Previously Song Hui Ming had been afraid of Su Jin even in her dreams, fearful that he would use his power to oppress and force her to have a relationship with him.
It was not until Su Gonggong died that she realized it was just a misunderstanding.
Born again, feeling ashamed, she decided to repay her debt of gratitude, but——
What? Su Gonggong, aren’t you a gentleman? I take you as a benefactor, and you really like me?
Su Gonggong: I, I, I’m not! I don’t! Don’t talk nonsense!
Among the light novels, this is one of the best historical novels for sure. Especially taking into account that it tells the romantic story between a palace maid and a legit eunuch.
Hui Ming goes back in time after she is killed in power struggle. And she encounters Eunuch Su, her only benefactor again. She feels great regret slighting him before. So she decides to treat him well and save his life as repayment.
The story is set in a very realistic manner where the lives of servants are hung on the edge of a sword. They have to follow rules arduously without any sense of security. Any master of the palace, your immediate superior or your colleagues can land you to the land of eternal damnation anytime. So both our leads have to be extremely cautious all the time.
The romance can be called slow. But it was equally sweet and well-suited to their character settings. The FL and ML both had inferiority complex. Hui Ming finally preserves through and breaks down Su Jin in the end.
The ending seemed a bit rushed but it was also equally satisfying. The extras, especially. I loved that the Seventh Prince finally had some peace. To be honest, he just seemed autistic, born in an unfortunate time.
A round of applause for the author to provide some additional sweetness with the third timeline at the end, though👏🏻👏🏻
