When it comes to motley crews, the Blackout has most starships beat. But as a ruthless force swarms over the quadrant, crushing and enslaving all civilizations in its path, it falls to this unlikely band of non-heroes to turn the tide. If they don't kill each other first. Invade , the fourth book in the Blackout series, is old-fashioned space opera at its best, perfect for fans of action-packed drama and fun! The Blackout series is an homage to thrilling pulp sci-fi of yesteryear. If you're interested in hard science fiction look elsewhere. But if you're looking for action-packed adventures on strange worlds with even stranger aliens, this series is for you!
This episode finds Captain Jackson Keough on Apra, trying to unite the several species presently being targeted by the Krakzid, to help populate the available warships and fight back. In addition to the infighting among his own crew, Jackson is faced with major obstacles between races who do not want to cooperate with each other, but he is the only one trying to get them all together. Can he possibly assemble a strong enough force to effectively stand against the Krakzid? Mr. Young continues to mix high action battle scenes with intrigue and double-dealing, constant set-backs and surprises and a bit of humor into an easy read that is engrossing and entertaining. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and intend to stay with it until the finish. I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion – and I purchased a copy to support this outstanding author.
I read all 4 of this series in late September 2022, so they are still fresh in my mind. Although I could follow the storyline easily and there was plenty of action, I found much of it to be not so credible. For example, the spaceship battle scenes. No matter how small they are to the larger spaceships, they cannot maneuver tightly, whether in the atmosphere or in space. It's impossible. They have to make wide loops, hundreds of miles at the least, in order to come back to the fight. Or to get away from it. No known weapons can be that accurate in a space battle can act as some are described here. Weapons in space need to be line of sight as there is no atmosphere for them to maneuver in. Other than those minor/major mistakes, they were an enjoyable read. Also, I would suggest that all of these books should edited a bit more closely.
What a surprise the crew of the Blackout are back and so are the Krakzid. This time Jackson has a better plan and tries to get allies to help fight the good fight. Of course things do not do smoothly but that is the fun of this series. All my favorites are back too and so is the action, danger, insanity that is the Blackout crew. I laughed and was entertained as I had to read the story to the end to see what was must be faced and overcome this time. And do not forget the interactions of the Blackout crew themselves which is half the fun.
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. For once there seems to be hope for the people of Zennith and the war against the Krakzid. With the unique alien species Captain Keogh aboard the frieghter uniting to give the Krakzid one hell of an epic battle of crazy skills. Whether it's in deep space or upon crafty alien worlds... Invade just delivers and deepens the wild time you spend immersed within in it... highly recommended.
This book was a very good read it had plenty of action both in space and on different planets. The book was full of surprises and a few new aliens show up in this book too. Now that they have somewhat of an army they will try to put it to good use and pick at the enemy bases little by little.
What another amazing story. Captain Jackson tries to unite a few species. Plenty of action to keep your attention. You never know what will happen next. The Captain definitely knows what to do, to makes things better, but can he do it on time.
I really enjoyed this series. I read the first 4 books and really enjoyed them. A bunch of misfits trying to save the galaxy? What more can you ask for. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
