He’s the Spare Heir of Bliss’s most famous jewelry shop...
Max Gregory’s family is best known for creating and displaying the world’s most cursed diamond ring, but here in the bridal capital of the world, Max is best known for having a cursed love life. Not that he believes in curses. Or he didn’t, until he met Merry.
She’s the daughter of a notorious jewel thief...
Merry Silver's parents have wreaked havoc on her life. After her last romantic disaster—thanks, Daddy—she’s fleeing the country for a chance at normal. But first, she has to avoid her favorite ex-boyfriend while she gets her mom married off. Again.
And they’re about to get a second chance at love...
Max was horrified when he discovered why Merry disappeared last year. Now she's back in Bliss for a wedding, and her father may be after his family’s most prized possession. But is it the diamond Max is worried about? Or is he afraid of losing the only woman who’s ever made him want to settle down?
Jamie Farrell writes humorous contemporary romance. She believes love and laughter are two of the most powerful forces in the universe.
A native Midwesterner, Jamie has lived in the South the majority of her adult life. When she's not writing, she and her military hero husband are busy raising three hilariously unpredictable children.
Merried is book five in the Misfit Brides series by Jamie Farrell. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by the author. I need to start this review by stating the fact that I read romance books, lots and lots of romance books. Sometimes they all tend to run together. Then, you come across that one that just stops you in your tracks. This book was sweet, quirky, unique, heart breaking, sexy, and so much more. I didn’t just love this book, I LOVED this book!
Meredith (Merry) Silver is in Bliss, Illinois for her mother’s wedding. This will be her mother’s seventh husband. All she has to do is get through this week. And then she will be leaving. Not only this town but the country. Merry is running away to France. It’s her last ditch effort to get away from the influence of her father’s chosen profession. You see, Merry’s father is Nicholas Raymond, jewel thief.
“Dating a jeweler was inviting Daddy to his own personal playground.”
Merry’s father was her mother’s first husband. She and her mother were not always as close as they are now. In fact, when she was in her early teens, she hated her mother because she took her away from her father. She didn’t understand back then the full scope of what her father did. But why did her mother have to choose Bliss for this wedding? Of all towns, Bliss is where the man she dated a year ago and who she left with no explanation, lives. He was the only man she had really ever cared for, who made her feel normal. But when she found out what he and his family did for a living, she had to leave. You see, his family owned a jewelry store.
“Max Gregory was dangerous. But only to Merry’s heart.”
Max Gregory had never really gotten over Merry. He had been falling for her. And then, one day, she was just gone. No forwarding address, phone disconnected. He was worried sick about her. And then he found out who her father was. One year later, she just appears in Bliss. Is this a second chance for them? Or is she here for some other reason? Maybe she’s working for her father? The jewelry store his family owns and where he works is famous for a very special diamond his grandfather designed, the Mrs. Claus diamond. Maybe Merry is planning to help her father steal it.
“He wanted her to remember who they’d been last year. He wanted her to let him in. He wanted her to be here for him. Not for her mother. Not because of her father. He wanted to strip her down to just her, to learn her, to know her, to be able to trust her.”
As Max and Merry try to find their way together, there is so much else going on. There is a crazy owl that keeps attacking Merry. Of course, her father shows up in town and she is convinced that he is there to steal the diamond. She has to protect Max’s store. But how? Merry is carrying the responsibility of both her parents on her shoulders. Of her father’s past sins and her mother’s endless string of husbands. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a heroine as much as I loved this woman. I just wanted to scoop her out of the book and hug her tight. All she wanted was a normal life with friends and love and maybe even the white picket fence and a couple of kids. But none of that is possible for her. Let’s not even get started on how Merry earns her living. She is brilliant. But she can’t tell anyone. She can’t share her success with anyone. It broke my heart.
“She didn’t connect with people. She didn’t get close. She didn’t let people in. But, she couldn’t get Max out.”
This book can easily be read as a stand alone but I want you to know that I have loved this whole series. What better way to get to know the other residents of Bliss so you’ll know who they are when they make appearances in this book. But you definitely don’t have to to enjoy this book. Jamie Farrell has hit a home run with this book. I won’t soon forget Merry and Max. They stole my heart. I hope they will steal yours as well.
“You made me happy. You made me believe. And if you can make someone like me believe love’s possible, then you can do anything.”
Loved this! Very funny, with some great secondary characters who are both quirky and treated with affection (LOVE the mom!). But also very heartwarming. The author has a nice way of capturing in a phrase or paragraph important emotional truths. Sweet and lighthearted, but not superficial, if that makes sense. Excellent comfort read. I definitely plan to read the rest of the series now!
WOW Great Job Jamie! LOVED this book your writing never stops amazing me. You really also need to write Phoebe Moon, Zack Diggory stories too so my grand kids can enjoy! Max & Merry are such a great match ( of course ) and I love how this all played out! A jeweler and a thief's daughter fight to find their own paths in life and hope they can find their way to each other ( if Max has his way ) If anyone can make the trip one wild fun laugh out loud and want to cry way its Jamie ! The town of Bliss is known for its weddings and it does not let you down, welcome to the crazy fun loyal town of Bliss you can not go wrong so come join the fun asap. I would like to say its worth staring at the 1st if you have not already for they all fit together so well .KEEP THEM COMING
MERRIED, the 5th book in Jamie Farrell's Misfit Brides of Bliss series is Max Gregory's story. Max's family owns the With This Ring jewelry store in Bliss. Max who found the Golden Bouquet and has been cursed with seven years of bad luck in love. Of course, Max says, Who cares if all his girlfriends leave him, that's just life... not a curse. Max doesn't believe in curses.
Merry Silver was the last woman to leave Max. Not because he's cursed, but because she's cursed with a family that is trouble... especially for someone in the jewelry business. The last place she wants to be is back in Bliss. Back in the town where Max lives so that she can relive her heartbreak every time she sees him. But her Mom is getting married. Again. And this time it simply must be in this lovely, romantic town that is completely focused on weddings. Nothing less will do when it's your seventh marriage.
As typical of Ms. Farrell's writing this story was sweet and humorous in so many ways. I really loved the ending, but have to admit I struggled a bit through the book. First of all, I missed the more constant input of the major characters and townspeople of Bliss I've grown to love that were in the first four books. But more than that, the constant back in forth in time in order to relate Max and Merry's story was sometimes hard to follow. But again, there were so many memorable scenes, new quirky characters to love, and a fabulous ending that made me so glad I stuck it out to the end. 3.5 stars
~I listened to the audio version of Merried and was very pleased with the character portrayals voiced by the narrator.
I think this is my favourite Misfit Brides book. I love Merry and Max and really enjoyed their story. It made me cry in so many places but it also make me laugh. Max and his curse were no match for Merry. Merry has been keeping secrets here whole life and really needed to find Max so that she could finally be herself and not worry about keeping secrets. Weddings in Bliss are always fun. The people in Bliss look out for each other and while everyone is upset that Merry hurt Max when she left last year without explanation they all want Max to be happy, and they want to help break his curse. Life in Bliss in never dull.
Merry and Max were funny, cute, and everything together. Merry is the daughter of a jewel thief while Max and his family owns a jewelry store. The first time they were together, she left him because of something her dad had done. The second time she sees him, she believes she can never be with him because of the things her family has done. Max tries to convince her that she isn't her dad but she doesn't listen. When a series of strange events begin happening in Bliss, neither know what to do or if the other can be trusted. The end of the book is really cute.
Ms. Farrell is one of my go to authors when one of her books comes out I am usually begging to review it. She bring such humor, love to her characters she hooks you from the first page with her wonderful writing talent. With this addition to the Misfit series poor Merry cannot get a break from her famous jewel thief father to her mother going through husband like there is no bodies business. She so wants to have a normal life but it is hard when you father pulls you in to his line of business from a young age. It was many years before she truly knew what she had been pulled into. Her mother who has always been totally in love with her father did the only thing she could to save Merry she divorce him giving her daughter she hopes to be a better life. The only thing is her mother cannot find happiness and begins a wedding marathon changing men faster than you can say jackrabbit. Which brings us to a wedding in Bliss and back to the man Merry ran from who she is madly in love with the kick is he owns a jewelry store. As soon as she found this out she had no choice but to run which left Max guessing what happen running around town like a chicken with his head cut off looking like a fool. The people in Bliss are not happy with Merry for breaking their precious Max’s heart. Merry just has to get through this wedding and she will be on the run again that is if Max can’t catch her this time.
What made this a great read for me is the humor, the fun characters, a little mystery, characters which keep it entertaining, her mother who is a delight nothing gets this lady down, getting to check in with past characters, the town of Bliss anyone would want to live here it’s a small town where everyone knows everyone and their business. I even grew to like her father. There is a BIG surprise at the end that will wow you. This is just a few of the reason I LOVED this book there are tons of other reasons.
My heart really went out to both Merry and Max for so many reasons. Merry just wants to find love, have a family and get away from her father’s influence that somehow he always seems to pull her in as an innocent by stander. She just has to get through one more of her mother’s wedding and she is off to France. Max just wants some answers things were going to wonderful this was the women of his dreams here one day gone the next with no explaining he wants answers, really he is demanding them. I totally enjoyed the baiting back afford between these two. I loved the messes Merry finds herself in as she dig herself in deep when trying to dig herself out. For such a small town Max still finds his self running around hunting down this woman who is driving him to drink.
Ms. Farrell puts a twist on romance with me reading so many sometimes they kind of blend into the same mold. Ms. Farrell she keeps her stories highly entertaining grabbing you attention from the first page pulling you in taking you to a fun place full of drama you love as she gives you a wonderful read that keeps you laughing, shaking your head and loving every word. Every book in this series is unique, with heartbreak, fun, sweet, loving, shocking at times all set in my crazy humorous town. I really recommend any book in this series I love them all it is so hard to pick my favorite but “Merry “is right up there at the top. If you are looking for a new author one you can relate to not only in her writing but her characters this is one you should pick up. Every book in this series are standalone but you don’t want to miss one single one.
Max and Merry are strong-willed, yet vulnerable just under the surface. I loved that the quirky characters Merry wrote about kept up a running commentary in her brain as she worked through daily challenges. But even better, they also began speaking to Max as he got to know them while reading the stories to his niece and nephews. There were funny laugh out loud moments, and heartbreakingly sad moments, all which kept me reading late into the night. I absolutely loved this book. Keep ‘em coming Jamie Farrell.
Favorite quote: “I’m not alone. I have Spike. And now I have you.”
I received my copy from a contest I entered on the author’s website’ the opinions here are my own.
I'm a huge fan of Jamie Farrell's books and find myself falling more and more in love with her characters in each book. When I saw Merried was going to be a second change romance between Max and Merry, I was over the moon to read it.
Merried is every bit as laugh out loud funny as the first 4 books in the Misfit Brides series. It also pulled so many emotions from me as I watched Merry struggle with her choices to either be near Max or stay away, and to try and to protect everyone as she has her entire life. I will say I absolutely adored Merry and Max as a couple. They had wonderful chemistry and really just seemed to get each other in a way no one else got either one of them.
While I loved Max, I have to say Merry was my favorite character from Merried. I loved how she wanted to take care of everyone from her mother, to Max, to her dad, to the entire town of Bliss. I also absolutely fell in love with her as "Phoebe Moon" and loved when they had conversations in her mind. I mean really, who doesn’t have their very own 13-year old running dialogue in their head? I've already begged Jamie Farrell to right the Phoebe Moon stories so I can read them, as the little snippets hooked me from the very beginning.
Merried is another winner in the Misfit Brides series from Jamie Farrell. I love that with each new book in the series I'm guaranteed laughter, a few tears, and a new couple to fall in love with each time. I highly recommend the Misfit Brides series to any contemporary romance fan.

A Jamie Farrell book is like a treasured Hallmark Christmas movie that you watch every year so you can feel the magic in your heart all over again. I buy every book with Jamie's name on it so I can curl up and travel back to her magical town of Bliss. Bliss is known as the Bridal Capital of the World, where couples make all their wedding dreams come true. Max Gregory's family owns the jewelry store, With This Ring, famous for creating the Mrs. Claus Diamond. Max used to have a dream, but the courage to chase it went up in smoke, just like his girlfriend, who vanished in thin air a year ago. Merry has a dream that starts with getting her mother married in Bliss before her jewel-thief father realizes they've ever been there. But everyone knows that a jewel thief's daughter has no business getting romantically involved with a guy with a jewelry store. Right? But Max is no ordinary guy, and Merry's life has become a book whose characters are always talking in her head. Can handsome and wounded Max convince Merry to take another chance on love? And can Merry outwit her father and find the courage to take a chance on Bliss? You'll have to read this deliciously decadent, and sexily romantic gem to find out. All I know is I lost my heart to the little girl that Merry used to be, and I won't ever forget the day she found her courage, and Max, again. I'm a big fan of Bliss, and I'm an even bigger fan of the superbly talented Jamie Farrell! Everything she writes is pure magic! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Merried is a story of heartache, betrayal and second chances. There is heart in every word on every page. Ms. Farrell has written a story of devotion. Love of family has landed Merry in some sticky situations. It's brought her the love of her life in Max, but family has cost her just as much. With a father that is addicted to living on the edge and a mother who needs to be the center of attention, childhood was unpredictable. Adulthood is even more complicated. Falling for the one man who that you know is off limits is heartbreaking but unprofessional for the daughter of a jewel thief.
Max met the girl of his dreams and just as quickly she disappeared. Now she's back with a lot of baggage and even more secrets, that could spell doom for his career and trouble for his heart. Max and Merry are totally mismatched but they do belong together. As an outsider looking in it was easy to feel Merry's uncertainy, Max's conflicting emotions and the fact that family was an important part of their lives made a chance at happiness even more difficult. Merried examines the love of family and listening to one's heart. Treacherous, seductive, emotional yet irresistibly charming.
Ahhhhhhh I did not want this book to end! There were parts throughout that I wanted to skip ahead so badly because I just had to know, but I resisted and I am so happy I did. Max Gregory lives in Bliss and is a part of the family famous for creating the Mrs. Claus diamond ring. He's best known as having a cursed loved life or at least he though he did until he met her. Merry Silver is the daughter of a jewel thief and a mother who gets married a lot. She wants to go out of the country where she can be alone and normal. She is in Bliss for her mother's latest marriage and is hoping for things to be fine until she leaves the country. But, things don't always work the way you want them to... This had romance, suspense, family, love, Kimmie-isms :) and humor as well. I wanted the book to continue on, all good things must come to an end though. Jamie Farrell has done it yet again. I like her style of writing, it flowed together and if I imagined it, I can see what she is describing. The next Bliss book cannot come soon enough. *I received this book in exchanged for a completely unbiased honest review.
Bliss, Illinois is a town that is all about weddings. They have a Snow Bride Festival complete with a massive cake monument. They have wedding planners and every kind of shop that a bride might need to plan a wedding. Merry Silver and her Mom are there for her Mom's seventh wedding. Patrick seems like a good guy and Merry hopes her Mom sees him as a keeper. Merry is no stranger to Bliss. She had been seeing Max last year when she found out his family owns the jewelry store in town. That caused problems for Merry because her Dad is a jewel thief. Max's family store is the home of the famous Mrs. Claus diamond ring. Merry is worried that her Dad is going to steal it.
The people in Bliss are as interesting as the town. There is even a famous country music star. Jamie Farrell has created a delightful series that is fun, full of laughs and interesting people. All is not blissful in Bliss. People have real struggles and sometimes have to fight for true love. Each book individual but still ties into the series. I always look forward to the next book from Bliss!
Jamie Farrell's books make my soul feel oh so good!!
Merried is THE book to read!!! Jamie Farrell is a story telling GENIUS!! This book is laugh out loud fun filled with wit and quirkiness, yet also heartbreaking and breathtakingly romantic. It's like this book has it's own heartbeat!! And it's filled with so many emotions.
Jamie Farrell is freaking amazing! I could not get enough of Merry and Max! Their story is just so creative, I literally could not stop turning pages. It was so amazing being back in Bliss with all my best friends. I love how real this town and the people in it are to me and Jaime Farrell's beautiful writing has done that.
If you love books that make you smile and sigh out loud... Merried is the book for you! I ABSOLUTELY recommend this book. I completely devour and adore anything Jamie Farrell has written.
Ms Farrell never fails to make her readers laugh with her stories and Merried is no exception. Her quirky sense of humor leaves her readers wanting more. Merried brings us back to the magical town of Bliss where happily-ever-after awaits everyone. But will Max and Merry get their happily ever after?
I love second chances story and this is a beautiful second chances story. I was captivated throughout the story and was left wanting more. Can't wait to read more of Ms Farrell's stories, especially if it is based in Bliss.
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Jamie Farrell has done it again. I loved the story of Merry and Max! Merry, the daughter of a jewel thief and Max, the manager of With This Ring. How is this going to work? This is a second chance love story full of suspense that kept me turning the pages! There's plenty of laughs along the way too! One-click your copy today and fall in love with Bliss! No spoilers, but I absolutely loved the ending!
What a perfect mix of cute and sexy. Max and Merry’s history and chemistry make this book worth reading. The use of flashbacks really builds the reader’s investment in their relationship. I also loved the meta-fictional element of Phoebe Moon’s stories being woven into Merry’s story.
I hate when there aren't any reviews for a book but there are tons of ratings, so I'll just give you a rundown.
FMC, Merry, has daddy issues. Her father is a jewel thief and she spends her life feeling as though she needs to pay for his life choices. She hides who she is for fear of being ostracized for her father's criminal behavior (as she has in the past). Her mother is a serial monogomist, who jumps from one marriage to the next in her search for love. Merry and her mother have a complicated, but loving relationship. Merry meets Max (MMC), a jeweler in a family of jewelers, and they fall for each other. Chaos with her father ensues.
Characters are complex and grow and there's a HEA. It's not a bad book. It even paces well for a book of this length. There's some lightheartedness, and we see many characters from the previous books about Bliss.
These books are not complex and do not elicit extreme emotions or any real critical thinking. Not a criticism, since that's actually why I read them. There's sex, but it's not super smutty. Like 🌶🌶 tops, for the sensitive readers (I'd give it 🌶 because it's more romantic than sexual). They're almost like the romance version of a Cozy Mystery...a Cozy Romance 😆
Book 5 is Merry and Max. Both Character’s are kind of new. Most of the books needed to be read in order, but this one kind of felt separated, with only a few characters lapping over. Good read, was different since it’s an author whom talks to her characters as she is going through life. Even more because she writes under a pen name, so he dads past doesn’t ruin her secret life. Merry created middle school books under the Pen name: Amber Finch. The stories are about her life and a crazy uncle who was a robber, just like her real dad, but the character knows how to beat them in several adventures. Max first met Merry at an author book signing in Chicago, about 45 minutes away from his home town of Bliss. His family owned a jewelry store. Once Merry found out, she left Max alone, disappeared without a trace in hopes that her real father wouldn’t rob Max’s family. Keeping friends or boyfriends were impossible once they found out whom her dad was “famous jewelry thief”, no one wants them around. So Merry kept max at a distance. Max found the golden bouquet in bliss during the towns celebration, which carried a curse on not finding love for 10 years or until your 1st love returns.
What happens when the daughter of a infamous jewel thief falls for the love cursed son of a jeweler? You get this delightful tale from Jamie Farrell. Merry Silver’s childhood consisted of constantly moving to stay one step ahead of her father’s potential arrests. Once her parents divorced, her mother continually married, and is now on marriage seven (or is it eight?), and her father continues to steal. Because of all this turmoil, Merry has written a series of best selling children’s books inspired by her childhood, under a pen name Amber Finch. One year ago, she met Max at a book signing for another author. They struck up a friendship, that quickly became more. Then Merry just disappeared. It is a year later and Merry is back in Bliss, Max’s home town, for her mother’s wedding. Will the wedding go off without a hitch? Will Merry’s father steal the famous ring on display at Max’s jewelry store? Will Max learn all of Merry’s secrets? This is a great, fun read.
Book 5 in the series and it was good but I just didn't like it as much as book 1 & 2. This book is WAY longer and I would like it to have been edited a bit to under 400 pages. Also the main characters were not as cute and charming as in previous books. Max's family is in the jewelry business and Merry's dad is jewel thief. She has had a hard life, moving all the time, her parents divorced because of the thief thing and her mom had remarried 6 times. Merry doesn't really believe in HEA's and never confides in anyone in case her dad uses it against anyone who have upsets her, as he has done in the past. Jamie Farrell's books are great because of the charm, swoon and characters but this book had more hot scenes, not sure if they were all necessary. I love her books especially the Officers Ex-Wives Club.
Merry has been living in her parents' shadow for most of her life. Her mother has been married more times than one hand and her father is a notorious jewel thief. Max helps run With This Ring jewelry shop best known for the Mrs. Claus diamond ring in Bliss, the most married town. Merry ran out on Max a year ago after a brief relationship but she is back. Her mother is getting married again and her dad is out to get the Mrs. Claus diamond. Max sees Merry again but is his love enough to keep her in Bliss or will keep her plans to jump ship once the wedding is over. Can Max get rid of his curse and Merry find her happily ever after? I love the Misfit Brides series. Great characters you get attached to and want to find out what happens next in their lives.
There’s a lot going on in this book. From themes about following your dreams and being true to yourself, to a parent’s responsibility to their children and judging someone for the sins of their relatives. Max has seemed like a sweetheart any time we’ve seen him in the previous books, and this one doesn’t change that impression. He’s everything good book boyfriends are made of, and I want a Max of my very own. Merry’s pretty sweet herself. She’s spent most of her life hiding her light to avoid being noticed. Especially to avoid bringing her father’s “vengeance” down on the people around her. Together, this pair are just adorable. Merry can teach him how to take risks while Max can show her what a family’s love looks like.
Another 4.5 star book. This was adorable. I loved Merry and how quirky she was. The way she talked to her characters and her strength. I even loved her fear. She’d been dealt a difficult hand and was trying to make the best of it. Max still had a couple more years to go on his curse. Yes the dreaded curse that even though he didn’t believe in it, it seemed to believe in him. The most recent woman he had had feelings for just disappeared. Then he discovered who she was related to. A good thing right? Or so he thought up until the moment she walked back into his life. Plenty of tension, a little fear, crazy characters, a menacing owl and a crime waiting to happen. It’s crazy but it worked and was so good!
Merry and Max, I laughed and I cringed, and I was worried, and all of the feels. I loved this one. They were perfect together, and the ending was great, especially that epilogue.
Merry definitely had her secrets, and she gave Max SOME of them right away we they reconnected after a year apart. (When she just vanished from his life). Her father is the infamous jewel thief and Max's family own the jewelry shop in Bliss. And of course, it houses a famous diamond ring that is one of a kind and perfect.
Then all the angst, the friends, the family, the secrets, etc. I did like seeing some of the characters from the other books pop in, and this really has been a cute series.
A strong 4 on the story, and a 1 or 0 on the spice, but I enjoyed it a lot.
I have read and listened to all of the Pippa Grant books adored them. I am now enjoying the books written as Jamie Farrell and loving them. In a lot of ways Bliss is the Copper Valley or Shipwreck of the Midwest so Pippa fans will feel right at home here.
Merried was funny and touching in so many ways. The theme of not being good enough and having to hide your true self runs through the story. This is a second chance romance and I enjoyed the flashes back to how they met. There are a few twists I really enjoyed.
Whether writing as Jamie Farrell or Pippa Grant the author’s heart and humor shines through.
We get Max’s story in this next Misfit Brides book. We are introduced to Max early in the series as one of the single sons of The Aisle. We learned that in the past, he has been cursed after finding the golden bouquet and cant find true love for 7 years. His family are jewelers who holds the cursed Mrs. Clause diamond. Merry Silver is a daughter of a jewel thief. What happens when a daughter of a jewel thief and a son of jewelers get together? There is a lot of secrets between the two. The story has a lot of back and forth with the past and present being told. Merry is another fun quirky character that I enjoyed reading.
This was a very good book but it was too long. I found myself bored around page 100 and skipped ahead a few chapters. It didn't feel like I missed anything but the book was getting better. This was published in 2016 and Pippa Grant has written a lot of books since then. They're all very good and I never miss an opportunity to read a new release. So either her writing has improved or she has a better editor or maybe a combination of both.
I did enjoy this story quite a bit and loved the characters. Both the main characters and the side characters.
