Michael 'Cannon' Santoro, has been called Cannon forever. His nickname came as a child and nobody calls him Michael. He's currently on medical leave staying with his brother Tony and today is a gathering of friends. Oz, Gage, and Lefty are there with their wives and children, the conversations are varied and relay the fun of the occasion although it does start to get a bit heavy as they discussed the injuries from Cannon's last mission. In the growing silence, Lefty asks Cannon for a favor. Kinley has agreed to be interviewed about the Alleyway Strangler and he wants Cannon to stick by her like glue. He wants to be sure the narrative is controlled not only because of his job but also the stress it puts on Kinley.

Jolene Whittle writes best selling true crime books. She is thrilled that Kinley has agreed to an interview for a story that really needs to be told. When we meet her she's a bit anxious since it's a once in a lifetime chance and she's also being met by a friend of theirs who will be escorting her around. The flight itself becomes stressful when the man seated next to her knows far more than she is comfortable with. The ER doctor seems to me to be far more than just a fan.

Cannon rescues her from the man's persistence but this isn't the last of it. Cannon and Jolene face many things throughout this book, and their relationship is a simmer to sizzle one.

We see a lot of the stalker in this and knowing the behind the scenes is a bit disturbing.

Once Jen has me enthralled by the story and on the edge of my seat waiting for the next shoe to drop.

One thing you can always be sure when you read Jen Talty's work is that there will be twists and turns and suspense and dram and this her latest offering is no different

Jolene Whittle is an author that writes about serial killers but only ones that have been solved because she knows that if she started down the rabbit hole of unsolved cases she would work on the unsolved murder of her parents and that would probably break her Now she has the chance to tell Kinley's story of surviving The Alleyway Strangler Kinley has never spoken to the press but she feels safe telling her story to Jolene as she shows great compassion to the victims the only rule is that Delta Force soldier, Michael “Cannon” Santoro has to be present at all times at the request of Kinley and Gage “Lefty” Haskins her husband. Jolene is fine with those conditions and is even a little happy because not only is Cannon gorgeous but she seems to have picked up a stalker herself. Throw in the fact that the Near Death Killer also seems to be in the vicinity having a delta by her side doesn't seem to be a problem But as danger gets closer can he really keep her safe You will have to read to see

Jolene Whittle writes true crime novels. She is now going to interview Kinley who played a role in bringing down the Alleyway Strangler. On her short flight in first class, the man who set beside her became annoying by asking all kinds of questions about her. He told her he was an ER Doctor with a degree in forensics and gave her his card. When he asked her where she was going and why, she said to see her boyfriend to get him off her back. When she arrived at the airport, he wouldn’t leave her side so she hurried into Cannon’s arms and whispered in his ear to play along. Cannon was there to pick her up and stick with her for his friend whose wife she was interviewing. As Cannon is a Delta Force on leave, he was glad to help his friend but when more murders were happening and the doctor kept texting her about them and that he wanted to talk to her, things weren’t adding up and she wouldn’t respond to him. As Cannon and his friends worked with local law enforcement, they realized several discrepancies in the reports that came out of the forensics office by the examiner. Will answers be found before some other woman dies? How much danger is Jolene in?

Although Jolene Whittle has received acclaim as a true crime novelist, she has never written about the one case that destroyed her earlier life, her parents unsolved murder. When Jolene meets Kinley Taylor Haskins, it is to tell Kinley’s story of survival. Part of her agreement means that Delta Force soldier, Michael “Cannon” Santoro, will be her shadow during her visit. Cannon is unlike anyone she has ever met. He is kind, empathetic to her past tragedy, and HOT! Recent murders have been committed that mirror ones by “The Near-Death Killer”, who has never been caught. When a doctor that she met tries to convince her to get involved in the investigation, Cannon believes that Jolene is in danger. Does the killer plan for Jolene to be his next near-death victim? Help comes from members of Susan Stoker’s Delta Team Two. I liked Jolene’s strength to survive the immeasurable loss of her parents and Cannon’s feelings as he struggles with the injury to one of his teammates. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

I received this arc for an honest review

Great read the story starts off with Jolene Whittle on plane on the way to interview the woman who brought down the Alleyway killer (Previous book). On the plane she meets a very push E.R doctor who even though she states she has a boyfriend still is very pushy.

Michael ‘Cannon’ Santoro is on leave after a mission he was in went side way injuring his team a team mate.
Whilst on leave, his buddy Lefty a fellow delta asks him a favour, a journalist is coming over to talk to his wife Kinley and he wants Cannon to be just keep eye out as he can’t go due to base training and he doesn’t want Kinley to have to do this alone also to make sure Kinley has control of the narrative.

From the first meeting when Jolene hugs him and asks him to play along as the doctor she meets on the plane is still not getting the hint she has to improvise
When a serial killer starts killing closer to home it begins to seem that the killer and Jolene are on a Collison course.

Jolene is a true crime writer that comes at it from the viewpoint of the survivors - never writing about unsolved crimes. Having lost her parents to murders that have never been solved, she can truly relate to the survivors. She is on her way to Texas to interview Kinley about her experiences with the Alleyway Strangler. Kinley’s husband is very protective of her, and asks Cannon since he is on leave from Delta Force if he can help them out by keeping an eye on Jolene to make sure she doesn’t go digging too deeply into what the special forces do.

En route to Texas Jolene is pressed repeatedly by the guy sitting next to her on the plane to get together, and to write about the unsolved murders. Since he is an ER Dr he wants to confer with her and keeps pressing the issue. Jolene pretends Cannon is her boyfriend, who is more than willing to go along with that. She is quickly glad that he is there as things get crazier. Loved all the twists and turns as things evolve.

This “new” series is sort of a spin-off of the Delta Team One and Two by Susan Stoker. So if you, like me , have enjoyed those books, you are in for a treat.
This one belongs to Michael/Cannon Santoro whose brother was the hero in Rescuing Aimee.
After a mission that sent one of his teammates to the hospital, Michael is feeling guilty and out of sorts. When asked to meet, greet and keep an eye on Jolene Whittle, he is more than happy for the distraction.
Jolene Whittle is a crime novel author and her latest project investigations seem harmless, danger surrounds her.
Needless to say the attraction is there and as the investigation proceeds the danger grows and the past comes back to create problems.
This was a good start for this new series.
Fast paced , full of action, and interesting characters.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Could have been amazing

This story and plot needed a much longer story. Everything was so rushed when it could have been drawn out to build suspense. Even the two leads deciding to be together was anti climatic. At no point was I like oh man I need to know what happens next. I'm hoping this is just because it's a book written around the Susan Stoker world so I will try one of her books outside this series and hope for a better outcome. So much promise. Honestly this author could be flipping AMAZING if she took a little more time and drew out her story and suspense. Fingers crossed for the next book I read

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy. Jolene comes to Texas to do research for her new book and encounters a doctor on the plane who is pushy about her doing a story on a current case. Jolene only does closed cases. However her past holds the unhappy memory of her parents' murder. Cannon is asked to be her escort as a favor to Lefty and Kinley. When Cannon and Jolene meet, they are both attracted and very comfortable with each other. Cannon helps Jolene gets answers. This story is a full circle for Jolene with a happy ending.

Shielding Jolene (Special Forces: Operation Alpha)
Delta Force-Generation Next, Book 1
Jen Talty

True crime novelist, Jolene, comes to tell Kinsley’s story.
Cannon is sent to pick her up at the airport and gets unfavorable vibes about a fellow passenger. How will all this play out? The story grabs you and keeps you reading until the wee hours.
Soulmates meet and want it to work. Can they survive a serial killer so they can have a HEA? Loved Cannon and Jolene as the hero and heroine. Can’t wait to read more in this series. I received an ARC for an honest review.

I really enjoy Talty's writing, but she needs to hire a new editor. The book is full of typos, extra words, missing words and misplaced words. With that said, the only thing I found lacking in this story was the spice that Talty normally includes in her romance novels. It was desperately lacking. Nothing really happens in the bedroom, or anywhere else for that matter. Other than that, the plot flowed smoothly, the suspense was good, and the characters brought believability. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

Outstanding! The plot has a lot of moving parts that the author ties together. Jolene Whittle writes true crime novels after the case is closed. When researching for her new book, her subject requests Cannon Santoro keep an eye on her. Jolene and Cannon find they have something from their past in common. Recent events draw them closer together. The characters are well-developed and realistic. This is an awesome read I highly recommend.

Michael "Cannon" is ask by another Delta Force friend Lefty to pick up Jolene at the airport and keep an eye on her while she interviews his wife about the Alleyway Strangler. Jolene's past starts to unravel with present day. Who is Dr. Justin? Why is he so interested in her past? Can Jolene and Conner solve the mystery before something happens to Jolene? There's lots of mystery, drama, suspense, secrets and romance.

This book hooked me from the opening scene. I was pretty quickly invested in seeing Jolene get her long-delayed justice and watching Cannon prove that the character I’d earmarked as the villain was guilty. That all those tensions and emotionally fraught moments drew the pair together, was just icing on the cake for my romantic heart. To me, this story is all about the resiliency of the human spirit.

Jolene's parents were murdered which led her to write about solved murders. She is in town to interview a witness to a recent murder trial. While in town she is guarded by Canon, a friend of the witness' husband to make sure is safe. It doesn't take long before the bodyguard duties get serious. Is it the story that is putting Jolene in danger or is there someone from the past? A great story and I look forward to the next book in the series.

Jolene writes true crime novels, ones that have already been solved by the victums accounts. Cannon has some free time so a friend asks him for a favor, to keep tabs on Jolene since his friends wife was the victum in this case. Surprises come to life, answers and danger. HEA.

I always love reading about our armed forces guys and gals. They are true heroes who go above and beyond and never get enough thanks. I finally figured out close to the end who did it, and that's the way I like it.
