I also write about film and TV for publications including Time Out, the BFI and The Guardian, and I sing in a folk-rock band called The No Sorrows.
I was born in Kendal and raised in North Yorkshire, though I now live in London. I realise that I almost have the same name as Loki, but rest assured I'm not him: I'm slightly rounder and a lot less famous. However, I have managed to make him admit that it's his family who spell their name wrong, not mine.

FINALLY!! Sadly this series seems to be wrapped up but wow, StormTide…what a way to finish.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a proof and the long-awaited final chapter of this brilliant trilogy doesn't disappoint. It’s an enthralling adventure on a global scale which fans of FloodWorld and DustRoad will dive straight into. You have a wait for this to be available so you *might* want to go back and read the first two again – I’m about to read the whole trilogy straight through again, to get the whole adventure in one sitting. Kara, Joe, and other much-loved characters are back and there were some cool new faces here too. Expect some mindblowing action scenes, with high stakes for central characters. The friendships between the young heroes are what really tie the story together and drive things forward, but the epic locations and global politics make this such a sophisticated endeavour. This is the kind of fiction young readers today deserve and will treasure.
