Putting loss and grief behind them, Rudeus and his two wives are ready to settle into polygamous bliss—until an old flame arrives, stirring up old memories. Will the Greyrat family ever achieve the domesticity they hope for? Or are they doomed to be dogged by drama all their days?
Paul's death was unexpected, I have read the fan translation, so there isn't a lot I can say about the writing but, I like Paul as a character. His quirks, despite his womanizing attitude, his dedication towards his family was unwavering. It was sad to see him go.
Better than the previous volumes. Though paul died 😞 r.i.p ... I liked that plot twist because that plot twist brought rudeus and roxy together (灬º‿º灬)♡. And SHE BECAME HIS SECOND WIFE!!!! ( My man living every other man's dream ). The labrynths were COOL. I liked them alot, it was fun reading... Zenith's condition was a shock but it couldn't be helped 😓... I'm really looking forward to the other volumes because we just finished the "missing family arc" which was a considerably big arc. That's why I'm so EXCITED!!!!! In the end this was a good volume. So I accidentally thought I was reading the 14 vol. But nah it was just the 13. It included all happy family time... And slice of life stuff.mmm .... BUT NO ACTION! So I removed one ⭐.

After all the emotion and intensity of the las book a little bit of quiet is appreciated. This is more of a transition book for what is to come I’m sure. We get to see everyone settling after the shocking events from Begaritt and we come back to a normality with Rudeus looking after his daughter and developing good relations with his sisters and the whole household. There’s a quite a few tender moments with several characters and all in all is a nice feel-good book.
You ever want to like something but you just can't bring yourself to? Man this was rough. I think I might just stick with the anime cause whew I did not like a singular thing about this. Rudy was just so annoying and ugh. This was just not for me man.
Back home, Rudeus and his family settle back into a more normal life at the university and with each other including the new additions of Roxy and Zenith. For me it was an enjoyable slice-of-life read, but I tend to like such stories. Rudues' thoughts at times were a bit cringe. Not that he was thinking anything particularly bad (mostly anyway), but they just felt odd and awkward within the story. Still, an enjoyable addition to the series. Not the best, not the worst.
Biggest upturn this book, his parents break down, and his love life expands... without any warning. BAM he gets himself a new wife, I'm not too worried for Eris, I'm just worried about the beast girls. They made it sound like he could only get his hands on one of them and the other one goes back to the village to become a leader, it would be terrible to separate the girls.
Pretty chill volume. Still hard to stomach the polygamy nonsense, but it is what it is. Am almost up to date and the next volume sounds very interesting, so I'll be saying farewell for sometime to Mushoten. The anime production truly did wonders for this series. The light novel series is not even a quarter of what the anime portrayed.

Yeah. Nothing too much happens aside from character progression, as the books come out later you can kinds skip this one. Other than it not having a huge toll on the story it's a great read regardless.
I was waiting for the chill cooldown period and I got it. too bad it was a bit shit. MC was quite annoying for big part of the book. otherwise okay and dull. Felt like a lot of good dialogue opportunities were wasted.
I’ve just finished Volume 13 of *Mushoku Tensei*, and I have to say, I’m really glad this novel exists in its current form. I’m not sure if these chapters were originally part of the WN because they feel more like segments that provide additional context to the existing plot, but that’s exactly why I enjoyed them so much. A big part of that is my love for the university setting. With Linia and Pursena leaving and Ariel soon to follow, it feels like this point of the story is slowly coming to an end, so I’m grateful we got an entire additional book focused on this period. I also appreciated the return to more frequent time-skips, something I felt was missing in the last few volumes. I always liked how, during the journey from Volumes 3-6, months could pass in a single time-lapse. In contrast, Volumes 8-12 felt more compressed (though for understandable reasons). Volume 13 allowed us to see the characters grow over a more extended period, mirroring the structure of Volume 1—even the cover reflects this, with Rudeus now standing at the center of his family instead of Paul.
One of my favorite aspects was seeing Sara and Counter Arrow make a reappearance, allowing us to catch up with them so they didn’t just remain a footnote in the story. Their reintroduction was surprisingly seamless, even though there wasn’t a pressing need to hire Suzanne since Lilia and Aisha are always home. This was cleverly handled by noting that she was still nursing, making her indispensable during Sylphie’s duties. The new information we later received added a very human, authentic twist to the story: Suzanne is no longer an adventurer but has settled down and started a family—just like Rudeus. This narrative choice not only highlights Rudeus’ growth but also shows that the world around him is evolving too, not stuck in a static state.
The encounter between Rudeus and Sara herself was deeply moving because of how fundamentally human it was. From the initial awkwardness and silent avoidance of the topic, to their mutual apologies and eventual ease, like old friends reconnecting, the whole interaction felt very real. What made this even better (and Rifujin doesn’t do this often) was the dynamic description of the characters’ body language, especially Sara’s, and their changing facial expressions. This allowed us to intuitively understand how their emotions evolved throughout the conversation. At the same time, Rudeus undergoes his own character arc during this exchange, making Sara and the entire episode crucial for his overall development. He finally grasps why he truly loves Sylphie and Roxy—not just out of physical attraction, but because they were there for him at critical moments when he needed emotional support. This realization, in turn, gives him the strength and insight to understand that Eris might hold a similar significance in his life and pushes him to be honest with Sylphie about his feelings. The detailed depiction of Rudeus’ family life with Roxy and Sylphie further emphasizes that Roxy isn’t just his second wife—she’s an integral part of the family, developing a closer bond with Sylphie, who accepts Roxy because she understands the vital role Roxy plays in Rudeus’ life.
The Sara episode, therefore, not only adds to this chapter but also deepens the broader narrative, helping to define the dynamics of the Greyrat family and their unity.
Even beyond the Sara chapter, the book excels in weaving narrative threads that connect the various episodic stories. Whether it’s the chapter focusing on Norn, showing how her hard work despite lacking natural talent attracts a group of admirers and sets up her entry into the student council, or Aisha’s love for plants being highlighted through her presentation of a Trent she’s grown to Rudeus, these connections enrich the story. There’s also Zenith’s gradual emotional recovery, culminating in her even smiling again by the end, or the thoughtful preparation of Aisha and Norn’s birthday gift by Rudeus, which also leads to Roxy being fully integrated into the family during a grand celebration. Or the culmination of Zanoba’s research, where he finally succeeds in crafting a prosthetic for Rudeus, and the marriage of Cliff and Elinalise, which had been long anticipated. Linia and Pursena’s story also reaches its climax as they part ways after a passionate duel, marking the end of their time at the university, signaling the approaching end of this storyline.
Particularly significant, howeverm is Nanahoshi’s storyline, which, while providing a climax and turning point, also introduces a new narrative arc through her connection with Perugius, leaving me eager to see how this will unfold.
Finally, we got another fantastic extra chapter, and this one focusing on Eris stood out to me the most among her chapters. We actually see how and why she’s making progress—not just through descriptions of her wild behavior but by showing how Ruijerd’s training and her thoughts about Rudeus help her manage her aggressive tendencies. The dynamic between Isolde, Nina, and Eris is also intriguing, likened to a triangle of elements—plant, fire, water—where they challenge each other and must learn to overcome their weaknesses. This chapter not only plausibly explains their development but also finally gives depth to the swordsmanship aspects of the story, which had been somewhat underdeveloped compared to the magic system.
Overall, this was a good book, and I can’t wait to dive into Volume 14.

Just to preface I have read volumes 1 through 12 before this of course but that was before I creater my Goodreads account.
Volume 13 does a great job at illustrating really family problems especially with Norn. There is some great development with her character going from a slight introvert who was slightly ashamed of her family situation, to becoming more open and inviting towards her ever expanding family. It was also great to see Rudeus comforting her and attempting to step in for Paul after last volumes incident. This of course shows him developing as a person and fits into the magic academy arc which has had ideas of personal development sprinkled about with almost the entire main cast.
However, I will admit this volume was overly sexual and during the begging to middle portions was just way too much. Sure we know Rudy's nature and how he is almost trying to make up for his, let's say, lack of activity in his previous life. But an entire chapter dedicated to getting Roxy and Sylphie to have a 3***?
So overall, this volume was lacking in substance but the small slice of life moments did bring a smile to my face. 2/5 but will keep reading as I do really enjoy this series.
The book was okay, I felt like a lot of what I read could be tied up into filler. As in you can totally skip this and move onto the next without any real issue. I liked that counter arrow was brought back into the picture a bit, and liked that Sara’s character was pulled back into the fray. However, the back of the book referenced this encounter as if it’ll be a big event, though the encounter only seemed to last 10-20 pages in total. This made it feel like a waste of a potentially big event that could show more character development than it actually did. I liked being able to see the twos growth and that they were able to reflect on things maturely. At the end of the day, its hard to say who did more wrong in that relationship, but it’s always nice to be able to see characters who can look past their own past. I would have liked for this to be a major talking point. Instead it felt like many of these chapters were rather empty of actual developments in the story.
I just finished reading Volume 13 of Mushoku Tensei**,** which takes place right after Season 2 Part 2. This volume doesn’t have any big battles, but it still includes a few smaller fights, like the one between Linia Dedoldia and Pursena Adoldia as they compete for the position of village chief.
Most of the story focuses on Rudeus’s life after marrying Roxy, and it’s full of heartwarming, genuinely adorable moments. It’s nice to see him finally living peacefully for a while, surrounded by people who make him happy. Even though the volume feels calm and domestic, it still sets up some interesting developments for the future, especially the part about meeting Perugius Dola, the legendary Armored Dragon King, through the reincarnated girl, Nanahoshi.
In the extra chapter, we also get a glimpse of Eris using the Sword God Technique , which was amazing to read. Overall, Volume 13 feels like a gentle break in the story—a warm and wholesome chapter that gives both Rudeus and the readers a chance to breathe after Paul’s death and all the trauma that followed.
+++goddammit goodreads! I wrote an entire review only for it to be gone because I tapped wrongly on the screen by a Smidge! Instead of posting it went back and whoops there goes the past half hour! Shame on you goodreads Shame+++
Edit I rewrote my points and gripes I had for this book in the next book’s review But essentially to summarise, all the gripes I had in this book were systematically knocked out of the park and then some in the next instalment
So think of this instalment as a launching pad to set you up for a roller coaster of events
Rudeus is settling in to domestic life as he works to ensure that his two wives get along without being annoyed with him. An old girlfriend comes to town. Will this cause the Greyrat family problems? The stage seems to be set for eventual contact with a certain redheaded swords woman from the past. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
This volume begins my venture through what's still unadapted in the anime. With some closure to the end of the displacement incident saga, this sure felt like an interlude between major plor points, I'm so excited for what's to come. Rudeus will never beat the allegations, though. I'm half expecting him to say "I get older, they stay the same age" while ogling first-year female students by his graduation.
Happily grown family. Hell, indeed, this might be the most fantasy-related portion of the light-novellas. Growing up, growing wiser, and now, a featured harem.
The point isn't the harem, though. The storytelling is bucolic and wholesome and somehow regenerating.
No, nobody grew back any limbs and the dead didn't return to life, but life, itself, goes on.
This one was quite boring. Nothing really happened and I don’t really like the dynamic rudeus has with his 2 wifes xd at this point I know half of the story will be these horny chapters but I wish the plot continued with it. I want more action. I’ll probably read a few more volumes and see if I’ll continue the series.
I really enjoyed reading. Not much story wise happens in this one, a nice respite from the excitement in the last installment. Each character grows nicely, Rudy especially matures, a complete 180 from his younger self. He lets himself enjoy the things in life he has earned, without taking them for granted.

This opus is more of an Slice of Life where Rudeus try to improve his relationship with his family. There writer is also building up a few family member slowly like the previous characters introduced.
Here we are 13 volumes into the serious. The character development and timelines are perfectly paced. You feel like you are growing along with the main character and that the arcs take a fated, but logical progression. I very much love this series
Enjoying the series and loved everyone getting stronger in their own right. Happy to see both sylph and rosy getting along. Norn and Aisha been more mature about their behavior.
This volume is just more character development leading into the next arc, it could've probably just been cut down and included in the next volume instead of what seemed like a money grab
