Cosmic Kissed #3

Dubious Treasure

Rate this book
She wanted what any other woman wanted, love. He wanted to return home to his most prized possession, his hoard. But fate has other plans. Plans neither of them suspected.

Tommie

She never expected to find love or to have a family of her own. It just wasn’t in the stars for her. Or for anyone really. With humanity half dead, and the remaining elderly males locked away in protective domes, she was one of the last remaining humans left.

The last of humankind, teetering toward the brink of extinction, thriving on today, ignoring the sorrows of tomorrow.

So when Earth suddenly announces its brand new program, the Re-population Initiative, and introduces several mated pairs who had successfully conceived, of course Tommie was ecstatic. For the first time in her entire life, she was given hope for a second chance. But then she got sick and everything changed.

Vaethys

Lured, tricked, and sent to Earth to be a mate, Vaethys does everything he can to avoid fulfilling the deceptive contract he suddenly finds himself bound to. All he wants is to return to Zrestia, to his precious hoard and the deep oceans his heart calls home.

But just as things were starting to go his way, something unexpected happens. He lays an egg.

And if there's one thing this drakon knows, it's that he cannot return home without his unexpected mate and their unhatched young.

Dubious Treasure written by Harpie Alexa, is part of a collaboration of authors collectively known as Cosmic Kissed. This book has no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

No entendía qué pasaba!

So much potential, but requires editing for content and grammar

Part of the Cosmic Kissed collaboration of multiple authors. Can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, as there aren’t reoccurring characters per say, there is just an overarching theme revolving around alien-human mating services under the Repopulation Initiative.

** If you have not read the story, the following may contains spoilers, but hopefully only enough to adequately explain my opinion and/or to support my rating. **

⛔️ Contains subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to sensitive readers, such as: adult language; mental health challenges of depression, anxiety, etc.; two semi-steamy intimate scenes; violence such as abduction, coercion, fraud, fighting, tortured, interrogated, threats, etc.

The story universe, especially around the island they are stranded on, has strong descriptions. The characters are interesting, but there are gaps and more information needed with a couple of them to really bring them to life for me. I was looking forward to reading this story after reading the blurb. Unfortunately, the storyline / plot for this story is a lot stronger than the delivery imo.

There are a lot of ‘teasers’, references to things, but no details are ever provided. Such as with Vaethys’ first love, Thana, a female from Zrestia that somehow embarrassed him in front of his family. What did she do? Then there are references to secrets, but they are never revealed. What about his inability to shift fully? Why is it mentioned several times, but no reasons as to why he lost the ability, how long it has been, etc. are given? What happened to make Vaethys so hateful, angry, and distrustful of everyone, but especially females? Was it all about what Thana did?

There is more, but I think I have explained why I had to lower the rating. It is only because of the potential of the story that I rated it 3 stars, especially given the other issues.

I include the following for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. There are a lot of grammatical errors throughout the story. These include typos, incorrect word tenses, incorrect word choices, extra inserted words, missing words, incorrect punctuation (commas, periods, quotation marks), transposed words, etc. There are also inconsistencies within the story on the name of Vaethys’ planet (Zrestia vs. Zresta), inconsistent formatting with possessive words ending in ‘s’, and then there is a section at the end of Chapter 27 where the story just ends. It is unclear if something was deleted from the story, or if that was where the author planned on ending the final chapter before beginning the epilogues. Regardless, it is missing the period and needs additional details imo to finish the scene. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.

4 1/2 stars - This is a "Very Slow Burn" alien romance story. This is about Vaethys a drakon who was tricked and pushed on the Cosmic Kissed ship and when he demanded to go back home, he was forced thru the mating program making him distrust "All Humans" and Tommie who works at Second Chances who just got back from having cancer surgery. Vaethys escapes during a stormy day taking Tommie and they land on an island. Vaethys who has hit his head when he bashed into the rocks blames Tommie kidnapping him and Tommie is angry for being taken. Two combative people are now stranded on an island. Will they find a way to achieve getting their desires? This story did keep my interest while reading but if you are looking for a "steamy" romance this isn't your book since there is only two mating's because they're arguing between themselves or in denial. I would classify this story a clean romance even with the knotting mentioned. The topic of cancer and how Tommie feels is addressed along with Vaethys distrust. Overall, the story was an enjoyable read and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

almost gave it a two star

I am very much in favor of slow relationship build up and “dislike to love” stories.
This one though was so messed up. From the male so full of anger, hatred, mostly unfounded. His lies (which caused him to think everyone was one.)
Then there is the earth Mate match groups, I thought after the other books exposed the dark sides to the public and legal system it would have changed.
Frankly the story of them getting together did not make sense. And what happened with the alien hate group? They let them get away?
I felt like the story should have been 90% rewritten.
Would have been good if a wave had washed them away, then they had to stay together for survival. No other humans, just old shelter.
Then they were found and the second chance and other groups exposed for not doing their job. And advocates for the aliens fighting for their input, rights.

Different but Good

What an entertaining story. I laughed and snorted and just kept flipping pages. A emotionally wounded alien with amnesia that falls for an equally emotionally wounded human female. With abduction and cover-ups, this book had it all. And the best part was that unbelievable ending! Fantastic job Harpie Alexander!!

???

This book has left some unanswered questions like " what happen to the drakon who was responsible for his kidnapping ?" Where was the apology to her ? Where were the women who she worked with , saw her fall in and him take her ? How did he end up the way he did ? Definitely an Interesting story . I hope the updates are released soon.

Drakon's dubious treasure.

Tommy and Vaethis are the most unlikely of couples. With the Drakon's amnesia after he saved Tommy when she was swept out to sea and with the terrific storm that got him wounded and bonked on his head when they were swept into an island. Vaethis is a very angry Drakon who got railroaded into a mating program. It is all so convoluted but enjoyable.

LOVED IT

Amazing story loved how they went from hating each other to mildly annoyed love and then domestic bickering also love how they showed how women aren’t the only ones who can be hurt and end up in denial also the unfairness of a system just a lot of really amazing details in this story I loved it from beginning to end

Not my style 😣

I truly have loved this series, but this book just doesn't work 😝. Too long winded with nothing but bitching and moaning, it really blew the story 😕. I'll try the next book just cuz I love the series and I usually thank the author, but I just can't on this one, sorry 😣.

Not my favorite from Alexa.

I loved the plot line and the concept, but the level of immaturity of the two main characters was a big let down for me. I felt like I was reading about two high schoolers. Was a little disappointed since I love this author.
