Have you ever wished your cat could talk to you? If so, allow my story to be your cautionary tale.
Tracking down Aunt Lavender’s kidnapper is proving to be more difficult than running through a swimming pool filled with peanut butter. Every lead we uncover ends with more questions than answers.

We’re running out of ideas—and time, too. The mysterious Golden Lotus seems to hold the key to the investigation, but no one can tell us what it does or why Aunt Lavender might have been looking for it.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep both my cranky feline familiar and me completely occupied, we find ourselves thrust into the center of another criminal investigation—this time as the lead suspects.

We have to work together to clear our names and get the Winterspell PD off our tails so we can continue our hunt for Aunt Lavender and the mysterious Golden Lotus.

Time is burning faster than the wick on one of my enchanted candles, and I fear it’s about to sputter out.

**Cursed Claws is book three in the Nine Lives Magic series by Danielle Garrett. These magical cozy mysteries are full of hijinks and purr-fect for anyone who wanted to adopt Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.**

What makes this cozy series better than average?
It's fast, funny and action packed. Instead of overly cheesy characters talking about the mystery we have a handful of funny characters actually sleuthing and solving the mystery. Plus we continually discover more clues on our quest to find Cora's missing aunt. For a mindless, feel good cozy this series is very good.

This is a very funny book and I loved how everyone whether good or evil was getting roasted by the talking cat Selene!

I still enjoy the snarky and often annoying cat familiar Selene.
And I like the ongoing missing Aunt Lavender storyline.

My favourite Danielle Garrett series.
Will read again whenever I need a bit of Selene snark in my life! Or even better listen to it read by Amanda Ronconi.

Book three is every bit as good as the first two. Cora and Selene are still looking for Aunt Lavender but things get put on hold when the candles Cora made for a charity auction put their recipients into comas. This is a very good mystery with just enough humour, a snarky but adorable cat and a bit of romance with Clint.

After solving another mystery, advancing in her love life, and still wondering how they will ever find Aunt Lavender, Cora the air-illusion witch and Selene her cat familiar find themselves the suspects of the latest mystery to hit Winterspell.

Cursed Claws is the third Nine Lives Magic mystery and works best read/listened to in order since the main series plot threads are continuation through the series.

Cora’s in high cotton these days after settling things with her ex and feeling good about where things are at with newer love interest, Clint. Her Wicked Wicks is doing good business enough to hire an assistant even for the off season. The only real fly in the ointment is that she and Selene have hit a brick wall with their investigation into Aunt Lavender’s disappearance.

But, before Cora can get too settled with her situation, Selene catches the assistant with her hand in the candle basket, a rich business capitalist wants her to think big and franchise, and some of her candles cause a malicious mayhem that lands her on police radar. Clint and a few friends stand by her, but this time Cora is in real trouble.

I like how these are light and easy, but are ever so well developed. The mysteries are clever, but also the way the reader is drawn in to Cora and Selene’s hilarious and acrimonious witch-familiar relationship, her romance with Clint, but also her need to finish off the past with ex, Roger, her time with her family, and also her search for her aunt. Cora’s own need to acknowledge and accept her strengths and needs to grow in certain areas. It all blends to make a fabulous story.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much further the romance and their investigation for Lavender advanced in this one leaving me in high anticipation for the next book. All in all, it was sensational and I can heartily recommend it to other paranormal cozy lovers.

Amanda Ronconi continues to deliver stellar narration work. She makes Cora and Selene shine and has an easy mastery of all the voices and the tone of the books.

I rec'd an audio digital of the book from Tantor Audio to listen to in exchange for an honest review.

There are some inconsistencies in the plot between books 2 & 3. Characters who worked together in book 2 apparently meet for the first time in book 3. While I enjoyed the story, I found that hiccup jarring.

Picking up a couple weeks after the conclusion of the previous story, Cursed Claws opens with Cora dealing with employee issues. Her candle shop is doing well, but the staff she’s hired isn’t working out. So when she gets a large order from Winterspell Chalet millionaire August Nell, she knows she needs more help. But when those candles put their users into an unwakeable coma, Cora needs to find out what happened to her candles before her shop has to close for good… or worse.

Cursed Claws is the third offering in the Nine Lives Magic series. I enjoy that there is a substantial plotline that continues from book to book, and that we witness character growth and development over the course of the series. The book’s standalone mystery is very personal to Cora: she is accused of hexing people with her candles. Since the police don’t believe she’s innocent, Cora must investigate solo (with the help of her familiar, Selene, of course). While it is a good mystery, and I enjoyed the plotline, I didn’t love that Cora’s wares are used in the crime for a second book.

As for the ongoing missing Aunt Lavender storyline, Cora and Selene make some decent headway. They also enlist the potential help of another female witch treasure hunter. Additionally, I enjoyed the continuing romance between Cora and Clint. Overall, I enjoyed the balance between the mystery, Lavender’s disappearance, and Cora’s personal life. And while Selene still annoying at times, she is growing on me.

Narration: Ms. Ronconi continues to provide the voice of Cora and her friends. Shared in the first person POV of Cora, Ms. Ronconi provides an upbeat voice for Cora, matching emotion fitting to the story. Ms. Ronconi alters each character’s voice based on age, gender, background, and species. And Selene’s voice is still awesome- a perfect fit for the annoying cat.

Cursed Claws is another fun entry in this paranormal cozy mystery series. I enjoyed the story, but really like that we see progression in both Cora’s personal life and the missing Aunt Lavender story.

Rating: B
Narration: B+

Consistently cozy and nice. It was great to continue this adventure, I like how we have one main mystery of aunt Lavender that spreads throughout the series, and a new one in every sequel. Selene is the goat, I love her and Cora's relationship development. Also, it was interesting to meet a little darker witches. Can't wait to continue.

Selene and Cora have determined Lavender has been abducted, Cora's mother is still trying to reach her through scrying but has been unsuccessful. In the meantime, Selen and Cora are still trying to figure out what the Golden Lotus is.

At the beginning of this book, Clint and Cora acknowledge there is something between them. and Clint announces his determination to stay in Winterspell as their relationship moves to the next level.

Cora is hiring someone new to work in her shop, Angie has been late far too many times and then Selene catches her stealing candles. Selene is a really tough HR cat. I really got a kick out of her interviewing methods, and I really loved how she is bested by Lily. Lily really is the best choice to replace Angie.

In an unusual twist August Nell, the millionaire we met in the previous book, comes to Cora with an investment idea. He also thanks her for accepting his order for gift baskets to donate to a charity auction on short notice.

Unfortunately for Cora the gift baskets end up with a candle in them that she did not make and quite a few possible suspects who could have made the change.

Clint gets her a lawyer, and he as well as the police investigate the candles and the apparently changed spell.

Cora and Selene also continue their quest to find Aunt Lavender and make some starling discoveries.

This book is full of intrigue and surprises and I couldn't put it down.

4.5 stars

Each book in this series is increasingly better! I buddy read this with Sophia and she also gave it 4.5 stars. We both ending up gobbling the book up in just 2 days, thanks to a fantastic storyline and Amanda Ronconi's 5-star narration.

I've grown really invested in these characters - Selene continues to crack me up, Danielle Garrett has really captured the voice of a cat (and Amanda Ronconi voices it perfect). We're seeing more of Cora's family, which I like, and I also enjoyed the developments in her relationship with Clint.

I think what made this book especially good, though, was the mystery and the way it put real pressure on Cora herself. She's worked so hard to have her thriving business and just when things are looking great the bottom falls out. The mystery had me guessing (in all the wrong directions) and it ended with a really unexpected and fantastic action scene. The excitement was really up a notch!

And last - but not least - we had some surprise twists and developments in Aunt Lavender's situation. It has left me even more excited to see where the next book will take us.

I will definitely be continuing listening to this series - Amanda Ronconi is a great narrator and particularly does well voicing these characters. I'm enjoying it immensely, at 2x speed.

The Quest Continues

Cora's shop, Wicked Wicks is doing well. Except for Angie, her full-time emp!oyee. She's always late, ignores the customers & leaves for coffee on a whim. When she's caught stealing, Cora has no choice but to fire her. The new assistant is much better & laughs at feline familiar Selene's snark. Clint & Cora are slowly building a relationship. When August Nell orders several magic candle gift baskets for a charity events, Cora is elated. But when some of the winners of the baskets fall into an unbreakable coma, she's accused of using Shadow magic & possible arrest. Clint's lawyer keep her out of jail but her shop has to close. That leaves her free to investigate not only who cursed the candles but continue the search for kidnapped Aunt Lavender. Both problems need to be solved before Cora loses her beloved shop & possibly Aunt Lavender. Selene is more hindrance then help with her sarcasm though she does help with the magic.
I would recommend reading the first two in the series to get the full background but this is also good as a standalone novel. Welcome to magical Winterspell.

entertaining Supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. If I’m cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Torrey is a witch owns a candle store in a magical town. Her mother and her brother also live in the town. Her aunt lives there as well. Her aunt was a magical treasure hunter and would often disappear for periods of time in search of different treasures. At some point when this series began her aunt disappeared without letting anybody know that she was leaving and without taking her typical gear and precautions. Core helps try to find her aunt but they’re having no luck. She also happens to get entangled into different issues crimes or mysteries going on around the town. Sometimes she just ends up having to help someone else and on occasion someone in her family or herself. Along with her snarky familiar Celine her family and friends, they always figure something out and find out what’s going on. Redone and follow the adventures and see if they ever find her lost aunt.

Cora has some problems. First, something happens to some people who have used her candles. They put into a coma.

Then there's the problem of her ex-husband still being around while she and Clint are getting closer.

Yet another problem revolves around her Aunt Lavendar, her kidnapping and some kind of ancient artifact that is of great power.

She has somehow to solve all three problems. Fail the first and her business crashes and she ends up in jail. Fail the second and she loses the new love in her life, Clint. Fail the third and she never finds out what happened to her aunt.

One other thing to consider, though. If her aunt is found and returns, then will Selene, her cat, stay with her or return to Lavender

The book manages to deal with all three mysteries quite well. She also shows her strength in somehow dealing with all three without falling totally apart. Clint seems a good potential love interest. Selene is, as always, snarky Selene.

Good enough I intend to keep reading the series.

This is book three of the Nine Lives Magic series. In this book, our MC Cora, and her resident cold blanket, Selene (who is still more annoying than funny) are still looking for Aunt Lavender but that gets put on hold after the candles Cora made for a charity auction put their recipients into comas. Now Cora and crew need to track down who cursed her candles and all the while, deal with the repercussions of her being the prime suspect.

The romance with Clint is still moving along, and thankfully the triangle with Cora's Ex is at an end. The person who cursed the candles wasn't the one I suspected, which is a first for this series. Great twist there and this may have been my favorite story with Selene too. We're still looking for what Lavender was looking into when she was taken.

Overall I will continue to recommend this series. It's a fun, light, cozy read with a good mystery.

Cora and Selene are continuing their hunt for Aunt Lavender and her mysterious kidnapping. They are searching through her house looking for clues. Cora’s mom also tries to do a scrying session again. She is able to connect with Lavender, but Lavender can’t hear them or communicate back.

Cora’s business has really started to pick up so she hires Angie. Angie tries to steal from her and Cora ends up firing her over it along with attendance issues. Cora replaces Angie with Lily and is able to focus her attention on the creating the gift baskets she was hired to make for a local silent auction. Shortly after the auction four people who had bought Cora’s candles wound up in comas. The police think Cora put a Shadow Magic curse on her candles. Clint swoops in and gets Cora a lawyer, but it’s up to Cora and Selene to solve the mystery around Cora’s hexed candles.

Cursed Claws is Book 3 in the Nine Lives Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett.
I absolutely adored this book, and the entire series for that matter.
Cora and her (passed down) familiar are still searching for her aunt Lavender but the trail has gone cold. Meanwhile Cora's magical candle shop has been busy as ever, that is until something happens (no spoilers) and puts Cora right at the center of a police investigation. Cora and her boyfriend Clint investigate.

I love how the romance is moving along between Cora and Clint. This was a great story with a well written mystery, that kept me guessing until the end.

I look forward to more books in this fun series. Selene, Cora's familiar is such a snarky scene stealer and I love it!

I have been binging this series on audiobook (2x speed for the win!), and while it's a lot of fun, I do feel frustrated by the lack of world building.

It's a community of magical creatures and everyone has magic and yet nobody seems to use it? And nobody seems to understand it? Except for the talking cat, of course. Nobody is surprised by the talking cat and yet it seems she's the only one of her kind in the entire community.

It feels like the magic is a second thought.

The mysteries are also pretty obvious. I'm 3/3 for guessing the guilty person, which I always figure out when they are introduced. That's not so bad, I don't mind predictability.

Overall it's a fun series and ai am enjoying myself which is all that really matters.

Cursed Claws by Danielle Garrett is another fun adventure for Selene and Cora as they find themselves in the midst of a new investigation—this time with Cora as the prime suspect.

I enjoyed not knowing the culprit right away, even if it wasn't the hardest mystery to solve. The tension of piecing together clues kept me engaged throughout the story. It was particularly satisfying to see Clint and Cora taking a united stand, and I cherished the moments when Selene's tough exterior cracked to reveal a more caring side.

While I absolutely love these books and eagerly anticipate continuing the series, I did notice some repetitiveness here as well. A bit more proofreading could tighten the narrative. Despite this minor flaw, Cursed Claws remains a delightful, quick read that excites me for the next installment.

Cora has been cursed by some wretched of a soul but she doesn’t know how, or why.
She does know the whole town thinks SHE is the one who has done the hexing (nope, not her, so Cora must solve the mystery along with her feline sidekick Selene, and fast or bye bye to her popular custom candle store Wicked Wicks.

Her dashing boyfriend Clint hires an attorney to defend her, when the local lazy lout of a sheriff insists she is the villainess and wants to arrest her. In the meantime, Cora kicks up her research following the clues and enlists the support of a hilarious cast of family and friends and when the true evildoer is revealed, it is a shocker.

Well written, entertaining and an absolutely worthwhile read

Cora and Selene (her familiar, talking cat) must solve another mystery to keep Cora out of jail and her candle shop open. Her love life is beginning to move along as she begins to sort through her feeling regarding her ex husband. Aunt Lavender is still missing though presumed alive, and help against her will. I just love Selene’s hilarious quips and additions to their conversations. Very fun read, and Amanda Ronconi always does a phenomenal job narrating if you prefer the audio book. (If you get the book in KU, you can usually get the accompanying audiobook for a discount so you can flip between the book and the audio depending on what you need or prefer.) ❤️

So. Much. Fun!

Clint en Cora are so cute together! One more thing for Selene to be grumpy about LOL. But that grumpiness is done in such a way that it makes me smile. But wait. Could Selene maybe, just maybe, start to care for Cora? Nah! Or? The mystery was twisty and I guessed wrong, and I love that. Great book! The kind of book that sticks with you long after you’re done reading.

Don’t read this as a standalone. There’s a strong overarching plotline about Aunt Lavender, so even though each book has a standalone, solved mystery, you really should read this series in order to enjoy it the most!

This is the third book in the Nine Lives Magic paranormal mystery series by Danielle Garrett. I liked the characters, the mystery, and the weirdness. The story is told from Cora’s perspective.

The story begins 10 days after the second book. Cora has help issues at the shop. She also has a rather large order for a conference to fill. The candles cause a sleeping sickness among it’s users. The mystery is to determine who monkeyed with the candles and where is Aunt Lavender.

I listened to this book on Hoopla from my library. I own an e-book copy of this book.

Amanda Ronconi does a wonderful job as the narrator. Looking forward to the next story in the series.

Cute Magical Mystery with a Sassy Cat

💖 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📚 Genre: Cozy mystery, magical
💻 KU: Yes
#3 in series

💕 Positives:
* The mystery was intriguing yet hard to solve.

* Selene's sass was perfect. A few scenes with her left me laughing.

* Glad that her romance is moving in a different direction than the last book.

🚫 Negatives: None.

⚡Trigger Warning: None.

🌟 Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It's rare that a 3rd book in a series doesn't follow the 3rd book curse, but this one was just as good as the first two. The characters are well fleshed out, the small bit of a romance is fun and I enjoyed working on the mystery.

Onto number 4 in the series!

Cora is commissioned to make several candle baskets for a fund raiser at the local posh club.
Angie, a former employee of witchy wicks who was fired, decided to get back at Cora by messing up the baskets. The much put upon secretary put a sleeping hex on the candles that she thought were for her boss so she could get some much needed respite from his demands. It back fired and the people who bought the baskets when into comas. Cora was blamed, but found the culprit and cleared her name.
Cora and Selene found the missing book, minus several key pages, and clues that led them to the golden lotus. Still no luck finding Aunt Lavender.

Curses and candles

Cora hits it big when a rich guy buys a bunch of gift baskets for a charity event. Then people start falling into comas. Her mom tries to scry her aunt but Lavender cant seem to hear them. With her name, and business, being drug through the mud, Cora isnt sure she will survive.

This one was such fun! Im really enjoying the evolution behind Cora and Clint's relationship. And the developments in Lavender's case. I sort of suspected who the bad guy was this time but didnt know the motive and enjoyed how it all turned out! Cant wait for the next one!
