context for Lottie's backstory if I have read those first, but I did not feel it was needed to understand or enjoy the story.

I prefer MMF romances where the men are also in love, and they aren't just sharing the heroine, so I really liked that we spent some time with Nico and Liam, following their dynamic and love for one another. They remind me of the sunshine/grumpy trope, but Nico is given some backstory which I think gave him a little more depth. The power dynamics were also fun with Nico being more submissive with Liam but dominant with Lottie.

I am on the fence with Lottie. I know such a horrific experience would cause some people to retreat like Lottie did, but I had wished there was a little more substance given to her than just her struggle with mental health. She felt like an archetype for PTSD sometimes, and I was hoping we would get to know her more as a person. It probably did not help that most of the conversations about Lottie were about how fragile she was and constantly talking about her trauma.

As always I liked how consent was handled and talked about. I always think consent is sexy but Laylah has a way of making it even more sexy in her dialogues. I also liked the exploration of different punishments or kinks depending on the individual, Lottie doesn't necessarily like or want what Nico does as a submissive and vice versa, and they talked about that which I thought was great.

Overall, I wish I got to know Lottie a little more outside of her trauma and trauma responses otherwise I enjoyed the book.

It's 5:03am right now and I've finished reading this amazinggg book!

✓ Standalone
✓ MMF & MFM
✓ TW: Heroine has had trauma in her past. She suffers with issues around self-harm and anxiety.
✓ Not exactly Mafia.

I wanna say so much about how I loved everything, the characters, the story, everything but I'll just say that this had the perfect combination of spice, steam, romance and darkness.

Apart from all this, I would just point out that the author @LaylahRoberts has very beautifully shown scenes between Liam and Nico together and scenes with them and Lottie. There was never a point in the whole book where one character was being given more preference in the relationship, the balance and growth is fantastic.

Also, can I get Nico? Or Liam? Or maybe both? With Nico, it was love at first sight for me and then when I got to know about Liam, I can't deny that I started loving him too. And both of them together in their own connection? TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONER & WATCH HEARTS FLYING IN THE AIR!

Filled with romantic dialogues, sassy characters and conversations, tons of steam, a storyline about moving forward, funny scenes (I was giggling @3am) and absolutely no plotholes, I've can guarantee that I've enjoyed this immensely.♡

Sweet BDSM MFM/MMF romance

No plot spoilers
No real potential triggers although there is reference to kidnap and sexual abuse. There are also descriptors of emotional pain and anxiety.
The characterisation is good, with clearly defined individual personalities. Personally I thought the BDSM element a bit laboured and couldn't really accept that it was used as a vehicle to aid recovery from the trauma Lottie had been through. Which then sort of begs the question of whether the abuse is the vehicle for the BDSM, and I find that idea incredibly distasteful.
So, I have mixed feelings about the way the storyline developed. In all other aspects of the storyline I was fully engaged, it developed at pace, with the right balance between show and tell and kept my attention enough that the book was read in one sitting.
There are quite a few sex scenes of both a BDSM nature and MMF/MFM as well as some swearing.
There are a couple of errors, mainly mixed tense with a couple of missing words, but nothing to irritate.
If you have read the author before you know the genre, if the author is new to you I would recommend reading the previous Malone books first because it does provide a backstory for this new series.
Either way, I have no problem recommending the book.
I am looking forward to reading her brothers stories, and would love to see more of Ace and Kier!

'Damaged Princess' is Laylah Roberts's first book in her "New Orleans Malones" series. Before starting the review let me remind you to read the author/publisher warning in the blurb. There is a trigger warning that needs to be acknowledged for those that are prone to triggers.
On the night Charlotte, aka Lottie, was kidnapped, the man she was dating at the time, Michael, broke up with her. Lottie is still in a pattern of panic and shock from the incident and doesn't know how to move forward. What she does know is that she's tired of being the broken victim that is too scared to live her life. Michael's step-brother, Liam, and his husband Nico had previously met Lottie at a family dinner. Both men knew that night they wanted Lottie for their own but circumstances changed, Lottie was kidnapped and tortured, and Liam thought it best to give her time to heal. Apparently, that wasn't exactly what she needed. Now Liam and Nico have to find a way to help Lottie come back into her own and for her to trust them so they can be a family unit because these two men will settle for nothing less. It's a wonderful heart full of emotion and chemistry with a bit of mystery involved with her brother's business. This makes me want to immediately start in on the next book of the series.
