Change on the Fly

Imagine being in love with your best friend's brother.
Then.. keeping it a secret for years.
Ridiculously charming, a total player and a hockey super star... Reed Davidson has been the boy next door who's had my heart for as long as I can remember.
He was the ultimate bad boy, and I was just his sister’s shy best friend.
But when Reed's world is suddenly flipped upside down and he gets custody of his nephew, I'm the only one who can help.
I shouldn’t have offered to come on the road with them, but Reed wasn’t cut out to be a single dad and I knew he needed help. I tried to hide my feelings for him, but the two of us, the cutest kid on the planet, and a long hockey season were a recipe for disaster.
Reed was used to getting everything he ever wanted, and this time... He wanted me.
Only now, the stakes are higher and my heart is the one on the line.

This book is reallyyyyyy fast paced and eventhough it is supposed to be “single father” it doesn’t really seem like the main plot.
It is a friends with benefits, best friend’s brother book.
There were a few mistakes and “ mistakes so it is just sad that it wasn’t edited again.

Also let’s be honest:
The guy proposed after like 1 year of a relationship and I cringed when Reed said that “she tought me how to love”. It just sounded very much thrown in there and unrealistic especially with how he acted with Evan.
And yeah it was just too fast and way too many sex scenes in comparison to plot.

The problem that I have with Change on the Fly is Holland, the heroine. I get into the point. Holland is heroine who is super self conscious that bordering annoying. So annoying that I want to slap her. Miss Moore did not adding excitement on the plot.

I thought this book is going to be easy, clean NA romance. Just perfect to close my weekend. Sadly I am so wrong.

The idea wasn’t bad, but everything moves too fast.
It’s supposed to be a single parent trope, but we barely see the kid, it’s like more than a side plot rather than the main one.
For me it was more a hockey, friends with benefits, best friend’s brother trope.
The thing that I liked most is that there is no drama, no unrealistic arguments or huge absurd misunderstandings, so that for me is a win.

Sugary sweet and deliciously sexy! Maren Moore sensationally sparkles in this best friend's brother, single dad hockey heartfelt romance. Swoony feels, quirky fun, charming chemistry, and loads of steam- it's totally pucking adorable!

Newspaper Nanny fans rejoice- REED is here! And he's hands down my favorite Maren Moore hero to date. As the result of unexpected and tragic circumstances, Reed finds himself the newly minted single dad to precious little Evan. But his bachelor lifestyle isn't the only barrier to this new challenge- Reed's full time hockey career keeps him busy, and the road, more than ideal, especially when trying to form a relationship with sweet little Evan. Serendipitously, he knows his sister's best friend is in need of some extra income- and he soon discovers she's a bit of an Evan-whisperer, second only to Pickles the octopus, of course, so she's the perfect travel companion for baby Evan. Only challenge is that he's recently started to see the luscious Holland in a more than friendly way- and little does he know, Holland has crushed on him since childhood. But Reed's a player, in more ways than one, and his sister Emery might not take too kindly to these two canoodling. But now that they're spending lots of time together- and a delicious arrangement is born.

Reed is everything I wanted as more. We got the level headed, charismatic, affable man we saw in NN, but we also get a man with complex layers and some really well written character growth. Confronting some of his own baggage while learning to be an unexpected father sparks some really wonderful introspection- we see Reed rethink his priorities and desires, and we see him let go of some past pains. All catalyzed by his love for Evan, and his burgeoning feelings for Holland. AND HE IS SO DREAMY, Y'ALL!! Kind, fun-loving, generous, and compassionate. He has a big ole heart- and anytime we see him bonding with Evan I felt my ovaries exploding. But its his connection with Holland that had the pages turning- these friends turned secret lovers that enchanted me completely.

Holland is everything I love in a book heroine. She's kind, gentle, a bit sassy, and very loving. She blossoms in this story- finds her voice, learns to prioritize herself and trust in others, and she truly shines as a heroine. Her journey is quieter than Reed's, but not less meaningful, and I simply ADORE her.

Their chemistry is so sweet- and with the right dash of heat. Reed's got a dirty mouth- AND I AM HERE FOR IT. But I also loved how they opened up their hearts to each other, and gently evolved their relationship into something more intimate emotionally. Their banter and flirtation is both charming and authentic, and I just swooned and sighed left and right at their cuteness. And, the drama is pretty low angst- so you just feel good.

Maren has really hit her stride - and it's clear the Totally Pucked series is going to be a new favorite. Swoony alpha hockey stars and the sassy but vulnerable heroines that enchant them? I NEED ALL OF THEM! Sweet, sincere, and feel-good romantic magic. Maren reminds us love comes where we least expect it- but when you find it, well, change on the fly- and dive right in. Because nothing is as sweet.

There's something so adorable about the book Change On The Fly. Reed and Holland are the stars of this adorable romance book. We already know Reed from The Newspaper Nanny, but who is Holland? Holland is Reed's sister Emery's best friend who, like Reed, grew up in the house next door to them. Although Reed is a superstar hockey player, Holland is a librarian and working her butt of in school.

The two of them have new and current battles in their lives. Holland's father Alzheimers has progressed and she will do anything for her dad. Cash has consistently been tight for them yet she won't ever request for help. Reed’s life takes a turn when he know needs to become the legal guardian of his step-sister's child, Evan. In this case, he is apprehensive that he will not be decent and will end up like his dad. When Evan shows up in Chicago, he's a wad of nerves and has night terrors. At the point when nobody answers Reeds calls, he calls Holland for help. From that point on, Holland assists Reed with Evan by going to each away game during the season and watching him while he is occupied.

All this hanging out with each other makes sparkles fly. So, they decided to come up with a set of rules so no one gets hurt when the end of his season comes along. But as we know, that isn’t going to work. As the emotions start to develop, so does the considering about what Emery is going to say. Holland can’t keep a secret from her best friend but keeps her relationship with Reed a secret since she doesn’t know how she’ll respond.

Read and find out what’s going to happen.

"That falling in love is the greatest feeling in the world, and they're not wrong. But it's also scary. That's the part that no one tells you about. The vulnerable, raw part of you that you're putting in another person's hands and praying that they love you for who you are."

Change on the Fly is the first book in Maren Moore's new series Totally Pucked. If you're looking for a book that is a hockey romance with the best friends brother trope then this book is perfect for you. It was sweet, steamy, and emotional at times and I was hooked from start to finish.

Change on the Fly follows Reed Davidson a professional hockey player who's life has just turned upside down when his nephew Evan ends up in his custody and suddenly becomes a single father trying to navigate through this period (Evan is the cutest little boy). Then we meet Holland, she's the girl next door and his sister's best friend. Holland has always had a crush on Reed ever since she was a kid but he has never looked at her in that way until now. Sparks fly when they're around each other, and that complicates things now that Holland is now Evans nanny while Reed is on the road. They can't deny the sexual tension and chemistry so Holland and Reed decide to have a friends with benefits arrangement, but with rules that include that they can't fall in love, their arrangement is only temporary and nobody, especially Reeds sister, can know about them. But lines begin to blur and feelings begin to get involved, which complicates everything and they have to decide if they want to be together or end the arrangement.

This book was so good. Reed is the perfect book boy (I'm obsessed with fictional hockey players) and the cuteness between him and Evan melts my whole heart. I adore the relationship between Reed and Holland, you could see from the very start that they were meant to be and the chemistry between them was perfection. You all need to read this!!

Esperaba más.
Tenemos un:
Single Dad
Nanny
Crush de la infancia
Deportista

2.5⭐️ i hesitated reading this series for a while because the first book i read by this author was definitely not my cup of tea, so i had very very low expectations. and dont get me wrong, this book was not at all great. a lot of the phrasing and verbiage and flow of conversations just really didn’t work for me, but it was quick, and i love a single dad romance. it wasnt spectacular by any means, but it was finish-able lol

Best friend’s sibling romances are not usually my jam, but this one was so well done! Having secrets hanging over a couple usually makes me very jittery, but in this case I was having too much fun to care.

Reed and Holland are thrown together out of mutual desperation: her for money and him for child care. Reed is growing up fast as the new guardian for his nephew. The transition was almost too easy with Evan, especially given all he’s been through. And when Reed and Holland finally succumb to their feelings, not once were they interrupted during “grown up time!” I wish my own kids had been that well behaved.

Reed and Holland were amazing as both a couple and a caretakers for Evan. I even have a soft spot for Pickle, the stuffed octopus.

Honestly, this is a sweet, sexy and fun story that everyone will enjoy reading!

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions and these are my honest opinions.

Tropes: instant family (made this up but we move), single dad trope, little sister's best friend, secret relationship, sports romance.

“Our love is a lot like my favorite hockey term.”
“And what’s that?”
Change on the fly. You don’t stop, you change what you have to and finish out the game.”

Change on the Fly is the first book in Maren Moore's new series Totally Pucked, and and funny moments, heartwarming scenes, and swoon-worthy romances is exactly what this promises!

Reed Davidson is a hockey star enjoying his bachelor life. Yes, he likes kids and knows how to change a diaper, but he prefers to stick to the forever uncle role. That is, until he was appointed the guardian of a 3-year-old boy, needing all the help to go from uncle to father figure. Holland Parker kept her crush a secret for good reason; first, he's out of her league, and second, he's her best friend's brother. She already has enough drama in her life to get caught up in this mess, but when Reed came to her door asking for help, she couldn't say no. Now this sudden proximity is about to draw all of her secrets out...

3.5 | The chemistry and steam in this book... HELP!! I really enjoyed this one, both Reed and Holland were likeable characters so it was easy to fall for this romance and their dynamics, a bit of cutes moments, sexy times, some jealousy and angst, and then some declarations = happy me. There's also little Evan and this little family that they formed on the road with the cutest moments between them. And if you read The Newspaper Nanny then you will be happy to know that there were also some cameos from Liam, Juliett and the girls.

I really like what Mareen Moore is doing here with these books; they're funny, easy to read, light on the angst and hight on cozy moments, and they always have a happy ending that will leave you smiling. I can't wait for the next installment in this group of friends!

Apparently I’m a sucker because when I see authors are updating their covers, I’m like - “should I give this a try??”

This was pretty short (270 Kindle pages) and sort of felt like a Hallmark movie - it’s a tale as old as time of the dorky young girl who falls for her best friend’s older brother, whose always been a hotshot. It was sickly sweet, low angst, fast paced. It felt like a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Thrifty kind you get at Rite Aid.

It wasn’t anything special. I didn’t feel like I got to know the characters, or that they were more complex than a stereotype (sweet poor girl / hot rich hockey player). But if you’re looking for a palate cleanser, or something sweet, or something low angst… there you go.

kinda convinced she read 2 chapters from the deal and said ‘yeah i’ll write like that’ but i wasnt complaining

… until he called her babe every other sentence and then it became an issue

cute though!! i wish his ice-time had more of a chance to shine because i love hockey and hockey romance books and ‘change on the fly’ is a literal hockey term but it’s alright. i skimmed the smut because for some reason the formatting got weird and her writing got clunky and too much for me. but it was quick and fun so meh

“I fell in love with her, even though it was against the rules.”

Change on the Fly is the first book in Maren Moore's new hockey romance series Totally Pucked and follows Reed Davidson and his sister's best friend Holland. Reed and Holland were really cute together and had so much chemistry, and I enjoyed their story a lot. The family they quickly formed with Evan while traveling for hockey was everything!! I already liked Reed in the author's previous books, but I loved him even more here. Holland was also a wonderful character and was always there to help Reed and Evan. The way their relationship evolved throughout the story was perfect, with sexy and funny moments, but also angst and jealousy. I'm loving Maren Moore's work a lot, and I can't wait to see what happens next in the Totally Pucked series!

Pro-hockey player, Reed is an eternal bachelor, not looking to settle down. Unexpectedly, he becomes a guardian to his nephew—who he didn’t know existed up until that point—literally overnight. Not knowing what to do, Reed turns to his sister’s best friend, Holland, for help. He needs a nanny to be with his nephew during away games & be on the road with him and Reed knows Holland would be perfect for the job. The only problem? Reed has some seriously inappropriate feelings for his new nanny…

Change on the Fly by Maren Moore is book 1 in the Totally Pucked series. I thought Reed & Holland’s romance was a cute, low-angst sports romance with the single dad (via guardianship) trope mixed in. I think this had so much potential and I wanted to fall in love with Reed & Holland, but it did fall flat for me. I needed more emotion, more push & pull to feel fully connected to this romance. I still do want to continue on with the series because I’m curious where it’ll go! 3/5 stars.

my best friend's brother is the one for me!

Holland's been crushing on Reed since she was a kid, but now he finally notices her. the thing is that when she was younger she promised her bestie, that she would never sleep with Reed.
Reed has to take care of his nephew since his half-sister passed away, so he asks Holland to help him, and slowly they can't fight their attraction anymore.

as you can imagine they hide the relationship from the best friend, and i would have no trouble if my bestie dated my brother, i just would be angry that she didn't tell me!

if you want a low angst with a hockey player and a toddler, read this.

-Best friends brother
-Hockey romance
-Single guardian

When Reeds distant sibling passes away he’s unexpectedly asked to care for her 3 year old son Evan. Reed may be a playboy hockey player who doesn’t entertain relationships but he also has a heart and refuses to let Evan go into the foster care system. When Evan comes around his whole world changes. He’s suddenly a single guardian and a pro hockey player. Holland, his sister’s best friend and old childhood friend, comes to his rescue when he least expects it. With now Evan and Holland in his life he wouldn’t have it any other way.

While this book was very light on hockey, I still loved the story and can’t wait to binge the rest of this series. Six books of single dads and hockey?! Yes please!

Best Friend Brother but with a big twist!!

Wow!! This had a much better paced than her other books. You get more moments of the couple and just them without the baby involved. I wish I was more attached to the characters than it would have been perfect for me. Nonetheless, it’s a great story and if you love hockey romances with babies, Maren Moore books are for you.

Reed's life has changed drastically. He's now guardian to the little nephew he doesn't know, and he isn't sure how he's going to do it - be a hockey dad, make sure he's there for Evan, and be the best player (on and off the ice) he can be. Enter his little sister's best friend, Holland. The same Holland he recently started realizing isn't the little girl who's always been there with his sister. The situation is bound to uh, implode - the playboy hockey athlete, the gorgeous woman who's no longer a little girl, all traveling together in close proximity. AND when they can't keep their hands off each other, they have to keep their little side arrangement on the down low so Reed's sister doesn't find out. Yeah...

I love player reformed stories. When hockey is involved and sister's friend too?! Yeah I'm so there for this, and I'm glad because Change on the Fly is the kind of story I like best - sweet main characters with insane chemistry, an adorable little kid, and sports. Can't ask for anything more than all of this.

Hockey romances, I’ve decided, are my comfort reads. It doesn’t matter if the plot is like every other typical hockey romance, they just always make a good and easy read for me. And this was that.

Reed is your typical man whore hockey player until he has to change his ways because he is now the guardian for his half-sisters 3 year old, Evan.

Reed struggles with his new single dad life and so asks his sister’s best friend, Holland, if she would help him look after Evan while he travels for work.

Holland and Reed start up a friends with benefits agreement with rules not to fall in love, which they both don’t stick to, obviously.

Like I said, a lot of hockey romance books have the same usual plots and tropes but it was still an enjoyable read and I loved everything about Holland and Reed.

Change on the Fly by Maren Moore

Rough summary

Reed Davidson’s life changed abruptly after one phone-call late at night. Nights spent in clubs, drinking, and surrounded by puckbunnies are exchanged for play-dates and potty training when he becomes his nephew’s guardian. But taking care of a kid, having such a responsibility, isn’t as easy as being fun uncle Reed to his best friend’s daughters.
Luckily for him, and for Evan, Holland Parker is only a few doors down, just like she always has been when they were kids. And like the sweet soul she is, she’s willing to help with Evan. But to her, Reed is anything but her best friend’s big brother. To Holland, he’s the boy she’s loved since forever. But it’s something she’d rather keep a secret. Because not only would she lose her best friend over this secret, Reed has never seen her as anything more than just Holland – his little sister’s best friend, his next-door-neighbor.
But Holland is no longer just his shy, nerdy neighbor. To make things easier, so to speak, rules have to be set. But rules are meant to be broken, right?

Review

When I saw that Uncle Reed would have his own book, I swear I just about fainted on the spot. I didn’t, but that’s what it felt like. Just like TNN, the writing in COTF was fun, easy to read, and all around hilarious. Maren Moore’s writing has a way of making you forget time, and I often found myself reading one more chapter, and one more, just one more, until my body just said, “No ma’am, time for bed.”

I do prefer my-brother’s-best-friend over my best-friend’s-older-brother, but this book really just made me forget that. If there’s one thing that I love in this book, it’s the fact that they basically started off as friends. It was never a situation, at least for Reed, where he ‘wanted’ to be more than just friends. Because really, all he focused on was hockey.

The friendship between Holland and Emery, Reed’s younger sister, is the kind of friendship that makes you feel a little jealous. At least for me, the relationship between these two friends is more like 2 sisters. The bond they share really is such a sweet thing, and this is oh-so-evident when she goes years, years, without telling Emery that she likes Reed as more than, because their friendship means more to her than any boy, even if that boy is Reed. To me, it’s obvious that Holland really does care for and love Emery, so keeping her situation-ship with Reed a secret was anything but easy.

I thought the relationship between the adults and Evan was one of the sweetest things ever. Evan, having lost both his parents at once, and now having to live with an uncle he never even met before. It was really sweet to see how much Reed cares about little Evan, how he comes to love this nephew he had never met before, and how he grows into such an amazing parent.

And now on to the main stars of the show – Reed and Holland. In my humble, humble opinion, Holland has the soul of an angel. Her life at the moment is a difficult one – from working, to completing her master’s degree, to taking care of her dad who suffers from Alzheimer’s. But still, she’s willing to help Reed with Evan. The relationship between them is both sweet and swoon-worthy, and sizzling hot. If there’s one thing I’d say about them, it’s that I wish I had someone as sweet, thoughtful, and caring as Reed in my life.

I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are mine, which should be obvious by the rambling. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review Change on the Fly by Maren Moore.
