When it comes to motley crews, the Blackout has most starships beat. But as a ruthless force swarms over the quadrant, crushing and enslaving all civilizations in its path, it falls to this unlikely band of non-heroes to turn the tide. If they don't kill each other first. Escape , the second book in the Blackout series, is old-fashioned space opera at its best, perfect for fans of action-packed drama and fun! The Blackout series is an homage to thrilling pulp sci-fi of yesteryear. If you're interested in hard science fiction look elsewhere. But if you're looking for action-packed adventures on strange worlds with even stranger aliens, this series is for you!
This episode started with our friends in the stolen ship Blackout in the midst of a space battle, low on fuel and trying to return to Keter for refueling and ammunition. The area nearest the fuel dump was blockaded by ships from the alien Krakzid invaders and those of the Keter Legion (Krakzid sympathizers), so they needed to find a safe landing area farther away, at the limit of their fuel, which resulted in another crash landing. The crew were OK, searched for and found, members of the New Cooperative, one of several native Keter resistance groups competing for control of their planet. Jackson quickly realized that Tolin, the resistance leader, wanted to kill the crew and steal the Blackout for his fleet, so the only ones he could trust were his crew members...maybe! The action started quickly and remained non-stop, which riveted my attention, so I had to read straight through to the end, enjoying every twist, turn and battle. I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion – and I purchased a copy to support this outstanding author. I have enjoyed many of Mr. Young’s books and look forward to many more.
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. The plucky crew of the Blackout find themselves in dire situation: with no functioning weapons and running low on fuel; with no other choice they head for the Asibi foothills. Among the craggy mountains, they find the New Cooperative- an eccentric group of individuals bound by beliefs that will fight for whoever needs them. Lead by a man called Tollin, Captain Keogh isn't happy about their reliance upon such an odd group but without the Cooperative and their weapons and mechanics; the Blackout will remain grounded and their fight against the Legion and the Krakzid hopeless. The crew's harsh test stand before them with escape upon the horizon. Brilliantly fashioned and deliberately paced with gray moral questions facing those involved... doesn't get better than this adventure. Highly recommended.
This book picks up with the action that book one "Ignite" left off on. The crew is fighting with the bad guys, but are also fighting with themselves. The action of this author never stops amazing me. You can't read just one of his series. With Daniel Young, you are in it for them all. Right back into the fun and shenanigans you would expect from a full length motion picture. I can't wait for book 3 which should be in a couple weeks.
The plucky crew captained by Jackson are back and trying to survive each other and the bad guys. It was fun , entertaining and sometimes silly. Lots of action and silliness. The story starts with a bang and gets better from there. Enjoyed the story and cannot wait or more. Loved to see what they had to face and survive this time.
What another outstanding book, following on the heels of the first. The crew of the Blackout is really having a hard time. How will they get to safety. Hooked from the start. Can’t wait for the next book.
