This day-by-day factual and complete account of events throughout the coronavirus pandemic, written as it happened, gives incredible insight into what life was like during this tragic and historic pandemic in the United Kingdom and worldwide. It includes facts and figures, government initiatives, news events, moving individual accounts, and the horrific consequences, as they happened each day. There is also a daily, personal slant on what life was like for the author and his family during what threatened to be an apocalyptic event. Not including the preamble, the diary covers 491 days, beginning in earnest on 16th March 2020 until Freedom Day on 19th July 2021. It has over 1600 pages, over half a million words with every significant event covered and some strange and bizarre facts you were probably unaware of. It reveals all humanity in its idiocy, compassion, and brilliance; the key elements, significant dates, statistics, human stories, tragedies, government strategies, the twists and turns, the humour and the obtuse. The coronavirus will define this generation and identify these times, like other rare global historical events such as the bubonic plague and the World Wars. This book is something to show your children and grandchildren when they ask you what it was like during the COVID years. It can also be used as a point of reference for historians, commentators, and educators. It is also merely for posterity and public interest. Were you alive? Do you recall it? Do you remember our Prime Minister almost died with Covid-19? Remember, murderers in jail being vaccinated weeks before the prison officers? The Queen saying ‘we’ll meet again’ during lockdown? Surely you recollect the EU conducting ‘an act of hostility’ towards the UK to get their hands on our vaccines? The thirty police officers fined for having a haircut, or the first man in the world to be vaccinated being called William Shakespeare from Stratford Upon Avon! The whole world was plunged into chaos, with death, suffering and economic disaster. How did we cope? How did all of this happen? According to Keith’s wife, Jackie, before we knew better, it was ‘all because a man ate a bat!
Keith Wright is himself a policeman and has been since the age of sixteen. His experience clearly shows in his writing which is as accurate and believable as it is exciting. He avoids the trap some professionals fall into by including too much technical and in-house information, instead the onus is always on the story.
This book is a very detailed diary of a man experiences of 491 days of his life and what happened day by day in the Uk when COVID-19 first happened. He wrote about the lockdowns and what his Country was going through day by day
Thank you to the author for a #gifted #ebook in exchange for an honest review
I will start by saying I found this book triggering and should probably have a TRIGGER WARNING
I found that I had to dip in and out as there were a number of memories that resurfaced for me, and I got very emotional. So, no doubt there may be a few questions regarding a TW, but I don’t doubt for a second that everyone has been affected by COVID-19, in one way or another. I wasn’t sure how I would feel reading a book solely focused on the timeline and effects that Coronavirus has brought upon the UK and the world, but here we are.
This diary is split into three parts covering different timelines in the last 18 months. I have only read part 1 which is from the start of 2020 until Sept 2020. I have not read the entire book (as it spans over nearly 18 months and is over 1600 pages) it will take some time to read
I really liked the authors dedication, and introduction into the diary, as well as the glossary and source index at the end of the book these are really important and helpful to have. I find that the information provided is very interesting and fascinating although disturbing. I agree with the authors assessment that this will be an interesting and enlightening piece to pass down through generations, as well as being used by historians to look back on a pandemic no one thought they would see in their lifetime. I find that there is information in this diary that not everyone is aware of, I found myself being educated whilst reading, I was unaware Iran released 85,000 prisoners in a bid to calm the spread in their country
I feel that the author has tried to add rare bouts of humour into the diary to make it not feel as gloomy as the reality of COVID-19 and I will admit having these moments of respite with a little chuckle is an added bonus to this book. Plus, I really liked the inclusion of the quote of the day, I found this very interesting and some quotes I had never heard before so was enlightening too. I would recommend to anyone that reads this book to take their time and not try to read at once as it is a very impactful read
The road to Freedom Day. The complete diary and events of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before you start be sure to know this is an extremely chunky read that will get you emotional and give you endless amount of knowledge you was unaware of.
To begin with I loved knowing about the author it made this read more personal and human. Each page gave me something I wasn’t aware of. This book will be one in history that our children’s children will read and be amazed by. I especially liked the authors notes as I found myself noting certain points along the way from my own personal opinions.
The quotes throughout were great to take note of. It was a massive flashback thinking back on dates that hold most memories like Boris Johnson’s television updates and when the schools first initially closed and the announcement on who was a key worker etc.
For me the facts and figures were really interesting as I love numbers and statistics. I’m really hoping there will be a book 2 and the world as it is now is still more chaotic than ever.
CORONAVIRUS 2020 VISION The Road To Freedom Day by Keith Wright ⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s my turn as part of the Blog Tour on behalf of Love Books Tours. Thank you for my copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect with this book. A text book? Journal? It’s one man’s detailed diary of 491 days of the pandemic, right from day one. His experiences of COVID-19, government plans, lockdowns, and harrowing personal accounts of the human cost.
In the years to come, when some of the finer details become blurred, this book will stand as a record of how the country handled COVID, making it a book you can revisit again and again. This is something to show your kids and grandkids when they ask about covid.
I found this book a bit hard going if I’m honest. I know it is a diary of the writers thoughts and the events of the last year but there wasn’t enough of the writers thoughts for my liking. I think the facts & figures featured daily would have been better as a weekly round-up as this took up so much space in the book, I have to admit to skimming past these bits in the end. .l The weekly quiz that the family enjoyed were something many friends & families got involved in, so this was good to read about as well as the sports/exercise the couple tried (especially the yoga!).
Maybe it was a bit too soon to be reliving this time period, still raw and devastating for some which is the reason I’m only giving 3 stars.
This is an interesting book documenting the global pandemic. I am reading part one which is a massive 550 pages.
I like the way that the author has written the book with daily stats, press briefings, his family's situation and a quote of the day. Its strange to look back and think how many of us probably had similar thoughts and feelings as we tried to navigate through a pandemic.
Because of the type of book it is I haven't finished reading it as I'm dipping in and out of it. I'm sure in the future this will be a book that many will read to either remember what we went through or to learn about it.
I know, I know….we’re still dealing with the aftermath of Coronavirus but I couldn’t turn this down.
I haven’t finished all of this yet as it is a book I need to be in the mood for. But what I have read is great and I kind of wish I thought of writing a diary during this time.
It’s amazing to see someone else’s experience of the same thing. What I’ve read so far is well informed, with great twists of humour.
Definitely give this a try if you are after a humorous non fiction.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this in return for an honest review.
I actually found this fascinating to read. It is an extremely detailed day to day account from when the pandemic hit, to how things progressed rapidly interspersed with factual information. The authors own personal experiences during lockdown added a lightheartedness to what is in effect a serious tome. Parts of it felt like a school history lesson & I found myself being re-educated, becoming less ignorant of what has been going on around us this past few years.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book & well be reading the other two volumes that follow on.
Many thanks to Love Books Tours for my tour spot & my gifted copy.
