Jonathon Hunter has at last come home. Or so he thinks. The Door is only open for five days, and it should be long enough for what he needs. What he doesn’t need is his whole concept of home to be challenged. Not when there is so much else to do. The answers he's long wanted are now within his grasp. But does he really want to know the truth? Can he handle the truth? And what else is there he doesn’t know about? The Darkness is coming, and Gaia has its role to play. But Prophecy doesn't care who believes in it. It unfolds as foretold. Shock follows shock, and as the stakes get higher, Jon's grip on reality comes down to one simple question. A question everyone else knows the answer to. Home is where the Hero is.

Timothy Ellis lives on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia; where he constantly battles with his cat for possession of his desk chair, Daleks do guard duty, and he keeps his sonic screwdriver next to his lightsaber and wand. Now there is a female Doctor Who, he eagerly awaits the sound of the Tardis materializing in his house.
He has spent his life reading and watching science fiction and fantasy, and has been playing Space Genre computer games since he used to be smuggled in to play the original text Star Trek game on a university mainframe, long before the PC or Apple appeared. Since 2004, he's written game guides for the Egosoft X Universe series, culminating in two versions of the X3 Handbook. He has also designed major mods for the various games, and dozens of mini mods.
He has been a farm worker, Antique Dealer, Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, Operations Manager of a small retail chain, and Retail Store Owner. He is now a full time author, who still does Spiritual Healer and helper work.
After leaving behind the corporate and business worlds, he was opened to his Spiritual gifts. Now a Feng Shui Master, Feng Shui led him to Buddhism, Karma, the Tao, and back to western spiritualism. Since 2006 he has been writing spiritual articles and helping people via spiritual forums and Facebook Groups. His spiritual books include "Personal Healing Using Basic Meditation", "Life Harmony, Feng Shui in Plain English", '101 Tips for the John of God Brazil Experience', and "The Wisdom of the Ages is available for the price of asking a question" series of 8 books. His own spiritual healing led him to writing novels.
His first novel, 'Hero at Large', spawning the long running 'The Hunter Imperium' universe, brings together his love of the space genre, magic, spirituality, and cats. Now 10 series long, the universe covers 3 galaxies, 4100 years, and as at Dragon Imperative, 62 Novels, 7 shorts, and 2 companion books. There are 7 main entrance points across 10 series: Hero at Large, Admiral of Gaia, Yesterday's Spacemage, Crossover, Midshipman Spacemage, Old Magic, and Dragon Rider. Alternate entrance points if you don't need backstory first, are Adrift and Mage King, although Dragon Rider has 3 books before it about the dragons.

The fastest way to find out about a new release is my Facebook group/page, which get advance warning about 2-4 days before release, and again when the book is uploaded to Kindle; and my email list which goes out as soon as I have an Amazon page for the new book. Bookbub will let you know about 3-4 days after I remember to tell them.
I normally will release in advance of the specified release date whenever possible, so if you are a Kindle Unlimited reader, you will want another method to be notified of the actual release date, so you can read on day 1.
In this book we finally meet the prophecy and I must admit I didn’t see this coming. I’m not sure if this is a ‘cop out’ or quite clever. From then on it went downhill. I dislike books with a no win story, I really hate books were we are told well before the end that it’s a no win story. Whether it is true or not it just puts a damper on the whole story. My initial reaction to the darkness revelations was pretty much the same as Jon’s, why bother! I continued reading, new ships were built, omnipotent beings appeared and disappeared but the fun had gone. I think the only reason I finished the book was because of the hours I had already spent on this series.
I stopped at the 25% mark because the novel presumed a backstory knowledge that I didn't have. The introduction of gods was a bit much too. I don't do well with gods but other people might.
The books that I've read previously with gods and science fiction get way too complicated with messy plots and sometimes truncated characters. Again not my cup of tea. It's hard for me to judge the writing because I walked into the story somewhere in the middle, it includes deities, and there is a prophesy and a family that I don't get.
It might be OK and it may be entertaining but it probably is better understood if read from the beginning.
Reminds me a lot of the A Soldier's Duty series now that the Prophecy has a more details and how he believes it will end, which makes it hard to read the final two books as we have that foreshadowing.
I was worried that the last book ruined this series for me. I was right. The lack of culpability, the lack of agency, the inevitability makes all this pointless. The way Jon feels towards the end is how I feel about the series. Only difference is that I get to walks away.
More of the same and you’re okay with that if you’ve made it this far. Small note, a big South Park S18 E7 8:44 fun university to the author for the reveal in this book haha
Well, I didn’t expect this…and given the beginnings were written in 2014/15…and the state of the world today…and that I know a Johnathon Hunter from Down Under…kinda taking a look around…can’t wait for the next one!
Difficult to bring a plot into space opera plans, meetings, misses, and inspirations. This is a good example for the mix of complex, subtle, simple, and bad choices each brings.
Good book but a little self-indulgent meta. I liked that Hunter showed his feelings and doubts in a realistic way, but I think I’ll take a brake before I read the next book.
Another fabulous read! Exciting action, continually developing plot, entertaining characters(especially Jane, the AI), an all around great series that I recommend to anyone that loves science fiction.
Start of new story line while dealing with the results of the previous story.
At first I was a bit disappointed with the start of the book but I realised this book is a setup for the next big story line. Thinking about it now I also like that the hero can also experience depression and a recommended way of battling depression ( exercise! Walk, run, play a sport, get out of the house and your head. )
You have to read the whole series, but it's worth it. Very well done. I like the author's balance of spiritualism vs cold practicality. Darkness is coming and for Johnathon Hunter, it's been both a long time and a shot and wild ride getting to where he is now.
I still enjoy these novels and love how John rises to the occasion ,rises to the challenge. Life is never easy for our hero but at least he has his parents with him now.
Duke Jon Hunter finally meets the Keeper and finds that important parts of the Prophecy are missing. He becomes angry and depressed in not having the nature of the threat revealed. However, he proceeds with preparations to meet the Darkness. Assassins still stalk him and his loved ones. I look forward to the next book.
