Diana Sheen and her team have been the Feds go-to Agents when magical trouble threatens.
Their ongoing mission to collect dangerous Rhazdon Artifacts is more important than ever.
Enemies don’t stand a chance. Cutting edge technology, honed magical skills and artifact weapons gave them an advantage.
But what happens when the Feds they trusted no longer trust them?
Diana, Rath the troll, Cara, Bryant, and the rest of the team will have to turn to the allies they’ve made on their missions. Ruby Achera arrives from Magic City. Diana even reaches out to Nylotte, the Drow mentor. But is she far more than she seems?
Can any of it be enough when the foundations you counted on have turned on you? Only time will tell if the skills Diana learned from her old mentors help her escape and then – fight back.
For action, magic, snarky banter, martial arts, mystical creatures, and high intrigue, join Diana, Rath, and the rest on their new adventure!
I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

This has all the features I normally love in UF. The cast of characters. A female lead. Magic. The underdogs fighting the system. I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters. It felt like this was book 2 or later in a series with all the relationships pre-existing.
good book, not buying the anti-lethal response from the team.
Glad to see these characters back, good fast paced story. Even kind of like the bad guys. What I’m not buying is the fact that Diana and her team will not use lethal combat against those who are trying to kill them. Even though in the book it’s mentioned that they should be captured, everybody who is shooting at them are using real bullets doesn’t make sense. If someone was trying to capture me I would understand not using lethal means, but you were shooting at me with real live bullets so in that case I should be able to shoot back. That’s my only gripe about this book. Very enjoyable.
DNF. I may return if I read the previous series. This is labeled as a stand alone but you can tell the characters have back stories and it made it hard for me to get into this series because of that.
This was a great continuation of Agent Diana Sheen, and her team's story.
When I finished the Magic City Chronicles, where they kept making an appearance, I thought that this would be the only time I'd get to see them.
But, thanks to TR Cameron wanting to continue their story (he talks about this in his Authors' Notes after this first book), this new-to-me series continues, where it ended in the previous series!
I really love this team, especially Rath, and had felt saddened when I'd finished their own series , and story - well, so I thought at the time, anyway - so, reading this first book of the new series, has been a wonderful treat for me!
I love that things have become even more complicated for them all, and that they have ended up practically being on the run from the very people they were working for.
But I can see that all's not right - although, thankfully, it's not obvious to me why this has happened, which is brilliant, as I can keep reading the series, and find the surprises I know must be in them, as they appear!
I'm really loving this trilogy of Authors, and I'm loving these books so much that, despite it being late for me, I'm going to set up book two on my Kindle, and start reading it straight away! Lol
That is: "Rogue Agents on the Run".
So, I'll probably have to give in and sleep part way through this but, once I HAVE finished it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of Diana's continued journey!
Hold on to your hats and secure all personal belongings!
To roughly quote another review I wrote on the final book in the Magic City series, Cameron’s writing style is much like riding a roller-coaster… fast, furious, exhilarating filled with loopty-loops and leaving you screaming with enjoyment as you hit the end. And, EXACTLY like a roller-coaster, that end always arrives far too quickly.
If you haven’t read the precursor series to this book, it’s not necessary. Of course, as an avid reader, I truly feel that it gives much more depth to the tale if you have. Regardless, Cameron has once again delivered a solid home-run with this latest start to a new series. The stage has been set, the costumes are ready and the actors are all in place, practically guaranteeing a phenomenal series to come.
So grab your hats, secure any personal belongings and hold on to your seats for a great ride. Please remember, however, to keep your hands inside the car at all times.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title. (Audible Membership) A fast-paced military op tale where a group of mixed magic and highly skilled combatants who had been tasked to recover artefacts that if used by the wrong hands could result in individual insanity or mass destruction, depending on the item. However, another team convinced some U S senators that the original team was not handing over allsourced artefacts, and therefore may be going rogue. Although the passing on of all items had not occurred, due to the fear that used in the wrong hands of the allies could be as bad as the wrong hands of the enemy., this was to keep the general public safe, not to use the items in a nefarious manner. Now the original team has been deemed Traitors and was being chased across the USA.
Fairly good story, though it's clear this is not the first book these characters have appeared in. It's listed as book 1 of a series, but that's (slightly) misleading, since where the story begins is obviously taking place after other stories in this universe. It's enjoyable as is, but I'm guessing it'd be better if you've read books from the other series (whatever that is) I think it's the magical federal agents series, but that's just a guess, based on happenings in the book. I've never read any of those, so can't say for sure. Regardless, minus the you've missed a whole lot of history vibe this book gives off, it's a decent read, and one I'm not sorry I read, and will likely read more in the series, but onlyy after I've caught up on what I missed.
Great start to a cracking adventure of urban fantasy meets magical fantasy
I definitely recommend that anyone who wants to read this series, first read the Federal Agents of Magic series and at least the first book in the Magical City Chronicles. This book, the first in the next series involving this team of magicals and humans, builds on those storylines and is much more enjoyable when one knows how the team came together and how they came to interact with other defenders of innocents. As the first book in this series, this is an excellent introduction to what comes next – another action-packed, page-turning adventure where warriors of magic and human combat have to uncover secrets and fight opponents in a mind game of tactical manoeuvring and well-described combat scenes.
If you have not read the previous adventures of Diana, Cara, Rath, and company. I suggest that endeavor to be worthwhile.
This story continues those adventures with a new group of bad guys within the government. This puts Diana's group on the run, but she has friends and it's hard to keep her down for long.
Really enjoyed this book and eagerly awaiting the next.
Another fantastic read from this collaboration of writers and I cannot wait to read the whole series. There are many familiar characters and the action is always engaging and entertaining. The bad guys are always getting in the way and always seem to have more money and people to use than the good guys. Frustrating. Hopefully good triumphs over evil as it should.
I missed Diana, Rath and her team and am very happy to have them in another series. Diana and her team are being set up as the bad guys and have to figure out who's behind it and try not to get caught. Love the action and the characters in this series and cannot wait for the next book.
This is a new discovery for me and i did feel lost a bit at the beginning with all the characters names and nicknames and it begins with a military intervention .However once that i put that aside i really got into the story and it was captivating.
i can't wait to read more of these or perhaps try the others series as i learned that we learn about the characters in some
Good to be back with Diana and her team!!! Well written introductory book to a new series involving characters new and old. Diana and team are put on the defensive when accused being traitors... New enemies seem to have an ulterior motive to what they're doing. Have to keep reading to find out.
The story starts in the middle of a fight, and continues with the Agents of Magic being forced to keep on fighting against an unknown enemy who seems bent on destroying them. Fast-paced, lots of suspense, likeable and quirky characters, lots of humour - loved this and am looking forward to getting more of this series.
So amazingly happy to see these people again!!! I'm praying for a 50 book run!!! They can work with everyone on Earth AND Oriceran!!!! Howard S (the S stands for Super Fan!)
You would think a secret base in Antarctica would be safe but no, there is always someone ready to try a power play. Not the actual real government but someone with an ulterior motive.
Diana & her crew are back with more adventures! I loved the original Federal Agents of Magic & am so excited to see Rogue agents o Magic! The first book has me anxiously waiting for more!
Though these characters were new to me it didn’t take long to get their dynamics and their opponents ideals! Action packed with spy friends kept me engaged! Looking forward to the next installment!
I never have been big on spy stories, which this book reminds me of. However, this isn't really spies. The plot is easily followed and each of the main characters are very interesting. I definitely recommend this book.
Always a pleasure to ride along with the team, wherever they happened to land. There is always an adventure waiting with a slightly mischievous troll and his favorite Bordosi on the loose.
I love these books about Orician. Gives me something to think about. We are still infants in the normal sense of we don't know everything. There very possibly could be another dimension attached to our world. Who knows.
Lots of fun and action, I liked the characters and interactions. Interesting plot. I think the next book in the series will continue to connect more dots about what is going on.
I believe I’d like this series, however, this isn’t the beginning of this group of people and their world, is it? Where did it come from? I want to go back and find their history and beginnings and come forward.
A great adventure with fabulous characters and challenges! Dianna is leading a merry group as they try to right the circumstances they face. Someone has it out for them, and they are very skilled!
