Love will OUT #5

A Christmas for Chrissie

Rate this book
An eternal bachelor convinced he’s finally found ‘the one’ vs. a woman scarred by her past. It’s gonna get messy…

I came back to Wisconsin seeking peace. The PI firm You Cheat, We Eat was not the place to find it. Not when the owner’s uncle takes one look at me and knows I’m hiding a big, fat secret.

Wally can keep looking. I’m not divulging my past to anyone. But when it turns out I have a stalker, Wally will do everything in his power to help me and keep me safe, but first he needs me to reveal my entire ugly past.

It’s not so simple. I can’t divulge my secrets. Seriously. I will be in big trouble – the kind where you end up in jail – if I open my mouth. But it turns out Wally has a surprise of his own. A surprise that can help him learn all about my past.

Wally claims he’ll take care of my stalker and then I’ll see how Love will OUT. Oh boy.

This seasoned romantic comedy features a woman who’s been burned by her past – literally – there were flames and everything, an eternal bachelor ready to give up his bachelor ways who will pull out all the stops to make sure his Angel stays safe, a group of friends who will do just about anything to find out what in the world is going on since someone’s not telling, and a makeshift family of former Army buddies who can not only tell dirty jokes but still have skills.

A Christmas for Chrissie is a standalone book in the Love will OUT romantic comedy series.

O.M.Geee!! I have really loved this series but this one was my favorite!! I have loved the uncles throughout and I am so happy we get to see them get their happy ever afters!! A Christmas For Chrissie was the fifth book in Dena’s Love Will OUT series. It was sweet, sexy, and full of secrets and laughs!

Chrissie thought she came to town to hide out but little did she know she had settled down with a bunch of “retired” army buddies. Luckily, when her past caught up with her, Wally was already a step ahead. Would his fierce instinct to protect her be enough?

I loved their chemistry and their bond over shared backgrounds!! Chrissie could kick butt!! This truly has been a great series and you can read this as a stand-alone, but I recommend reading them all!! I can’t wait to see what will be in store for us next!!

I cannot wait for what’s next. I love this series so much and it’s hard to believe that we’ve gotten so far, from Hailey all the way to Chrissie. I loved the jokes about spies and the silly jokes that Barney made. I loved Chrissie’s strength and her entire personality. I loved everything about this book.

Wally gets his story!! A Christmas for Chrissie is the 5th in the Love Will Out series and Wally meets his match with love interest Chrissie.

Wally is one of the "Uncles" we have met in the prior books. He and his Army brothers are introduced in the first book of the series and we see them play key roles in each book since. Wally is the only one still working as a "super spy" and takes it upon himself to do background checks on everyone who becomes part of the family. When Chrissie is hired at private investigation firm You Cheat We Eat to replace Suzie who has moved on to her beer business Wally falls short in uncovering her past.

Chrissie has recently moved to Milwaukee to start over after leaving her government career. Her past is carefully hidden and she refuses to disclose anything about her life before. Her skills, on the other hand are hard to hide even behind a receptionist desk. She befriends the PI team and the Uncles. She is older than the PI ladies and quickly catches Wally's eye. He decides to take it upon himself to learn everything about her.

When Chrissie's past comes back to threaten her new life everyone steps up to help even without knowing all the details. In his effort to protect her Wally discovers he has feelings for her. Chrissie fights hard to resist him having been burned in the past by an ex.

Chrissie is an amazingly strong and capable woman and compliments Wally in the best possible way.

Wally (one of the uncles) got his book!

Chrissie moved to a small town in Wisconsin to hide from her past and for a quiet life. She sure picked the wrong place to get a job! The women at the You Cheat We Eat PI agency were always getting into something. It wasn't a quiet place. Then there were the uncles. They were army buddies of Hailey's dad, Pops. Being retired never stopped them from jumping in to protect their "family". Actually, Wally never did retire. I liked seeing what he really did. We knew he had connections because of how he always checked out anybody new to his family but I didn't expect this!

I loved that Wally knew Chrissie was "the one". He just had to get her to see that. Easy!? Not so much. Chrissie was very private and kept to herself because of her past. But when her past finds her, Wally was very, very protective of her. I loved how all the uncles didn't hesitate to help Wally protect Chrissie.

I love this group - especially the girlfriends and how they were always there for each other. It was wonderful how they accepted Crissie as one of them so easily.

I was so happy to get a copy of A Christmas for Chrissie in exchange for my honest thoughts. I highly recommend this amusing seasoned romance. Really you should read the whole series! They are wonderful romantic comedies full of suspense.

It’s game on for these frenemies to lovers leading up to the best Christmas ever

A Christmas For Chrissie: a later in life romantic comedy (Love Will OUT Series Book 5) by D. E. Haggerty is an absolute romantic comedy gem with the added bonus of a Christmas setting that will make you laugh out loud. Any fan of this series will adore that Wally is not only meeting his match, but also finally found his lady love. Exasperated amusement is the entertainment here along with the crazy, zaney Love Will OUT series cast of characters. Wally is all in for Chrissie and all her attempts to keep her walls solidly in place, while Chrissie tries not to be amused (just exasperated) with the all the girls. It's a losing battle for Chrissie and Wally just embraces it all, determined to make her his. Despite Chrissie’s inner dialogue (hilarious!) and determination to fight Wally’s every move, she pokes the dragon consistently and the dragon responds with charm, heat and heart.
Sprinkled amidst all the comedy is a bit of suspense and unknowns. Chrissie, much to Wally's dismay, is a mystery and he is forced to tiptoe around Chrissie's mysterious background. To say she’s prickly and secretive about herself, is kind of an understatement. But habits are hard to break and if anyone can understand, it’s Wally. Stuff happens and things heat up creating an action-packed plot of the romantic and suspenseful variety. I just love how it all comes together.
Overall, this author always creates characters I absolutely adore and never fails to make me laugh. And not just laugh, but it's laughter that's long and oftentimes loud (which makes it really hard to pretend like I’m actually working)! There's always a great cast of characters that endear, exasperate but ultimately adore and support one another giving a family feel to a group of really good friends. Best of all, Wally gives Chrissie a Christmas and Chrissie worthy HEA that is heartfelt, heartwarming and utterly Wally-charming; because everyone deserves to be happy and in love, even later in life and especially at Christmas.

The men know how to go after what they want. In a nice way, of course. The uncles are fun, silly and frustrating most of the time but extremely protection of those they care about. They will put themselves in danger to save loved ones, not that they usually need to as they are so skilled in more than the bedroom. No one will ever doubt their strengths. The woman they love are true and strong, some know it and others just need to dig a little deeper to find themselves. Then it's game over. Hook, line and sinker,,, caught by the nice guy.

A delightful holiday read in a series that has gotten better with each book and in A Christmas for Chrissie, Wally (one of the uncles) finally finds his match in Chrissie who is the new office manager at You Cheat, We Eat PI agency. I loved the undeniable attraction and chemistry between Wally and Chrissie and enjoyed their dynamic with the other characters who enhance the plot and added to my reading pleasure. If you enjoy well-crafted romantic comedy that has all the feels and includes a touch of suspense, don't miss this book by gifted author D.E. Haggerty. Loved Wally’s story. He has always been a mystery and no one really knew what he did. But this book gives you an insight into Wally’s world and we see a completely different side to him including the caring romantic side which is brought out by Chrissie.
She is a mystery too and trying very hard to keep her past private, but Wally is determined to get to know her and find out what she is hiding.
They have a lot more in common than you would have thought and with their instant chemistry this makes for a brilliant story you won’t want to miss.

Loved it!!! Everything about this story had me falling in love. The fact that our couple are a bit older was wonderful. You don't get to enjoy that often enough.

I thought Max was a hot silver fox but I think Wally takes the cake for me! Swoon-worthy for sure.

D.E's writing style is great. There's always a bit of humour to balance out the really tense moments and just the right amount of intrigue to keep you hooked!

I absolutely loved this book! I’ve been waiting for it forever and I couldn’t wait to gobble it up like thanksgiving dinner! Wally and Chrissie were so cute together! I loved how she meant everything to him and I loved watching her fall 😂. Truly I couldn’t have laughed harder, especially at Suzie and her antics. Reading this book made me realize how much I missed seeing the gang and it felt so good to catch up with them again and to laugh along with them. It was extremely funny to see Valerie constantly chase Barney and Suzie’s mom 😂…. Lenny was also batting 1000….very interesting that he had his eye on Lexi!! I cannot wait for that story to break!!! Haggerty truly is a wonder with words as she has kept me entertained with these books. If you’ve haven’t read them you truly should! The chemistry in this book was smokin hot and the backstory was beyond amazing! We got to see a little bit more into the shadow world that Wally dwelled in and the tactics he put forth to keep his friends and family safe. I do enjoy how everyone makes their cameo appearances and naturally sticks around all book long and we get to have one constant update on past couples! There are multiple buns in the oven and I must say I cannot wait until these kiddos pop out into the world! They’re going to have one crazy bunch of extended family to take care of them! 😂🤣 this grumpy bear 🐻 wholeheartedly gave this book 10 cosmic stars 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 because this series is so very good and it’s still ongoing!! Haggerty has done an amazing job with this!

There is something about D E Haggerty's books that make me smile.

Chrissie is working for You Cheat, We Eat PI firm, but the Uncles know that there is more to her that meets the eye. Wally, a confirmed bachelor and one of the Uncles, is falling hard and fast for her. But first, Chrissie must overcome her past so she can have a future with Wally.

Great read. It is enjoyable to read stories that include mature heros and heroines.

I love this "Love will out" series and I am delighted to know that there is another one to come. Although these books are standalone, much more enjoyment will be gained from reading the series in sequence.

When Chrissie Linberg came to Wisconsin to work for the "You Cheat We Eat" PI agency everyone knew that she had a past, a past that she wouldn't reveal to anyone.

Hailey and Suzie were partners in the PI agency, best friend Phoebe worked for them. The girls were a close knit group and hung out at McGraw's bar which was owned by Hayley's father, Pops to all of them.

The uncles also hung out at the bar, they weren't really uncles but Pop's highly trained ex military buddies….except one, Wally, who was still doing undercover work which no one spoke about.

Long term bachelor Wally was attracted to Chrissie from when he first saw her but he didn't like mysteries, he used his skills to do a search on her but came up blank.

Although there is a serious side to this story when it becomes clear that Chrissie's life is in danger and Wally and the uncles were determined to protect her, the overriding theme of this book is the fun that runs through every page, the hilarious banter between the girls and the uncles, the bets on anything and everything, the spy themed Christmas cracker jokes at the start of each chapter.

D.E.Heggarty has created wonderful characters and the blossoming romance between persistent Wally and reluctant, feisty Chrissie is brilliant.

It's my favorite day of the year. It's release day 🥳🥳 The perfect moment to share my favorite text exchange between Chrissie and Wally. It's a bit naughty - just like Wally. Full disclosure - it's their own text exchange 😮

Wally: You can ignore me all you want today, but it doesn’t change a thing. This is happening.
Chrissie: This? Whatever do you mean?
Wally: Don’t poke the dragon.
Chrissie: *Scratches head* I thought you were the one to do the poking.
Wally: Angel, when the time is right, I’ll be glad to show you how hard I can poke.

This book is a simple must-read for fans of this series. Here, Chrissie and Wally get their own story, and fans who love this series will be desperate to read this book. Chrissie is an incredible female lead character. There are few strong and confident women who can stand on their own in literature. Such a powerful female lead could be inspiring to younger women.

There were many times in the book this reader simply cheered when Chrissie took command of a situation that typically requires a man. My issue with this book is with Wally. One would think reading how he treats this powerful woman that this book is set in 1821, not 2021. The caveman thing may work for some but personally, it offends me to the core. Fred Flintstone and Ralph Kramden shouldn't be guidelines for romantic leads. Many was the time I would have preferred Chrissie use her 9mm to answer Wally.

Another book that will fulfill the needs of fans for this series. If you are a fan of Neanderthal men as your ideal man, then this book is for you. Excellent spy action in this novel that will be enjoyed by fans of that aspect.

Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My thoughts are honest and all my own.

A great Christmas story! It’s wonderful to have a love story about people who aren’t 20-somethings anymore. Chrissie had quite a history and a lot of baggage. Wally was almost unbelievably sweet and supportive and strong and HOT! I was touched by Wally and how he walked the line between protective and too pushy but never gave up on what he wanted. I felt for Chrissie - coming in from the cold, so to speak, of no family, no friends and isolation and being dragged into a family of misfits, willy-nilly, and learning to trust in a family made, not born. A lovely story with laughs and tears and over-flowing feelings.

Fun, Exciting, Romance with a Bit of Mystery and Humor!

This book takes us back to the Love will OUT series, and although it can be read as a standalone (you catch up after the first couple of chapters), the characters from all of the other books and their backstories are so wonderful you will want to read them in order (and it is easy if you have KU). I loved that the mysterious Uncle Wally finally got his tale and and Chrissie was his perfect match. They were perfect together and of course the group of friends supporting them were a riot but also the family they needed. There are corny jokes to start every chapter and a mystery to keep the pages turning. I couldn't put it down, and can't wait for Valerie's story.

If you need a book that will make you chuckle yet keep you on the edge of your seat with adventure, then this is the book to check out. This series is fantastic because it features a group of "older" men (50's) that served in the military together and have the skills to keep their women safe, perhaps to their detriment as well since women aren't fragile creatures, but what woman doesn't like having a man look out for her? I know I don't mind my spouse taking care of me even though I am perfectly capable.

Chrissie has a background that would rival any of the men, but when a piece of her past rears its ugly head it brings Wally even closer to protect her from those issues. I love how Wally falls for her right away and Chrissie puts up a fight to keep him at arm's length. Granted, she hasn't had the best past, but at some point, you have to move forward and leave the past in the past. I love that she doesn't let him leave her out of the plans and while it might have gone against his desires to keep her safe, she can definitely keep up with the best of them.

This story is sweet, steamy, and amusing. The pranks, the jokes, the interactions between the characters, all of these make for a fantastic read. There is even a sweet ending.

We give this book 5 paws up.

If you’ve read the other books in this series this is a good next installment. Every chapter begins with a “dad” joke.

This time the story involves Chrissie and Wally. And they have secrets. I was somewhat disappointed with Chrissie’s lack of willpower when it came to Wally. There are things I’m not familiar with when it comes to her line of work but some of the events seemed a little far fetched.

The cast of characters is wonderful and I love how the author sets up the next story or two.

WALLY HELPS CHRISSIE OVERCOME HER PAST PROBLEMS

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review.

Wally is one of the uncles to Hailey and Army brother to Max, Pops – Hailey’s father. Chrissie is Hailey’s receptionist and an unknown to Wally who does background checks on anyone entering Hailey’s orbit. He falls for Chrissie and their secrets keep them apart. I love the Wally’s tenacity as he pursues Chrissie and I love Chrissie’s need to be her own woman and stick to the things she’s learned. This story is wonderful in many ways. Well told.

I adore the Love Will Out series! This addition did NOT disappoint! It was fun to revisit this lovely, quirky group of characters-the Uncles, the best girlfriends and the protective significant others. Wally and Chrissie’s story has the snarky dialogue and sometimes hysterical pranks and prat falls I’ve come to expect, but as always, an intriguing, always dangerous plot. Well suited for a fun, satisfying holiday read!

YAY! Wally gets his own story too...
And who better for the misterious Wally than a mistery of a woman.
Chrissie just wants to start over and not talk about her past, but the uncle will not let it slide so he tries to do his thing but fails...
What he can't fail at is protecting her, since he finds more than he bargained for when his feelings are uncovered.
Loved, loved, loved this book, as all the others in this series so far. And the uncles having their HEAs too is the cherry on top for me.
Can't recommend this enough, with all the pranks, protectiveness, and raw chemistry going around.
I received a free ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Wally has been my favorite of the "brothers" since the start of the series and I'm glad to finally get to read his story.
Chrissie was introduced in an earlier book when Suzie leaves their PI business to start her craft beer business.  They hired Chrissie as the receptionist/assistant, and from the start it's obvious she has her own secrets to keep.  But this is a group willing to accept her despite her secret background...all except Wally. Due to his secret government connections, he's been able to run background checks on every new employee,  but Chrissie shows up clean...too clean. Unable to let it go or admit his growing attraction to her despite her secrets,  he keeps pushing.  But he's met his match with Chrissie. Until a ghost from her past reappears seeking vengeance and she's forced to admit she needs his help.
I love this series and can't wait to find out what happens next... maybe with funny man Barney and Valerie. The only complaint I have is that the last two books feature men my father's age and I have a bit of a cringe at the bedroom scenes,  no fault of the author.

Eternal bachelor Wally gets his HEA in this story because once he sees Chrissy, he’s a goner. Of course she doesn’t make it easy for him but a good hard chase is what Wally needs and Chrissy doesn’t know it, but Wally and the gang are exactly what she needs. There is a bit of mystery, a couple of pregnancies, a douchebag ex, and all your favourite chapters from the series. There is also my favourite scene of the book which is the Christmas shopping trip; where was Chrissy when I worked in retail during Christmas lunacy?

Another fabulous more mature couple find love in this one. The recently recruited Chrissie and Wally both have a secret government past. When Chrissie's crazy ex resurfaces, Wally plus his other buddies all rally to protect her. This odd collection of characters work so well together. Looking forward to the next instalment. This was my favorite book in this series so far. Of course I was highly invested in the “uncles” since book one, but Wally was always my favorite. He is sweet, mysterious, handsome, and in great shape. I was super happy that he got to have his own book. So I may have gone into this read with a slight bias and high expectations, but this book did not disappoint.
Chrissie is exactly the type of heroine I like to read about also. She is tough as nails and fiercely independent, but isn’t so walled off that she didn’t succumb to Wally’s charm.
Their relationship did blast off a warp speed—no slow burn here. But it seemed to work for them. I read a lot of over 40 romance, and this is definitely one of my favorites. 4.5 stars.

Always Beer, Laughs and Super-Secret Romance.

Annnnnd I’m back with the PI team from You Cheat, We Eat and the rowdy and nosey-as-all-hell-former-Army-bar-flies from McGraw’s Pub. With this fifth book in the series, I’ve read them all in order and have absolutely LOVED the growing size of the character pool and the dynamics between the groups of friends that a regard themselves as family. Each book does stand-a-lone on it’s own merit, but I have to say it’s better to read them in numerical order.

Termed a later-in-life comedy romance with a slice of suspense, A CHRISTMAS FOR CHRISSIE is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed. The humorous behaviour was totally over the top and it was written to be, while the suspense was enough to keep me interested. I loved the spy themed ‘dad jokes’ at the beginning of each chapter and the dual first-person POV is my absolute favourite. There is nothing better than seemingly being in the head of the character.

It was so satisfying to see Wally find someone with just as many secrets as him, just as many skills and just as strong of a personality. He’s been an enigma from the start, the man with ‘contacts’ and who can find out more information about anyone than even Aiden (A HERO FOR HAILEY) a police detective. At 59, and as fit and sexy AF, Wally find found himself ensnared by Chrissie who hadn’t even cast a net.

Christina Lindberg walked into this series at the end of the previous book, A FOX FOR FAITH, and she’s got a past that Wally wasn’t able to find out about. He was already enamoured, but hitting a brick wall had him all kinds of agog and it was fun to see this older-alpha-protector finally being brought to his knees (so to speak!) was fun not only for me, but his fellow army buddy and the women in this group.

I think the best character of all was what I would call ‘The-Family-Group-Dynamic’ It’s presence was strong, it’s love unconditional, it was as annoying as a little brother, as bossy as a big sister, and it shrouded our characters in support and protection. Perfectly developed and written, Author D.E. Haggerty has nurtured it from the first book, A HERO FOR HAILEY, through to this A CHRISTMAS FOR CHRISSIE.

The pieces are in place for the last two books in the LOVE WILL OUT series and I’ll definitely be reading them! Awesome series in all, and yep, it’s 4.5 Stars from me! 😂💖

This book can be read as a standalone. I think it's much better to read the books of this series in order to enjoy the stories that build on each other, as well as getting to really know the quirky and interesting recurring characters. In this book, Chrissie (late 40's) is hired as the new office manager of the “You Cheat We Eat” detective agency. Chrissie is adamant that she doesn't want a relationship and keeps her background private. She's welcomed into the circle of funny and protective characters that use McGraw's Pub as their home base. Sparks fly between Chrissie and Woody, the spymaster of the group of silver fox, ex-soldiers who hang out at McGraw’s Pub. Both Chrissie and Woody have crazy secret agent skills that are a perfect match. Her past is eventually revealed and faced down, as her walls come down and their relationship grows. This book has everything from laugh-out-loud humor, suspense, close friendships, and hot times finishing with a satisfying HEA. Recommended highly! Another winner in this series! I couldn't put this book down. I've been eagerly awaiting Wally's story. It didn't disappoint! It blew my expectations. I couldn't have picked a better woman for Wally than Chrissie. She is his match in every way. Wally sure has his work cut out for him with Chrissie. Her past has left her putting up walls, but Wally is up to the challenge of scaling those walls. I loved catching up with the characters from the previous books. I love that this wonderful group keeps expanding. One of my favorite parts of the book was the humor. This book had me laughing and chuckling through out. This crazy fun group will suck you in and make you wish you were part of them. I really love that this book took place during the holiday season. For me it just gave it an added punch. One of my absolute favorite parts is the magical Christmas Wally creates for Chrissie. I highly recommend this book!!
