This book has long been waited for and anticipated, and it has proven to be very well worth the wait, as it is captivating in that it takes us through the life of one of the most favourite characters in the series Riders of Fire, mage Giddi. Any reader who loves the Riders of Fire and those who love tales about dragons will definitely not want to miss reading this excellent book. Ms. Mueller has given us a masterpiece which kept me reading all through the night as I was so captivated, yet did not want the book to end. Master Giddi, is a young but most powerful mage, in fact he is the only dragon mage, able to mind-meld with all dragons so he rose quickly through the ranks till he became the master mage head of the mages council but obviously there were those who envied him, namely another mage called Starrus. Giddi's life is continuously being harassed by Starrus who took from him all those he loved, and tried to turn Mazyka the new mage on the scene against him before they'd even met. His lies nearly cost Giddi and so many more people their lives. Turns out that Mazyka was as powerful as Giddi, but untrained she was a danger to everyone. I loved that we got to see the romance between Giddi and Mazyka grow and blossom even though so many tried to put spokes in the wheels so to speak, and most of all I loved to read about Zens background story even though his appearance on the scene brings with it such evil to Dragon's Hold. This is a tale of courage, love, betrayal, edge of the seat fear and sorrow at loss of both humans and dragons but most of all it is a magical tale of untamed power which is a beauty to behold!
How wonderful it was to rekindle my love for these amazing characters in this book, Yanir, Anakishka, the amazing dragons Syan, Zaarusha and Kevin. Although Starrus reared his very ugly head again, he's a villain I love to hate. There are no bounds to what Starrus will do, no depth he will not plunge into to achieve his goal of becoming the head of the Mage council and of course, his ultimate goal is to get rid of Giddi. He's tried many a time, not overtly and visibly, always clandestinely and he sinks to new lows in this book!
This book centres around Giddi and it was truly awesome to see the growth in Giddi, to see him achieve control of his raw power. He's such a delightfully perfect character. Caring, compationate, fair and exceptionally likeable, achieving recognition and heights he never dreamed he could. But his adventures have only just begun. Enter Mazyka, now she's a terrific character. Hiding her talent at the bequest of her mother, she feels stifled and knows she needs to spread her wings. But she lands up in Starrus' clutches, duped naively into believing Giddi is an evil murderer. When she sees the light, boy do the sparks fly! The romance between Giddi and Mazyka is slow to gain traction but the undercurrent makes the result all the more worthwhile!
Dear heavens did my heart go out to Zens! Horrible horrible parents, doing horrible horrible experiments is bad enough, but on their own child? Zens was a gentle, non violent sweet child, until he was not... even though he resorts to despicable means, I still found a lot of sympathy for him, that's how incredibly creative and realistic Eileen describes his upbringing and, shall we just say, evolution? Tragic, with consequences that have the potential to destroy realms.
This book builds superbly on the prior books in the series, shows each characters thought, motive and action in a way that takes one on an unparalleled journey with all of them, dragons included. There were some beautiful tender scenes and some scenes and events that shattered me, I cried, I laughed, I despaired, I ranted, I shook my head, I yelled. I guarantee you won't be able to put it down, I certainly couldn't and even by the end of the book I wanted more! More of Giddi, more of Mazyka, more of this incredible world and I even wanted more of Starrus and Zens! I honestly will be gnawing on my nails until the final book in this majestic series is out
This book is mostly Giddi's story of growing up and learning about his mage powers. Starrus is still as awful as ever and I really hope he gets what he deserves sooner rather than later. I'm really interested in Mazyka's future and the limit to her mage powers. Zens' chapters confused me at first but I'm sure they will be especially interesting for anyone who has read Mueller's first series.
This book does cover a large amount of time and has time skips and pov changes without warning, but you get used to it. And be ready for a cliffhanger!
TW: child abuse, child murder/death CW: brief description of brothel activities, age gap romance. Definitely upper YA even though the cover makes it seem more innocent.
A truly fascinating read. We follow Giddi from a young lad, to his mage training, his battle to survive many life threatening situations his training puts him in, his becoming a Master Mage, until his hand fasting with the love of his life, Mazyka, the only mage that may be more powerful than him, but certainly more beautiful. Intertwined with his story, is also Mazyka’s story, her battle with her powers and her misplaced alliances. And both, their loss of family. In the background, we read of the conflict he has with Mage Starrus, and all his attempts to undermine Giddi, and even kill him. Also the thread of Zens as he attempts to start his evil rule, his production of Tharuks and his entrance into Dragons Realm. A long read, but super captivating.
I will NEVER, EVER get enough of Eileen Mueller’s Dragons’ Realm books!
With each book Mueller is able to introduce us to new and amazing characters that you cannot help but Love and Adore. They beg you to root for them, cry for them, hope for them, and despair for them through all their trials, tribulations, and fierce battles physically and mentally. But she is also a master write of the truly evil and despicable. She is a genius at creating those characters that we absolutely love to hate and wish get their just desserts in the most epic fashions.
The Dragon’s Realm world Mueller has created is both extremely complex and exceptionally thoughout and realized. Her dragons and their bonds are perfect! Her story arcs filled with plots twists, political intrigue, and enough dragon fire, mage flame, and battles to keep you on the edge of your seat.
However one of my VERY FAVORITE aspects of Mueller’s stories is her ability to balance exceptional dragon story (or in this case Mage story) with beyond perfect romance. Each one of her books both themes are married in utter perfection.
Master Mage is NO EXCEPTION! In this story we follow Mage Giddi as he grows from a talented but lonely adolescent into the Master Mage we know him throughout the Riders of Fire series. We get to experience his despair as he has to come face to face with his father’s murder time and time again, feel his unwavering love for his friends (human and dragon alike) and discover the ferocity of his ever growing love for his Trainee Mazyka. All the while, the backdrop of Zens and his crazy and vicious creations lurks within the pages. This was one wild and heart-stopping whirlwind of a book!
My favorite character was Giddi. I loved everything about him. Mueller couldn’t have written him more perfectly. He was fiercely loyal, exceptionally brave, but also calm, understanding, and relatable. However, I have to say, my favorite aspect of him was his crazy eyebrows and all the mischievous eyebrow waggling he did. It gave his character a fun and mischievous undertone that I really appreciated.
All in all, Mueller is a master storyteller. Her dragons and stories are undeniably fabulous. If you love a great story, with crazy evil that both walks among the characters and lurks in the background, a hero and heroine that you can’t help but adore, love, and root for, amazing dragons that each have their own distinct and beautiful personalities, and perfectly sweet romance then you just have to read Master Mage!
Yes, this book is a Masterpiece with Heart and Soul! I could feel the heart and soul of the author as she wrote this book. And believe me this book is Epic! This story is magnificent and epic in scope. Dragon Master Giddi has many adventures but he is still somewhat headstrong and jumps into situations before he has worked out a strategy or figures out why. Therefore we see him still learning as a mage and young adult. I cheered, laughed and cried at the adventures, danger, mystery, unlikely friendships, hard choices made, conflict, jealousy, betrayals, naivety at times, impulsive actions and love. There are some really intense scenes in this story. A fascinating plot woven with skill and patience. This was a rich and satisfying escape from reality for me as I was transported into a world of magic, dragons and adventure. This is probably my favorite book of the year! I've tried to share with you my thoughts and love for this book without spoilers, which is very difficult to do, so I want to urge you all to read this amazing book and find out for yourself!!! "You Will Not Be Disappointed"! ...........
I really enjoy reading Giddi and Mazyka training and maturing and coping with loss, tragedy, and pain .
I do want to warn adults that this book like the previous one may not be completely appropriate for younger readers . There are scenes of violence and other behaviors that may be triggering. Likewise some of the relationship scenes are probably more appropriate for older readers...and at 67, I still found myself uncomfortable reading them . Please know the maturity level and vulnerability of readers before you recommend.
Overall I really enjoyed some parts, was bothered by the violence, treachery, and deaths in other parts and was personally embarrassed in other parts.
The book is good. Hopefully you will find you enjoy more of the book than you are less happy with.
Being the longest book in the series, so far, this story was jammed packed with many happenings and surprises! At this point, I know that the author is setting things up for the other series, but I'm glad that I decided to read this prequel series first. The characters are wonderful as ever and the plot was solid and intriguing. My only complaint would be the frequent time jumps in the beginning; at one point I lost of track the exact number of years that went by. Due to the page length compared to the other books in the series, I feel that it could've been split into two parts. Overall, this is just some minor criticism against a book in a series that's slowly becoming dear to my heart.
Fantastic, amazing and beautifully written storytelling at it’s best. To be thrown back into Dragons Realm and it’s wonderful characters including Giddi, Mazyka, Yanir and Anakisha is a joy. Introducing Mazyka and Giddi’s story, not to mention the dragons makes an intricate, interlocking and complex tale. Fast paced in a wonderful world this is emotional, sweet, hard, romantic and perfect.
I have received an ARC copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
Mister Giddi has grown up and returned to Spanglewood and clearing away storm damage of Montanara he meets a littling who was 10 summers old named Mazyka. Ms. Mueller has written an excellent book with dragons and magic with tragedy and happiness. I highly recommend that you read this book which is the fourth book In Riders of Fire Dragon Masters Series. It's a great book in a great series...
Adventure! Experience Dragon's Realm from Giddi's viewpoint as he grows up from a wild teen mage to Master Mage as an adult. In this wonderful, entertaining, easy to read story with great characters. Unpredictable is what you get when you combine Giddi and Mazyka together in this interesting tale.
I love part of the story, but this series is all over the place. Honestly I gritting my teeth trying to get this. Not liking different worlds. Feel like you dropped the ball on different characters. A lot of lose ends. I will read the whole series to see if you can pick it up. I would not recommend this series so far.
Eileen Mueller has written a thoughtful and exciting book about Video that covers his life from when he meets ten year old girl until they are married. She also covers how a major caddy is let into the world by Giddy on his honeymoon.
A truly amazing story! Full of action and incredible characters. Even has a flaming romance! Literally flaming! For those who love dragons and adventure! This book has it all!
Yet another amazing addition to the world of Dragon Realm! I love Giddi and Mazyka's story. I am getting to a point where this storyline makes me want to read Riders of Fire again. I am very much wanting more from Eileen.
Another amazing book by Eileen Mueller. I love how each book focuses on a different group while advancing the overall story . Still, lots of action with romance on the side.
An awesome magical adventure. Mages, dragons and plenty of danger to keep you hooked. Strong intriguing characters that definitely make the story come alive. Don’t miss out.
I love this book and all the books in the series! Great characters, awesome story. I was up reading until late in the night. Action packed, magic, dragons, sea dragons, what more could you want!!! I can hardly wait for more!!!
