My heart is so full right now.

Full of
Love
Longing
Want
Need

A maelstrom of music pulsates through my veins

Lyrics brimming with pain and passion dance in my cells

And my soul revels in the pure, unmatched beauty I can find only in Julie’s writing
“I wake. I breathe. I sleep. A ghost of a girl. Not so much a life – merely an existence.”

Two years ago, Felicity Wilde lost her home. For two years, she lived hidden. Without music. Without color. Without hope. Until that unexpected turn of events that dragged her against her will back in the spotlight, and forced her to face the one person that gave her the world, only to rip it from her hands.
“I’m living a nightmare I’ll never escape.”

Two years ago, Ryder Woods lost his way. His path was paved with drugs, alcohol, fame and all kinds of addiction that led to a life without her. But fate smiled back at him when the starry-eyed girl that stole his breath and his heart re-emerged from the shadows. When Wildewood hits the road for a sold-out tour, Ryder finds the opportunity to fight for her. To prove her how much she means to him. That he can be the person she deserves.
If only she’d let him.
“Keep singing, Felicity. You’re a light in the dark.”

Julie Johnson is the light in my dark. Every single time I lose myself in one of her soulful, powerful stories, I end up finding pieces of me I didn’t know were missing. Her prose is always compelling, I taste her rich metaphors in my tongue and feel her lyrics caress my skin. The tension she masterfully crafts and the ambience charged with lust and longing baptize me in fire, and the tears staining my face soak my parched soul. Her talent lies in capturing every single moment, the big and the small, the joyful and the sad, in weaving constellations of star-crossed lovers that beam even in the blackest night. She awakens sensations and dreams. She conjures nightmares and pain so primal that makes you scream. She writes about every feeling you could possibly feel, and you experience its enhanced version that swallows you whole.
“So here’s the truth I never said
A promise I can’t forget
For you I’d move the stars”

In the past, Ryder and Felicity let their demons overpower them, and that tore them apart. Now, they have a second chance. Their connection is still there, unfaded. And so is their anger, their bitterness, their disappointment and their fear. Unfaded is full of angst and tangled emotions that make Ryder and Felicity hurt each again and again. Sometimes I rooted for Felicity, and admired her for her resilience and the way she grew up, but some others I was mad at her for not seeing how much Ryder tried, for running away when she had every reason to stay. Ryder on the other hand attracted me like a moth to the flame, he easily became of my most cherished male characters (and also made me drool incessantly). When they sang, everything ceased to be. It was only them, their palpable chemistry and me, a tiny figure swept in their tornado. The secondary characters were precious, their presence soothing, a comfort much needed. And I have a feeling that we are not done with them yet.
“You’re the eye of my storm, a shot burst of sun
If I thought you’d listen, I’d tell you to run”

Julie Johnson’s Faded Duet is a heartbreakingly beautiful song I will never forget.

2.5 - 3 Stars

Overall Opinion: What a disappointment. I really liked the first book in this duet and even rated it 4.5 stars! I was uber anxious to jump into this one, but I was sadly really disappointed. I felt like it was stupid miscommunication and stubbornness that kept the drama and angst going in this one. I actually ended up becoming frustrated with the characters, where in the first book I really enjoyed them both. I know this might sound harsh -- but I honestly felt like it was stretched out for the sake of having two books, or that not as much development or effort was put into this as the first book. The overall idea of their reunion and situation was good! I think the execution wasn't. And the ending?! Totally ticked me off! No epilogue! No concrete commitments! I'd rather have those things then the lyrics to their songs that we'd read already. I don't hide that I'm a epi-ho and I need my closure, so this was the final nail in the coffin for me. I honestly struggled with what to rate this, because I liked the first book so much...but ended up with a range of 2.5 - 3 Stars.

**PLEASE NOTE: This review might contain spoilers for book one as well as spoiler tags for this book**

4.5 “Move the Stars” Stars

Unfaded was Angsty with a capital A. A second chance love story that began 2 years after Faded ended. I was quite surprised that there was a two years time frame between books but with the gravity of the cliffhanger in book one, the two years was believable.

Ryder and Felicity shared an amazing connection in book one. I could feel it through the pages. And through music, their love grew and flourished. But sometimes, things happen and they are unforgivable. So when Ryder and Felicity reconnect in Unfaded, the secrets, the lies, the anger, the guilt, the confusion and the intense love all comes rushing back. But the love isn’t enough to overshadow the past so the angst of being together is high and tumultuous and plays havoc on the Wildwood reunion. Throughout the angst, the story is told in dual POVs, so we the readers, are able to feel every emotion from both Ryder and Felicity. Rooting for second chance love to embrace these two is an emotional battle of trusts, wills and what ifs. I loved their hard and beautifully emotional journey.

As much as this was about Ryder and Felicity, the secondary characters pushed and pulled the story along too. They became important figures to the story and for the second chance love for Ryder and Felicity. I loved Lincoln, Aiden, Carly and Francesca. They added lots of fun and flavor to the story.

So I loved the writing, the music, the angst, I loved watching Ryder and Felicity battle their emotions, I loved the secondary characters BUT and this is a BIG BUT......there was NO Epilogue. I needed alittle more closure. I wanted to bask in Ryder and Felicity’s second chance at love. They spent a lot of time in angst and for me, not a lot of time back in full blown togetherness. I was so invested in these two that I wanted the author to give me a few years out on their love and life.
#SorryNotSorry for being #EpilogueJunkie

But in all, I would highly recommend this duet. It was recommended to my by fab friend, TeriLyn Review and I loved it. Julie Johnson is a new author to me and I can’t wait to read more by her.

♬ It's a story about a sexy musician with dreams of stardom and an introverted songwriter with no desire to see her name in lights. Hiiiiii, opposites. I see you there, attracting.

♬ It's a DUET. (!!!) Yes, that means, there's a cliffhanger. Before you yell at me -- please know, the second installment comes out just a few short weeks later, so you hardly have to wait AT ALL for answers. And in the meantime, I'll hold your hand and walk you through it. I promise.

♬ It's told in DUAL POV. If you read my books, you know I basically never do this. But Ryder... Oh, Ryder. *sighs* I couldn't resist.

♬ It's angsty. Like... ANGSTY AF, guys. I'm warning you now. There will probably be tears. I'm sorry in advance. (Sort of.)

♬ It's set in Nashville and Los Angeles.

"Don’t say I didn’t warn you: this story isn’t about getting what I wanted. Because I never wanted Ryder Woods. I needed him.
Like a melody needs a harmony, like a rhythm needs a tempo, like a chord needs a key. I was more consumed by him than I ever was by the notes swirling in my bloodstream or the lyrics swimming through my head.
Even after he took every aching piece of my heart and crushed them to dust between nicotine-stained fingertips." 🎶

4 ★'s

I absolutely loved the first book in this duet so I could not wait to read this book and gobbled it down in one day. Unfortunately for me, it didn't have quite the same zing as the first one.

The first book left us hanging and this book picks up two years later. We get a little glimpse into what was going on in Ryder's life and it's not pretty. In fact, they're both pretty miserable.

And this book has a whole lotta misery - aka angst - but let me tell you, I could've done with less. There I said it...there was just too much angst!

The whole draw for the first book was all the sweet romance. I just LOVED that. Ryder and Felicity were so good together - however short and sweet their time together was. I just felt this one tried too hard to be angsty.

description

Events have evolved in Felicity's life and she's forced to go on tour with Wildwood...and that forces her back into Ryder's life. They don't really talk and they certainly don't deal with things, they just perform and it's exactly what you would expect that to be.

Once they start opening up, that all changes. I could've done with some sweetness here but instead we have to deal with Felicity's crazy mother and father.

There's little hints of another event that Ryder knew nothing about and he was right in his feelings. However, you have to give Felicity props for not backing down.

Thank Goodness...the story does end sweetly. The last concert was awesome...especially the end! ;) And I loved Felicity's suggestion on where they should live and what they should do.

BTW...We find out that Ryder is in another of Julie Johnson's series, The Girl Duet. It's actually Grayson's story but we get more of Ryder during those sad two years. Guess I'll be checking that out...now that was quite tricksy! ;)

5 "You think this is over." Stars

I thought I had a hunch of where this story was going when Part One the duet ended. All I can say now is expect the unexpected. Julie Johnson took this story somewhere far deeper than I ever saw coming in such a plausible, engaging, and emotional way. I read Unfaded from beginning to end in one sitting immersed in the lives of Wildewood and in the love story of Ryder and Felicity. The high of the connection Johnson was able to create between characters and reader is spectacular, true proof of her penchant for telling excellent romance stories.

Julie Johnson took a second chance rock star romance to the next level. Told from the alternating, tortured points of view of both main characters we're able to escape into the chaotic world of music through love and heartache. This book comes as an excellent representation of how effective music can be on our emotions. Johnson plays into the wide range of feelings music represents to these characters and how that translates to their story affecting her readers. There's tension and passion abound throughout this story and it never it fully lets you out of it clutches. It's as painful as it is uplifting as we navigate the stormy waters of this relationship we've become so attached to in the first part of the story.

All the secondary characters in this story play vital roles as well and I'm really hoping we see more of Wildewood in the future. Unfaded is full of angst. It's full of triumphs and lows alike each event securing your heart to the story that much more whether it be through an emotional connection you relate to or the excellent job of tethering your romanticism to these characters Julie Johnson provides. I'm in love with this duet and will be reading it again. It's the perfect way to introduce yourself to the outstanding story telling of Julie Johnson or as a previous fan to remind yourself of her gifted pen. As a long time fan of this author I can say that this is a new favorite for me from her. It's make me elated to see that she keeps getting better and I can't wait for what's next.

My 5 star review for Part One:
Faded

I love love (big) LOVE this series. With this final installment, I'm so sad to see Felicity and Ryder's story end. These are some of my favorite books I've read by Johnson by far.

"What do you feel, Felicity? When you're with me, when we're together on stage and the world boils down to just you and me and the music... what do you feel?"
Everything.
Past, present, future.
Empty, full, complete.
Pain, anger, love.
I look at him and I feel everything.

This book picks up where we left off in Faded, with Felicity scorned by Ryder's dishonesty and having lived without each other for 2 years. Which, doesn't seem like a lot, but when you have two characters who live and breathe for one another, it's a lifetime.

Both jilted and disconnected from the world, Wildwood, their band, also took a permanent hiatus. With everyone separated, the last thing they expect is for a letter from Francesca, their previous label agent, to remind them that they're contractually obligated to tour.

The book is a story about their journey back, first to the band, and then to each other. It's not an easy ride, but it's worth it.

"You're part of me, Felicity. You're imprinted on my DNA. You're embedded in my fucking bone marrow. That doesn't go away. Not after two years. Not ever."

Felicity and Ryder's love isn't ordinary by any means - it's consuming, selfish and once-in-a-lifetime. And the emotions transmitted during the story reflect that.

I highly recommend this series for fans of tortured musical artists, real love and honest, lovable characters.

'Til next time cuties ;)

Oh my goodness!! YOU GUYS! This book. Unfaded is EVERYTHING.

I swear to you have spent half of this story pissed of at Felicity. Like, I wanted to strangle or slap a fictional character because she is just so freaking stubborn. I wanted to stop my foot and tell her no. You just need to stop! ARGH! Then Ryder, sweet sweet Ryder! I loved him so fiercely and passionately, but he as well had me needing to lay down the law and be lie look. Stubborn my man, pull yourself out of our butt and DO SOMETHING.

Look. I know that people go on and on about all the feels, but Unfaded literally pulled every single one of my emotions to the surface and ripped me wide open. Raw. Unbridled passion. Unfaded will NEVER fade from my brain.

Ryder, Felicity, Carly, Lincoln and Aiden. Wildwood. Lord have mercy on me. I will never get enough of these people!! My heart is so full love and adoration and I am thirsting for more!

The wait for the conclusion of Faded was so worth it! This story is one of epic proportions. You need to experience Wildwood in all of their glory in Faded and Unfaded!

Unfaded hits all the right notes. Part two of the faded series by Julie Johnson shows the struggles of Felicity and Ryder trying to find their way to each other. The best part of a Julie Johnson novel is that her characters are always flawed and human. These are two people that make mistakes and still strive to be better. They are each other’s light in the darkness. It was great to see glimpses of characters from Julie’s The Girl duet (If you haven’t read these two books one click them immediately)!! This is a great conclusion to a hard fought road to happiness.

On the whole, I really loved this duet and especially those that make up the Wildewood group. Readers will run the spectrum of emotions -- and all those feels we all demand -- they are here for the taking. The lyrics were amazing -- probably my very favorite part of the duet. I was a bit disappointed in the ending that seemed a bit rushed and left a few unanswered questions -- and no Epilogue to console me. Still, this duet is written so well and is worth the one-click.

I don't know if there will be a spinoff of stories for the remaining characters who certainly demand to tell their stories. Like I said, too many unanswered questions -- this reader needs more!

Wooow. I was dying to dive into this book, right after I finished the first one and what a journey it was!!! I usually take five days to a week - my own sweet time to read a book, but I literally devoured this in three days!! It was 'un-put-downable' ( I know I've gone off the rails, making up words but that's the best way to describe just how mesmerizing this book was). It was irresistible, not because there was too much drama and thriller moments but because it was so REAL and soo BEAUTIFUL. ahhh. I can't really stop reeling over just how emotional and gut-wrenching it was. I totally understand why Julie considers Felicity and Ryder her all-time fave couple. It's very hard for a writer to choose favs amongst her books, but Felicity and Ryder as a couple make the whole choice much easier!!
I really won't get into the critical aspects of the story. This whole book is all about the 'FEELS' and the writing which is so mature and phenomenal!! Julie has done a super amazing job with her writing in this book. Every word resonates with the chord of our hearts, urging us to read more and more and to not ever stop. I also loved the whole new potential love story that's brimming along the edges between..(hmm, I won't spoil it) but it was worth a mention. More focus was on Carley, Lincoln and Aiden, which I totally liked. I also loved Grayson from the Girl duet making a cameo appearance as Ryder's friend into this. I do this whole characters bonding from different books in my books too:p Even Katherine was mentioned. I was super excited when I spotted her name ;)
Overall this story is more about 'how' than 'what' with all of us wishing and hoping for the same ending and Julie delivers it so effectively and dramatically!! Hats off to her. and another news to rejoice- she has pinned two more songs and together they make a mighty fine album! Her lyrics are so tragic and beautiful! Can't get enough of them. I still have one small complaint. Though the whole Felicity's dad issues were sorted, I wish we were shown more about what happened in thsoe two years ( again as flashbacks, especially the Ryder parts). Though it was explained, I wanted to see and delete his pain of those two years. That would give na additional 'tragic' touch to it. Nevertheless, this book deserves five bright shining stars ;) Badly hoping for a spin-off

“We want the struggle. The hardship. The burning glances and simmering sexual tension. The explosive potential of something that, in all likelihood, will never happen… because, on the off chance that it does… It brings the roof down.”

For two years, two broken souls hung in a purgatory of regret and heartache. Without music. Without hope. Without passion. Years later, the love, secrets, and addictions that once tore them apart are the same demons that will force them back together. In the epic conclusion to the Faded Duet, we get a peek into the future as the tortured souls of Felicity and Ryder come face to face after two years apart.

After losing Felicity, Ryder spiraled deep and lost his way; drowning in a penance of drugs, alcohol, and fame. Fast forward two years and he is a changed man. Clean, clear-headed, and determined as ever. I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of a character. Felicity, on the other hand, was hesitant to step back out into the spotlight and bare her soul, not only to the fans but to Ryder. She guarded it so fiercely, in fact, that I wanted to scream. However, I love, love, love the fact that she found her voice in book two. She grew into the woman she was always meant to be; headstrong, sassy, and fierce as f*ck. I, also, love that she didn’t take Ryder back right away. I love that she made him fight for her. She let his actions prove that he changed. Not only did she make him step up, but he in return expected the same. Expected her to fight for him, to fight for herself, and to fight for their love.

“My lips are a spark, his are gasoline.”

This book, this duet, wreaked havoc all over my soul. I. Felt. Everything. The intense angst seeped into my veins and wrapped its hands around my heart. The vulnerability both spoken and unspoken stole my breath. The passion and love flowed like a melody as chills danced across my skin. This second-chance rockstar romance was compelling and expertly crafted to draw every emotion from its readers. It explores pain, love, loss, longing, unbelievable joy, and the unbearable need to make things right. The tension was palpable, and the love was pure white-hot fire. This couple exceeded every expectation and broke barriers. Their armor was bent and bruised and their souls were shattered, but their love was the small spark that brought them back.

Jennifer

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

At the end of Faded I’d asked myself, can Julie Johnson top the Girl Duet? Will Ryder and Felicity be a more powerful couple, their struggles, their path to each other, than Katherine and Grayson? The answer is yes, at least judging by my book hangover.

We return to Ryder and Felicity two years later, find out how they have matured. Some things have changed, while others have not. Felicity in particular still has some major obstacles to face, and lessons to learn about herself. This book, in many ways, is about those lessons. And about the tour that brings them back together.

Julie Johnson brings us an epic conclusion to a love story that will stay with me for a long time. It’s so moving (I was reading this on a plane and I almost cried… ), watching Felicity grow, and watching Ryder learn to wait for her. I wish the last few chapters, which dealt with two major issues, had taken slightly longer, I felt that I could have used more insight into the reactions of our characters in those scenes. But that could be largely because I never want Johnson’s books to end. They are always incredible. (I’m pretty sure she could rewrite the phone book and it would be an item I would never put down).

In her acknowledgments, Johnson writes that she’ll be sad to part with Ryder and Felicity. She’s not alone. Their loss is my book hangover. So perhaps one day she’ll write her loyal readers an epilogue, we want to know what happens next. We want an Apollo.

Klappentext:

After reading Faded, I was so bummed that I had to wait a month for Unfaded, BUT it was SO worth the wait!

In true Julie Johnson fashion, the incredible writing style sucked me in as much as the storyline, which is something not every author can accomplish. Her ability to write these characters in a way that lets the reader feel exactly what they’re going through is special, and finishing Unfaded left me with the usual JJ-book-hangover that comes after finishing any of her books.

In addition to the great writing, I really loved the actual story/conclusion of Ryder and Felicity’s relationship. They both go through SO much together and apart, and even though two years elapse between the two books, the reader gets a clear picture of what happened in the time that passed. Not only that, but the growth both characters experience over the course of Unfaded was what made the book for me.

I truly loved this book, and it will forever be one that I wish I could read for the first time all over again. Wonderful conclusion to a fantastic duet!

I enjoyed this second installment of the duet, but not quite as much as the first one. Perhaps just a personal preference, but I tend to enjoy the build up of a relationship and thrill of the chase more than all the drama that follows.

In Unfaded, it starts out with a jarring time lapse. I wasn't expecting it after the cliffhanger from the prior book so that took a little adjustment. As the story unfolds, I kept feeling like there was too much back and forth - I love you, I hate you, I love you again, etc. And the ending left me wanting so much more. An epilogue would have been great, as I felt like there were quite a few untied ends here. Maybe this is by design because it seems like there's a setup for a spinoff book, but as a reader of this book, I felt like I needed more.

Things I did like - the characters, their dialogue, the dynamic of the band, and the general story.

I truly loved this duet!! I'm already planning a reread 😉. Not going to hand out any spoilers, but I really didn't want their story to end. The character links between Felicity & Ryder's story & the Girl duet were fun (reread that series between Faded & Unfaded.... So glad I did 😍🤗). Loved the relationships between all the main characters, experiencing the changes & growth. Julie really knows how to weave an amazing story!!!! Would love to read Aiden & Carly's story (hint, hint 😘)!

I loved this book! It was the perfect conclusion to Ryder and Felicity's story. It was written with absolute perfection.

You could feel the pain from both of them. There were times where it felt like my heart was just being ripped out of my chest.

Simply amazing.

I really want to know about Aiden and Carly next.

Julie Johnson is a heart wrecker!

Oh boy what a book! The first one ended on a sad note and then we go forward a bit in time to see where everyone ended up. Well all I will say is that it takes quite a while for our two heroes to find a middle ground and some happiness. It’s a heart rending tale that is so very real. Ms. Johnson has captured me from her very first book and she hasn’t let up yet.
