Out of the Blue

Rate this book
Life comes at you fast and love comes out of the blue…

A small-town romance about letting go of the past and learning to live in the moment.

Blue Baldwin takes no horse crap from anybody. Well, actually, that’s not entirely true. She does take horse crap. Piles of it. The real kind that is––not the metaphorical one. It kind of goes with the job description when you run a large animal rescue. What she does not take, however, is crap from an entitled movie star who needs to reform his rotten image.

Unfortunately, the farm she manages is in trouble and if she doesn’t raise the cash to save it she’ll be homeless along with the precious animals who depend on her. So she’ll grin and bear the King of Hollywood Screw Ups, and the assistant, and the overprotective brother he brings along. I mean, she takes care of large animals for a living. Isn’t that basically the same thing?

USA Today Bestselling author P. Dangelico loves romance in all forms, furry creatures, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse poop). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media. Although she was born in Milan Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

“You’re the most maddening woman I have ever met. But you are hands down the best person I know. No one has ever come close. No one will ever come close.”

description

🐄 liked adam (the brother) more and wish he was the hero instead. the potential for character development and the eccentric sense of style alone my god 💅🏽

🐄 most of this book was just the heroine lusting over the hero's body from afar, by 50% they only talked 3 times no lie. and the hero didn't have a POV so it's not like we got to know him that way either. by the end i straight up hated him and didn't understand why he was getting away w this wishy washy behavior....

P. Dangelico has got the slow burn trope down to a T! Not only is Out of the Blue a wonderful and tension filled slow burn but add forced proximity too and it could only be good.
I struggled through the beginning but when it first picked up I was one hundred percent invested in Blue’s story and journey.

I was very curious about how the story would play out because of the characters that were introduced. Nothing was obvious except the two grumpy brothers, Aidan and Shane that was going to work on the farm with Blue for three months. They were brooding , frustrating and yet had some very charming qualities about them. Wink wink.

The owner of the farm for rescued animals, Mona was a hoot and such a great friend and mother figure for Blue.
Aidan and Shane learned a lot thanks to Blue but so did she. This is what I thoroughly enjoyed about Out of the Blue. The characters! The three months they spent with each other on Mother Goose Rescue Farm changed them all for the better.
The romance was slow building and a little angsty but so good cause it suited the story.

If you’re in the mood for a feel good romance with two brooding but charming as hell brothers then this is the book for you.

Out Of The Blue gave me the small town laid back feel that I was craving and I was so excited to dive further into this story. I was expecting to have this secrecy of a Hollywood romance brewing with a small town girl but I ended up getting so much more.

Blue has always been the type of woman who knows exactly what she wants and she's followed that mindset in her career. Unfortunately due to a personal trauma, she had to give up what she loves and by doing that she found something that was even more worthwhile. With having a peace of mind and a sense of security, Blue is a happy woman that's in her element. But her world is about to get shaken up a bit when she meets the new guests on the ranch.

giphy-2.gif

I have to say that although I went into this story expecting something different, I'm happy with the way everything turned out. I really liked Blue as a female heroine and I loved how she never held anything back. She told you exactly how she felt and it was up to you whether you wanted to stay mad or applaud her. The issue that I had with the story was that I didn't feel the true chemistry between the main characters because they didn't spend a lot of time together in the relationship phase. Towards the end felt like a lot of things were being rushed and I just needed things to slow down a bit.

Aside from that, If you're a you're a small town romance fan, then I think you're going to enjoy this one.

"Life comes at you fast and love comes out of the blue"…

blurb:
Blue Baldwin, 29, a former paramedic is living and working on an animal rescue ranch. She cares for many animals that survived a lot of cruelty and she is perfectly content living alone with her boss and friend Mona. But the ranch is struggling financially so they accept a new ranch resident, a bad-boy Hollywood movie star for a three-month stint on the ranch. He is there to do what the court ordered and recover his image. Everything would be just fine if he didn't bring his brother with him. Shane Hughes, 36 is a former military. All broody and quiet. Definitely a Blue's opposite.

loved:
everything I kid you not
- writing
- characters
- tropes
- atmosphere
- humor
- animals

I loved to see these two seemingly opposite people fall in love. However, I was mesmerized by all other nonromance parts of this book too. Gasp, I know. But trust me, it is worth it. The way Blue's journey goes..a path of healing and hope and recognizing her worth and what she deserves. Letting go of the past, toxicity, and embracing possibilities of the future. The amazing support system of found family and friendship is one of the strongest parts of this story. There is so much healing P. Dangelico gave to her characters.
I ADORE IT.

When I wish for a warm hug of a book, I think about a book like this one. It has all the ingredients of a feel-good read. This book brought me so much joy, hope, and comfort.

(3.5 stars) I'm a longtime romance reader, usually of historical romance, but that HR genre has deteriorated so much that the recently written ones are appalling. So I often move over to contemporary romance to fill the gap. But so many CRs have cringeworthy heroines. You know, either down on their luck and doing menial jobs, or, in many cases, just too weak and stupid over a hunky guy to deserve living on this planet.

Well, finally I've found a decent, self-respecting, worthy (not of cringes) heroine. She is, perhaps, Dangelico's best ever. Blue Baldwin has a bit of baggage in her past, both with regard to her parents and childhood and also to a traumatic recent incident that had her leaving her paramedic job in L.A. and moving to an animal rescue farm, working for and with Mona, an older woman who's a cross between a Dirty Old Woman and the grandmother we would all love to have.

So Blue rescues animals and, at the same time, they are rescuing her. She's content. She doesn't want bad-boy actor Aiden Hughes to be working at their sanctuary for three months on a community-service deal with the LA justice system after his latest bad-boy lawbreaking episode. But Mona does, so that's what happens.
It turns out that this is a two-fer deal. Aiden's older brother Shane is also along, to, apparently, keep Aiden in line.

You already know Blue has her personal baggage to contend with. But Aiden and Shane also have had a troubled past. So the rescue of animals at the sanctuary will include those of the human variety also. And, of course, there's a romance, with the requisite HEA.

This story is relatively upbeat. The writing is good. There's some great humor, good descriptive passages, and fun dialogue. So why on earth only three stars from me? Because I'm picky and the last part of the book has that overused "I need more pages to this story so I'll add a little romantic conflict with some 'jerkwaddy' behavior by the hero." I've become very much more annoyed by that contrived conflict at the end of romances. I would rather read a shorter book, thanks anyway, than have that silly filler to contend with.

I have the same problem as the previous book i read from this author, it felt like something was missing. The connection and chemistry between the MC's was not there🙄 it's also a slowburn which didn't help at all. The whole book is told from the h POV and i hate when this happens in romance books bc the H was not developed at all. I felt like i knew nothing about him. The whole book was about the h.
Not my fav.

2.5 a whole lot of nothing ⭐️

Blue runs an animal shelter, this part was amazing 🙌, she used to be an EMT, but after an assault she withdrew from herself and the world, and started saving animals ❤️

Incoming is a Movistar doing community service, and his brooding brother. For a long time we don’t know who the mmc is, and I liked that.
The story is well written and witty. It’s also shallow and kind of boring. Blue is lusting for him in a pretty undignified way, almost stalking him. It was a little too much for me.

The ambiguous choice of mmc, should give us an angsty subtext, but it was spoon fed to the reader, and everything was over explained.
I felt nothing reading this, only the little donkeys at the shelter gave me any feels.

The mmc is a weak mmc. He disappeared for 2 months without a word and she still pines🤦‍♀️

Should you read it? This author is amazing, but the book is not. “You can have Manhattan” is a much better book ❤️

I have been in P. Dangelico's corner for some time. I like how she crafts and how she is able to draw me in with complicated characters. With Out of the Blue, she did not disappoint.

We have a group of people thrown together who normally would never cross paths.
On one side we have Blue Baldwin who was an EMT, experienced a life-changing event causing her to leave Los Angeles and move to an animal rescue farm in Ojai, CA. It is run by a free spirit who gets Blue, understands her, and together these women save all sorts of animals.

The hook of this tale is that Blue's best friend is an assistant to a huge agent/manager in the entertainment industry. This agent has a star who is in need of rehabilitation, hours of community service, and if not done, he will go to prison. Blue's friend suggests it all happen at the rescue ranch and the courts accepted these terms.

Surprise, of course, Blue and the owner of the ranch had no idea it was happening or gave approval. However, the owner likes excitement and the monetary gift so the movie star is coming.

This story takes off and the thrill is seeing how it is the brother of the star that connects with Blue. We have conflict, attraction, and romance. We also learn of tortured animals, how a star needs to get out of his head and see the light, and lots of fun.

It read fast and as I said, it did not disappoint.

Current status: positively obsessed with every single thing about this book.

Positively. Obsessed.

You guys. Out of the Blue was the kind of book that you draw out for as long as you can, because even though you can't put it down, you also don't want it to end. The kind of book where you love the characters like they're real people and you are invested in their love story. And so you feel every butterfly in your belly and every bump and bruise on your heart, and when it inevitably ends you feel a little lost because, like, how do you just move on from something like this?

What I'm trying to say is - this is a five star, shout from the rooftops, MUST READ book.

Out of the Blue was the perfect grump/sunshine meets forced proximity story that I didn't even know my heart was thirsting for. I felt Blue - like - in my bones. I loved her so much. And between the sparky chemistry, the witty banter, and the heartfelt romantic moments that literally took my breath away - there is no moving on. I want to live in between these pages, y'all. That's how much I loved this story.

Also, can we talk about the secondary characters for a moment? Lord almighty - between the scene stealing and the heart stealing, it's amazing nobody wound up in prison. The secondary character game here is so strong and it added this delightfully rich added depth to the story for me.

I'm sorry. I know my flaily fangirl is showing. But that's okay because the only thing you need to know is that you need to read this book. If you are a lover of strong hearted heroines and surly heroes hiding hearts of gold, if you are a lover of collies and bears and deliciously decadent (with a small side of quirky) romance - P. Dangelico has you covered and this book is for you! ~ Shelly, 5 "Morning, Noon, and Night" stars.

Blue Baldwin left LA four years ago, and moved to a small town in Southern California. She's put down roots in the community and it feels like home. It turns out country life on a ranch suits her, and is just what she needed. She's found her purpose caring for rescue animals. The place has become her santuary and safe place to land. She enjoys staying in her own bubble away from the outside world. Then an entitled movie star and his entourage arrive, and she has to deal with them for the next three months. She's busy with the farm and doesn't have time to babysit a celebrity trying to rehab his image, but they need the money to keep the ranch going. The Hughes brothers are a lot to handle. She clashes with both in different ways, and both are sinfully beautiful, but only one makes her heart race when he's near.

-Everything about him makes my knees go weak.

-Never in my tender twenty-nine years have I ever been kissed like this before.

-He's so handsome I want to scrub my eyes and erase my mind of him. It's not fair that I know he exists and I have to go on living as if he doesn't.

-I have never before felt this level of attraction in mind and body and spirit to another person. Whenever I'm with him, it's like I'm an explorer. Sometimes he lets me see into his heart and mind. And sometimes I hit a dead end. But I'm always excited to learn more. I'm always excited to try again.

Out of the Blue by P. Dangelico is a slow burn, small town romance full of humor, emotion, and explosive chemistry. It's about letting go of the past, living in the moment and finding your true path in life. The first half of the book is mostly about Blue and her journey, and her interacting with the delicious, difficult Hughes brothers. The romance really gets going about halfway through the book, and we get a beautiful love story. I enjoyed going into it blind and for longest time not knowing which brother would be her love interest. Lol, they were both so yummy. It was killing me not knowing. P. Dangelico really kept me guessing, and continues to be one of my favorite go to authors!

This read was deliciously wonderful. It’s a slow burn set in an animal rescue ranch. It has that small town read with humor, romance, emotional traumatic past, and terrific secondary characters to go along with the our hero and heroine. It’s about overcoming your past and discovering your true self.

The writing, the setting and the plot were spot on. I fell in love with everyone and this read just made me smile, laugh, feel and most of all made me happy. There wasn’t too much drama but just enough. The banter between all the characters was fabulous. Blue Baldwin and the Hughes Brothers, Shane and Aiden are a fun and unpredictable dynamic. But most of all it is a wonderful love story. You’ll need to find out which brother catches Blue heart because once you do, you won’t want to put the book down.

Let’s just say that this book needed a little more time in the oven, but I liked it a lot. I always binge Dangelico's books in one sitting, and I had no trouble devouring this one. It held my attention the whole time, with a laidback vibe, likable characters, and a light, easy feel. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out the hero's thoughts and feelings, and Dangelico knows how to write a lovable grump. The heroine made a great star, and she IS the star. This is her journey - the romance takes a backseat. Personally, I would've loved another 50-100 pages added on towards the end, because I was left with some questions. We only get the heroine's perspective, and I'm still kind of clueless about what the hero was thinking the whole time. So, while I really enjoyed this as I was reading it, I got to the end and felt like there were some pieces missing.

The story follows Blue, a woman who left the city behind after she was physically assaulted. While she used to love her job as a paramedic, putting herself in harm's way no longer appeals. So she's been working at an animal sanctuary for awhile now, and the small town, country life suits her. But when an actor comes to the sanctuary to complete some community service and escape the spotlight, things change. The hot mess of a man has brought along his jerk of a brother, and they don't seem to like each other. As Blue gets to know both men, she becomes drawn to one, but he's closed off and has his own issues. The two become closer and walls start to come down, but that might not be enough this time around.

This was such a light, quick read. I really love Dangelico's writing style, there is just something about the way she writes that works for me, and I have loved nearly every one of her books. I think I could've loved this one with another 50 pages, because I really did like the vast majority of it. Blue makes a great heroine and I loved the complexity of our hero. He is such an intriguing guy, and I was so curious about what made him tick. Their chemistry was great and the slow burn really worked for me, even when the focus wasn't on the relationship itself. Both characters have rich backstories that I wish would've been explored further, and a few chapters from the hero's perspective would've been appreciated. While I love trying to figure out a grumpy, broody hero, there just weren't enough clues for me to know what he was thinking. I'm honestly still confused about a few things, and that's never a great way to finish a book. Perhaps the final version reads a little better, but I'm left with 4-star enjoyment and 3-star feelings about the story itself. Overall, not a favorite from the author, but she's set the bar very high in the past. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this small town romance.

"Morning, noon, and night. I choose you."

Tropes: Grumpy - sunshine, forced proximity, opposites attract, age gap, small town and .

Blue Baldwin lives and works on a remote rescue ranch. There she cares for and provides a safe place for animals that have been injured in the past, while she heals her own traumas from her past life. She doesn't need anything else to be happy, but the ranch is struggling. That's why they took on a Hollywood superstar paying for his crimes, and unknowingly, also his older brother; the mysterious, quiet and broody Shane Hughes.

Contrary to what everyone may believe, I don't like to write bad reviews, so I'm going to focus on what I did like, and briefly mention what didn't work for me.

The Good:
⇢ Blue Baldwin. She went through something really difficult in her "old life" as a paramedic that obviously cut her deep, plus her relationship with her mother, and for some it may seem that she was hiding from her fears, but for me it was beautiful how she continued to live her life on a positive note, coming to terms with her situation and the way she wanted to live from now on. Also, she was super positive and relatable with her inner monologue.

⇢ The side characters. We have Mona -Blue's boss- and her new boyfriend, who added their share of humor to this story, but Mona was also like a mother figure to Blue with her advice and strange way of pushing her to live her life, or more like plotting against her will. And then there's Aiden -Shane's brother-, the superstar paying the court order. He was a pain in the a** at first, but then his character was quite developed, leaving aside the diva to give way to a man who was caught up in this image of a famous actor, along with feeling that he was becoming more and more distant from his brother, even when they were both living on the same ranch.

⇢ The animals. I CRIED. I really cried at one scene in particular that was beautifully painful, but beyond that there were a lot of animals on this farm following Blue around and I just love animals in books too much!! Points for cuteness!

The Bad:
⇢ Shane Hughes. I just didn't understand his character and I didn't have his POV so I had no choice but to hate him. He was older than Blue, more experienced, and yes, more damaged, but I didn't like this hot-and-cold game that he was playing with her, never clarifying his intentions, but acting on his lust while the girl was already dying for him. Also, him leaving her last, not contacting her for months, and then coming back just like that? that's a resounding not my books.

⇢ I don't want to judge anyone, but if you think those scenes where character A spies on character B while he's naked is fine, or even more so, you think it's funny... I have news for you. I really hate these kinds of situations in books, like I get it if character A accidentally saw character B in that situation and then quickly looked away or I don't knok, but staying for the "show"? that's another not for me.

I like this author works but this didn’t hit the mark. It kinda felt boring to me. I mostly skimmed the 2nd half of the book. Couldn’t connect with characters. Romance felt lacking. It just felt meh.

2.5 stars

I've rated the last two P. Dangelico books I've read 2.5 stars which makes me sad because I've really loved quite a few books from her. She was a go-to author for me, but now I might need to reassess.

Basically this book just needed a lot of help. It tried to have a plot, but it felt like the author was just throwing a whole bunch of shit at the wall and seeing what stuck and basically everything slid to the floor.

The heroine has a ~questionably~ tragic and traumatic (recent) past that caused her life to implode (I thought this would be a bigger plot element based on how it was introduced but it didn't really have any big implications). She decides to give up her life and job in LA and move to Ojai and work at a farm rescue. Now I follow quite a few farm sanctuaries on Instagram so the animal day-to-day stuff was a highlight for me. However, when it got to be 30% in and I realized all I'd read about was Blue doing farm things and petting cute animals and absolutely no significant interactions with the H (Shane) I got bored and worried. Essentially the first half of the book is very slow and there's nothing going on with the H and h. I can't even really call it slow burn because we didn't even have an ember at this point it was just Blue perving on Shane from afar and nothing happening.

Then the plot of the book doesn't even really make sense: Blue's BFF Jess offers up Blue's place of work to rehab a troubled celebrity: enter Aiden Hughes. But that's not all he comes with an entourage: ...just his brother Shane Hughes. Oh okay so his brother works for him somehow? Nope. He's...decided...to be there for reasons unknown but supposedly he's there to make sure his brother completes his community service so he doesn't go to jail. Not only that but while he's there he'll be doing his own work (he's a writer) and occupying the h's house while he's there so she's kicked out. Does Shane help with Aiden at all? NO. Not a once. And why you might ask? Good question. No idea. No idea why he thought he needed to be there because he and Aiden aren't even on speaking terms and Shane makes no move to mend that situation let alone compel Aiden to fulfill the terms of his house arrest. So for 1.5 months Aiden's breaking rules, bumming around and not doing anything and Shane is no help SO WHY IS HE THERE? Why is Blue kicked out of her house for Shane to essentially have a writer's retreat at a farm and contribute nothing to anyone? See this lack of concrete plot really annoyed me.

So besides the wishy washy plot and the slooooow fucking first half this book was just a little weird. Shane also sings, plays guitar, was in the army and calls Blue pet names in foreign languages from his army times that just seemed real out of place and odd. Then at the end he pulls a big time dick move and I was just so over Shane by that point I was like whatever.

I did read this whole thing so I didn't hate it. There were a few cute moments, P. Dangelico can definitely make me chuckle, but overall I didn't really enjoy this one.

"Personal experience has taught me that life doesn’t give notice. Good and bad happen, for lack of a better description, out of the blue."

I've read two books from this author before and I loved her writing since the very beginning. This book wasn't an exception, it was short but delightful. I was completely lost in the premises of the small town that I couldn't decipher when it came to the near end. I loved both Blue & Shane as main characters, they had depth and faced some really bad experiences in the past. Though they came from completely different backgrounds, I loved how to complemented each other!

“I think I liked you better when you were stuttering around me.”“That wasn’t stuttering. That was breathing in between letters."

Blue was a gem of a person. She was an ex paramedic who left town because of some reason and now works at a farmhouse taking care of rescued animals. Her life was pretty much laid back but a sudden appearance of a Hollywood celebrity at her employer's ranch, (courtesy of her bestfriend) gives her life an unexpected turn in the form of a former Colonel and now a famous writer, Shane Hughes who barges into her house to keep his infamously notorious brother in check.

“You’re the strangest girl I’ve ever met,” he says with the sweetest smile. I sigh. “Is that a good thing?”“It’s a great thing.”

What I really like about P Dangelico's books is the relationships the main characters share with the side characters. Especially the kind of relationship Blue shared with Mona (the owner of the ranch) & the bitter sweet relationship of Shane and his brother Aiden. Speaking of Shane & Blue, these two were adorable. The gradual development of their relationship felt real and natural. I didn't expect Shane to be such a softie when he first made an appearance but I'm glad to say that he surprised me.
Overall, I think it was a 4.5 star read for me and if you haven't started reading this author's books yet, I hope you give them a try!

When I seen this book, I just knew I had to read it. It intrigued me from the description and I’m glad I did. Their story brought so much joy and happiness to me.

Blue is still struggling after an incident that left her scared and worried to do the things she used to, one that had her leaving the place she lived and to a farm for rescues. The farm that has become a great deal to get. She’s fallen in love with the animals, they’re her peace and her joy. She finds happiness in helping them be happy once again but when a famous guy and his assistant comes to town, her safe haven is about to be uplifted and tested.

Shane is the kind of guy that keeps himself to himself. He’s a dark horse with secrets he doesn’t want getting out. He’s hurting and dealing with betrayal but doesn’t quite know how to deal with that. Going to a farm with his brother for the next 3 month is going to be testing and challenging but the love for his brother will have him do anything, but what Shane doesn’t expect is the sassy girl who lives at the farm throwing him and his quiet self.

Being able to watch these characters has been so much fun. They’re all living in shells and watching them come out of them and grow has been spectacular. It’s not even just the main characters but every character in this book has had their share of growth throughout the pages and that is what made me love this book so much. There’s so much growth and acceptance and love, it’s just beautiful.

I just wanted to put it out there, I never ever expected to cry over a horse and a donkey but there we have it, I did. I was an absolute mess so I want to thank the author for that little gift. The author decided the reader needed to feel heartbreak and that’s exactly what we got.

This is only the second book I’ve read from this author and I’m quickly realising she could become one of my favourites. Her books are always addictive and you end up needing more of her words, she did an absolute fantastic job at bringing these characters to life and I’m sad that I’ve finished it, gah!

Out of The Blue is cute romance with a dash of enemies to lovers one would say. Filled with banter, animals and a wicked old lady that’ll have your heart within minutes.

I love P Dangelico, but this one didn't quite hit the mark for me. It was very much a slow burn, but I found it to be too slow in some places. I couldn't really connect with the hero and was rooting for the other brother to be the main love interest, but alas, it wasn't to be.
It was still had many of the things that i love from Paola; her writing is beautiful and she always draws me in with her world-building. I just didn't love it as much as I've loved her previous work.

3 Twisted Sisters Stars

Blue Baldwin had an incident what seemed to be harmless wasn’t and paid the price and her life is no longer the same nor does she want it to be the same anymore. She has been called by her best friend to accommodate a hare-brained idea that she has. Once the code word has been spoken there is no way around it so not only does she have to look after the rescue animals she also has to look after a spoilt actor and gets a side dish of the sudden brother.

Blue has been stuck in a rut for a while and Mona thinks that this is a great way to get out of the rut. No matter what she loves her animals but she realises she wants more. The whole she-bang, husband and kids. Hard to achieve if you don’t go out. That all changes when she meets Shane.

I love me some slow burn romance and this author is very talented in this genre. I have enjoyed some of her other books with a DOV this however isn’t one of them. Told solely from Blue’s POV it just didn’t give me the insight to Shane that I needed to understand his actions and his dick-ish behaviour.

Nevertheless I still found the book entertaining and engaging and would recommend this book to anyone who loves slow burn romance.

This one deserves a full review, and I'll definitely be back with one soon. I absolutely LOVED the characters and storyline. Emotions run the spectrum with both highs and lows. Such fun to read, too!

One would say this author has you eating out of the palm of her hands. That one would be me.
Her books always draw me in completely because the characters are so rich. She creates magic when she speaks through her characters, inspiring a range of emotions from the reader.

Out Of The Blue is such a touching, funny and uplifting story!

I loved Blue. She was plucky, quirky, smart and completely driven and focused, and she could take care of herself. She was a little insecure but it was only a small part of her character. And the love she had for animals...!
Shane was an excellent match for her. He was as much fun as she was. I really enjoyed their chemistry and full-throttle snarky relationship. One moment I was laughing out loud, the next, I was swooning.

This was such a fun and entertaining story. The author displays what she does best, writing a story that enfolds the reader with humor, emotions and a wonderful story line. Her characters were well written, authentic and complex. The story line was riveting and it kept my attention to the very end.

One thing's for sure - P. is a master storyteller!

The books of Paola Dangelico are - to me - a delight to read. I just love the complex and flawed relationships she describes.

Blue works for an animal rescue and is not amused when her best friend from LA arranges for a well-known actor to do his mandated community service on the farm. Who needs a brooding, difficult man like Aiden - even when he is handsome - and then he also brings his older brother Shane who immediately takes over the guest house Blue normally occupies.

Even when both brothers are handsome moody guys, it is obvious Shane is the love interest. And as we are used to from Dangelico, we get a slow burn to die for.

I really liked all the characters in this story, from mother figure Mona to the animals that have their own role in the book. Blue struggles with some issues like the abandonment by her mother when she was only six and how this plays out in her relationships and what she wants and needs for herself. Is Shane the person for her? Is love always enough?

*** I requested and received an ARC but this is my honest and voluntary review. I also bought a digital copy for myself. ***

I really enjoy this author’s work but this time I was disappointed. Either I zoned out while listening to this audiobook, or the author missed the set-up completely. It felt like there were a few chapters missing here.

Headlines:
Animals were the stars
Misunderstandings
Fun vibes

If you're the kind of reader like me that is enchanted by animals in the background of a book, then Out of the Blue delivers with an endearing set of rescued animals. The main character, Blue is a bit of a rescue case herself but she's dedicated her life to this sanctuary, off the beaten track. Side entrance, a community service Hollywood star and his entourage. Now this plot wasn't as obvious as it seemed at first glance.

I really liked Blue but I feel like I didn't really get to know her as well as I'd hoped. Shane and Blue were a good potential pairing but they didn't connect outside of the chemistry for me; I wanted a bit more.

Out of the Blue was a perfectly pleasant read and a bit of escapism but it didn't grip me or give me the feels. It's a story that starts with some meat and depth to the story but I felt that the depth I saw initally, petered away. I knew these characters on the surface but I didn't really know them, nor did I connect with them.

All this said, this is the kind of book that I crave for low concentration and it was easy to read and turn the pages.

Well, this prolonged weekend made me binge read...

and P. Dangelico had some pretty fine work written in the past and she's been on my radar ever since...

I like her writing style BUT sometimes, the whole delivering things gets in the way of the wholesome experience...*shrugs*

Just like this time, it was an okay read...I didn't especially connect with the characters, what can I say, I'm beginning to sound like an old grumpy maiden (which I'm being far from LOL)...and yet, all I can say is...meh

oh la la...now I find the blurb quite interesting...

looking forward to this one....
