Life is so confusing! There is a multitude of voices calling out to be heard. Which one is the «right one»?
We sometimes make decisions that instead of being biblical, good, or even moral, seem to be taken blindly, hoping they result in a positive outcome.
This third book of the First Steps series considers the wisdom offered in the book of Proverbs. God has not left us alone navigating life and doing the best we can. His guidance is there if we would only take time to look.
This "First Steps Series" by 9Marks has been excellent thus far. And this book, the third in the series, takes Biblical truth to the next level.
There are quite a few things about this work that impressed me. Allow me to give a few here:
1) The book is written for a fictional character "Gary" who is a newer Christian struggling to get over his past life. It doesn't whitewash the struggles, temptations, and past life that he has. In my opinion, it paints an accurate picture of many people who first get saved from a life of sin. 2) The author takes the reader on a journey of nine truths and they are from the first nine chapters of Proverbs. It is almost like an expository sermon series for a new Christian! Because of that, it is solidly based on Scripture, not opinion! 3) Andy Prime does not shrink back from hard topics but addresses them head on. In other words, he identifies many sins that not only Proverbs identifies, but quite frankly, what many people struggle with today (gambling, money issues, sexual temptation, etc).
This book encouraged me greatly & helped me personally and I have been a Christian since a young lad. I know this book would help a new Christian and I aim to give away many a copy in the days and months to come!
This is an excellent book. Who are you listening to? There are so many voices clamouring for our attention, not least our own inner-dialogue which often is seeking to lead us astray. Andy Prime takes the reader through the first nine chapters of Proverbs to explain where these different voices originate from. Fundamentally, there are two voices calling for our attention, the voice of wisdom and the voice of folly. The former leads to life, the latter leads to death. To hear the voice of wisdom we need to be in a right relationship with God, we need to fear (or respect) Him. This is the wise way to live which Jesus Christ has enabled.
