Big Boys #4

Big Baker

Rate this book

Chef Ballard is world famous. His pastries make grown men weep.

And he’s been leaving them in my hotel staff locker.

I never meant to get the Head Baker’s attention. Not consciously, anyway. I’m a shy nobody, a hotel cleaner--the last thing I need is scrutiny.

Not with the murals I splash through the city at night.

But I couldn’t help it. Once I saw where he lived, I had to bring color to his life the way his pastries light up mine.

Now the baker is watching. He suspects me. And he doesn’t seem angry, in fact he seems... charmed.

Chef Ballard had better stop leaving me pastries. My heart can’t resist someone sweet.

Big Baker is a short and steamy age gap instalove story, for readers with a real sugar craving.

Though the first book in this series is my favorite, I'm still really enjoying this series! Quick hour long reads, but a nice palette cleanser of a novella!

I haven't read a full novel in so long, that's what it feels like lmao. So, I know Cassie Mint has me when I'm on a book slump. I decided to pick up this one last night and it was a fun read. Delicious baked goods, pining, hero obsessed trope - Cassie gave us everything we love!

Maid in Manhattan vibes with a cute ending and epilogue. A maid at a hotel is in love with the hotel baker. When she paints a mural on his townhome as tribute he sets out to discover who she is and make her his.

Sweet, low angst and steamy.

Huh, Cassie's book always gave me a good vibe of instalove. It was like a splash of erotica but with a good HEA romance plot. The story went when our h wanted to show her appreciation toward our local famous baker for giving the help some of his pastries. As a she was some sort of secret artist who splashed famous mural across town, she thought a mural near his house would be fitting. And he was indeed very impressed. So, he tried to find the "secret" artist and when he found her, sparks fly, pastries being baked, and secret rendezvous were made.

Virgin h, celibate H
No condoms
No drama/angst
Dual PoV, 1st person
No cheating, No OW/OM
Instalove with a plot
Good sexy scenes
Safe read, HEA, epilogue
Overall score: 4 instalove stars

**1.8/5 stars**

There was just nothing exciting about this story. It was honestly just an okay read. And I would be lying if I said I had a lot of things to say about it. The premise was cute but also a bit ridiculous. The characters didn't have much personality, nothing stood out about them or their love story.

The only thing that I really liked was the fact that Javier was trying to woo Zoe by baking her some pastries. Other than that, there wasn't much to the plot. Zoe was forgettable and uninteresting, and somehow, I just couldn't picture her with Javier.

“I bake for her because I want her. To make her happy, and to make her think of me.”-Javier

I'm bored so here's my boring review. Nothing to hype up about this novella, so I'm moving on. lol

Would I recommend this novella? Hm.. I think you can skip that one.

3.5 rounded up to 4.

This one just wasn’t for me. I didn’t particularly like the heroine, she was strangely naive. Like kind of a weirdo. The writing was also super flowery, it almost felt like it was written by a different person and it just made things drag. I hope the next one in the series is better.

Delightful! All the swoon!

A hero who is obsessed and woos his lady with pastry delights! A man after my own heart!

These two were the sweetest.

No deets on hero’s past, celibate. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to the hero. No others, no cheating or abuse. HEA with epilogue

Same formula. Rinse, repeat. When in the mood, doesn't get old. When you've gorged on 10 at a time of these, gets... kinda old.

This was my favorite of the bunch. This was great as a short - but I fell in so deep with Javier and Zoe that I wanted it to be a full length because I didn’t get enough and wanted more story! I would have read the hell out of this had it been a full length.

The couple: Javier and Zoe

Romance trope: workplace romance
Series: Big Boys
Length: 61 pages

Plot: Javier and Zoe work at the same hotel where Javier is the pastry chef and Zoe is a housekeeper. She has a bit of a crush on him, but also on his pastries, which are amazing. So he starts leaving pastries in her locker each day to get her attention. But Zoe has a secret talent of her own, one she wants to share with Javier. That's not what it sounds like, perverts.

Commentary: Zoe was a secret Banksy! I actually liked that - it was a cute addition to the story. And Javier leaving little pastries for her! They were both so generous with their talents and that characteristic alone helped them be perfect for one another. Cute story.

The mural on my townhouse is a tribute to me. To my work in the kitchen. It’s the only thing I’m sure of. Someone went to all that trouble—risked getting caught and used all that skill—to bring color to my life and send me a message. I can’t believe it.

Zoe was naughty and adorable, she had a great talented in painting, also was working at the same place with Javier, but in different department. Javier was an amazing Chef at the shop. She painted his house secretly because she really admired Javier’s baking skills. After Javier found the mural, he couldn’t help but loving and tried to find who was the artist.

I almost miss it. Am almost too busy staring at her elegant fingers, chapped raw from cleaning, as they close around a pain au chocolat.

A spot of duck-egg blue paint on the inside of her wrist.

Evidence, at last.

It’s her.

Zoe and Javier was acting like mouse and cat playing chasing game, Javier tried different ways to find the artist, which was super funny and exciting for me.

She drags me all the way to the dais, and then hops up on the raised platform, turning to face me with our faces suddenly closer.

“Thank you,” I murmur, stepping flush to her again. “Much better for my neck. You’re so small down there.”

Oh gosh, they both so so so adorable!! Zoe was tiny and small, compared with large and big Javier. It’s so cute when they talking.

“You’re like those macarons. Small and perfect and delicious.”

She hums. “Bad for your blood pressure.”
“But good for the soul.”

Zoe was sweet, adorable, tiny, soft, and shy. Everything was super cuter about her. No doubt why Javier loved her. I also love her already.

His hand strokes up and down my arm, tracing a gentle line. “No need anymore. No need for jobs at all. You’re gonna be a star, Zoe. I can feel it.”

Zoe was fired but she didn’t cared, she already tired of the cleaning job. She had extraordinary art talented and she decided to sale her artworks, same for Javier, he quit because why would he baking for others when he could open the Baking shop for himself?

I truly love this one and the first two ones. Hero and heroine are great together without unnecessary fights, really enjoyed this one.♥️♥️♥️

It wasn't my fave from Mint but it was a very nice quick read with your burly hero and a shy heroine.
I only wish there was more longing on both sides.
But it was still good and I did enjoy it so I'm rounding it up.

Review : This one has been my favorite I loved Javier and Zoe story . Javier is a baker and Zoe is an artist she ends up painting a mural of him . And she loves his baking and he ends up putting pastries in her cubby . They end up kissing and he wants more and they have some sexy time . But Zoe gets fired and Javier quits Zoe wants to do art full time . It skips time to when Javier has his own bakery and Zoe and him are married and she's pregnant I loved it such a cute story .

Quote : She’s messing with me. My wife loves to paint. And I love to feed her cookies.

Book-Challenge 2022: Book 39

Is it allowed to call it a book, when it‘s barely a short story? I read fanfics that were tenth times the length of this one … but well …

This was short and kinda unimpressive. The heroine was a grey, shy mouse (but beautiful! Of course! 🙄), with a secret identity as „Banksy“.

Hero was the famous pastry-chef.

Insta-blabla, 20 pages of will they won‘t they, a little drama and poof! … THE END.

Short story, which I don’t mind at all, but honestly, it could have been better.

3.5 stars. Like most of Cassie Mint’s books, this has a virgin heroine and a cinnamon roll hero.

These two artists are sweet. I love the dance they do around each other, expressing their admiration of the other using their artistry.

It’s a light fun book. Don’t expect depth. Also, they go in for commitment right away. No BC used or discussed.

"Big Baker" by Cassie Mint offers a decent reading experience with its engaging plot and relatable characters. While the story has its merits, some elements could be more polished. The narrative has moments of brilliance, but consistency is lacking. Overall, a worthwhile read for those seeking a light-hearted story, though it falls short of reaching the heights of excellence.
