Loved the account of getting used to living on a boat. We lived on a sailboat for six years. Have watched two tv shows on living on a narrow boat and could picture this so well! This book shows how hard and complicated it to live on the water but also the beauty and fun that makes it all worthwhile.
I really enjoyed this book. So much so that it’s the first book in a couple of decades that I’ve actually read from start to finish. I’ve always found it hard to get into reading but I flew through this. Sad to have finished it. Thanks Alan Denman. I think you have gotten me into reading :)
A fun read, very quick but I learned a lot. Some of the early DIY projects went a little slowly, but I loved hearing about the denizens of the canals and the customs of those who pursue that lifestyle.
The story of the move, the improvements, the journey are all great. For me there is too much new age nonsense. Follow your bliss?Nice idea if you have a large bank account.
An interesting book, particularly as I have travelled parts of the Grand Union and Stratford Canals and am therefore familiar with many of the places Alan mentions. A very brave decision to take on the Trencaval ' project' and not to give up as soon as they realised what a huge task it was.
A year in the life of one man’s realization that it’s never too late to follow his dream. I always wondered what living on a boat, in Europe, was like!
