Sun, sand, and second chances. Jenny Hale’s magical storytelling made my heart sing. This was such a lovely, sappy, sweet, romantic, story. Sydney and Nate were college sweethearts and the plan was to spend their lives together in Firefly Beach. That is until Nate packed up his truck and left Sydney behind. It is over a decade before Sydney and Nate see one another again at Sydney’s sisters wedding. Nate is no longer the boy that Sydney fell in love with he is a big-time song writer with a supermodel girlfriend. Sydney is resistant to Nate’s attempts to talk to her. She is guarding her heart and now she has someone even more important to protect, her son from a previous marriage. Will Sydney and Nate find their way back to one another? Will true love prevail?

This is the second book in the Firefly Beach series, I have not read the previous book and I don’t think I was missing out on anything. However I do want to go and read Haley’s (Sydney’s sister) story in the first book. I really loved Sydney‘s character she was strong and open yet understandably guarded. I felt for her because she was so conflicted between her heart and her head. Nate, I didn’t absolutely love from the first, but by the end I could see he was a good guy and worthy of Sydney. All the secondary characters were wonderful I loved Cindy‘s family and her adorable son. The setting was absolutely stunning I’d love to go visit Firefly Beach. This was a touching Second Chance Romance with great characters and a gorgeous setting.

When this was dropped off as a donation to my Little Free Library Shed, I thought, this would be a perfect distraction. After all, it said on the cover she was a USA Today bestselling author and one of her reviewers touted her as someone who “writes touching, beautiful stories.” And, I really needed a good escape.

Who wouldn’t be attracted to this cover? A patio with two empty beach chairs staring out at the dunes on the beach with flying seagulls overhead. Sigh…😌 So, I dived in.

It became quite clear early on that this was a feel-good romance, that was also predictable, sweet, broke her heart, now he’s back, and a will-they-or-won’t they get together kind of story.

Also, apparently, this is the second story in a series of friends/residents of Firefly Beach where they focus on particular individuals and tell their stories in each of the books. And, in this book, it was Sydney’s story.

So, this book can be read as a stand-alone. Yet, I believe as in any series, it probably will have more value if readers want to know everyone more intimately to invest in the Firefly Beach series.

So, how did I feel? Was it a good escape? Sure. But it could have done better. I didn’t feel myself that invested in the characters. Still, would it have been better if I was invested in the series? That may be a different question for readers to consider.

3.5 stars rounded down.

Wow. Poetry in prose. Words written by author Jenny Hale surpassed everything that I had loved in her books to reach the wondrous heights that only love for writing would bring. This was my most favorite book. A gorgeous cover too, so apt.

The minute you stop thinking so hard is the minute the answer will come to you.

A direct quote from the book. My heart was so overwhelmed with the emotions and genuineness in the story that I could barely get some words out. I just felt too much, my heart was close to bursting. The characters Sydney and Nate, the situations, lovers moving apart, second chance at love, family, friendship all displayed the power of the author's writing.

A story about second chance love, two lovers meeting again at Firefly Beach and with many twists and turns and misunderstandings, they find love at the House on the Firefly Beach.

You have to live like there's no heartbreak. If you tiptoe around, trying to keep yourself safe, you'll miss all the moments that will make you who you are...

Powerful words as these were never spoken which etched their meaning into my very heart beat. Warmth coursed my veins as I continued reading, so convinced that the author dipped her quill not in the ink-well but in the passion of her feelings. The book spoke to me.

The story was a HEA, it might seem familiar, but the writing, oh the writing... It was très magnifique.

Bubbles of pleasure burst through me while I read the book, feeling so happy. My second book over the lazy weekend. Joyous times.

A sappy love story and I loved every minute of it!

This is the 2nd book in The firefly Beach series, but the first for me. I didn't feel I was missing out on anything by starting on book 2.

This a perfect light summer romance. Boy and girl fall in love, break up and fight against their lingering feelings years later. In this book, Sydney and Nate were lovers throughout college, and eventually parted ways. This book picks back up about 10 years later. You get glimpses of their past together as they learn to interact with each other again. You also get to know some of their family members. Overall, the characters were well developed and likable. This was a perfect romance, a little predictable and sappy, but I love sappy.

I very much enjoyed this story and will definitely go back and read the first book in the series.

Emotional and captivating.

This book is the perfect escapist summer read. It has a little angst, some bitter-sweet moments, a big and friendly community, and a second-chance romance taking place by the turquoise waters of Firefly Beach.

Sydney Flynn is back to her family's summer retreat, divorced and unemployed. All her goals and dreams were crushed, and she is trying to figure out how to move on.

Things get more complicated when the men that ruthlessly abandoned her years ago comes back to town. Nate Henderson is not the boy she once fell in love with anymore. He is Nate Carr now, a famous and rich songwriter who dates models and invests in real estate.

Nate is not easy to love, but he slowly grew on me. His relationship with Sidney's son earned him some extra points in my esteem.

My heart went for Sidney. I could feel her angst and pain. The situation she was in was so impossible. I liked how the author depicted her vulnerability without making her weak.

This was an emotional and engrossing read. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love a sweet romance and one set by the water is even better. Syd and Nate were the perfect couple and lets not forget about Robby. I want to play football with him.
This is the perfect ending to this series.
I can't wait to read more from Hale.

Sydney Flynn had love once. Maybe he wasn't her soul mate, but she was happy enough and was blessed to have a son. Now it is time for her to get her life back on track. She is even more blessed to have a place she can call a sanctuary, Starlight Cottage, willed to by her Aunt Clara, so it is back to Firefly Beach with eight-year-old son Robby.

In the first book in this series, Summer on Firefly Beach, Sydney's sister Hallie was blessed by their dear aunt, and along the way found her true love, Ben. It is at Hallie and Ben's wedding when she makes incredibly intense eye contact with Nate Henderson, the man that was undeniably the true love of her life.

Sydney and Nate were in love when they were teens, but they ended up taking different paths in life - Nate to Nashville where he became a highly successful music producer. Sydney followed her passion and became a professional journalist. The pair had a wonderful relationship for several years. Now that the couple are around one another again, is there a chance to start over?

For one thing, Sydney has Robby to think of. She must consider him, not just her heart, and if she would admit it, she is sure she could fall for Nate all over again. However, there are conflicts that the couple must contend with, so the road to love and happiness might be challenging.

I so love the little village of Firefly Beach with its lovely residents. It is nice to pick up a book like this where the characters warm your heart. There is more than a bit of angst with the book and this rounds the story up nicely. I loved Robby and really felt for him as he dealt with his father's loss, and the bonus of Nate developing a relationship with him was something very touching. Then there is Uncle Hank, and his sadness after losing his beloved Clara. Sydney's love and dedication to Uncle Hank was palpable.

This lovely story was compelling from page one and carried straight through to a wonderful conclusion. So, for the perfect summer read, I would say go and grab this book - and its prequel - at the first opportunity. I really hope there are more books in this series.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have very happy memories of reading the first book set in Firefly Beach – Summer at Firefly Beach – and jumped at the opportunity to read this sequel. This story also concerns the Flynn family, with single Mum Sydney as the main female character. Sydney returned to her childhood family home, Starlight Cottage, but she never anticipated the return of her teenage love, Nate Henderson. He left her heartbroken when he unexpectedly left to pursue his dreams of being a songwriter, something he’s been highly successful in achieving. Is this a second chance for these two? Can Sydney forgive him and learn to trust him again? As if that isn’t enough of a quandary, just how can she help protect the area around Starlight Cottage from developers who seem intent on making it a huge carpark and public access to the beach?

This is a heartwarming family drama with hidden motivations, secrets needing sharing, a beautiful community and superb setting. As usual with stories by this talented author, the characters are believable, their backgrounds complex and the whole story is packed with incidents and laugh out loud moments. It is a delightful read and brilliant to escape into. I would love to join this fantastic community and really hope she’ll be taking us there again in future. It is another emotive, enthralling romantic read, just what I eagerly anticipate when I know the book is written by Jenny Hale. Whilst it is the second book it is also easy to read as a standalone, a heartwarming family story that I loved reading and, just like the first book, I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending and if I could give it more than 5* I would!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Sydney loves her family cottage, starlight cottage, surrounded by turquoise water and beaches. She is putting her life back together . Then she sees her best friend from childhood, Nate, and her feelings are overwhelmed. Sydney and Nate spent their teenage years together promising forever to each other. But Nate drove away never looking back and it broke her heart. Sydney doesn't want to let him back in as she now has a son to look out for.
Now Starlight Cottage is being threatened and Nate looks like he may be in the thick of things or can he save it?
I really liked where this took off after the first book, Summer at Firefly Beach.

Oh dear...this one did NOT work for me. It's never a good sign when a book that's a little over 200 pages takes me FOUR nights to read.

Nate and Sydney were college sweethearts with big plans to spend the rest of their lives together. But just after graduation Nate breaks things off and leaves their small beach town, never looking back.

Now many years later (we don’t know exactly how many because we’re never told - but Sydney has gotten married and divorced, and has an eight year old son), Sydney has lived back at Firefly Beach for a year and Nate has returned for a wedding they are both attending.

This book frustrated me to no end. And the heroine frustrated me the most. Poor Nate kept telling Sydney he wants to talk and she constantly shut him down. But Nate was kind of a weeny, too. Good grief, man up and spit out your words! You’ve had plenty of opportunities, just start talking.

I’m not EVEN going to go into the stupid reason why Nate left Sydney behind (basically it boils down to young men do stupid things) or how it took him well over 10 years to go back for “the love of his life.” Not cool, man, not cool at all.

Then we have the glacially slow pacing throughout the book where almost nothing happens other than Nate shows up to talk and Sydney pushes him away, or someone interrupts. Just when things started picking up because Sydney discovers some information Nate hasn’t told her, he flys off for a job and we get a chapter which waxes eloquent about makeup and hair for a magazine cover. All momentum came to a screeching halt.

Add to that quasi other woman drama (Nate shows up with a date to the wedding but doesn’t do anything to set the record straight for many days - SO NOT hero-like behavior), a faux drama concerning construction in their little town, and the conflict which doesn’t get resolved until about 92% of the book, and I’m surprised I was able to finish this one.

The only thing I liked about this story is that the heroine didn’t forgive the hero right away.

I’m a big fan of the second-chance romance, but this one fell completely flat. Not communicating is the modus operandi of YA stories, not people who are in their 30s. And that’s all this story was...two people who refused to talk and were all “woe is me” about it.

I really fell for the location almost instantly, Jenny Hale writes such fabulous small town USA romances that I couldn't help but be enchanted by Firefly Beach and Starlight Cottage.

However the will they - won't they get back together between Sydney and Nate seemed to take forever to be resolved, and although I could tell they had chemistry when they were younger, I wasn't fully invested in whether they had a HEA or not.

But I was incredibly curious and what kept me reading was discovering the real reason Nate, not only broke Sydney's heart all those years ago, but also why he is back in his hometown now.

I was interested in Juliana's story as there is far more to her than you may imagine, and I also enjoyed getting to know the rest of Sydney's family and discovering whether or not they would have to sell Starlight Cottage.

A really enjoyable book from an author that I love reading.

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Thank you NetGalley and the always amazing Jenny Hale for one of my favorite beach reads. I started this but due to family stuff put it down on chapter 3. I picked it up yesterday and blew through the pages. This story was so well put together and left me guessing. No spoilers but there was laughter and tears with the characters which is how I judge a book. If the character sheds a tear and I do then it is a WIN!

For Sydney Flynn, her treasured family home, Starlight Cottage, is her sanctuary. The house on the beach, surrounded by glittering turquoise waters, is the perfect place for her fresh start, piecing her life back together after it fell apart. That’s until her knees almost buckle at the sight of Nate Henderson.

As teenagers, Sydney and Nate spent their summers whispering sweet nothings and promising “forever” to each other. Sydney never imagined that her childhood sweetheart was going to break her heart, driving away from her and Firefly Beach, never looking back.

Now, when Sydney spots him at her sister’s wedding, their eyes meeting across the rows of guests, she barely recognizes him. The down-to-earth son of a fisherman, forever in beach t-shirts and flip flops, is replaced with a successful songwriter in a designer suit, a superstar in the country music scene. Yet despite everything, his dazzling blue eyes and easy smile stir up all the feelings she thought she’d left behind.

Nate is back to make it up to Sydney, but can she forgive him for all the heartbreak he caused? And it’s not only about her – Sydney is a single mother to Robby, her whole world, and she won’t let just anyone into their lives. Can she trust that Nate has really changed?

I loved this book and can't recommend it enough for your beach bag or picnic bag for the park. It is the perfect Summer read!

Ugh...could I have gotten any more pissed off at Sydney in this story? So many times I wanted to lash out at her and tell her to just take a minute and hear Nate out.

Nate, on the other hand, did some really stupid things and even though I started out hating his character, he ended up being my favorite!

I loved visiting all the Firefly residents again and absolutely LOVED the relationship between Nate and Robby!

This would make for a nice, light beach read. Though I do have to say the story had moments of me saying “get on with it already!” But, with that said, I rather enjoyed this feel good kind of story. This is a story of young love gone awry and overcoming past mistakes.
The main characters, Sydney and Nate, are very likeable and I love how their relationship matures as they mature.
This is my first Jenny Hale book and I hope to get a chance to read more of her books in the future.

The House on Firefly Beachis book two of Jenny Hale’s Firefly beach series. I really recommend reading book one, because it’s wonderful ;).

I was really happy to see that Sydney is the main character in this book. I fell in love with her son Robby in book 1 already. Sydney Starlight Cottage on Firefly Beach is home. Her family is there, she’s at the beach and it the perfect place for a fresh start.

The story starts with Hallie’s and Ben’s wedding. This is where Sydney meets the love of her life Nate again. A lot has happened since they last saw each other. He left her and start a career as a famous musician. They were inseparable, inspired each other to write (she a writer) and shared many wonderful moments together.

Well, that was a long time ago. He has a new life now, he’s famous and she is divorced and has a son. She still hasn’t forgiven him. He desperately wants to explain himself, but it’s easier said than done, especially since he took his “girlfriend”Juliana with him as well.

Nate and Robby start to bond immediately though and the chemistry between Sydney and Nate is undeniable. I love how Jenny Hale captured their unique connection. And then there is a new development that threatens Starlight Cottage. Nate might even be involved with it.

I was happy to see that Sydney started writing again and there is a great little gem in the storyline connected to it.

I was hooked to the story from the start. I fell in love with the main characters and the setting. Firefly beach is amazing and I love how Jenny Hale created such a beautiful setting with lots of details. I felt like being there with all of them. She also managed to include plenty of emotions and feelings, which made me feel really close to Sydney.

It’s a book full of love, passion, trust, family and so much more. Every characters got part of his/her story shared as well and the ending is absolutely amazing.

Jenny Hale’s writing is full of depth, very detailed, fresh and full of wonderful moments.

WOW!

The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale is the 2nd book in the Firefly Beach series, and my first book by this author. Once I started this book I could not stop. It was a quick read that kept me rooting for the two main characters, Sydney and Nate, first loves finding each other again. I look forward to the next book in the series, and going back to read the first, Summer at Firefly Beach. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a sweet romance, you will not be disappointed.

Very similarly to the first book in this series, I think it's a perfectly fine beach romance you could pick up at your local grocery store while on vacation and enjoy. But while the first book had some emotional moments, this one just felt really unbelievable to me. It's definitely got the second chance at love trope so if you like those stories this may appeal to you but it was way too conveniently tied up and wrapped in a bow. Again, that will definitely appeal to some readers a lot (especially in difficult times like now when you just want an escape read) but for this ultimate realist, it was a bit hard to swallow.

As I turn the last page of my Kindle, I just sit and smile.  I don't want to lose the moment.  What moment, you may ask?  Well, you know that moment of happiness you get when you just finished eating your favorite meal, or meeting that best friend for coffee?  That moment where everything in this world seems perfect?  That is how I felt after reading The House on Firefly Beach.

This is the sequel to Summer at Firefly Beach, but can be read as a stand alone.  However, I highly suggest reading Summer first because it will set a backstory to House and is also just as feel-good.  Why not double the pleasure, so to speak?

I knew going in I was going to love this book.  And that's because I've loved every single one of Jenny Hale's books....yes, every. single. one.  There's something to be said about her writing as two of her Christmas books have been made into Hallmark movies.  After reading The House on Firefly Beach, I wish Hallmark would come out with a summer series of movies.  This one would be perfect!!

In The House on Firefly Beach the story is about Sydney, the sister to Hallie who was the center of Summer at Firefly Beach.  Sydney and her son, Robby, live on Firefly Beach with her mom, sister, and Uncle Hank.  She recently left her corporate job as a paralegal to help take care of the home where her Uncle Hank lives after her Aunt Clara passes.  She's in the stage in her life where she doesn't know how she got to where she is now, and definitely doesn't know where she's going.  Her career is just starting up again, as a writer, but has no love love to speak of.  Until Nate returns........

I'm not giving away any more of the plot.  You just have to trust that this book is worth reading, especially during these trying times in the world.  It is absolutely the perfect book to read and get lost in.

Thank you so much to Bookouture for a copy, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale

On Firefly Beach lies a cottage of dreams, Starlight Cottage. It is here, where Sydney Flynn has spent her summers and now lives with her son and other family members. The cottage holds many memories and love of her Aunt Clara. This is the second book in the Firefly Beach series. I read the first book last summer and found it a good read, so I knew I would like this book as well.

Sydney and her son are starting over again, she is looking for ways to move forward after her sister’s wedding. Meanwhile, Nate Henderson, the man she loved for four years returned to the beach and has been determined to speak with her. Sydney is determined not to let him break her heart again. She finds him everywhere and each time he is constantly pushing at her. There are other forces at play here also, someone is trying to buy up all the land to increase the tourist draw. Her friends are trying to help her, but Sydney doesn’t necessarily understand how the pieces fall together and Nate seems to struggle to share the information he needs to.

I enjoy Jenny Hale’s books. There are some great summer reads, with the beach, sun and sand. I find that sometimes the main characters get too ‘angsty’ in their heads with their over thinking, but I so want to find out what happens that I keep reading. The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale was a good read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Perfect summer romance.

This book was so incredibly sweet like the first one in the series. A cute summer romance story about Sydney and Nate who rekindle their college romance. In the 10+ years of being apart they never stopped loving one another. I thought it was cute that Nate wrote into the column to seek Sydney’s thoughts.

I was starting to get really irritated that Sydney wouldn’t give Nate the time of day to talk to her. Would it have been that terrible to give him 10-15 minutes of your time and that whole debacle would have been avoided. Nate rubbed me the wrong way the way he kind of used Robby to get to Sydney, well that’s what it seems like it is not implied in the book.

Can we get these books made into Hallmark/Lifetime movies? I love Hallmark and Lifetime movies and this reminds me of those. While this is the second book for the Firefly Beach series I can say they can be read separately as stand alones and you wouldn’t miss anything if you read this one without reading the first one.

After reading the first in the series, I thought this one would be more my type. I much prefer Second Chance over Friends-to-More. I did, but only by a little, and I think that's because of the change in trope.
Sydney, just like her sister, does not know how to communicate. It is frustrating to me that there is an endless amount of conversations that all end the same: without conclusion. Maybe I'm a nosy person? I personally struggle with cyclical conversations and don't like to repeat myself. When Nathan tells Sydney repeatedly that he needs to talk to her and it's important, she ignores him. Kudos to the patient men out there willing to stand by for years waiting for the girl to open her ears and listen.
This all to say that I need more drama through circumstances rather than a delayed tête-à-tête. I'm definitely in the minority though as other reviews will indicate. I say give it a try, especially if you love easy, breezy beach themed romances.

this book was literally the cutest and had the best vibes!! i loved reading about the beach scenery and the small town. i usually don’t like when the main character has a child, but the little boy in here was adorable!! this book really engaged me right from the first page. sydney and nate were so in love with each other and i was curious as to why the broke up in the beginning. i loved the little flashbacks we see from when sydney and nate were in college. they are definitely soulmates. i really feel like this story was so beautifully written and this book isn’t talked about enough. i really think a lot of people would enjoy this book during the summer. the love i felt between sydney and nate was so intimate and i almost feel like they are real people. i never read a book where i felt like these characters feel like real people and not just in a story. overall, i recommend this book to anyone!!

This book is interconnected to Summer on Firefly Beach (which released in paperback this week from @readforeverpub) and I always love to continue the story of previous characters!

Sydney and Nate were madly in love during college, both writers with big plans for their future together. One day Nate drives away leaving Sydney broken hearted. Years later, when they see each other at Sydney’s sisters wedding.... Nate has a lot to say to Sydney but will she trust him enough to listen?

My gal Jenny Hale does it again with the perfect light summery read. I loved jumping back into this family and Firefly Beach for this book! She does such a great job really transporting you to this location- I’m ready to pack my bags for vacation! I identified with Sydney as a single mom and wanted her to find her happiness. This is a sweet, clean romance with a guaranteed HEA. The perfect escape if that’s what you need.

Thank you @netgalley and @ for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One major theme: second chances

Synopsis: Sydney moved back to firefly beach full time and she is currently at her sister’s wedding. When she sees her old boyfriend Nate they haven’t been in connect for years… Sydney has since tried to move on which included her getting married and divorced and not to mention her little son. Has she really tried to move on when Nate is trying to charm his why back into her life and into her family’s life. Not to mention that Nate is now a international superstar!

Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book, it gave all of the summer feels which I loved. The relationships are well thought out and developed in this book. This book is the perfect beach read and the perfect summer read!!

This would make a perfect Hallmark Summer Movie!
Absolutely filled with sunshine and heartwarming moments, I was entranced completely by this beautiful book.
I adored the first book from the series ( although this could easily be read as a stand-alone) and I soon lost myself on Firefly Beach once more.
Sydney is a very likeable character, her warmth and dignity shines through. I was intrigued to find out why Nate chose to leave her when they were young, it certainly made a very interesting plot.
This is a brilliant book to take for a beach read and I enjoyed reading every single page. ❤️
