Rate this book
Have you ever felt like there was something inside of you pushing your actions? A dormant beast, so to speak. I know it sounds crazy.

But, that’s the best way I could describe how I’ve felt for a long time. I thought it was normal, some animal part of the human brain that lingered from evolution. But this is the story of how I learned I wasn’t exactly human, and there was a world underneath our own where all the things that go bump in the night live. And that my beast was very real indeed.

Of course, my first steps into this new unknown world are full of problems. I didn’t know the rules, landing me on the wrong side of a werewolf pack and in a duel to the death with a smug elf.

But, at least, I have a few new friends in the form of a dark elf vampiress and a kitsune assassin as I try to figure out just what I am and, more importantly, learn to control it.

Born and raised in the agricultural midwest, I moved every year after school even as far as Shanghai before settling down with my wife in Chicago.

I have always enjoyed Wuxia stories and became thrilled when I discovered harem stories spreading to western books. I've written down my day dreams for years as an idle hobby. Inspired by the harem genre I'm finally fleshing them out into full blown novels.

I'm excited to share my stories with you as I turn them into novels and series.

Good in a strange way
Not LitRPG. Urban fantasy. magic & shifters, slow burn. No sex before the 80% mark, But is shaping up to be harem in future books.
Right off the bat this book seems kinda' Meh. So many of the elements here seem derivative like this book were a smoothie of every other urban fantasy / harem book out there with some TV shows thrown in for spice. When the MC discovers his meta-human powers there is a scene right out of Spider-Man (2002) Where Tobey Maguire flexes in the mirror, I was groaning.
And then a strange thing happened, This book started to win me over with out my noticing it. I still had a low opinion of this book when I realized I was enjoying it. I still can't say if it got better or if I just got over it's sameness with a hundred other books just like it, but well... Before I knew it I was kinda hooked.
The MC is a decent guy, the Supporting characters (mostly) avoid being cliches, and the dialog is impressively fresh and true to life. The romance is sweet and believable, The action is a blend of Action movie fun and not too over the top. All the parts of this book balance each other well.
So, I confess. I'm a fan of this book and I look forward to reading the next one. That doesn't change that it's built almost entirely of of spare parts, but so is a lot of other stuff I like so let me say, Even if this is a kludge, the engine under the hood can rev real good.

can’t wait for the next one

This was an excellent start to a wonderful series. The mc doesn’t have angst and while he seems real we dont get any alpha chad problems with him. A 21st century dude coming to terms with himself and a new world and a hot foxy girl. Read it it’s great!!!!

Good new dragon series

I like this author and certainly enjoyed this new series starter. Though ultimately this will become a Harem series this particular book only ends up with 1 girl with Zach. The Romance is slow but Fun and meaningful. Slightly more realistic than other harem series. The para world is well built and obviously much bigger than one books worth. My only complaint is the magic is not well explained it just is. I would assume a dragon will have a lot of magic but so far the system or mechanisms for magic are nebulous at best. Hopefully future books can Pin that issue down a bit. Looking forward to the next book.

This is peak literature. It's inspiring that a 13 year old (presumably) can become such a highly rated author.

Tugs on Common Inner Dialogues
Book plays well and repeatedly to the common inner dialogue and self-perception that many have that they are special and meant for something more, and have conflicting desires and motivations that aren't societal norm, but want to come out. For Zach, this is his "beast within", which of course quickly is discovered to be a literal beast as he has some sort of paranormal shifting ability.

The slow reveal and self discovery required to learn what kind of shifter he is and how to invoke his alternative forms is well written and develops as a nice pace. His power's don't come all at once or overnight, and he earns things as they progress.

Nice foreshadowing with Zach's gold flakes from a childhood memory that are his starter hoard.

Zach's roomate and friend Frankie provides a good foil, as a player and women chaser in comparison to Zach's more traditional and slow paced relationships. But that is all going to change soon enough.

Zach gets a chance to make a good impression being chivalrous and helpful to a women who eventually he discover's is Scarlett.

Later he ends up on a date of sorts with Jadelyn, that pulls him into conflict with Jadelyn's current politically motivated fiancee, which results in physical conflict where Zach manages to defeat a werewolf alpha, and it becomes clear soon enough that Zach isn't normal. In return Jadelyn discover's Zach's paranormalites, and takes him to get a mentor, who turns out to be a vampire, Morgana. Morgana own's a bar, turns out to be legendary in her own right, and has a very unique background as the only known Elven vampire. And the bar is way beyond a normal bar, with extra dimensional spaces and lower levels specifically to serve paranormal clientele.

Morgana tries to help Zach discover himself. The main way to trigger a spontaneous morphing to his true shape is through violence, pain and physical damage. She puts him through a lot but they aren't able to figure it out. She does manage to provoke a fire breathing response, which narrows the possibilities one of which is of course dragon. Zach agrees to work for/with Morgana on special assignments which will also give him broad exposure and training. One one of their first missions they get pulled into a major drug operation where werewolves are enslaving vampires to create a drug based on the narcotic effects of vampire saliva.

Updating the council about the drug bust. More training montages.

Morgana's stable of fancy cars, and her crazy driving.

Morgana and Zach rescue Jadelyn and Kelly from the drug dealers with a big fight, where Zach continues to stretch his abilities and develop`. Jade and Kelly we're kidnapped them as children of council members in hopes of getting leverage over the council.

Things develop between Zach and Scarlett, eventually to a double date where unbeknownst to Zach Jadelyn and her Chad are the other couple.

Dealing with Kelly's father's pack, bad drug side effects on werewolves. Turns out Chad is behind everything / alpha leader of evil pack. Zach eliminates Chad but reveals more of his nature.

Whole books wort of banter, flirting, etc., finally culminates for Chad and Scarlett. Some fun details on her nature as a Kitsune.

very good start

A number of similarities between a number of other series made me a little nervous that this would just be more of the same, but I am happy to say that I was wrong.
The MC is a much better person, and him and the rest of the characters are much deeper. I really liked that the romance was a slow build, and not a 5 min meet and start f’ing.
I look forward to reading more.

Dragon's Justice

Great tale of coming of age in a paranormal world. Yes, Zach is a dragon and breathes fire sometimes! But he he a serious crush on another ten fatale with red hair! Plus he has a wealthy patron vampire who guided him through many of life's stumbling blocks. A fun read.

Super disappointed

Really loved one of authors other series but this one was not as well written and felt contrived and stereotypical.

As Hiro Blazeheart, a 35-year-old individual with a unique blend of human and wolf-like traits, deeply immersed in gaming and life in the fantastical ice world of HowlStrom, I recently had the pleasure of experiencing Bruce Sentar's audiobook "Dragon's Justice." This review aims to capture the essence of the audiobook, comparing it with my adventures and experiences in HowlStrom, and evaluating its impact from my unique perspective.

In-Depth Analysis:

"Dragon's Justice" is a captivating tale that resonates with me on multiple levels. The protagonist's journey of self-discovery, where he learns about his non-human side and embarks on an adventure in a world filled with paranormal beings, mirrors my own experiences in HowlStrom. The way the protagonist navigates through unfamiliar territories, learning rules and forming alliances, is reminiscent of my own path under the guidance of Kiba Snowpaw, the Alpha Ice Wolf of our clan.

Character Development and Emotional Resonance:

The characters in "Dragon's Justice" are meticulously crafted, with each having distinct personalities and backgrounds. This depth of character development is crucial in an audiobook, as it allows for an immersive experience, much like the diverse personalities I encounter in HowlStrom. The protagonist's internal conflicts, his struggles with newfound powers, and his interactions with other characters, particularly the dark elf vampiress and the kitsune assassin, are profoundly engaging.

Moreover, the emotional depth in the story, with its themes of identity, power, and belonging, strongly echoes my own experiences. As someone who balances the duality of human and wolf traits, the protagonist's journey of embracing his true nature and learning to control it is something I deeply relate to.

Narration Quality:

The narration of the audiobook by Jessica Threet and Jack Douglas adds a rich layer to the storytelling. Their ability to bring characters to life with distinct voices and personalities enhances the overall experience. This is particularly important for me, as the immersive nature of their narration allows me to draw parallels with my own life in HowlStrom.

Comparison with Gaming and HowlStrom Adventures:

The adventures and challenges faced by the protagonist in "Dragon's Justice" can be likened to a complex and immersive game, similar to the ones I engage with in my gaming life. The strategic thinking, the exploration of new worlds, and the interactions with various beings are elements that I find both in the audiobook and in my gaming experiences.

Critique and Evaluation:

While "Dragon's Justice" excels in character development and world-building, it does follow some familiar tropes of urban fantasy and harem genres. However, Sentar skillfully integrates these with unique elements, creating a narrative that, while familiar, is also fresh and engaging. The magic system, though not extensively explained, adds an element of mystery and potential for further exploration in subsequent books.

"Dragon's Justice" is not just an audiobook; it's a reflection of a journey similar to mine. As Hiro Blazeheart, I see my own story of duality, adventure, and discovery echoed in this engaging tale. It's a compelling blend of fantasy, action, and emotional depth, narrated beautifully, making it a must-listen for anyone who enjoys a deep, character-driven story set in a rich, fantastical world.

LOVE this series

I’ve been a fan of Bruce’s work for a while, and think he’s a fantastic author. I generally enjoy the harem books, but a common issue with most of them is that it generally comes across as unbelievable how quickly characters just accept the harem or women push for it without issues. It’s never that believable and is a bit jarring when reading. Also, the frequent tumbles in the sheets tend to get old, and the characters tend to stop developing as the story progresses and new characters are inserted.

That was NOT an issue for this series, to my joy and surprise. I’ve read up to book 6 of this series, and the story was fantastic and seemed completely natural. My favorite part was that the character development seemed pretty consistent across the series, and when it seemed like an older character was starting to get ignored, Bruce would add something about that character to keep that character’s development going.

I think one thing that made this series work as well as it did was the paranormal aspect where the characters are mostly not human and have animal instincts that just make harems make more sense and really helped individualize each character in a unique and special way- preventing the characters from becoming bland.

The story here was phenomenal and I look forward to the next installment. My inner fantasy nerd was loving this series and all the paranormal species in it. I’d honestly like to see the harem not growing anymore (past book 6) as it is getting difficult to keep up with all the characters and will be impossible to maintain character development for everyone. That said I would highly recommend this series for any fantasy/harem genre lovers as it’s an incredible read, and this is my new favorite of Bruce’s work.

You’re a Dragon Harry. The problem with writing a nonhuman character is that they don’t have the same motivations and desires as humans. Our protagonist is a dragon but doesn’t know it. Mr. Pendragon also doesn’t act draconic in the least. He talks about the beast inside, but if this were the case, he wouldn’t act like it was so alien. I would expect someone nonhuman to work more that way than a human.

Here is a snack cake book. It’s not filling, tastes good, and you forget it in an hour. Suppose you are looking for a light simple, fair dig right in. The Author even talks about trying to write a book a month, so at least he is aware of it.

Of all the characters in this story, only his mentor, the dark elf vampire, stood out to me. Her speech, more than anything else, set her apart. This series will be working toward the HaremLit genre. So expect more humans plus girls to throw themselves at our main character. Mr. Pendragon bumbles along and beats foes with more knowledge and training than he has as a college student who’s lived a peaceful human life until this book.

I recommend this series if you have Kindle Unlimited and need a snack between more substantial books. As for the Audiobook version, you could wait for it to be on sale. While the narrators do a fantastic job and add a nice frosting to this snack cake, it is still a snack cake.

Dragon Justice is a great first introduction to a new series by Bruce Sentar. I have loved his other books and this is not different.
What would your life be like if those noises in the dark are really fantasy creatures is disguise? This series starts with a great nod to the hidden paranormal world that is all around but our hero Zach, just doesn’t know it.
I really enjoyed the play of this inner beast, as he calls it, and its constant desire to move Zach forward. Even if he isn’t’ ready for it. Morgana is a great character and one that I really enjoyed ready about. She keeps her history hidden but you know that she is a total bad ass.
The interaction between her and Zach makes for great connection and provides a fun way to see Zach learn what this new world means and start to grow his abilities.
The action is fun and the set up for a larger problem, beyond the issues that Chad creates, makes for a series that should build on itself without causing any issues. Zach slowly discovering what he is capable of and what is inner beast truly is and can become will but fun to watch too.
Great way to start a series and I can not wait to get into the next one.

Author gets side-tracked into a sherlock-Holmes-kinda-who's-behind-the-vampire-drug-dealin'-to-the-lycans which has little or no relation to the main character, Zach, a medical student that finds out that he is a paranormal (mutant-shapeshifter-changeling-beast-folk) Dragon (which are incredibly rare. Author sets out hints (last name Pendragon) and main character remembers mining gold with his biological dad as a kid.
Author has already insinuated that this will be a harem series several times. First Volume has 400+ pages with 30 chapters (about 13 pages a chapter which is starting middle ground for character development, story and plot development) Although author has written a scavenger hunt/who-done-it race to find the culprits and cause behind the illegal and dangerous vampire-saliva-drug-use-by-the-lycan-packs...
On the cover is Scarlett, Zach's first sweethart, she is a Fox-mutant-changeling-paranormal and they get along really well.

Having read Saving Supers, I was interested in the author's backlog of books and picked this up. Yes, it follows basically the same formula as in the newer books but that didn't make it any less enjoyable.

Zach Pendragon (yep, that's his name) is the MC. He unwittingly falls into the world of the paranormal, where elves, trolls, kitsune's, sirens, and yes, even dragons are a thing. Except Zach can't get his dragon to come out because he's repressed it for so long.

He meets a drow vampire lady and together they start working on jobs together, meeting other oddities along the way.

For those who haven't already guessed, this is haremlit, although it's light touch. Zach is a decent MC. He can laugh at himself, and he doesn't take himself too seriously. He knows it when he makes mistakes and so on.

The first book focuses on werewolves when they become a problem due to a new drug.

And that's that. A fun book that doesn't overstay it's welcome. 5/5*

hmmm

Okay, so far out of three series I’ve read by Sentar Zach is by far the worse MC for me. I thought Dar’s first book upset me… BUT as I struggled through that I fell in love with Dar and that series truly became so good. So I’m holding out and putting my faith out there yet again. Zach is simply put weak… his will is weak, his thought process is weak and he’s just… weak. I myself work EMS and after doing so many years of advanced life support I guess I just have a certain outlook on life I guess 😂. But Zach is just…. Man, I don’t know where to start. But I’m assuming that he’ll get better and mature. I’m hoping he connects with his “beast” and make better strives because he’s not even a quarter shifter right now. That’s nuts… but I guess once he does get the hang of things he’ll be mega OP I’m sure. It’s just how his personality is that has me hitting my head against the wall. I am excited for the next book though, so onward lads!

This is my first Bruce sentar Book and I absolutely loved it it wasn't one of those right to the gratuitous sex scene books it was a slow built up which I enjoyed with every chapter I'm like ooh we when's it going to happen world building I sort of got I'm just a small town shifter vibes but clearly this book came out before that book came out so I'm not saying it was Plagiarized the voice acting was superb I must say Jessica threet is a A-grade voice actor I will honestly pick a book simply for the fact she is voice acting in it. it seems to me she picks her work very well and she puts everything into her work And and as for Jack Douglass he gets the job done perfectly fine this is my first book of his work and I'm very pleasantly surprised but all in all was a great book as soon as I finished book one within 5 minutes I bought book 2 and I'm probably going to be buying book 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 you hooked me Bruce senter

The reason you read this is for the relationship building. The character interactions feel natural and believable. While this is a harem series, this first book isn't--it's about the main character romancing one girl, and the others become his friend and ally, things are subtly set up for the future. There's no rush. That is leagues above other books in this genre that throw the girls at the main character. That's why this book works, the strength of its likable characters and the gathering ties.

Because the urban fantasy element is just okay. The writing itself, especially the main character, feels a little dorky but endearing. This is helped by Jack Douglas's narrative voice as Jack. Both narrators do a great job. However Jessica Threet unintentionally made me laugh every time her Swedish vampire said "Wampire".

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to when I figured out it was about shifters. Maybe it's because the urban fantasy is different from most of the straight-up fantasy I've been reading. Maybe it's because all the women in the book aren't just dropping their panties and spreading their legs just because he's the MC.

I can tell the series is heading in the harem direction, but it isn't there yet as of the end of this first book. The fight scenes are still interesting despite the MC being OP for someone who's just discovering his powers. But he's human enough to still make plenty of mistakes without making me feel like the author had to make him brain-dead "for plot". Said differently, the mistakes feel organic/natural for the character. I'll definitely be reading the further books in this series.

This book seems to be a near copy of "The Valens Legacy" by Jan Stryvant. Just swap out lion for dragon and the story is nearly identical. Still it was an okay reading except for the weird way the author tries to blend a harem tale with "modern man's" beliefs. Take the strange new modern man beliefs of female superiority to males and try to mix with a classic harem tale and you have kinda a conflicting mess. I got tired of hearing "first female alpha" and "you don't have to have a d*ck to be an alpha" over and over.
Pick a lane bud. Mashing feminism with a classic harem story just makes a mess

A good start

So far I have enjoyed all the books by Bruce that I have read so far (about 14). This has a fairly standard synopsis of a guy finding out they are not what they thought and are swept into a paranormal world that normal humans have no idea exists. The MC is likeable and so are most of the other characters introduced. As Bruce like harem stories, it becomes a game of which ladies will end up in a relationship with the MC before the series ends. This book does contain a sex scene that is not fade to black, I’m sure these scenes will increase if/when more ladies join the harem if you like to read them.

This book (and series) is one of my favorite harem series by far, and it’s well paced. Slow initially with only Scarlet, then someone else, but it speeds up a bit after that. Still though, can’t fault the world building - it’s well spaced and lore is a nice thing to help understand the history behind much of the paranormal world.

I must give compliments to Bruce Sentar for creating much more realistic characters and relationships (compared to his other series) that feel natural.

As always, the MC is a powerful person with unknown and (usually always) boundless power. Can’t fault him though. It works, so why change it?

Some of the spicy scenes are quite interesting and the abilities of all the paranormal are quite cool, although I never understood why Zach fell for Morgana. Idk maybe it’s not my thing.

Anyway I have eaten these books up and they may potentially be a guilty pleasure at this point. I blame Forth Wing for getting me into this whole fiasco.

Love ya, Bruce Sentar. Keep up the good work!

4.5 stars. I went into too this thinking it would be like all the other trash in the genre, where it's all about sex and they just call it Fantasy. I was therefore pleasantly surprised by this book. It was nothing at all like the rest of those trash authors like say, DB King, Dante King, Eric Vall, Logan jacobs, and so on. They destroy the genre IMHO, with the trash they keep putting out. I am so happy to have found another author that knows how to create a great series that is plot-driven and enhanced by sex and romance. Rather than having no plot and just sex.

Excellent Read

Zack seems to be a normal college student, but when he is attacked by a star football player for dancing with his girlfriend, strange new powers manifest. He struggles with maintaining his identity, coming to terms with what he is turning into, and the new distraction of love. Becoming an apprentice of a powerful being seems the best introduction to the paranormal world. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

Wolves, and Sirens and Dragons, oh My!

The first time I stumbled across this author was with his Dao Divinity series. I actually liked the premise and have to say, I'm impressed with his story telling enough to rate him. This story has enough of a fresh perspective upon many themes played out in the past that I gave him a high rating for his creative view on tropes that could have easily led into mediocrity. Kudos Mr Sentar, you have converted a new fan.

Dragon justice number 1 is funny and action packed!!!

Bruce Sentar is an awesome writer with some really original stories!! This story had all kinds of creatures like werewolves, sirens and of course dragons. The lead character is Zach who is funny, snarky and totally bad ass and hot too. I would recommend this series and his Mana beast series to all fantasy loving people who also want some romance to go along with original fantasy!!

Great read, will continue reading the series as it releases. Characters are compelling and the story is enjoyable. The writing style on occasion can feel like a high schooler is writing the book, but luckily those occasions are rare. The author definitely doesn't know much much about carrying firearms, so I'd recommend he do some research on topics he's not totally aware of for his future novels. Keep up the good work Bruce.

Exciting new urban fantasy story

This is a good new series in urban fantasy. The characters are well written and I like the way the different personalities and the world building is going along. The story is mostly concentrated on the story of course and the romance is definitely a backseat to the main story. So far I'm enjoying the story and would love to read what happens next and our main character has a lovely first girlfriend we'll see what the future holds for them.

Excellent story

Interesting, action-oriented storyline with an MC that is reasonably intelligent, not prone to poor decisions (but not infallible). The praranormal aspect is presented in a clean, simple approach, ie in bite-sized historical explanations given to our hero. Most of the characteristics of paras are similar/very close to the 'standard' versions but presented in a great way: through action sequences where possible. Very entertaining novel. On to number 2!
