ClaRina Kendall Faulk, eldest of the Kendall sisters, has always been the reliable one. Blessed with an immaculate home, handsome husband, and a lifestyle that most would dream of, she appears to be the epitome of success. However, no one knows the personal hell she goes through daily. Gwendolyn Kendall has forever had her older sister, ClaRina, to lean on and repeatedly bail her out of trouble. Constantly chasing love has left Gwen heartbroken and desperate, raising her kids alone. Gwen’s only goal is for someone to provide her with the unconditional love she desires by any means necessary. Beatrice Kendall was taught never to trust anyone and has been holding on to that her entire life. Using people for what she can gain has been her lifelong motto. Now that she is at the end of her rope, she must devise another plan. When the Kendall sisters are summoned by their dying grandmother, Clara, to return to their hometown of Timmonsville, South Carolina, they are forced to relive a tumultuous past. Seeing firsthand how sin, doom, and lustful natures have plagued their family, will they be able to face the demons that were once hidden? Can these deep-rooted generational curses be broken before the cycle continues?
Although this was a sometimes predictable story, I enjoyed the way the author developed each character and showed how the effects of their childhood impacted their decisions as adults. The only thing I didn’t particularly care for was how everything was wrapped up nicely with a bow at the end, but for this family dynamic, I guess it all makes sense.
The author didn't let me down. You hear about stories like this and the author brought it to life. These 3 sisters went through hell but in the end the person who did them wrong tried to do right by them. Great job Tara i look forward to reading more of your books..
Thoroughly enjoy this book. The characters took you on a world wind as a family. Definitely a page turner. Recommended by our New Beginnings book discussion. it is an amazing story of a family who loves each other but because of past hurts refused to show or share with each other. Three sisters who had been abused and were not close found their way back to a grandmother who opened her heart after decades of abuse finally spoke to each of them on her death bed. Clara taught us, it is never too late to have the talk that can change lives.
Omg what a moving, heart wrenching, loving, healing, heartfelt, truthful read. I so believe these words resonate with the Ancestors. Telling their truths has given such a release and much clarity. Thank you thank you for sharing Herstory and and knowing the cycle can be broken. Abuse is evil. This truth is one I will read again! So very worth the wait. Thank you, God bless always.
I loved this book was done in less then a day, a real page turner. This book will make you look back on your life and want to make peace with yourself!!!
Wow when this book first started I felt some kind of way... It seemed to have that unspoken darkness of abuse that no-one speaks about but everyone knows about. I only wish that we as people would speak the truth out loud... so those who are abusing secret will be out and the victims wouldn't carry the shame as if they did something wrong. This book was well written and I am glad the sisters found out that their mother did love them and her reasons of why she was the way that she was.
Author Tara L Thompson allows her readers to see the transparency within the Kendall family & home , the siblings uncover their truths with freedom rather the sisters want to hear what each other has to say or not.
Clarina goes beyond the call of sister duty taking on burdens that she shouldn’t take on to a fault especially within the financial backing of her husband.
Gwendolyn seems to have no regards as to what measures her sister Clarina go through just to make like happen for her sister while disregarding her own abilities.
Meanwhile younger sister Beatrice take on a more emotional experience of her mothers belief and feeling while unknowingly thinking that her two siblings are better off , Clarina and Gwendolyn thinks the grass is greener on the other side for Beatrice.
When these three siblings get together they will not only learn how to trust one another but to have an opportunity to here the truth as it is !
Mother Clara’s plan exposes hurt of her own and much needed forgiveness for all this story is filled with pain and healing of forgiveness. A 5 star must read ! Bravo!
Domestic Abuse is real. Its a generational curse that just keeps giving. I pray whoever reads this God reaches down and bless you and give you the wis dom to come to him to change. This prayer is not only for the abused but the abuser. I pray that reading this book you will find strength. I normally don't like these kinds of books dealing with child abuse and domestic violence but I'm so glad something compelled me to read it.
From Generational Curses to Generational Blessings
Ooh this book describes perfectly 'Suffering in Silence' syndrome. Thank goodness now some of the secrets are being told and the cycle can be broken. It was an uncomfortable read for me because as I read the story was playing out in my head like a movie. At least the ending was somewhat good.
This story take you on a journey of how some of our ancestors lived and what they had to endure. It opened my eyes on how generational curses starting with your ancestors on down to your offspring that the cycle can be broken.. Great Read !!!!
I just loved reading this book.It held my interest from the first to the last chapter.I think that it should be a sequel to this is because every character was so interesting.
I won’t give this one a star rating because not every book is for everyone and I think this one just wasn’t for me. Full of generational abuse, pain, and suffering. I’m not opposed to writings about this and other hard topics, I just didn’t enjoy this one.
When ClaRina, Gwendolyn, and Beatrice return to Timmonsville, they’re forced to confront the buried trauma, betrayal, and brokenness that shaped them. As generational curses rise to the surface, each woman must choose: repeat the past or finally break the cycle.
I could not put the book down I had to complete it . Wish it did not end with Harold dead but the abuse went on too long and because of his money, he felt that he could treat her any type of way and that’s not a way to live.
Who needs to read a book like this? No one. What is the point? It’s full of redundant violence, hate, cruelty and loathsome people. Don’t look for uplifting redemption.
Awesome storyline. (Sounds more like life rather than fiction. I am waiting for part 2 to find out if everyone involved can break the Generational Curse.
Sad that Mother Clara let this curse continue with her daughter and grandchildren, when she might have been able to stop it, but she thought child abuse was the only way she knew.
