Ivy Franklin, town baker and grump, is no fan of all the changes that have come to Mystic Springs in the past year. Love. Babies. More and more and more Springers, returning home. Even her twin Eve is married and expecting. She’d think about leaving town… if she had anywhere else to go. She’s given up everything to make this small town her home, including her own chance at love.

When Grant Whitlock washes up on the shores of Mystic Springs with no memory of who he is or how he got there, Ivy’s sure the universe is playing a prank on her. He’s the sacrifice she made in order to stay safe and whole and, and make sure the man she loved could see his own dreams come true.

It isn’t long before Ivy wonders if giving Grant up five years earlier was the biggest mistake of her life. Is his reappearance a second chance for both of them… or is it nothing more than a piece of a dark, twisted plot to destroy the town?

Every decision Ivy makes in this book makes me angry! Ivy has taken away Grant’s choice about his life and priorities not just in the past when she sent him away despite his decision to stay.

And then getting to the part where she tries to convince him to cheat on her despite his explicit decision to try and be faithful to this unexplainable memory for no other reason than for her to not have regrets when she makes him leave again?! My girl, respect other people’s decisions please!

The story is framed so far to try and garner sympathy for Ivy having been ‘forced’ to send away someone she loves for their benefit, but she decides whats best for his life without any consent or consultation from him. And on top of that, each encounter with him that she pursues is strictly for her benefit without regard for any potential repercussions for him - especially egregious since he doesn’t have his memories to ever make a fully informed choice when they occur! Grant just leave!

While I generally love the drama and heartbreak inherent in the amnesia trope, I couldn’t get on board with the MC’s explanations of her actions at all at the start of their rekindling relationship to root for them to get together

a great series

I am playing catch up on this series, got the third book free and the story was so well written and engaged you in the story that I bought the rest of the series! Ivy’s Fall doesn’t let you down, watching Ivy and the town work together to solve the mystery and defeat the enemy was fantastic!

UPDATE: I frequently reread books/series that have made me smile in the past. IVY’S FALL is the 4th book in Winsted’s Mystic Springs Paranormal/Fantasy Romance series which I am rereading at this time. Winsted Jones has added an additional book 5 to the series since I last read it. I look forward to checking out the new book, LAST CALL AT THE DOGHOUSE, next.

ORIGINAL POST:
IVY’S FALL is bk#4 in Linda Winstead Jones’ Mystic Springs Contemporary Paranormal Romance series. IVY’S FALL is a Second Chances, Amnesia story that reads quickly and could be read as a standalone title but books #1 and #3 were my favorites.

MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5 Stars.
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

IVY’S FALL ~
Mystic Springs, AL is an unusual & secluded small town where the residents are mainly gifted people. Soon after anyone leaves the borders of the town, their special talents are lost and they become normal - lacking in gifts, unless they return. Most young adults leave to attend college and relocate elsewhere. Occasionally, someone will return to Mystic Springs because they miss their families or/and the use of their gifts.

Ivy Franklin/FMC, 29, is a Mystics Springs’ local and as the town’s baker, a creator of magical delectables. Grant Whitlock/MMC was a drifter from the outside who dropped into town 5yrs ago, loved Ivy well and fast until an offer to return to pro-baseball was dangled in his face. He took the offer, with Ivy’s blessing and left, never to be seen again until now. But Mystic Springs has been creeping toward a change lately and Grant’s sudden return triggers the beginning. Will the shift be good for the people and the town or will harm be the end result?

I enjoyed IVY’s FALL. It wasn’t my favorite book in the series (Bigfoot and the Librarian and Beauty and the Beastmaster were) but IVY’S FALL read quickly and was still fun. IVY’s FALL and the Mystic Springs series might be best enjoyed by readers of:
1) Light Paranormal Contemporary Romance (w HEAs)
2) Fantasy Romances (w HEAs)
3) Amnesia Romances
4) Second Chance Romances
5) Quick reading HEAs with a touch of Paranormal

READER CAUTIONS -
VIOLENCE - PG-13. “Shifter” justice.
PROFANITY - Yea. Strong language is used on occasion.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. A brief scene of intimacy occurs.
