Two Dominants.

One a Navy SEAL.

One a Mistress facing a hell she can’t escape.

Luckily, hell is just another day at the office for a SEAL…

Abigail Rose is CFO for Thomas Rose Associates, a successful New Orleans marketing firm she runs with her best friend Rosalinda Thomas, and their three fellow executives, Cyn, Vera and Skye.

Since all five are Dommes, they work and play together. However, Abby has lived with the threat of a severe mental illness for most of her life, and now the monster has come out of the shadows. Everything that defines her—including her control as a Mistress—is shattering.

Neil Shepherd is so calm under pressure, his SEAL teammates know he’ll hold the line, no matter what goes down on a mission. At home, he finds his peace navigating the waters of the Louisiana bayou. As a Dom himself, he shouldn’t be attracted to Abby, but Fate doesn’t consult the power exchange playbook when it comes to who is meant to be together. From the first time they meet, he knows he wants her. Even the shadows that are trying to claim her won’t stop him.

My head actually hurts from all of the emotions I’ve felt while reading this book. You ever get like that, from all the emotions you try to hold but they just have to bust through because you're feeling as if you are right there with the characters you're reading about and feeling everything they are going through? Well, that's what happened with me while reading At Her Service, which is why I only read one book at a time because I want to feel all the feels while reading each story. Neil and Abby’s story will take you on an emotional journey and you can only hope there’s a HEA at the end because as in life, nothing is guaranteed.

Neil has been trying to get Abby to go out with him for a while but she shoots him down constantly, we all believe it's because she's a Domme and he's a Dom but it's so much more than that. Life has thrown a wrench in Abby's plans and now she needs to make some changes, and those changes do not include the good looking Navy SEAL, but will he stand by and do nothing or will he fight for the woman he wants?

I am fairly new to Joey W. Hill's books, in fact the first one I read by her was At Her Command , the first book in the Mistresses of the Board Room Series , and I have to say that I really love the way she writes because she pulls you in right from the very first page and doesn't let you go, even after you finish the book...it just stays with you. I have a feeling I will be recommending this book for a long time, because this isn't your typical BDSM story, not even close.

If you enjoy BDSM Romances I highly recommend not only this book but this series to you.

Happy Reading!!!

As CFO, Abigail “Abby” Rose is a logical woman and can assess risk with ease. Now, Abby’s fears have come to fruition and she believes her future is based on the past. As a Navy SEAL, Neil Shepherd is pragmatic and a believer of finding the calm in a storm, but Abby may be the one to leave his deepest scar.

“Could her mind, her will, move into the protective shadow of his, not to submit, but to find reinforcements, a haven from the things that chased her.”

With Abby being a Domme and independent, her strong will is evident and this creates incredible sexual tension with Neil who also has a dominant personality. But beyond the physical, Abby and Neil learn how to depend on each other in other ways.

Given the subject matter in this narrative, the execution is carefully crafted showing the difficulties Abby, Neil and the secondary characters experience. What intrigued me the most was Abby’s struggle and how she and others dealt with it. Also, one particular scene with Tiger was quite satisfying.

At Her Service is about the struggle with mental illness. This book would appeal to those seeking a romance that doesn’t take a predictable path.

Title: At Her Service
Author: Joey W. Hill
Genre: Erotic Romance
Type: Standalone Book 2 of 5 from Mistresses of the Board Room series
POV: Third Person
Rating:
3.75 Stars

Control was what drove Abigail (Abby) Rose’s daily life both in the boardroom and the bedroom. But a lifelong fear finally caught up and threw her off her axis. Neil Shepherd might be new in her life but taking on challenges was what he thrived on even if he didn’t know how much it would change his life.

Abby caught my attention in the previous book, and I was excited to learn about her story. However, I struggled with the book length. It was unnecessarily long and very slow in the first half. There was too much information (on supporting characters and their backgrounds) that was not significant enough to make a difference. Also, long strings of inner monologues tested my attention span.

“This path is only going to bring you pain, Neil.”

I found their relationship dynamic interesting, and I loved how the author tackled two heavy subjects and how it affected everyone’s lives. However, I felt the ending was a little too easy making it anti-climatic for me.

At Her Service is a story of finding balance in one’s life. It would appeal to readers looking for a BDSM book centered on a story of real-life struggles.

There is a whole bunch of goodness to this story, but you’re going to have to work for it. When I say work for it, I only mean the book is pretty long and for me, the inner monologues went on for too long and were entirely too numerous. I’m an action girl, so I really enjoy my books to be more conversational between the characters. However, this type of style works really well with an audio book so if those are your jam, then this story is gonna rock your world! LOL

Joey is one of a very few number of authors that I trust with my BDSM storyline stories, and she once again did not disappoint with At Her Service. She brought her A-game with the intensity and passion between our leads. Every time the book focused on Abby and Neil it was riveting, emotional, passionate, and quite suspenseful at times. Honestly, it was the focus on other things / characters / etc that made the book longer than what I prefer but GAH, I could have read about Abby & Neil forever.

This world that Joey has created with Mistresses of the Board Room is very captivating and very well written. In both books thus far she has made sure to incorporate real-life circumstances in the web of fiction that she writes which make the stories that much more relatable, even if the BDSM environment is not part of your real life world. I’ve been in love with Joey’s writing style since the Knights of the Board Room and I look forward to even more!

This book is powerful!

I don't like angst, but this is different. It is intense. No one makes poor decisions; no one misleads anyone else. This is a story that invokes the deepest emotions based on real issues and enormous challenges. Challenges larger than life or love, that requires a big group of strong friends to even manage, not to mention overcome.

I was so engrossed that I

Oh, and there were a handful of really good sex scenes - one in particular.

This is now my favorite BDSM author.

It really wasn’t that erotic. Not a whole lot of sex even. But it did have romance and relationship development. Just more in the context of Abby’s mental illness issues.

I think this will be the last book I read by this author. Progressively I’ve been enjoying her stuff less and less. I’m really not a fan of this joint ownership by the lady Dommes of the men in their lives. I didn’t feel like either Neil nor Abby were particularly dom like. I was expecting something else from this book and it’s not what I got. I think it delved too much into Abby’s mental issues. I didn’t want to wade thru all that. I’m a romance reader. A deep feeling, intensely passionate romance is what I want. There was emotion and intensity here, but not exactly what I was looking for.

Fluidity and adaptability allow resilience in many things. This is both shown in At Her Service and Ms. Hill's writing style. In the latest Mistresses of Board Room, it is less about BDSM and more about the human condition. I loved reading this book because it tackles hard problems that society would prefer to sweep under the rug or pretend never existed. Ms. Hill must have spent many hours, weeks, and months researching for this book because it is thorough and to a layman's eye, education and eye-opening.

5 Star Review At Her Service (Mistresses Of The Boardroom #2) by Joey W Hill
Another great addition to what is quickly becoming one of my favourite series from Joey W Hill. A series about Mistresses of The Boardroom? Heck yes. This is Abigail (Abby) Rose and Navy SEAL, Neil Shepherd’s story. The fact that they are both Dominants only added an extra level to the story with the push and pull of their relationship.
Abby is a successful CFO and a woman known for her business acumen. Living with the possibility of a mental health illness Abby has always known the day might dawn when she would lose control. Despite the fact that they are both Dominants, Neil wants Abby with a fierce determination. He will fight with everything he has in him to help her keep the demons at bay.
This book, was well written and I was riveted from the first chapter to the last. Abby and Neal are strong, commanding characters. Their journey is rocky but it was entertaining and at times nail biting to follow them.
The scenes are emotional, steamy and you will be drawn into the story. The roller coaster of emotions that Joey W Hill brought to this blew my mind. It was an emotional journey not only for Abby and Neal but for me as well.

This is, again, one of those times when this type of valuation system is woefully inadequate.
How can you rate a story like this with a measly handful of stars?

Two strong, self-reliant people living on the edge of "normality". Both Dominants, each managing their own "split-level" lives, including daily variables that can - and frequently do - change from one second to the other.
When they meet you can feel a rumbling in the atmosphere, there is no doubt they are made for each other.
But fate can be a cruel mistress and in this instance she is frankly insidious.
How Ms Hill narrates, in her distinct descriptive language, the hell they - and their friends - are going through, is by turns heartbreaking, infuriating, deeply moving, and infused with a love that spans all of the above.

As always, the research and deep understanding of their circumstances, and life in general, Ms Hill demonstrates again and again is phenomenal.

This is a definite must-read!!!

If you have read any of my posts, you already know that Joey Hill is my favorite author. She knows how to pull you in, show you an incredible world whether contemporary or paranormal, and ensure that you come out of the experience wanting to be a better person, spouse, mother, friend.

When Joey releases a new book, I usually read it twice in the first week. This book took me a week to read after I procrastinated to read it to begin with! It wasn't because it was boring or inane, it was because it was so emotional. While reading, I had to take breaks. I "knew" where the book was headed, and I just didn't want to go there. We had highs, "She felt strong, alive. Foolishly optimistic. Foolish enough to flirt with a man she shouldn't flirt with." We had lows, "I would like it, if you and Ros are the last faces I see." queue sobbing for the hundredth time
This book is about not giving up, even if you know you think you don't have an atom's worth of hope to change the outcome. This book is about faith and love, "He's who I want, sitting in my soul, streaking across my sky. Carrying me when my footprints are lost, holding my hand when I walk on my own. Staying at my side, or following or leading. He belongs to me."
Neil has some great women in his life, his mom, MeeMaw, and Tessie (marine's daughter who he checks in on). Tessie is still in high school, yet she gives Abby some of the best words about Neil, "You help with his darkness ... Heard him talk to my mom about it. Said Neil's walked right up to the darkness, stood with it. He doesn't fear it, because he always holds onto the light that's in it and around it. Never loses his way. My dad says you could follow Neil into a storm and know, even if he can't get you where you're going, he'll never not be there, standing at your side."
I am a major Seal Team fan; it's one of my most favorite television shows. I think this gave me a good perspective to understand Neil's character and his relationships with everyone from Dale to Tessie. I also live in Alabama, work with a bunch of crazy Cajuns, and love New Orleans, so I can "see" (and hear) where they are.
By Chapter 22, I was just limping along ... I read the first paragraph, a mere (2) sentences, and I had to turn off my Kindle (yet again). I just didn't want to get to the ending. "Come on," I can hear you other Joey fans saying, "she would never ever do this to us." All I have to say is Sir Knight and Lyssa's daughter, Rand's entire family, Leonidas. Anyway, there was a fun comment by Abby to Neil making a joke about trampling a fairy that took me to VQS, "It's not good to piss off the Fae." It gave me a big smile during a sad scene.
When you reach Neil's rumination about speaking to a customs agent in Switzerland, and you have no more tissues left in your box, get another box.
There are some pretty incredible women in this book from the Mistresses themselves to MeeMaw, "Lotta pain in the world. Lotta pleasure too. That was what MeeMaw always said. Incomprehensible savagery and astounding gentleness," to Della, Amy, and Celia. Learn from them, I hope to!!
I hope you all find someone "real and true," and live life like Celia, "We take life like a riverboat around here. We'll go where the current takes us tomorrow, and enjoy the journey."
OORAH, Joey and thank you ❤

With her characteristic compassion and empathy, Joey Hill has written a book which contains issues rarely discussed or described in a manner which is skillful and clear. She does not shy away from delving deeply into the topic, thereby drawing the reader into a world that is rarely revealed. With love and commitment wrapping around this heartfelt story, I was enraptured from start to finish. This is not unusual when I open one of Joey's books, but my responses were slightly different this time and I am sure this was because of Abby's condition and the fact that a I have a very dear friend who shared it. This book allowed me to enter into his world just a little and have a greater understanding of how he was now experiencing the world around him.
I have more than loved this beautifully crafted book. It has almost felt like a gift, one which has opened my own eyes and heart to a greater appreciation of and for this complex condition. I googled the living daylights out of it! And still, we also experience the sensuality and intense relationship world which is the hall mark of this gifted writer. The centrality of the deep bonds of BDSM relationships remains at the very core of the book alongside friendship and family. They are explored and realised in a very real way. Wonderful book Joey. 💖💖💖💖💖💖

A Domme meets a Dom, and it is truly love at first sight. And this is a hard concept to accept, especially for Abby. She is unable to see how this could possibly work, but Neil tries his hardest to prove to her that it can and will work. But there is a HUGE obstacle that makes everything difficult for them, and the people around them.

I have to admit, I had a hard time reading this book. I read a little bit every time I picked it up. It has some difficult subject matter. And in some ways, it had reminded me of my own personal situation - while definitely not like this one, but it was similar in other respects.

It is obvious that a lot of thought and research went into this book, which is to be appreciated by those of us that have never had an experience like this one before. It is a thought provoking story, and one that I enjoyed.

There are some books that just leave you speechless. This is one of those books. My heart broke for Abby and her struggle with mental illness. I cried at parts and I absolutely loved how Neil was with her. He was the light to her darkness and a true love, he sticks by her even when he knows there is no cure to the struggle. These two are made for each other and balance each other. These are two Doms that make it work. Neither are willing to give up that part of themselves but they lean on each other. Neil keeps her safe and in turn her submissive safe. I really did not want this book to end. I wanted to see more just because it drew me in and had me hooked.

This may be this authors best work to date and that is saying something. This is a powerful, beautifully ugly, heartbreakingly emotional tale of love and mental illness. It was my trust in this author that got me through this story. I cried ugly tears for Abby, Neil and the ladies of TRA. This author has never shied away from difficult subjects and handles this with compassion and clarity. I will be reading this story again and again.

Insanely beautiful story, extremely well written, and less about BDSM and more about relationships and struggle.

I’m so happy to have read the book but also happy to have it end, as I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride of emotions throughout it. Much heavier than the first novel of the series.

Abby and Neil grow closer and reveal more of themselves to each other. There is definitely more to Abby then we ever thought before. Neil and Abby keep their secrets close but can they trust each other with not only their deep secrets but with their hearts? Two people who love control need to learn how to give some of that up to people they trust. This was an emotional journey for both of them and the reader. I loved How strong and dependable the friend circle was. This book had a good story with some great twists and turns.

So damn excited for this book!

Post-release
Joey W. Hill is known to write about 'real' romances where people have medical conditions. If you are looking for a light fluffy romance, please turn around and move on. At 644 pages, this book is a whopper. There were bits of the book, I found quite repetitive.

Neil and Abby. Hmm, what can I say?
There's not much I can write about without spoiling the book. Let's just leave it at - Neil is amazing but their path together is not an easy one.

P.S: I personally read romance because of the nice endorphin high I get at the end, this book didn't give me one because it was quite heavy.

This was my first read by Joey, and wow, what a way to start..... I love a good BDSM read, this was that and then some...... a love story around a strong, powerful woman who has suffered in her childhood through helping her mum with a mental illness, who is now succumbing to the same illness herself!!

I must admit this is a story unlike anything I was expecting..... this is not an easy read in any way shape or form - the battle that Abby has to go through everyday just to scrape by!

Abigail (Abby) Rose is a strong, successful, powerful business woman along with her group of women friends running their own business. She has had a hell of a childhood helping her mum deal with and try and live with a horrible and debilitating mental illness. What she fears most is coming to pass, symptoms are appearing and there is no way she is going to live her life like her mother. As a Dom she is used to being in control and needs that in her life, which this is threatening to take away from her.

Neil Shepherd is a Navy SEAL, handsome, strong, powerful, with a gut feeling for things that has never let him down. Feelings for Abby start strongly and develop strongly, never having been in a predicament with a woman like this, he trust his gut and goes with it, even though he is a Dom himself and would never make a Sub that Abby needs.

But as the mental illness makes its presence known, they must weather the storm and find their way through it to calmer waters.

Hot, passionate, erotic but coupled with an emotional rollercoaster that really blasts you with everything that Abby has to deal with, along with Neil and her friends. It's a hell of a story, it will tug at your heartstrings and have you on the edge of your seat, then leave you breathless with the sizzling passion. It's a long book, very detailed and personally for me was tough due to having a relative with this illness. But nevertheless it was well worth the read, I enjoyed Joey's writing style and her descriptive and narrative ways and will definitely be reading more from her.

At Her Service was a category 5 hurricane of emotion for which I was completely unprepared for. It's the second in Joey W Hill's Mistresses of the Boardroom series but can be read alone.

Abby and Neil have been circling each other like hungry sharks for awhile now. They're ruthlessly attracted to each other but their respective dominant tendencies make a relationship problematic. Everyone believes Abby's reluctance to starting something with the delicious SEAL is concern over them both being dominants in the BDSM lifestyle but despite all those issues, all Neil knows is he wants to try.

What no one knows is there is another complication Abby is hiding. Suffering on her own with a mental illness that is becoming debilitating. It steals her mind and will and sense of self. A lifetime of pain watching her mother battle this illness convinces Abby that the people closest to her should be protected from her. She simply isn't willing to bring anyone in to her private pain, especially not a breathtaking SEAL intent on challenging her. But challenge her he does.

This book was...wow. It was actually really hard for me to read as the emotion it evoked often caused me to need to take a break. This book actually takes you inside the maelstrom happening to a person battling with schizophrenia and frankly it's terrifying, brave, heartbreaking, exhausting, and so many other feelings I can't name. It was disorienting in what must be just a fraction of what people going through this disease feel.

For every single person battling this disease, I wish for them Neil. I wish for them a man this beautiful, a man hardened enough by battle to withstand any storm but with a soul as resilient as the ocean tide. I wish for them this friend group; this group of Titans (Wonderwoman), who have created a family most men would fear to challenge. While I personally didn't care for everything in the story, this is a book with men and women who love so fiercely and bravely, it's inspiring.

At Her Service is the first book that I have read by Joey W Hill and I enjoyed this story overall. And from what I've seen online a lot of her other books include a lot of different types of diversity and are very inclusive and At Her Service is no different with her being very descriptive of the main character, Abby's, battle with schizophrenia. And honestly at times it was hard to read because there is no magic cure for schizophrenia, and while there is a relatively happy ending, the knowledge that she will always be battling this disease is always present. I will be definitely be looking up her other books as well. I will warn that Joey's description of Abby's battle with schizophrenia was very descriptive and there is talk about suicide which may be a trigger for some people.
Abigail "Abby" Rose is the CFO of the marketing firm, Thomas Rose Associates, that she runs with her best friends. But because she grew up taking care of her schizophrenic mother she knows that she never wants to see her friends see her that way. So she has a plan in place so they will never see her that way and she will be able to be in peace. But there is only one flaw in the plan that she has planned so thoroughly for years, and that is Navy Seal, Neil Shepherd. As much as she'd love to spend her remaining time with Neil she doesn't want him to see her spiral either and as she is a Domme at the BDSM club she belongs to and she just doesn't see him as a submissive.
Neil has liked Abby since they met through mutual friends and he knows she's a Domme but he doesn't care, he just wants the chance to show her that they can work together. What he doesn't expect is that as soon as he gets the chance to be with her her world will start shattering around her when she starts to exhibit symptoms of her schizophrenia. While he knows it'll be hard he wants to be there for Abby no matter what happens, no matter what she chooses to do, no matter how hard it'll be for both of them.

Just one of many unforgettable lines:

'My job is to protect you from all enemies foreign and domestic. Including what's in your head.'

Warning: There are difficult emotional topics in this book that may be difficult for some readers. Read at your own discretion.

Neilson 'Neil' Shepherd is a SEAL operative and a Dom. He's deeply committed to service, his family, his country and those he loves. He's the calm in the storm, even while dealing with his own challenges.

Abigail Rose is CFO for Thomas Rose Associates and a Domme. A successful, brilliant woman and Domme living with the threat of a severe mental illness that threatens all she holds dear.

Watching the dance between these two dominants while facing Abby's illness and end game decision was delicious and heartbreaking. There's a sensual give and take, wrapped in love as he retains command while she is in charge.

We get to see more layers of her friends and fellow executives, Ros, Cyn, Vera and Skye, as they endure the emotional upheaval of Abby's challenges and decisions in how to handle her illness. Watching their friend struggle while giving her all the support and love that they can.

Hill creates a story with the perfect blend of humor and seriousness facing the difficult challenges of an unforgiving illness and the value of a loving support network.

As a person with a different but nasty illness, I related to Abby on so many levels. The realism and the emotional depth were so realistic, it touched me deeply. Hill never fails to deliver, unique, poignant, emotional, complex stories that will captivate and touch your heart.

I won this novel in a contest on the author's Facebook page, over a year ago now. I was very hesitant to read it, mainly because I hadn't been able to have a connection with the heroine in book 1. I have no interest in Domme stories unless they're written by Joey W. Hill. I don't identify as a Domme at all, but I love Lyssa (The Vampire Queen's Servant) and Marguerite (Ice Queen: A Nature of Desire Series Novel). Still, I had reservations and placed the signed book within sight in my living room.
Recently, after not finishing a novel because of the poverty of the characters, I needed to read a story that took the time to do a good psychological analysis of the characters. My eyes fell on At Her Service, in the bookcase near my lazyboy, and I said to myself: why not?
And I was not disappointed. What a beautiful story! Tragic, certainly, but haaaa, in terms of the depth of the characters, I was very satisfied. And since my thing is Doms, let's say I was served by Neil's alpha attitude.
Obviously, Abby's schizophrenia is heartbreaking, and I had to take reading breaks a few times to wipe my eyes. But it was definitely worth it, I'm happy to have overcome my reluctance.
Oh. And the erotic scenes are smoking hot. :)
Thank you again Joey for this gift.

This was a first time author for us, and what a rollercoaster ride this adventure was with Neil and Abby.

We will have to admit that this story had our emotions all over the place. We loved the cat a mouse and the banter and teasing that went on between Neil and Abby, and it brought tons of smiles to our face.

The chemistry between Abby and Neil was off the charts. We thought that there would be more conflict between Neil as they we both Dom/Domme and both needed to be in control but, it seemed when they were in the bedroom together it was give and take, and they made their fantasies come to light.

We loved the support system Abby had and the friends she had because they would all play an important part in the choices that Abby would need going forward and the choices she would have to make.

Loved the relationship that developed between Abby and Neil there was chemistry sexual tension, desire, pleasure, tenderness and love, and he also never tried to change who she was or make demands because he knew that if he and Abby were going to be together they would need to embrace her BDSM lifestyle together with their being compromise.

Abby our heart went out to you for the life you endured and what you had to cope with all your life you were brave and strong and beautiful, and we understood the choice you were about to make and how you sought to prepare for the aftercare of your peeps considering that decision. What a loving heart...

Neil, we require more men in the world like you, the way you were with Abby in and out of the bedroom was heart melting, we have to say we teared up a time or to.

Final thoughts would be that this book made you feel every emotion possible, the good the bad and the ugly, and all the characters were awesome, and we look forward to getting to know more about them.

Neil you made it impossible not to fall in love with you ourselves from the moment we met you, and the ending to this emotional tale was perfect for this brave and loveable couple.

I finished this book days ago and it took me that long to try to find the words to express how this book made me feel.
This book touched my heart and soul with such an intensity I had to stop on quite a few occasions and take a breath. The topic of mental illness is one that is important to me and I believe that the author did an outstanding job of portraying the destruction it causes to not only the person who is dealing with it but also their support system.
Yes, Abby is a domme and I believe that is where part of her strength comes from yet her attraction to Neal (also a dom) may be off the beaten path but so very strong due to it.
This is the first time I have picked up a book by this author and it destroyed me in the most beautiful way. I have never had to put a book down for a day or two to level out my emotions before. So for me that says a lot. I will have to pick up the first book in this series, even though I'm sure it can't be anywhere as dark or strong as this one. I will though follow this author to see what comes into play.
I'm sure most readers won't take this book as seriously as I have but the content needs to be addressed along with praise for the author doing a superb job.

At Her Service is the 2nd book in the Mistresses of the Board Room Series. I wasn’t aware that this was the second book in a series but this book can be read as a standalone. Joey W. Hill is a new to me author.

This is Abigail “Abby” Rose and Neil Shepherd’s story. Once I started reading At Her Service it was very difficult to put this book down. I have never read a book that dealt with one of the main characters in a romance who had a severe mental illness. I mean how romantic is that. That said, this author tackled a really tough subject of mental illness with supreme delicacy. Sometimes you don’t get to choose who you love and love chooses you.

I am happy that I have discovered this author. The genre that she writes in is the type that I highly enjoy. Oh, and I don’t usually want to read stories with Dommes. Books with Doms is more my style. But this author has made me want to go back and read more in this series so I will be going back to read the first book At Her Command, in the series Mistresses of the Board Room.

This book was 5+++ Stars and I can’t wait to search out more books written by this author.

I was incredibly and beautifully moved by the love between Neil and Abby. Although their story takes us to dark places at times, it also inspires and uplifts with a portrayal of genuine, unconditional love. What this love cannot heal, it can embrace and hold dear and safe with the strongest power in the world.

My husband over 25 years lives with mental illness and as soon as I found out that Ms. Hill would be writing this book, I knew it would be a powerful read. I’ve read quite a few books by the author and I have always been impressed with how well she portrays issues of physical and mental disability.

Ms. Hill pulled no punches in portraying the difficulties of life for a person with mental illness and for those who love them. I related to this book on a visceral level that was not always comfortable. However, as an advocate for the de-stigmatization of mental illness, I felt was a necessary story of love and friendship for the times when that love is not easy.
