Claire Leggett has loved dragons, magic and everything fantastical since she read The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton. As a child she used to sneak to the bottom of the garden in the hope of finding fairies. Alas she never found any, so she brought them alive in her own imagination.
Her stories are full of magic, adventure and escape.
When Claire’s not writing she can be found creating her own handmade journals, swinging on a sidecar, or in the garden attempting to grow something other than weeds.
Claire lives in Western Australia with her husband, who loves even her most annoying quirks, and is currently learning how to crochet.
Continuing from the previous novel, this focuses on Geriel, a healer, but has not reached her full potential. Geriel has fears and does not quite understand her abilities as a healer and goes to the dragons to learn more. That is not the only reason though. Her tribe has been infected with a disease that is contagious and kills. She needs to find a cure to save her people and she puts much pressure on herself. But there is more than just finding a cure, for the emperor plots and wants to destroy the Rhoran people by any means necessary. Gerial joins with others on a quest to find a cure and to gather allies against the emperor. But it is a race against time for the enemy is closing in on them. Gerial works to become stronger with her healing abilities, for she needs to believe in herself and look to succeed, not fail, which is challenging for her. Will it be enough to save her people and gather allies before the emperor destroys them all?

Geirel was a healer, but had difficulty harnessing her power. Jie was a warrior from another tribe. The current ruler had all the tribes fighting each other and had tried to kill off her tribe by sending a disease into it called Trader Curse. Geirel is on a quest to find a cure for the Trader Curse and return home to heal the tribes. Her journey group includes the real ruler Bao, Jie, Kew a dragon, and various others that come and go. Her healing power grows and becomes a way for the various tribes to start working together to overthrow the current bad guy ruler. The characters are terrific, the various locales were vivid and unique. The romance was slow growing, but constant. The tension and suspense of the battles and confrontations were on-the-edge-of-your-seat events. Love how the dragon communicated and surprised people. She was a favorite of the book. On the another book by this author.

The first book introduced us to gifted woman who is an assassin and the state princess. Her country is reminiscent of ancient China. She becomes the mother of a clan who live on the steppes, who appeared to be based on the horse clans of history. Her younger adopted sister is a healer and this is her story as well as the continuation of the original book. The younger woman has the gift of healing, but she has no self confidence in her gift or her self. She continues to sabotage herself through her ineptitude and hurts herself with guilt, etc. The story is about the trip she undertakes to save her tribe during a terrible plague. Her journey results in more confidence, personal growth and her own love story. It is a brave new series and I love it.
