After a two-decade marriage ends with my husband’s disappearance, I’m left to did he run off with another woman? Or is he dead?
And which one is worse?
Before I can answer that, I turn into a chicken. A real one. The kind that fears KFC.
I want nothing to do with Marshmallow’s magic community, but somehow, I keep getting pulled into its drama.
There are only two choices—keep hiding from the new reality of my life, or embrace the weird, the magic, and the feathers.
It’s taken forty-three years for me to become the person I was always meant to be. Chicken shifter, witch, or whatever the new me is, I’m going to rock it. Anyone who doesn’t like it can cluck off.
USA Today Bestselling Author Keira Blackwood writes exciting paranormal romance and romantic urban fantasy with all the snort laughs and all the feels.
I borrowed this book as a box set from Kindle Unlimited, I am reviewing each book as I read it.
If you haven't read the previous books in this series, I suggest going back and doing so. There are things that carry over that enhance the story lines.
At the end of the last book, Brianna, still proclaiming she's not a witch and not part of the coven turns into a chicken and runs off. The full scenario of how she came to be in that state is revealed in beginning of this book.
This book opens with Brianna at the restaurant, dealing with an unruly child then hiding in a supply closet when more things go wrong. Nancy, her father's right-hand person seeks her out for help getting things under control. The dishwasher is acting possessed, when in actuality it had be loaded with the wrong soap and was spewing water and bubbles everywhere as it danced across the kitchen with mechanical roars. While Brianna gets the power cut, Nancy clears the restaurant of staff and patrons. They sit and have something to eat discussing what to do next. Brianna sends Nancy home, but she is going to call their repair person as well. Brianna decides she needs to take a walk before doing the cleanup. That's when she ends up a chicken...
Turning back to normal, yet still in denial about the whole magic thing, Brianna slips into her bedroom through the window to avoid being seen in her current state. She falls asleep and when she wakes it's dark, she slept the afternoon away and still has to clean up the restaurant.
We now learn what circumstances Brianna left when she came to Marshmallow to care for her father and keep his restaurant running. Her father's caregiver offers her dinner before she heads out, but she declines. She has to walk since her car is still at the restaurant.
Having Molly tell her she could help her dad with magic totally freaks Brianna out. She flees into the mess of the restaurant and cleans with a frenzy.
Just as she finishes, Nancy calls to tell her Mr. Fixel is on his way. When he arrives, Brianna gets a shock. It appears Mr. Fixel is her husband Davey. However, he has no memory of her.
This is the beginning of an interesting relationship. Things begin to happen quickly from here. From her father's illness to new magical creatures to learn about and get rid of. Then there's Briana's stubborn refusal to accept anything magical, including herself.
A fun read with many twists and a few surprises as well. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Oh goodness, the term the book starts out with makes sense! Especially when you realize what it is. Who are Nancy and Brianna? Where do they work? What happens with the fortune ball had me laughing so hard I cried! Oh goodness, I did not expect to read what I did in the kitchen! Denial ain't just a river in Egypt with Brianna in this book! Who are Molly and Remedy? Who is Jen and what happens to Brianna when she goes for a walk to clear her head? What do we learn about Jen, Molly, and Remedy? Who is Davey? What do we learn about him? Oh, the southern phrases or sayings that the fortune ball says and the times that they are said are so fun! The librarian was neat! Brianna's interactions with Fernando and Baku were fun. Good grief, Brianna's life does a 180 degree turn! Will it ultimately be a good thing? It was fascinating learning about Davey. Be prepared for possible tissue needs at 85% of the way into the story. I needed them! Oh, I LOST IT at the very end! The last line got me! Read and see why!

Jen, Baku, Molly, Fernando, Remedy, Julian, Nancy, and others return in this book to help Brianna become the witch she is meant to be, It would be most enjoyable to start with Book 1 and continue with Book 2 before starting this book. There is a lot of character development and world-building. in addition to a chicken/turkey shifter/whatever. Molly cures Brianna's dad of the paranormal malady, Brianna meets her husband, Davey, though he's changed for the better after being struck by lightning. There is a lot of introspection, self-doubt, and relationship tension as she remembers the "bad" husband who deserted her, despite him being seemingly changed. There are supernatural dangers that take the whole coven plus their significant others to vanquish. It is an engaging read as the coven works together, supporting each other with true friendship, to overcome deadly threats.
Life isn't so great in Marshmallow. Magic she doesn't want to admit (when she turns into a chicken it's hard to ignore). The ladies in the coven are pretty good and very loyal. Don't know what she'd do without them. Her missing or is it dead husband isn't helping her find a new life.
Surprises just keep coming and most aren't the good kind. Ever heard of a familiar? Brianna has one--sort of, kind of, maybe. Not like any you have ever seen or heard of but comes in handy. Can't tell you much without spoiling and not gonna do that.
Never a dull page or person. Unusual magic and magical beings not usually the good kind. You'll enjoy the book by reading the series in order more than alone. I do know it will keep you turning pages.
Brianna came to Marshmellow to help her I'll father
Brianna came to help her father after her husband dissapeared from her life. Molly was her friend but after Brianna was kidnapped by vampires she wanted nothing to do with magic. Brianna`s shocked to see her husband come to the restaurant to fix the broke dishwasher. Her husband named Davy doesn't really remember her or how he got to Marshmallow other than he was struck by lightning. Molly says she can heal Brianna's dad but at what cost. Can Brianna embrace magic can she embrace a relationship with Davy? I highly recommend this book and series.
Maybe 2.25 stars. It was just ok. Briana was boring and emo the whole way through. Definitely my least favorite book in the series. Besides protesting that she "was NOT a witch!" and "I'm not in your coven!" throughout even when she was transformed into a chicken *insert eye roll"
Also this series being on a different character each book is confusing. I never remember what is going on with the others and their relationships or even getting to know them better. I don't think I will be continuing this series, sadly. I was excited about it at the beginning because we finally have "older" MC's. Ah well. It was nice while it lasted.
I loved the storyline. The newest Major character was a little negative at times, but she had been through a lot in a earlier book. She had been tortured by vampires, then her father had fallen mysteriously ill. Come to find out her husband had been missing for over a year. So, she was understandably a bit of a wreck. Still, she could have been more appreciative of Fernando's help earlier in the book. Listen to me, I so get into the characters and the story. But I truly loved this book. The pace was just right and it had a terrific ending.
Brianna moved back to Marshmallow to help at his restaurant when her father became ill. What she didn't expect was to be drawn into the world of magic, to be part of a witch coven or that she would shift into a chicken. Quirky, compelling, and well written characters who try to make the best of their powers and protect the people of their community. Magical mayhem and surprising twists in the plot of this amusing, must read book.
I chanced on this series, and rapidly read all that are currently available. I have written down the date and title for the next one, so I don’t miss it. Each main character is quite different from the others, and interesting in their own right. There is a fascinating town setting which gradually unfolds, and the characters grow and change in their interactions. The writing is very imaginative. I think this is a series well worth reading.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters have been introduced in previous books, but the book is still enjoyable if read alone. The plot and subplots move quickly and the conversations flow naturally. The is humor mixed in, making this an enjoyable read. I look forward to the next book.
Couldn't put it down I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. With the add it action, adventure, humor, and intrigue made for a helluva read. Overall a great read. I can't wait to read Molly story next. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
What fun to read! Cute without being silly, fun without being juvenile. Blackwood takes us on her magical ride full of great characters, scenery that paints itself in your mind, and situations that even the nonmagicals (us) can find some kind of similarity in, even though we aren't magical ourselves. I love this genre, and Blackwood has a Five Star entry into the field with this series!
This is the weirdest story..it is very weird when a woman turns into a chicken then, when she is back to a woman she is running away at every excuse then being overly brave and running into danger. This story and main character is all over the place, like a kid with ADHD. Oddly enough, I kept reading! Go figure.
This book is filled with action, adventure, and intrigue. It's got an entertaining storyline. The interaction and chemistry between the characters of great. I can't wait for more from this author. I received this book 📚as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Couldn't put it down loved the characters and the storyline and can't wait to read Molly's story so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend it to everyone
Writing reviews on individual books in a series is really difficult. It's hard to come up with something new to say. What I can say is this, I love the books in this series and I'm definitely sticking around for what's to come.
The coven is getting g bigger. Brianna is Liking after her father when she finds out her husband who went missing a year ago is Mr Fix All, well he looks like her husband expect he's got mussels, she also finds out that she's a witch!
I have to say that the only thing I DON'T love about this series is having to wait "forever" for the next book! The cast of characters just keeps growing and are definitely an eclectic group!
Absolutely wonderful read!!! The quirky Fernando is my favorite blue dude in these books. I’m so glad he’s found a friend! Looking forward to the rest of the adventures.
This is the third book in the Midlife Magic in Marshmallow series. Filled with action, adventure, and intrigue, It's got an entertaining storyline. The interaction and chemistry between the characters are great.
Their coven is coming together, and each has found their mate, husband r dream God.. more evils are around and the coven has to put everything into saving Marshmallow from demons..
After being kidnapped and abused by vampires, Brianna finds she can turn into different animals that she's eaten. She also finds her husband isn't dead like she thought. He has amnesia and shocking powers.
Brianna is the next one to come into her own & she does so kicking and screaming. Her midlife crisis happens so much your head spins trying to follow. Brianna is one tough cookie though and eventually she learns to trust again.
This book was a bit less awesome as the 1st 2 of the series for me, and as someone with Kinemortophobia it was hard to read. However I still loved the twists and turns. I wish we learned more about the toy ball AND Fernando!!!
The main character is a 43 year old woman who is a witch/shifter into a chicken, turkey, bear plus more Oh My. Her husband was dead or disappeared but turns up and this is a real paranormal soap opera funny mystery.
