This book is something that has been missing from the permaculture collection for far too long. Looby draws on her experience in groupwork and psychology to look at people care from the perspectives of the permaculture principles. It should be required reading for anyone doing a permaculture design that involves people and if a design doesn't, why not? It contains many exercises and tools that will help the individual look at not just how they are addressing people care in their designs but it is also one of the best new books for years that helps the individual to look at their own life and where it is going.
This is the permaculture book that the world needs right now. I can already see that this is a book I will continually return to over the years in my study of permaculture. Thank you, Looby Macnamara, for bringing this amazing work into being.
Practical and easy to understand, this book takes permaculture into the personal sphere - for the individual, family, community, society and world. A must-read for anyone wanting a different outlook on how the world might be made better, learning from the best teacher - nature.
People and Permacukture by Looby Macnamara is a brilliant book on peoplecare aspect of permaculture. Very clear and easy read. I loved how guiding it is and the wide variety of topics it touches.
Permaculture has been very strong on Earth Care but one of its other key ethical foundations, people care, has often been under-valued and given only peripheral and shallow attention. This has been at our peril, as soil, water and plants can often sort themselves out with minimum intervention, and we have pretty much all the awareness, knowledge and technology to do the sorting if and when needed. Not so people, and how we motivate ourselves and others, and manage our relationships remains probably the most common reason for systems' malfunction, and failure to regenerate them to abundance and ever-increasing productivity. This book eloquently identifies the missing links to how we can do this, taking a deep look at ourselves, our relationships and communities, and illustrates with often embarrassingly simple pathways to regeneration of the soul - how can we look after the earth if we can't look after ourselves?
