If you were born before the 1980's and you went to town on a bus on a Saturday night, then had a bag of chips on the way home from the pub and didn't even have a phone in your house let alone owned a mobile.you'll laugh you socks off.
I enjoyed this. Great insight into paddy as a person and I learnt more about his past and present. And how he got to where he is today. I felt myself being in tears at some points too, laughing too.
Let the book, see the review. 'My Lifey' by Paddy McGuinness is a laugh-a-minute romp through the highs and lows of the life of Bolton happy chappy Paddy McGuinness. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would! Ding dang do, 5 stars for you!
⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5 TW: parental loss, bereavement and visiting a parent in the chapel of rest. A comical autobiography by Paddy McGuinness where he explores childhood - the time of writing. I particularly enjoyed hearing about his showbiz career and the behind the scenes / planning of Take Me Out. It was touching to hear of his love for his mother too. I resonated deeply with how he felt upon seeing his mum in the chapel of rest as I’ve recently also been through this. I’ve not been able to put my thoughts and feelings on it into words, but Paddy manages to do this so well and I almost felt completely validated by it. Really touching. It was also quite fun to hear about his marriage to Christine. However, this was also a bit sad because we know him and Christine aren’t together anymore.
Great. ! Funny, down to earth, and generally seems like a sound bloke! Real rags to riches story, so much friendship throughout and I think that's testament to Paddy being a great person! Let the book see the shelf
Now this book is the very definition of the genre Biography! This is how a biography is supposed to be written! It’s a story of a person’s life from birth to wherever they are at the time of writing! What a fantastic book from Paddy! I’ve always loved Paddy Mcguinness and have watched him for years on everything he’s ever done. He’s absolutely hilarious and one of my favourite comedians along with Peter Kay. Many don’t see Paddy as a comedian as such because he hasn’t done a great deal of stand up, but many moons ago I did go to watch one of his stand up shows, I loved it, but reading this book he admits it wasn’t one of his best stand ups! I wouldn’t say that, I absolutely loved it and to think he wasn’t happy with that time of his life is a shame…. The audience would have said the same as me I am sure!
In true comedian style it’s funny throughout, whilst touching in places and towards the end of the book finding out Paddy suffers with anxiety was a complete shock because nobody would ever know that. Given his massive personality on all of his TV shows, you would never imagine what he has been through in a million years because he hides it so well! It made me think all the more of him as a person to not let that affect his work.
He has recently done a documentary with his wife Christine about having autistic children and it brought me to tears, I am looking forward to his wife’s book coming out as I will definitely be reading that. I didn’t know anything about his wife really before watching the documentary and reading his book and so I will been keen to read that when it’s out.
A brilliant book by a brilliant guy. Please do more stand up Paddy, you were made for it!
It was alreet. I'm not really a Paddy McGuinness fan tbh. I've always thought that he has stood on the shoulders of giants and can run with the hare and hunt with the hound. However, this book has changed my opinion somewhat. He does definitely know how to play the game, that comes across loud and clear, but he doesn't appear to be covert about it or kid himself - or attempt to kid others - that he is something he's not.
It was an enjoyable, easy read. A bit like sitting in the pub with your mates and one of their friends (who you sort of know through them) walks in, sits down and the pair start reminiscing. The tales that start to flow are all of that nature. Like I said, enjoyable, amusing and relateable if you are from a similar background, but also tinged with the sadness which comes to us all in life and which PMcG does not shy away from exploring.
Also, I am going to see if Dave Spikey has written a memoir. I've read Peter Kay's and now Paddy's take on things, so it will be interesting to see what he has to say himself.
I'll give the book 4 stars because it should have either been longer at this price or less than a tenner for the Kindle version. It's not like you can pass it on to anyone else like you can with a hard copy. Paddy will appreciate that...he would probably have found some way of nicking it or have got a snide version off the market or some bloke down the pub.
My Lifey offers a candid look into Paddy McGuinness’s journey from his modest beginnings in Bolton to his television career. The book includes humorous anecdotes and heartfelt moments, reflecting his down-to-earth personality. However, some readers may find certain sections less engaging or overly focused on specific topics, such as his early romantic escapades. While the narrative provides insight into his life, it might not delve deeply into all aspects readers might expect. Overall, it’s an entertaining read with both lighthearted and touching stories, though it may not resonate with everyone
Really enjoyed this and at times I laughed out loud. Paddy hasn’t always had it easy and he has had sadness in his life but he has always worked hard, seen an opportunity and gone for it. He has always had the gift of the gab, so to speak, and this has got him out of many a difficult, funny or strange situation. I have a lot more respect for him since I have read this book.
I loved this book. As a fellow northerner I enjoyed his references to Bolton ie Horwich leisure centre which I used to go to! He is very down to earth, which I love and sounds like a really good hearted guy. I found it a really interesting and honest account of his rise to fame. I listened on audio which I think enhanced it too, with his great northern accent.
I have always loved Paddy McGuinness as a TV personality and so was intrigued to read this book. Glad I did! Very enjoyable and overall it is refreshing too learn how much of a down-to-earth man he is and remaining very grateful for all the work opportunities been given throughout his career so far
I have always truly loved paddy, his humour and what a funny, kind genuine person he is. He has a heart of gold and that came across in this book. I could really relate to his memories growing. This book had me laughing and crying.
I read this after my dad leant it to me. As a proud Boltonian, he's a big Paddy and Peter Kay fan so thought I'd give it a go. Paddy has some lovely down to Earth stories with his natural humour thrown in as well. A nice little read, especially for any Northern folk.
I really enjoyed this book. I felt it was an honest account of parts of his life. I heard his voice as I read, like it was written in his accent. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’ve ever been a huge fan of Paddy but he came across as a really nice fella, I hope that is true
Excellent read. Loved this book. Paddy is open, honest, and incredibly interesting. This book will have you laugh out loud, shed a tear, but most importantly - keep you turning the pages. Thanks for the amazing read Paddy.
Brilliant book, a very funny enjoyable read but with 3 sad chapters that don’t require lots of laughs and Paddy writes those chapters with the dignity they deserve.
