The Fomorian Wyrmriders #1-4

Wyrmrider Boxed Set

Rate this book
You mess with this southern belle... and she'll ring yours all the way to dinner.

Joni Campbell was raised on faith, family, and chicken fried steak.

But when she falls under a dragon's curse she has only one option.

She must seek her ancestors in the merkingdom of Fomoria.

But is she the one who needs saving, or do they need her, curse and all, if they hope to save their world?

Includes:
Wyrmrider Ascending (Book 1) - Larger than dragons. Nastier than snakes. Terrifying as hell. The wyrms have escaped the void. They threaten the underwater mer-kingdom of Fomoria and the city of New Orleans. But are the wyrms the biggest threat to emerge from the void? Will Joni be able to tame the wyrms? It may be the only chance she has to take down the voidbringer.

Wyrmrider Vengeance (Book 2) - Zombie sharks! What the...? When the animate zombie corpses, the newly crowned Fomorian Queen, Joni Campbell, has to find the caplata behind it all. Can she stop the sea-zombie apocalypse before the ocean falls or, worse, the pandemic spreads to the land?

Wyrmrider Justice (Book 3) - Time traveling ghost-pirates... just when you thought you'd seen it all. These are more than cursed pirates aboard Jack Sparrow's Black Pearl. They are commanded by a caplata and they have their sights on more than Fomoria. They want to unmake the world. But how can Joni and the wyrmriders possibly stop them when everything the ghost-pirate fleet encounters gets absorbed into their world-devastating armada?

Wyrmrider Academy (Book 4) - NEW ADVENTURE EXCLUSIVE TO THIS BOXED SET - With a new brood of wyrms coming of age more wyrmriders need to be trained. But as a half-human and an outsider, not all of the Fomorian Wyrmriders accept Joni's rule. Now, it's not a threat from without that threatens Fomoria but one from within. Can Joni and the wyrmriders quell the rebellion or will they depose her and unleash their plan to conquer the other Fomorian outposts and dominate the sea?

The Fomorian Wyrmriders is a thrilling adventure into a world of mermaids with dragons, vampires, voodoo witches, and other supernatural threats. This one-of-a-kind boxed set dives into an enthralling world, includes time-travel, and is chalk full with action and suspense. It also includes an unlikely slow-burn romance between the heroine and a demigod. Readers of Theophilus Monroe's Druid Legacy met Joni Campbell before--but now she's coming into her own as a snarky, powerful, kick butt, heroine who rides sea dragons. If you like dragon fantasy books, this series adds an interesting spin on the dragon rider epic. And yes, there are vampires in these books.

Theophilus Monroe

Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic-informed by religious myths, ancient and modern-that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.

As I have already read the first three books in this series, this review focuses mostly on the fourth and final book, Wyrmrider Academy. I love this series and this final book was a great way to finish off the whole story and journey of Joni Campbell in becoming the queen of Fomoria.

In Wyrmrider Academy, everything has calmed down after the events from the previous book, Wyrmrider Justice until the kings and queen from the other Fomoria kingdoms arrive with a completely unexpected announcement. Someone no longer wants Joni on the throne as their queen, but this time is not someone from outside of their world, but someone within and they seem to be willing to do whatever it takes to make sure she is dethroned. However, there's more at play than just a kingdom takeover, but you'll have to read this final book to find out what and who is behind it all!

I love this world of mermaids and Loa, wyrms and dragons, vampires and voodoo queens! Everything is so imaginative and descriptive. I love the magical place that Theophilus Monroe has created here and the characters are unique and endearing too. I love Joni and her willingness to do what is right for each and every person she meets, even if it means she has to make some decisions that I would not make myself. She tries to see the good in everyone, although that is sometimes her downfall too.

This final book was the perfect ending for this series and their characters. I hope we get to read more about Tahlia and her adventures in a new spinoff series soon. I love Tahlia's character too - she is just so fun to read!

This series is such a fun read and if you haven't tried anything by this author before this will be a great one to start with. The writing is fast paced and so creatively descriptive. It just draws you in and always leaves you wanting more!

Thank you to Theo for sending me a copy of this book. This review is all my own though!

This boxset contains all four books in The Fomorian Wyrmrider series, Wyrmrider Ascending; Wyrmrider Vengeance; Wyrmrider Justice; and Wyrmrider Academy. The main character in the books is Joni Campbell who falls under a dragon’s curse after being attacked by a Voodoo Priestess and pulled into a void. She has to travel to find her Fomorian ancestors in the merkingdom of Fomoria, to save the life of her unborn son, Merlin. She was raised as a human by her mother and this does not make her popular with the merfolk, although the king does allow her in, since she has part of the dragon’s essence in her now after escaping the void and needs the containment field that surrounds Fomoria to keep the dragons rage under control. In escaping the void, some other creatures managed to also come though, a small group of wyrms, similar to a combination of dragon and snake, but on a huge scale. Joni is attacked by one but manages to use her new dragon essence to communicate with one, a mother like her and make peace. This wyrms son has been taken from her and this resonates with Joni, as her son is living with his druid father in the human realm and she is stuck in Fomoria. The king sends his merlegion to attack the wyrms, believing them to be a threat, but the even bigger threat is from something known as the voidbringer, that has been pulled into their world and could destroy everything. Joni or La Sirene, as she becomes known, has to become the first ever Wyrmrider of myth, along with her friends, Agwe, Tahlia and Cleo. Her son Merlin has a huge role to play in the storyline, having inherited his father’s Druid powers, as well as her ability to siphon others magic and part of the dragon essence she has, as well as her Fomorian ancestry. He is destined to be a Gatekeeper of the void, to stop creatures that don’t belong in her world from escaping the void and causing chaos.
In book two, Joni Campbell as she was known in her human life, is now the Queen of Fomoria, Queen of the Seas, the famous Wyrmrider, La Sirene, and was forced to marry the demigod Agwe at the end of the first book. Her husband is too out of touch with any human or merfolk sensibilities to act in a normal manner with Joni and she finds it hard to accept any sort of relationship with him, other than the one which helped to save everybody previously. She is trying to adjust to her new role as Queen of the Fomorian merfolk, but she is more concerned about the city’s security after all of the mer legionnaires were turned into zombies, all bar Titus, and had to be destroyed. She is waiting for another attack to come, from the wicked caplata or bokors, who created these shark zombies. She knows they will attack again, but not when. She has her only friend Tahlia, who is also only half Fomorian and had struggled to be accepted by the previous King. Tahlia has taken over the role as Priestess for the merfolk after Chloe died to save her. They can’t allow any humans or merfolk to be bitten, otherwise there will be a zombie apocalypse! If they want to stop the zombie sharks altogether, they need to find the bokor responsible and put a stop to them first. Joni has to go and find some assistance from Marie Laveau in New Orleans and get a lead on which caplata or bokor is responsible, so she can stop them. She finds herself on a journey to the past, with the usual cryptic clues as to what action to take and who to ask for help. Nico the Damned, the first vampire, is tasked with helping her find a caplata near her family mansion, with the warning that Joni not interfere with any of her ancestors in person, nor get close to their plantation! Betrayal and death will follow Joni as she tries to save the merfolk and the world, as before, with so much more happening in this book.
Book three sees Joni and Agwe struggling with the romantic side of their marriage, with Agwe still not understanding her very human look at romance, since he never had any issues getting a woman in his previous god like existence. It’s been almost a year since they had to fight against Odette, but the ghost ship and her female ancestor are still out there, gaining power over time. What Nephtalie has in store for Fomoria and Joni, or the world in general is still unknown. With Joni’s family ability as a siphon, she could soon become too powerful for Joni and the Wyrmriders to defeat. Joni has been trying to get to know her people, as well as Agwe, but some still resist the change to a new leader and style of leadership. One visit to a merfolk home brings her a pair of eighteen year old twins, Finn, who wants to meet one of her merlegionnaires, the other an extremely intelligent young woman Shelley, who has a huge number of inventions she wants to try out for the queen and the merfolk. Her first is to bring electricity to the community, instead of them having to use plant life. Shelley’s will use a chemical reaction, and make a central power plant, then run her version of wires to each spire. An old and ancient foe has been found who has their own wishes for the world to be destroyed. Joni is going to come into another of her powers, from her mix of and connections with ancient magic of the voodoo world, which will allow her to find the ghost ship and others who may be in spirit form. Joni also has to worry about her vampire aspect, especially when she needs to go back on land, but this may well be what can save her soul in the end! Lots of danger and undead to battle, as the new group of young wyrms and their inexperienced riders prepare as well.
The last book is a surprise addition to the boxset alone, with the new set of young wyrms coming of age and needing more Wyrmriders to be trained up for their important role in keeping Fomoria safe. Joni is still considered an outsider by a small minority of the Fomorian merfolk, even though she is now their queen and has saved them and the whole world more than a couple of times. She and Tahlia, now the High Priestess of Fomoria, are both half-breeds and until King Conand was defeated, only pure bloods were allowed in the underwater city! Joni’s latest challenge is not going to come from a danger from the outside, but from within her own people, from those who see her rule as an abomination of the Fomorian way of life. Someone will be allying themselves with a powerful foe of old and another Loa, without realising exactly what these beings really want. Joni knows better than most what has almost happened under the forceful powers of certain Loas and is actually being blamed for all that has happened before, as it she herself orchestrated it all. She has to fight for her position as queen and even defend her past actions, when all she wanted was for Fomoria to be a safer and better place for all to live in. The last book is a great addition to Joni’s story and life in Fomoria, with danger around each corner, even though they have been lavishing in peace for a couple of years. She knows danger can arrive at any time and is preparing the latest group of young wyrms and Wyrmriders for the task of defending their homes. This series has been great fun to read and a thorough escape from reality! I received an ARC copy of this boxset from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I have read and reviewed each book in this boxed set separately. Each book was well written and entertaining and having them in one boxed set makes it easier to enjoy.

The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing this series to life and made this as much of a joy to listen to as it was to read.

I received and ARC and audiobook of this series and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

The “Wyrmrider. The Complete Series” by Theophilus Monroe compiles all books in the series - not only the original three volumes (Wyrmrider Ascension, Wyrmrider Vengeance & Wyrmrider Justice), but a ‘bonus’ story (Wyrmrider Academy) as well - into a single volume. The Wyrmrider series is possible the most accessible for newcomers to Monroe’s world, and thus this ‘complete’ volume is a must for any readers – acquainted or not with the series, as just the bonus story, justifies investing in this amazing value boxed set 😉

The series focuses on Joni Campbell, a relatable and very credible main character, who downplays her own feelings and empathy with healthy doses of sassiness and dark humor, who takes life in stride – in lack of a better option - and manages to win the fight to battle another day 😉. This series really has everything, and in spades, the story is a veritable smørrebrød of plots and twists: old Celtic myth, Arthurian tropes, ghost pirates, old feuds, vampire lore, and an underwater realm that would make Aquaman cry in despair at his own ‘amateurship’ (and mind it, I really like Aquaman, but he doesn’t stand a chance against La Sirene and her own 😊). Joni’s path leads through mythical creatures, bottom of the sea courts, a ghost pirate armada prowling on New Orleans (and no… I’m not talking about Jack Sparrow and its Black Pearl, but Davy Jones coming right out of his Locker to unleash mayhem and horror in his path) and Baron Samedi himself and more (yes, there is more, much more).

Theophilus Monroe has an uncanny gift to transform mythical sources into vibrant, modern, and yet timeless fantasy. But this time, he has outdone himself, working like a genie, able to construct a buffet of various very different tropes, that shouldn’t fit with each and yet fit to perfection. Like the clocks on world famous Dali’s “Persistence of Memory”, Monroe’s story warps out in a surreal canopy of visual sensation that, just as Dali’s painting, has a realistic, perfect, and exact story at its core. However, the real genie consists in captivating the reader at first sentence, with a tale that will have you holding your breath for extended period of time, very fitting indeed for an underwater world 😊, and will entice you from the very first page with full-fleshed characters, credible and relatable, a riveting plot, mesmerizing twists, all wrapped up in perfect delivered in Monroe’s carefully constructed narrative, and captivating writing style.

“The Fomorian Wyrmriders” forms part of Monroe’s original “Gates of Eden” universe, which loosely borrows Arthurian tropes and transfer them organically into a modern urban fantasy that spans centuries, crossing realms and blurs the boundaries between reality and legend and transforms them into a veritable smørrebrød of action, unexpected twists, wonderful characters and mind-blowing descriptions, garnished with a good dose of magic some sprinkles of mythical lore and some paranormal romance on the side, and served with very well-crafted, with an accurate world building, interesting characters, captivating writing style and carefully editing.

Wyrmrider Ascending.

so this series follows on from the Gates of Eden series and follows Joni's story after she left. This was probably my least favourite book by Theo so far but it's still a good story, it just didn't grip me the same way the others did. Each series can be read by themselves but I do feel that you would miss quite a bit if you don't read Gates of Eden first and it's been the same when I've read one out of sequence, it just doesn't make as much sense as they do when read as a whole.

Wyrmrider Vengeance.

This is the first of the series I read which was probably an error on my part. There’s a great storyline with some fantastical creatures and characters, a really fab sci-fi story, but some of it didn’t make as much sense as it could have as it obviously referenced the previous book and referred to things that had occurred in that book. My recommendation would be to start at the beginning of the series so everything makes more sense!

UPDATE:
Having now read book one, this makes a lot more sense! Obviously it follows on from book one and continues Joni’s story as a wyrmrider. With it now making more sense, I felt like l enjoyed it more the second time round and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Wyrmrider Justice.

Book 3 sees Joni and the wyrmriders saving the world again. We see some previously met characters returning with the new threat of a fleet of ghost pirates! This is quite a fast paced story compared to the previous two in my opinion, with lots of action. This was probably my favourite book of the series so far... One more book to go!

Wyrmrider Academy.

What a great ending to the series! Nephtalie is back with a vengeance and trying to destroy the world yet again! We meet another Loa whom she is controlling, and also the other Fomorian rulers from the outposts, who have been summoned with the intention of overthrowing Joni aka La Sirene. As yet, this book is only available as part of the boxset which is well worth getting in order to complete the story.

I received a free copy of this boxset and this is my honest review

Wyrmrider #1-4 . . .

The Fomorian Wyrmriders is a thrilling adventure into a world of mermaids and includes dragons, vampires, voodoo witches, and other supernatural threats. The romance is a slow-burn between the heroine and a demigod. Joni Campbell has grown into a snarky, powerful heroine who rides sea dragons. Below is a review of one of the books to give you an idea of what you’ll find in this box set.

Titles included are:

• Wyrmrider Ascending (Book 1)
• Wyrmrider Vengeance (Book 2)
• Wyrmrider Justice (Book 3)
• Wyrmrider Academy (Book 4) - new adventure exclusive to this set

*** Reviewing “WYRMRIDER ASCENDING (BOOK 1)” ***
The story focuses on Joni Campbell. When she had been trapped in the void and needed to siphon dragon magic to escape, she took on the Dragon curse, which became a part of her. This fortunately gives her the ability to communicate with the Wyrm, similar to but larger than dragons and very frightening. Yet something even worse is coming to the mer-kingdom of Fomoria and New Orleans. If Joni can make allies of the Wyrm, perhaps they can fight with her against this unknown enemy. But she will have to save them from the merfolk first. And if they can’t join forces, it could mean the death of merfolk, humans, and perhaps threaten existence itself!

The story line is good here, relating to things you may have encountered in another similar series, but presented here well enough to bring the reader up to speed. Not trusted fully by her own people, Joni may have a difficult time trying to pull all of this together to save the world. Grab your copy and follow the story in this first book to see if she can get everything moving in the right direction. Then have the pleasure of continuing on to the next story. I really LOVE box sets!!

Zombie sharks? Yes, please. Time-traveling ghost pirates? I'm in! This collection of stories fit in well with other stories I've read by the author in the same -verse. It was fun to crossover series with other characters I'd met before. The world building for merpeopke was creative and made sense. I enjoyed the stories overall.

However...

Possible spoilers — I'm not quite sure why, but I didn't really find Joni to be all that heroic, and I didn't like her as much as I liked Mercy or Nyx. For the most part, the Fomorians would have been better off if she'd never come to their city in the first place. And I got sort of an entitled vibe from her. For example, her marriage isn't ideal, but, she expects her husband to change things about himself and do all the work to make her happy, while she does exactly nothing to compromise or reciprocate. She's also a bit of a helicopter-queen, in that she wants to micromanage everyone and takes it personally when someone does something she didn't give permission for. Maybe it's just me, but I found her to be heavy handed and overbearing even though she was the Queen of Bad Decisions.

Sadie May narrated the collection. I'm not sure why, but she announced the end of each chapter, which brought me out of the story every time. The narration also sounded a bit echo-y at times. I did like her character voices, and felt she did a good job with the storytelling other than the issues I mentioned.

High Fantasy, serious theology, ethics and environmentalism

So tell me, what more could you want?

Seriously, how often do you get to read high fantasy that also engages your consciousness on deep ethical questions of morality or justice and fairness. Or how often does high fantasy take a SERIOUS look at questions of religion and morality.

Honestly, I can think of only one other author who has successfully managed these kinds of combinations. And, since I am EXTREMELY well read, I’m going to go out on a limb, here, and say that this type of occurrence is rather rare. Lol

This being said, like all of Monroe’s other works I’ve read, this is a lighthearted story and an easy read. The only challenge is in keeping the “temporal order” in order, since the characters move across the timescape as if it were landscape. Cause and effect become a bit superfluous at that point and it might be easy to be confused.

Monroe is definitely not heavy-handed with the ethical or spiritual questions. In fact, if you don’t have a background in philosophy or theology, it’s quite probable that you might not even notice most of it, since he buries much of it in dialogue relevant to the story rather than having characters wax elegiac or lecture their friends on a given point.

So please, run, don’t walk, to get this book, sit down and ENJOY!

This box set contains the three books of the Wyrmrider Series, Wyrmrider Ascending, Wyrmrider Vengeance, Wyrmrider Justice, and a bonus book ONLY available in this box set, Wyrmrider Academy.

This is one of my favorite series to read. Heck all of Theophilus's series are great, but this was the first one I started reading. We follow Joni, a half mermaid/half human/druid as she defeats enemies, evil kings, and ascends to new heights of her awesomeness. We see her find best friends, a unusual love, and meet many characters along the way with her. I don't want to give a lot away, but this series has it all, and will keep you reading long into the night.

After this series, I recommend you go read ALL of Theophilus's other works. They intertwine in such a happy way that you just internally smile when a friend from another series comes into the 'room'.

This review is going to exclusively cover the audiobook release.

Don’t buy it, don’t listen. The audio narration has this insufferable, ever-present hissing noise. I’ve been listening to this off and on for over a week and it has been an utterly joyless experience. Thinking back, I barely know what the plot is as I found it difficult to follow along. This is a rare DNF for me. I just can’t bring myself to listen to several more hours of static.

To make it clear, from what I can recall of the plot, it was great. The issue here is not the story, it’s the godawful audiobook and its lack of quality control. I enjoy the Gates of Eden literary universe and I suggest you go with Kindle or Physical copies, whichever one you prefer.

NOTE: This copy was provided to me free of charge as a digital review copy. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.

When a Southern Belle is cursed by a dragon she must go To the University family is from. Here she will be faced with other monsters, are the reasons to be there and an inner strength most southern bells don’t possess. She will eventually become the queen and that is a far cry from the beginning when the king didn’t know if he wanted her there. There is so much these booksHave to offer, when it comes to entertaining and a page turner I do think this is that kind of book. Although it took me a wild to read I am glad I read it And highly recommend it to those who like books about alternate universes and although I am not the prime audience I can’t say that was a great world building fun characters end it is also action-packed. And all-around good book! Please forgive the grammatical errors as I am blind and use dictation, but all the opinions are real.

This paranormal saga is perfect fare for a four-day weekend, ranging from PG to PG15, and is best read in series order.

Wyrmrider Ascending: Set aside a full, very long day for this fast-paced, PG paranormal, mostly underwater adventure.

Wyrmrider Vengeance: Allow most of a day for this PG13 paranormal which has nineteen-year-old Joni Campbell as La Sirene, Queen of the Sea, based in Fomoria. and battling zombie sharks.

Wyrmrider Justice: Set aside most of a day for this PG15 paranormal from Theophilus Monroe who, as usual, includes a hefty dose of philosophy and religion as well as mostly nautical adventure.

Wyrmrider Academy: This PG15 wrap-up novella can be read in an afternoon.

We first met Joni in the prequel Druidess. She was about 14 and had just found out the magical world existed. We saw her again in the Druid Legacy series. I liked her in Druidess but honestly didn't care for her in the Druid Legacy. Now she's front and center as La Sirene in the Wyrmrider series and she's great! She faces challenge after challenge with a true Southern girl attitude. I liked the surprise and variety of book 4 being a different type of challenge. The narrator did a decent job. It took me a little while to get used to her then all was fine. My main wish is that authors would go over pronouncement with narrators, so that words are pronounced the same (and correctly) from book to book or series to series.

A fun series to read. This is a series set in a shared world of the author. The story itself was entertaining and so so amusing. The one liners of the main character were a riot. I laughed through most of the books even though the situations were many times dangerous. I liked the bit of mystery and suspense of Jodi trying to figure out what was going on and who the bad guy actually was as the series went along. Just a fun read full of old and new references to pop culture that made me laugh a lot. The characters get fleshed out more as the series goes. And the mix of genre was interesting and fun to read. I never quite knew what was going to happen next.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The first book can be a bit confusing with all the time travel and working towards saving the world. Joni finds herself thrust onto a path that seems very daunting. You get to meet interesting characters. I think my favorite two are Nico and Marie. There’s a good amount of humor and the character development over the 4 books was at a great pace. It didn’t feel fat or too slow. The books had a great place to the story and I was listening to it every chance I could get. I recommend to fantasy, dragon, magic, mermaid, and adventure lovers. This is a good series.

This author a story with lots of twists and turns. It’s a very well thought out story with lots of fantasy . The author Theophilus, wrote a story that is very well detailed and the words flow easily. The heroine is very strong, that knows what she needs to do
The story has drama, tension, , strength, well thought out and crafted characters,
Book 1 starts the story how an evil monster has escaped. The heroine Joni knows what to do to save her people. Will she be in time to save her people from turning into zombies.

The performance of Sadie is good. She did Justice to the story. Her voice is smooth.

Audiobook: This four-book box set by Theophilus Monroe was addicting and entertaining. The first book was very creative due to the worldbuilding descriptions which set the stage for this box set. Each successive book was more exciting as Joni Campbell faced all the unique challenges in her new world and came to recognize her place in it. I enjoyed all the twists and turns. I appreciated the flashes of humor. I liked the fight scenes. Sadie May's narration was fine, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Wyrmrider: Books 1-4 by Theophilus Monroe (The Fomorian Wyrmriders) is a great series that I recommend. I received this boxset from StoryOrigin in return for an honest review, which I am happy to do. In Wyrmrider Academy(book 4) outside forces try to dethrone the current queen. For how she became queen, along with other adventures, I recommend reading the series, I don't want to add spoilers. The first three books in the series are available now, the boxset will be available Sept 30th on Amazon.

I enjoyed some parts of the books more than others. Joni is far stronger than she knows and has a lot of difficult decisions to make. This can be read without reading the previous books by this author but it does allude to the previous series a good amount. I enjoyed getting to know more of these characters and it was interesting to see this take on time travel and the magic system. I hope we get to see more of some of these characters in future books cause I want to know what will happen to them. It was a fun and wild ride that’s for sure.

The Wyrmrider Boxset: Books 1-4 was a great read. The protagonist, Joni was warm and endearing yet feisty enough to rise to the defense of her people. The stories flow seamlessly from book to book in a riveting cascade of action that had me reading non-stop through the series. I recommend these books to readers who support the genre or to those who are open enough to try it.

OK first off this is not my usual type of story, but I have nearly all of the books by this author. The storyline is really interesting, a little weird for me though. But if you love mer folk and unusual but intriguing sea creatures, then this series is a good place to start. The characters personalities are great, all are different in their own way. I didn't enjoy this series as much as the authors others, but that's just because I usually read about fae or demons.

I loved how this boxset flowed. It was an incredibly easy read full of adventure, humor, and even a light romance. I enjoyed the blended mythologies, great world-building. Just a note to readers that this is not the first of our heroes' adventures, but because the time jumps, you'll be okay. This can be read as a standalone. This is a fantastic set, with amazing world-building and character development. This author really knows how to write a strong, kick-a$$ heroine. I love the diverse variety of paranormal creatures in these books (merfolk, sea dragons, zombie sharks, and ghost pirates, oh my!) This series is full of action, adventure, humor, and a touch of romance. Very enjoyable and engaging.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

This box set of the Wyrmrider series is an absolute delight. I haven't read many series that focused primarily on an MC that is a mermaid. Although Joni has a few other tricks up her sleeve I love her journey.

We see Joni truly come into her abilities and become legendary in Formia where as a half human she had some work to do to earn her place. She makes some surprising friends and allies as she meets her destiny head on.

It's a fantastic read and I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Now watch as you are in for a twist with Anabelle and the voodoo academy! Everything intertwines so keep your eyes open and watch how the supernatural world intertwines!

I really struggled with this title. The storyline itself is magnificent, being full of characters straight out of mythology. Unfortunately, the author often uses summary of previous chapters as an attempt to segue and misuses the tangential thoughts of the main character for a purpose that frankly i didn't even understand. What could have been a magical book series that took me to a place known only in imagination was a jolting erratic roller coaster instead.
