Christian Jacq is a French author and Egyptologist. He has written several novels about ancient Egypt, notably a five book suite about pharaoh Ramses II, a character whom Jacq admires greatly.
Jacq's interest in Egyptology began when he was thirteen, and read History of Ancient Egyptian Civilization by Jacques Pirenne. This inspired him to write his first novel. He first visited Egypt when he was seventeen, went on to study Egyptology and archaeology at the Sorbonne, and is now one of the world's leading Egyptologists.
By the time he was eighteen, he had written eight books. His first commercially successful book was Champollion the Egyptian, published in 1987. As of 2004 he has written over fifty books, including several non-fiction books on the subject of Egyptology.
He and his wife later founded the Ramses Institute, which is dedicated to creating a photographic description of Egypt for the preservation of endangered archaeological sites.
Between 1995-1997, he published his best selling five book suite Ramsès, which is today published in over twenty-five countries. Each volume encompasses one aspect of Ramesses' known historical life, woven into a fictional tapestry of the ancient world for an epic tale of love, life and deceit.
Jacq's series describes a vision of the life of the pharaoh: he has two vile power-hungry siblings, Shanaar, his decadent older brother, and Dolora, his corrupted older sister who married his teacher. In his marital life, he first has Isetnofret (Iset) as a mistress (second Great Wife), meets his true love Nefertari (first Great Wife) and after their death, gets married to Maetnefrure in his old age. Jacq gives Ramesses only three biological children: Kha'emweset, Meritamen (she being the only child of Nefertari, the two others being from Iset) and Merneptah. The other "children" are only young officials trained for government and who are nicknamed "sons of the pharaoh".

Jacq scrive un romanzo che è indirizzato a un pubblico molto giovane, raccontando una storia accattivante e intrigante di un ragazzo nell'Antico Egitto. Forse un po' inverosimile in alcuni punti, ma di certo quei punti utili per introdurre qualche nuovo personaggio appartenente a una diversa situazione sociale, o un nuovo argomento. Sicuramente bellissimo e, in misura adeguata, anche istruttivo. Non può non conquistare i piccoli amanti dell'egittologia, che vorranno senza dubbio saperne ancora di più.

Le 5 stelle forse sono esagerate, ma ho un ricordo bellissimo di questo libro, in quanto mi venne regalato dalla mia cara nonnina. Ricordo comunque che lo lessi 2 volte e fu sempre una lettura piacevole, scorrevole e avventurosa. La storia potrebbe sembrare troppo fantasiosa in alcuni punti, ma io ne ho un ricordo bellissimo.

Avevo già letto Il Ragazzo che Sfidò Ramses il Grande quando avevo 12 o 13 anni per una gara scolastica. L'ho riletto con piacere.

Das Buch hat mich zuerst vom Cover her sehr angesprochen. Mädchen stehen eben auf Gold ;-) Dann das passende Ägyptische Auge und es war gekauft. Natürlich habe ich zuvor von Christian Jacq schon einiges gelesen wie auch alle Teile von "Ramses".
Inhalt: Es handelt von Kamose der das Unrecht das seinen Eltern wiederfährt nicht dulden kann. Er bricht, nachdem er beim Bürgermeister war und dieser bestätigt das Setek das recht hat seine Eltern von ihrem Grund und Boden zu vertreiben, nach Theben auf um die Unterlagen im Katasteramt einzusehen. Doch er ist nicht würdig. So beginnt er eine Handwerkerlehre. Er darf als begabtester Schüler an einer Zeremonie mit Namen Braut des Nil teilnehmen, wo er sich unsterblich in Nofret verliebt. Weil ihn seine Arbeit und Benühungen nicht in den geschlossenen Tempel bringen, wird er Schreiberlehrling bei dem Alten. Dieser wird gefürchtet unter den Kollegen, jedoch genießt er hohes Ansehen beim Pharao. Es gelingt Kamose die Priesterin Nofret zu sprechen, diese setzt sich bei ihrem Vater für ihn ein, denn auch sie liebt ihn. Der Vater kann ihr keine Bitte abschlagen und sieht sich die Unterlagen an. Es ist alles rechtens. Kamose ist am Boden zerstört bis Nofret sich bei einer Zeremonie an den Pharao wendet als sie allein mit ihm ist. Er möchte das Kamose sein Anliegen vor dem Rat vorbringt .Doch die glauben nicht an einen Fehler des Katasteramtes. Schließlich greift er den Pharao höchst selbst an. Jedoch wird der Pharao hellhörig als Kamose Setek den Soldat beschreibt. Es fügt sich wie es zusammen gehört. Unrecht wird bestraft.
Mein Fazit: Dieses Buch ist leicht zu lesen und auch nicht sehr dick. In nur 4 Stunden hatte ich es durch. Also was für einen veregneten Nachmittag. :-) Alles dreht sich um Kamose mit ein paar Abstechern zu den anderen Figuren. Es hat mir gut gefallen, doch etwas mehr Spannung hätte der Geschichte nicht geschadet.

Non raggiunge la sufficienza per via di una trama e dei personaggi mai veramente brillanti e originali, ma che si ancorano saldamente ai comodi stereotipi dei film d'avventura. E' chiaro che l'attenzione dell'autore si focalizzava sull'ambientazione più che su trama o personaggi innovativi, nondimeno il libro ne risente e anche a dieci o undici anni, con ben poca esperienza del genere, non l'avevo trovato un granché.
Non raggiunge la sufficienza per via di una trama e dei personaggi mai veramente brillanti e originali, ma che si ancorano saldamente ai comodi stereotipi dei film d'avventura. E' chiaro che l'attenzione dell'autore si focalizzava sull'ambientazione più che su trama o personaggi innovativi, nondimeno il libro ne risente e anche a dieci o undici anni, con ben poca esperienza del genere, non l'avevo trovato un granché.

I absolutely loved this book! It's an amazing story about a young man's love and respect for his parents and his passionate love and adoration for a young and beautiful woman of a higher class.

Voici une histoire simple, bien présentée, écrite pour vous séduire et enrichie par les détails dans son récit qui vous entraînent dans un monde ancien et passionnant "L'Égypte de Ramsès II".
L'histoire nous met dans la peau de Kamosé, un personnage agréable, bien écrit, parfois plus complexe de ce que l'on pourrait attendre , permettant reconnaitre rapidement ses motivations et ses doutes, on arrive à s'identifier parfaitement avec lui.
C'est un ouvrage qui donne l'envie de lire plus à propos de l'Egypte antique et découvrir sa culture, sa magie, ses rituels, l'écriture hiéroglyphique, non vraiment là cette petite histoire assez basique et classique est arrivée a me piquer la curiosité pour toute cette mythologie, ça pourrait être aussi une porte d'entrée vers la littérature surtout pour les jeunes. Si vous ajoutez musique égyptienne ancienne de fond pendant votre lecture l'expérience s'enrichit énormément.
