I never expected the man I saw as nothing but a billionaire player to be the only person who could rescue me from near insanity. One moment, everything was perfect. I was finally Dr. Harlow Lewis, research geoscientist, and I was actually employed at Montgomery Mining Laboratories, the crème de la crème of labs for my specialty. I also had good friends, a supportive parent, and a budding relationship with a great guy. Add all of those things together, and it was impossible for my existence to be anything less than ideal. I had exactly the life I'd always wanted, until it...wasn't.
I guess I never realized that brief periods of perfection could instantly be followed by a nine-day, horrific hostage situation that would forever change the woman I'd been before that incident. Oddly, after my release, the only person who knew that I was struggling to get my life back was Jaxton Montgomery, my billionaire boss, and the king of one-nighters. Not exactly the perfect confidante, right?
The two of us barely spoke unless it was company business, especially after I'd turned down a date with him two years earlier. What rational female would want to have dinner with a man who was known for his one-and-done dating behavior?
Maybe Jax wasn't the guy I would have chosen to be the person who would drag me out of the darkness and back into life again, but he was the only one stubborn enough to do it. He systematically broke down all my defenses until I reached out and clung to him like he was the only lifeline I had. It wasn't until I got to know him that I realized that Jax was so much more than the playboy he was portrayed to be in the gossip columns. He was patient, he didn't judge, and he had a wicked sense of humor. Even stranger, he understood what I was going through, even when I didn't understand it myself.
J.S. Scott is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary and paranormal romance. She's an avid reader of all types of books and literature. Writing what she loves to read, J.S. Scott writes both contemporary erotic romance stories and paranormal romance erotics. They almost always feature an Alpha Male and have a happily ever after because she just can't seem to write them any other way! She lives in the beautiful Rocky Mountains with her husband and two very spoiled German Shepherds.
Billionaire Unexpected was the sixteenth book in JS Scott’s Billionaire’s Obsession series. It was the second book of the Montgomery brothers (Hudson, book fifteen, Billionaire Undercover), who were introduced as Riley Montgomery’s siblings in Enamored, book three of Scott’s Accidental Billionaire series. All books in the series can be read as stand-alones.
Jaxton “Jax” Montgomery owned Montgomery Mining Laboratories with his three brothers. He was former Special Forces before coming home to help run the family business. He also secretly worked with a civilian black ops operation, Last Hope, that rescued hostages. In the previous book, we learned of a rescue operation that involved Montgomery Mining employees. Enter Harlow.
Dr Harlow Lewis was a research geoscientist. While on assignment, she was captured and released, but she was still struggling months later after her return home. She was the lead scientist that put her employees in danger and she couldn’t make it past the grief and guilt.
Although Jax didn’t know Harlow well, he knew she was a shadow of her former beautiful, intelligent, confident and feisty self. He was determined to help her take back control of her life and move on. It didn’t matter that he had always been attracted to her and she was the only woman that had ever turned him down for a date, he could and would put all of that aside for her.
Scott took us through a healing and rebuilding journey while developing a strong friendship between the two, which of course, developed into more. It was an enjoyable read with a mixture of sweet and sexy while throwing in a few life lessons along the way.
Scott also set the stage for the last Montgomery sibling, Cooper, in the next book Billionaire Unnoticed. It has promise to be entertaining and fun while introducing us to a new set of alpha siblings!
This is book 16 in this series. Although it could be read as a standalone I was glad I had read the others. I love how the characters cross over between books and also series. Jax and Harlow are a wonderful couple, terrible circumstamces led to where they are, but something truly magical comes from the trauma. It was great to get some updates from Taylor and Hudson too. I am soooo looking forward to coopers story!
Updated - The audiobooks is really good too. The naration is perfect and easy to listen to. Really brings the characters to life.
Another HIT from Bestselling Author, J.S.Scott. The wait was truly worth it after reading Billionaire Unexpected~JAX
After being captured, Harlow and her co-worker Taylor go through a terrifying ordeal. It was quite an engaging prologue and it was tough reading through the ordeal that they both encounter. Harlow is completely at the mercy of her captors and for a moment begins to think there won't be an end to her suffering. She is about to give up fighting when in comes her rescuer. Jax comes in to save the day and will do anything to help Harper. But wounds are easy to recover from, those Harper has run deeper and will need love and time, which Jax is determined to give in order to help her. He is patient and it is in his alpha gene to protect the woman who has captured his heart. Their personal obstacles won't be the only ones they will have to overcome to find their HEA.
Another great read from one of my ALL time favourite Authors.
JS Scott has blown me away with Jaxson and Harlow’s story. This is the one I’ve been waiting to read. Jaxson, the playboy, meets his match with the introverted Harlow. Her story is not for the faint of heart, in fact it’s down right scary sometimes. Ms Scott was able to capture so many emotions...fear, guilt, depression, and then love. Jax may have started this healing journey with Harlow for selfish reasons, but he proved to be selfless. Just a beautiful, entertaining read!!
Billionaire Unexpected, a great addition to this series, this is Jax and Harlow's story. Jaxton Montgomery co-owner and CEO of Montgomery Mining has a reputation in the media as a playboy a love them and leave them kind of man, but there is so much more to him than anyone realizes. Harlow is a brilliant geoscientist that works for him, Jax has always had his eye on Harlow and even asked her out and she turned him down flat believing the stories about him in the media are true.
This book starts out with a heart-pounding prologue, Harlow and her co-worker Tayor have been captured in a foreign country what they both experience is heartbreaking and it leaves Harlow broken and afraid. Jax wants to help Harlow recover and get back to being the woman she once was, he does everything he can to make her feel safe again.
I loved this book because the relationship between Jax and Harlow wasn't rushed he took his time with her made her feel comfortable about her surroundings, but all in the world of Jax Montgomery isn't easy. The two of them have a lot of obstacles and not everyone around them is helpful and Harlow is dealing with a lot of internal pain that she's not sure she can get past it to move forward with Jax. LOVED THIS BOOK !!
Billionaire Unexpected~Jax is listed as book 16 in the "The Billionaire's Obsession" series by J.S. Scott. While this book features a different couple from all the other books, I wouldn't call it a complete stand-alone. A big part of the story is about the aftermath of the events that took place in the previous book (Hudson) and I believe that readers will get a better understanding of what is going on, besides the romance, in this novel, if they have read Hudson first.
I had two issues with the story, though none of them was significant. The first had to do with Harlow's journey to move past the tragic events. I don't feel like we dove deep enough into that and I had similar issues with Taylor's book. The second thing, is the teaser for Cooper's book. It felt out of place and I would have preferred to have it as an epilogue instead of the ultimate chapter. To me, it disrupted the flow of the story. On the positive side, I am kinda hooked on his book and I will definitely read it.
What I loved the most about the book was Molly. If a story has a dog in it, then it definitely will get some extra points from me and I swear that dog won me over faster than she did Harlow. The second best thing was the romance, especially from Jax's side. That man knows how to woo a woman. Harlow was a little flat as a character, but she also had some strong characteristics that made her a decent heroine and that's the reason I didn't go with the five stars, not the other two things I mentioned above.
Overall, I liked the book and found it easy to read despite the dark themes that it had.
Billionaire Unexpected--Jax by J.S. Scott is book 16 in The Billionaire's Obsession Series. This is the story of Jax and Harlow. I have read most of the book in this series and it did help me enjoy this one but truly this can be a standalone book. Harlow was taken along with her intern and boyfriend by rebels where they were tortured. Harlow's boyfriend died before he could be rescued. Now, Harlow is trying to come to grips with all that has happened to her. This has left her with PTSD anxiety along with some physical issues. Jax has been attracted to Harlow a few years back but due to his reputation she turned him down cold. But now he is determined to help her which will lead to his second chance at love with her. Ms. Scott can write some very moving stories that keep you so engrossed that time flies away. Loved their story and I do recommend this book.
Jax Montgomery billionaire playboy, we see a totally different side of him. Harlow was being held by rebels on a trip for Montgomery mining. Once she's rescued she has a lot of issues re-adjusting back into society and showing she is struggling so much. Jax is assigned her sponsor, which starts an awesome friendship that turns into so much more.
This story follows Harlow who is dealing with the death of her boyfriend, the abuse of her friend and intern. Jax shockingly showed such tenderness in this book. Love the book!
Jax Montgomery had one purpose. Making sure that Harlow comes out of her ordeal and lives a happy life. Another great story from J.S.Scott. Love a good series, this one is worth reading.
Billionaire Unexpected is the next story in the Billionaire’s Obsession by JS Scott and it’s fantastic❣️ As we know Harlow went to Lania in the previous story with her intern Taylor, when they were kidnapped and held hostage by rebels. Fortunately, she was released after a ransom was paid and when she got back to the US, she alerted them about Taylor being held still😳
This story is about the ramifications of Harlow being held hostage and how Jax helps her deal with everything. It’s also a beautiful story of two people who after everything they’ve both been through can learn to love again and I can’t wait to read Cooper’s story next and whatever else Ms Scott has planned for us this year❤️ I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review😁
What I was thinking was another recovery story, and similar to Hudson’s story wound up being different than I anticipated. I ended up liking Jax and Harlow’s story a lot, so much that I gave it a 5. There was something different about this one that held me and I felt the progress she made was unbelievable! I think it was her journey in how she finds her life back that I enjoyed so much. She struggled more than Taylor did, and she was the one who actually got sexually assaulted. I would think she would have a harder time than Harlow but I was completely wrong. Regardless, anybody who went through what both Harlow and Taylor did is nothing to take lightly or brush aside. It’s the way they recover that blows your mind. The way Harlow makes baby steps that wound up being big ones in the long run for herself was inspiring. She went from being afraid to step outside her apartment, to seeking an adrenaline high in less than 6 months, all thanks to Jax and his advising, but also showing her that she can still make his heart pound and his desire for her at an all time high. She went from being afraid of everything imaginable to skydiving, parasailing and driving a sports car around a track. I think in this case I loved reading about her recovery and liked how Harlow and Jax explored their desire for each other all at once, though it did happen near the end of the story. Even though all this happens near the end, I feel like for her case it needed to be this way because she would have been too vulnerable if any of this happened more quickly. While Harlow and Taylor both had their own recovery stories, Harlow’s was more tender and sensitive. Jax had to approach lightly and so did she. Earlier I said she took baby steps that made a difference because she did it in a way that didn’t overwhelm her and those steps is something I imagine could take over a year. She managed to obliterate that time frame. Through it all, she manages to allow love and desire back into her life and Jax finds a connection that he’s never experienced before when he realizes that she just wants him and not what he can offer. I find this is a huge hurdle with all the Montgomery’s, more so than the other men in the other stories because it made them detached, unable to trust and afraid to jump into a relationship. Meanwhile, the others you see this but they aren’t so bitter like the Montgomery’s. It’s been wonderful reading about how these women have unchipped their hearts and brought warmth and trust back to them. It’s also showcased how wonderful these men are and how nobody ever understands or gets to see this side of them. I have no doubt Cooper’s story will be the same, though you also get a forbidden trope in that one, which I am a fan of.
Billionaire Bachelor With a One-And-Done Reputation Meets Intelligent, Sexy Geoscientist Survivor
Jaxton Montgomery co-owner and CEO of Montgomery Mining has been labeled by the press as a one and done playboy but the press, like the women he has dated, only see the surface billionaire and fail to see the strong and sometimes vulnerable man underneath. When he first encounters Harlow, the brilliant geoscientist in his lab, he is captivated by this beautiful, intelligent woman and asks her to dinner. Unfortunately, the reputation that the media has built paints Jax as exactly the type of man a woman who has been hurt before and is looking for a true partner avoids. Although she secretly finds Jax attractive, her nerves and desire not to be paraded before the public as one of his cast offs cause Harlow to laugh as she turns him down flat.
Two years later, Harlow is dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic capture during a work venture where she and her intern were held and tortured by rebels while their third team member, Mark, Harlow’s boyfriend is killed. Struggling to rejoin the living and recapture some of the woman she was before the trauma left her riddled with anxiety and PTSD, Harlow desires to become a member of Last Hope, the organization that rescued her intern from the hell hole that bent these two courageous women to the limit, but did not break the strong survivors within. Before Marshall, the head of the organization will even consider her request, Harlow needs to overcome her obstacles and get her head on straight. Part of that is working with her advisor, Jax, the man who she turned down two years ago. As Jax helps Harlow overcome her anxiety and take back her life, Harlow begins to see the man beyond the media painted façade and gives Jax the gift of a woman who sees the man, not just a billionaire Montgomery. These strong, independent individuals thrown together by trauma become friends who learn to trust each other and reveal their vulnerabilities allowing them to form a strong bond and fall in love.
The romance is sweet, the couple is sexy, and story is steamy. This is another J.S. Scott must read. As always, Ms. Scott tantalizes the reader to see exactly how the next Montgomery brother will lose his mind and possibly introduces new brothers, the Durands, to fawn over in the future. Whether reading by a fire with a glass of wine or snuggling under a blanket with a warm cup of tea, the couple will warm your heart as the author gives her readers a great after Valentine’s Day gift. Happy reading.
Billionaire Unexpected - Jax starts off at high intensity and doesn’t really come down again. Harlow, our female lead, is being held prisoner by rebels and it has been 9 days. We don’t have to wait long to find out that she has been rescued, but that is really here the story starts. We then join Harlow on her journey to recovery, with Jax Montgomery at her side to help her get through. This book has once again proven to me why I keep J.S. Scott on my ‘automatic read’ list. I’m yet to read one of her books that I haven’t loved!
Jax is a billionaire businessman and Harlow’s employer. But he also is a former member of the special forces and has had his own share of difficulties in the past. Jax takes on the role of advisor to Harlow, spending all of his spare time with her to help get her through the anxiety that has been getting progressively worse since her release. Harlow is a strong woman, but she needs help to get back on track and out of the pit of despair that she has fallen into.
Harlow struggles to accept Jax at first. They have a history – short though it was. Some time ago, Jax had asked Harlow out on a date, but she had laughed in his face and refused. Jax doesn’t let this get in the way of wanting to help her, but Harlow can’t forget. Jax has a reputation as a womaniser and serial dater and because of this, she doesn’t trust him. But she eventually gives him a chance, and from there, their friendship begins to grow. And eventually romance follows.
Jax is a strong, sensitive character, who isn’t scared to show his softer side. I found his character to be very relatable. I loved the way he treated Harlow, too. He coaxed and guided, gently leading her in the direction she needed to go, but he was never heavy handed or overbearing. And once the romance between the two of them started to bloom, I really enjoyed the relationship between the two of them.
Billionaire Unexpected moves through grief, trauma, tragedy, healing, the growth of a friendship into eventual love and a whole lot of other emotions along the way (including some puppy love – Molly sounds cute!). I thoroughly enjoyed this book – enough that I’ve already started reading it again for a second time, which is almost unheard of for me. Billionaire Unexpected is #16 in the Billionaire’s Obsession series, but you can definitely read it as a stand alone (but why would you want to? They’re all this good!).
Thank you to the author J.S. Scott for sharing a copy of this e-book with me.
Billionaire Unexpected had my heart in my throat from the first chapter as it introduces Harlow (the heroine) who is dealing, or not so much dealing with a major life trauma and is sinking deeper and deeper into her anxiety and depression. Jax (the hero) co-CEO of the company she works for and also an advisor for a secret organization that helps rescue victims in hostage situations has known Harlow for a while now and has really noticed drastic changes in her mentally and physically since returning from being held hostage while on a work trip. He requests to be Harlow's advisor, unsure why he is seeking to help her himself, just knowing he needs to.
This begins the friendship / relationship between Jax and Harlow, as Jax works to get Harlow the help she needs and getting her back to experiencing life outside of her apartment. Jax is so incredibly sweet, kind and considerate, totally unexpected by Harlow who has just seen him as the one and done Montgomery that the media portrays him as. She begins to see him in a totally new light and her feelings for him are growing more and more. Jax had already been turned down by Harlow a couple years before because of his playboy ways, so even though he is extremely attracted to Harlow and wants to determine if they can be something more he knows she needs to heal mentally first, so he puts his feelings on the back burner concerned that even though he likes her that she doesn't feel the same since her previous rejection.
The comraderie and chemistry Jax and Harlow exhibit is so off the charts you can only hope that these two end up romantically linked. Seeing how Jax helps Harlow had my ovaries exploding and wanting to find a Jax of my own. Once these two do get together the sex is hot, hot, hot!
Billionaire Unexpected is a MUST read that takes you on a journey of healing and dealing with grief, guilt and trauma from a traumatic situation to finding love with the most unexpected of people. Although this story starts off sad and painful, it ends with the most happy and beautiful HEA. If you love steamy romance with an intelligent smokin hot billionaire, an extremely intelligent and independent woman trying to get her life back on track, two rescue dogs who work with PTSD veterans, close knit families and a wonderful heartwarming story then you definitely don't want to miss this book!!! I look forward to reading about Connor, the last single Montgomery sibling, to hopefully find a love of his own.
Billionaire Unexpected Jax is about the second Montgomery brother Jaxton Montgomery and Harlow Lewis, a research geoscientist for Montgomery Mining. We met Jaxton’s brother Hudson in Billionaire Undercover Hudson. After being kidnapped while on a work assignment in a foreign country and her subsequent rescue, Dr. Harlow Lewis struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder. Harlow is so used to being in control and not needing help, she struggles to reach out and accept help. In order to be able to use her skills to help others that might be in a situation similar to what she went through, she is required to accept help from an unlikely source. Jaxton Montgomery, joint owner of Montgomery Mining, has a reputation as a one-night guy, definitely not a long-term relationship person. Harlow doesn’t really take him seriously. However, she must accept help from the former Special Forces officer in order to get what she wants. Jaxton has been drawn to Dr. Harlow Lewis from the moment he meets her. After she is rescued from being kidnapped while on assignment for his company, he tries to give her space to heal. When he finds out that instead of healing, she is cutting herself off from the world, he jumps into action to help her. As the two spend more time together, Jaxton finds Harlow’s honesty and the fact that she isn’t interested in his money or his name refreshing and Harlow finds that Jaxton is much deeper and more wounded that he appears. This story was quite enjoyable. I found the characters interesting and loved watching their relationship grow as misconceptions were overcome and both characters healed. I loved seeing Harlow come out of the shell that she created to protect herself, and back into the confident independent woman she was and see their relationship grow into a loving supportive relationship. I enjoyed seeing Jax want Harlow with him, but allowing her to make the decisions. I very much enjoyed this story and am excited for Cooper’s story next. The third Montgomery brother and Victoria Durand should be quite the ride.
This is book 2 of the series of three books about Riley's (Enamored (The Accidental Billionaires Book 3)) brothers who we met in the previous series. While it can standalone probably, you really should read the first book featuring Hudson (Billionaire Undercover: The Billionaire's Obsession ~ Hudson) to really get a handle on what previously occurred and the characters, as the story continues into Jax just a different set of main characters and their point of view.
This is Harlow's story. She is a Geologist who was sent by her employer's Montgomery Mining to Limia which was supposed to be safe. But instead she was kidnapped along with her intern Taylor, and her boyfriend. She was ransomed and when they received their money they let her go but kept Taylor, as soon as she was safe she had Jax and Hudson Montgomery, her bosses go in and get Taylor and bring her home. Billionaire Undercover: The Billionaire's Obsession ~ Hudson is Taylor and Hudson's story.
In this story we get inside Harlow's head and its a very sad and depressed head. She blames herself because her boyfriend was killed and she feels to blame with what happened to Taylor. She is doing very badly until Jax gets assigned as her advisor.
Two years before Jax asked her out and she turned him down because she thought he was a player. Now he comes knocking on her door, and he becomes her lifeline, her best friend and her confidante.
It was an awesome story and I loved watching her heal and find her strength and power. Jax was this awesome guy that has always crushed on her and they have this awesome connection. On one hand it dealt with some really serious subjects as Harlow is in a world of pain at the start of the book, but its an awesome story about love, friendship and family and most of all love. Its probably one of my top favorite stories in this bIllionaire series by the author.
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Billionaire Obsession series is pretty amazing, but Jax's story was pleasantly unexpected. We might believe that billionaires have a great life and that the things that might worry us do not apply to them, but appearances could be deceiving. Jax is the poster boy for the perfect billionaire, totally gorgeous, owner of a very profitable company, and a perfect bachelor. But since news usually twist a story to be the must profitable they could get, usually the story is not the truth. Taking into account what was said of Jax in the press and his reputation, Harlow decides not to go out with him when he asks her out at work, but fate will have other plans for them. Two years later Harlow is not coping well with her trauma, after been kidnapped on a foreign country and has alienated herself from family, friends, work and anyone that could help her out. Stubbornly Jax has been trying to get Harlow some help, but she refuses again & again until she decides to makes a deal with him. Thinking she will win and he will finally leave her be, she propositions that he can help her out if for two weeks there are no photos of him with a female in the press, he has to stop dating period. Little did she know that what he desires more is to help her out and he will do anything in his power to accomplish that. he will prove to her that he is not anything like the billionaire playboy that she thought he was and will discover the true Jax. Jax will help her with her PTSD with much care, patience, and love. This wonderful story is about second chances for love, discovering the true meaning of family and friendship that can pleasantly surprise you. Simply not judging a person by what you hear, but by what you personally know of them, because you might be very surprised with the truth and regret the lost time. Jax and Harlow's story is full of love, understanding, empowerment, hope, and passion. It is the perfect addition to this series.
Out of tragedy comes a love they never saw coming.
Harlow returns from a horrifying kidnapping as changed woman. Once a geologist for one of the most advanced companies in the world, she is stuck living in constant fear. She tries to hide what is truly going on and stays in her apartment, but Jax Montgomery, billionaire co-CEO of Montgomery Mining, and one of the men who helped save her, refuses to let her stop living life. A man who understands what she has been through, he is determined to help her as an advisor from the secret charity group that was part of her rescue.
As Harlow heals and Jax learns more about a woman he has noticed for years, a truly friendship forms. Overtime this couple bonds in a way that both learns things they never knew about the other. Eventually, as Harlow heals, the line is crossed, and both want to take their relationship to the next level.
I struggled a bit with this book. I have read books from Ms. Scott’s Accidental Billionaires series, and loved it. Jax’s book has some character flaws that can be difficult to accept. Though I love that Harlow is seen struggling, as one would expect, after such a difficult event, once she accepts Jax’s help her recovery comes too quickly. Though it takes months, only the first one or two “outings” they have cause her any anxiety. This just doesn’t match with her character in the beginning, one who has not left her apartment at all and isn’t functioning at all. I loved the way she and Jax created a deep and honest friendship, it is just that there were times where her character did not seem to maintain a steady growth in the way I would have expected with such an extreme situation as a catalyst.
Overall, this story definitely has the elements one would expect and enjoy when wanting a sexy romance with a HEA.
Billionaire Unexpected – Jax is the sixteenth book in J.S. Scott’s Billionaire’s Obsession series. We were introduced to this storyline in the previous book in the series, Billionaire Undercover – Hudson.
Jax Montgomery is part owner of Montgomery Mining. When several of his employees are tragically kidnapped, Jax and his brothers find a way to successfully rescue them. One of the employees kidnapped is Harlow. A few years earlier, he tried to date her but she outright rejected him.
As Harlow recovers from her horrific experience, Jax decides to step in with her recovery. He recognizes that she is not making way and is wallowing in the tragedy. She is also suffering from PTSD. He becomes her knight-in-shining armor who convinces her to take hold of her life. Attend therapy, rebuild her life and reclaim the joy and passion she had being a geo scientist.
While I enjoyed this book, I wish Ms. Scott would have explained in detail what the acronym EMDR stands for. She references it three times but never once tells the reader what it means. After researching the term on my own, I discovered that EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a psychotherapy treatment. The issue is not resolved almost overnight as the book leads us to believe. As a reader, I would have liked to have seen at least one of Harlow’s therapy sessions. Felt the pain that she went through to get to the other side. She was deeply troubled by her ordeal and I don’t see her overcoming it in such a short order of time. This was a major part to the storyline that I feel was glossed over.
I enjoy a good romance but this story lacked the detail that was needed to address the magnitude of the kidnapping and its after-affects.
I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.
Billionaire Unexpected is a favorite of mine for sure. Harlow a geologist that works for Montgomery Mining, was held captive with her intern and Mark who is a friend that Harlow wanted to get to know. The Montgomery brothers have an organization called Last Hope that were able to go in and get her intern who was still being held captive. Feeling guilty that she was home and later finds out Mark was killed she is a mess. She has PTSD, guilt, fear, anger and many other issues from being held captive. Fast forward she is wanting to become a member of Lost Hope and help others the way they did her. However Marshall Montgomery tells Harlow she has to work on her issues before she can help others. He wants Jax Montgomery to be her advisor and to help her get through this and is requiring her to work with him. She is all aware of Jax and his reputation and wants nothing to do with the one night stand, billionaire, love em and leave them Playboy. The issue is Harlow wants to work for Last Hope so she agrees to let Jax help her. As they begin to go through all her issues, fears and "the obstacles" still in her way, she uncovers a Jax that she did not know existed. She only knew of the Jax that the papers featured all the time in a bad light and the man she rejected 2 years ago based on that reputation. As the times go on the chemistry is there. She needs to decide on how to proceed and if she can be a part of this man's world or is it not meant to be. J.S. Scott's story is one of my favorite reads. I also love reading who may be coming next in her next book. They all are intertwined and that is something I really enjoy with her books. I loved this book and would suggest to others.
I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.
In this book we get Harlow Lewis and Jaxton Montgomery's story. In this book we see what happened while both Harlow and Taylor were in captivity. We also see how Harlow is handling life after being home. We find that not only is she suffering with large bouts of survivor's guilt she also has had person problems with getting around. Harlow believes she has a solution though, let her come to work for Last Hope. The problem with that is Marshall doesn't believe that she is either physically or mentally ready to take on this big of a task. He knows she needs something but pushing her to far to fast will only make it worse for her. Jax once asked Harlow out but that is not the only reason he is looking to be her mentor. When she got back he knew she was in a bad way but didn't realize how long she had still been holding things in. So they make a deal if he can go without being in the press for a length of time determined by her she will let him be her mentor. The more time they spend together the more Harlow learns about Jax, and is beginning to realize their is more to the man then what he shows the world. Can these two find a HEA or will they be great friends who helped each other out?
This is another amazing story by this author. I like how this author isn't afraid to write about the hard hitting things in this life. In this book we have a woman who was kidnaped in another country. Isn't sure what happened to the 2 people she went there with and she was the only one returned. Their are so many emotions you will find in a J.S book and this one is no different. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Jax and Harlow's book is the 16th in The Billionaire's Obsession Series. It could be read as a standalone book, but I do recommend starting with the 15th book and get the story of all three Montgomery brothers (the 17th will be the last brother). Their sister is an earlier tie in story also, but not as related to this book.
Jax and his two brothers run an international mining company. On the side the three ex-special ops men also help with "non official" military rescues. Harlow is a brilliant geologist who works for Montgomery Mining. Harlow, her intern and her boyfriend all go on a work survey in a foreign country where they are abducted and abused. Harlow is rescued early in the story by ransom. It turns out her boyfriend has been dead days by her rescue 9 days after her abduction. The special ops team rescues her intern barely alive later. Harlow has PTSD, isn't sleeping with nightmares, doesn't want to leave her apartment and tried to resign from Montgomery Mining. The brothers are having non of her resignation and Jax becomes her assigned advisor to help with her mental and physical recovery.
Jax has always been attracted to Harlow, but she turned down his offer of a date two years before because of his playboy reputation with the press. While still attracted, now she needs a friend and someone who can help and listen far more than a push for romance. Jax shows his true colors with a big heart, loyalty and constant encouragement. As Harlow learns more about him, she begins to come out of her shell and find she judged him wrong before. Can these two find peace with each other from very different but difficult pasts?
If you have read "Billionaire Undercover", then you will know that Harlow was kidnapped alongside Taylor and that Jax is Hudson's brother and involved in the rescue of Taylor.
At the point we join this book, Harlow is totally overwhelmed with guilt from the experience and unable to live her live. She has isolated herself from everyone and everything, continuing to sink into a deep depression with no end in sight. As a member of 'Last Hope', the organisation who rescued Taylor, and Harlow's employer Jax is determined to help her by becoming her advisor. She refuses to let him in but he is persistent and keeps trying to knock down the walls.
This is a long journey for Harlow to recovery and reclaiming her life. However, Jax doesn't let her give up, coaching her and encouraging the small steps that she takes back to reclaiming her life, alongside Jax's therapy dog Molly who he loans to her. He is patient, understanding, caring, kind-hearted and generous but also pushes her just enough to do things. When he is with her, it is humbling to witness and it makes my heart sing with his genuineness.
This was everything I love about JS Scott's writing. It was heartfelt, beautiful, heart-warming, heart-breaking and breath-taking. The issues that it explores are done in a sensitive way with just the right amount of heat so that it doesn't overpower their story. Every time I think that JS Scott has knocked it out of the park and can't get any better, she manages to write even more brilliantly. Another amazing read.
Billionaire Unexpected – Jax is the next book in the long-awaited Billionaire’s Obsession series. We got a glimpse of Jax in the prior book, and I couldn’t wait to read more about his story. Harlow has been an employee of Montgomery Mining in the role of a geologist for some time. A few years ago, she was approached by Jax, but turned down his request to take her to dinner. Fast forward two years and Harlow is the victim of a tragic kidnapping, but saved by her employer who paid her ransom. There were things she saw that she’ll never un-see. There are emotions that overwhelm her every day, a guilt that she can’t let go of.
Jax, who is not only one of the co-owners of Montgomery Mining, but part of a rescue organization called Last Hope, wants to support Harlow in any way he can. His offer to become her advisor was shot down initially, but after some convincing, he gets her to agree to a trial period. What starts as an agreement slowly turns to a friendship, with Harlow uncovering pieces of Jax she thought didn’t exist. The chemistry is undeniable. But is Harlow willing to also open her heart to this man who has had a reputation of being a playboy who is never seen with a woman more than once? As with every novel by J.S. Scott, I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next in the series. That should speak to the talent of the author, as well as the quality of the storyline she is able to produce. Kudos to another outstanding read!!
There are two sides to every storyline. We were introduced to Harlow in Billionaire Undercover - Hudson which touched on Harlow’s friend Taylor and how she dealt with the trauma of being kidnapped and held for ransom in a foreign country, which is the first storyline. The second one is Billionaire Unexpected - Jax which is Harlow’s story of the hostage situation and how Billionaire Jax Montgomery helped guide her, helped her heal, and stole her heart in the process.
Harlow was traumatized by the experience as anyone would be. She was more traumatized over what happened to her friends, Taylor and Mark than she was for herself. She wanted to handle it on her own but was told that she was not improving as she didn’t want to even leave her home. Enter Jax, the Playboy Billionaire that was going to help her heal and recover.
I have to say that Billionaire Unexpected unexpectedly fell short of my expectations. I loved Jax and his dogs and the caring man he was, but Harlow felt very flat to me. I thought she was a very uninteresting character after all she had been through; she was able to quickly “recover” from the trauma that so debilitated her in what seemed a matter of days that it was so unbelievable to me.
Unfortunately, this was a middle-of-the-road read for me and I give it a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. I do recommend reading Talor’s story in Billionaire Undercover - Hudson. I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review that is my own.
Great read. Dr. Harlow Jones has been though a lot. She was held and tortured in a small foreign country with her best friend. They were kidnapped and she was ransomed out in Lania. Harlow had to reached out to the owners of the company she worked for someone to rescue her friend and intern. NOw, Harlow needs someone in her corner to help her deal with the trauma that she has gone through and help her come out the other side. Jaxon Montgomery sees this and wants to be the one to help her. He is one of 3 brothers that own Montgomery mining where Harlow works. She went to Lania for them to check out some mines they were interested in. Jax wants to help her get better. He and his brothers are a part of a secret group that went in to rescue her intern Taylor. Jax has been drawn to Harlow since he met her 2 years ago when he asked her to dinner but she turned him down. Jax has a playboy rep and has been photographed often with women. Harlow doesn't want to be one of those women. She doesn't want to be hounded by the press. So she turned him down. Jax sees Harlow as a smart woman that he would like to get to know better, now he knows she needs his help to overcome her anxiety to get on with living. He even lends her his favorite dog to help her deal with her anxiety, PTSD and nightmares. He is also slowly falling in love with Harlow but he needs to convince her that he really isn't a playboy and wants to be the man she needs in her life.
Even though this book is in a series you would have no trouble enjoying the story by itself. There is character overlap and a bit of backstory you'd gain from reading Hudson's book first, but it's not required.
Once again J. S. Scott has delivered a story that will engage readers and have us believing in soulmates. Jax and Harlow take their time, they develop a close friendship before ever crossing any lines. It's obvious they are in love and the things they do for one another prove that in so many ways. Coming from different backgrounds and financial standings it's nice to see Harlow being able to spoil Jax a little in her own way.
I loved how compassionate and patient Jax was. He didn't want to put any pressure and held out so much longer than I thought he would. Seeing Harlow's journey and the obstacles she had to overcome was nice, it felt like an honest progression without bypassing any of the healing that needed to happen. I love how she's found a way to contribute to the cause and help others who might end up in a similar situation.
I also can't wait for Cooper's story next. I wonder how long he'll be able to resist a certain off-limits little sister, especially since she just may prove to be smarter than him.
I received an advanced copy of this story and am voluntarily providing an honest review.
