A killer is on the loose, and only one person comes to Chief Alex’s mind - Detective Angelina Lagarde.

Detective Lagarde has solved an arsonist case after being transferred to the Detroit police department from LA. However, she’s faced with another challenge when her superior gives her the task of solving a crime involving an apparent serial killer who is notorious for murdering teenage girls.

She teams up with her colleague, Jerry, recommended by her close friend Danielle, to take down this killer. Still, the killer continues to hide in the shadows, concealing his identity carefully and escaping all CCTV cameras.

She tracks the killer one day to a subway where she suspects he’s about to dump another of his victims, but an unknown person hits her on the head from behind with a club, and she lands in a hospital.

Will the attempt on her life be successful, or will she later catch the bad guy? Who made an attempt on her life? Is it her close friend, Danielle; her boss, Chief Alex; her colleague, Jerry; or another of the killer’s accomplices?

Author Clara Lewis has always been an avid fan of mysteries. As a child, she devoured the “Nancy Drew” and “Hardy Boys” series’s, which inspired her desire to write her own mystery thrillers. Though Clara’s journey took her in several different directions, she eventually published her debut series early in 2021.

Besides spending her time creating vast worlds and convoluted mysteries for her readers to divulge in, Lewis spends her time at her home in Portland, Oregon. As a mother and wife, she wears many hats, and can often be found baking and crocheting.

Lewis always had a passion for creating, and she wants nothing more than to provide the same thrills she loves to her readers. She loves to read (and smell) books just as much as she loves to write them! She has several projects in the works, and can’t wait to share them with her audience.

Detroit, MI. Another teen female body was found in the subway by Officers on patrol last night.
Chief Alex assigned Detective Angelina Lagarde (Detroit PD) & Detective Jerry (A/A) the serial killer case.
5/24/2001, Subway 56 (Grand River Ave). They arrived at the crime scene.
Next stop to see Dr. Cosby (forensics).
The CCTV cameras at the subway didn’t capture the murderer’s face because he was wearing a hoodie.

A car license plate was noticed.
Chief Alex called Detective Lagarde & Detective Jerry into his office.
They were off the case.
He warned Detective Lagarde again.
She was to go to Subway 19 tonight at 3:00 am.
A man pulled up in a van & pulled a body out of a bag.
When Detective Lagarde awoke she was in the hospital.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. It was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; BookFunnel; OddlyBooks; PDF book

Thank you to to Clara Lewis for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Detective Largarde has proven her intelligence and grittiness to solve crimes and clean up Detroit in the first book of this series, Inferno. I would recommend that you read it first to get her background story. She is a strong female character who truly wants to make a difference in her community. Young women are being viciously killed. Since she has proven herself to her Chief, he assigns this case to her and tells her to pick a partner. They are doing well with the investigation and find several great clues until the Chief puts a stop to the investigation. He basically threatens their jobs if they do not cease their investigation. She is very puzzled by his reaction. She soon learns that she has gotten a little too close to finding this criminal and someone is warning her to back off. However, that just lights her fire and spurs her further. She is stubborn and diligent in her investigation. This is book #2 of the series, and you will be starved for more when you finish this book as you are left "hanging" at the end. This was an enjoyable mystery with suspense and action.

This is part of the Detective Lagarde Series and very good. It shows a strong woman, Detective Lagarde, and how she can fight crime and bring the criminals to jail. She’s been transferred to the Detroit police department and right aways was ready to hit the roads and make a difference. She teams up with Detective Jerry and tracks down a serial killer who leaves the bodies in subways. What Lagarde didn’t expect was the chief asking her to stop working on the case since he considered it closed. That didn’t sit right with Detective Lagarded so she continues and does find the killer, an unexpected killer. The series has been very interesting with a little thrill and mystery. I look forward to additional books in the series.

Detective Angelina Lagarde is investigating a serial killer of teenage girls. She’s assigned as the lead investigator but something is definitely wrong. Chief Alex is acting in a very unusual way for him. He blocks her just as she’s being to retrieve the information she needs for an arrest. She continues to investigate anyway as she can be very stubborn in her job. There is an unexpected twist to the story that is shocking. This series gets better with each book that is released. So looking forward to the next one. Can’t come soon enough.

Detective Angelina Lagarde has solved her first case back in Detroit. She is given another case involving murdered teenaged girls found in the subway tunnel. She works with another Detective Jerry to solve the case, only to be blocked by the chief! I liked the story itself and the characters, but I found the dialogue between the characters a little flat and unnatural. I liked the narration and descriptions, just not the dialogue. I am looking forward to the next book.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.

This is a well written and concisely solved murder mystery. You learn a bit more about Detective Legarde’s background and methods in this second book in the Detective Legarde series. She doesn’t give up on her inner integrity by blindly following rules, which while admirable also puts her in dangerous situations. It’s a thoroughly satisfying read. I received a free ARC copy of the book for an honest review.

Excellent sequel

Detective Lagarde is a strong female character who overcomes her boss's resistance to her solving the case of girls found murdered and left at the subway. Her persistence and dedication to her profession are admirable.

I enjoyed this book. Angelina has another case to solve and as she starts getting leads, her chief tells her to back off. Angelina is determined to catch the killer. I like that each case is solved by the end of the book and not left with a cliffhanger. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys police procedurals. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I’m not so thrilled with the type of language used in this book. It’s a very small detail and does not detract from the plot at all- it’s just a little weird.
Angelina is a very private person. Still waiting to find out who she really is. Sounds lije she has a very exciting future ahead of her!
Good read!

Good story line

I liked the storyline with the detective but, I didn't like how polite everyone was to each other with greetings ect , most other books and tv shows with detectives are never that polite to each other.

It's only this series that I have found this with, hence the 3 star rating.

Angel is given an assignment by her chief, then he interferes with her just as she is ready to go for the arrest?? What is happening? As usual, this is a fast paced story that the reader does not want to put down until the resolution. I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Detective Lagarde is given a new case but is pressured to drop it when she comes close to solving it. A quick fast action book which leads to the next one in this series.

Trust your gut!

Though this is a short story, it held my attention from start to finish. The ending was a surprise. This is a really good book in my opinion.
