Meet Dr. Ishmael Stone, Philosopher, detective, monster-hunter, primes inter pares of a shadowy network of supernatural guardians sworn to shelter the world from the Infernal Orders. Philosopher Rex opens at a moment of crisis as the old orders are fragmenting and the Philosophers dividing into rival camps. Stone and his comrades on one side of the battle, the craven Philip Delacroix on the other. Complicating matters: just when Stone and his associates need them most, their various abilities are inexplicably on the wane.
It's cold tonight in the Riker #13 coalmine. Thin cold, like a frosted knife, edged with tomb-dust from the bones of the world. It's half past midnight. And Bertie, poor Bertie Shum, is ready for a nip of his courage.
Having read the preview yesterday, it was a bit of a surprise that it was basically just the first issue apart from missing the final few pages.
Dr. Ishmael Stone is a detective, a monster hunter, and a philosopher. Together with his team, he is heading for a sleepy mining town where a terrible evil has been unleashed.
Not much extra from the preview but reveals a few extra bits. 4 stars.
