I loved My Dark Self which was Book One on the My … Self Series. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Book Two. I am so glad I didn’t have to wait very long to read it. I enjoyed My True Self even more than its predecessor.

This time, Alicia is in control of the body and I loved how that worked. It think their relationship seems to work better and they work well together with Alicia in control. I know that Alicia is ‘the psychopath’ but I think her no nonsense attitude bodes her well. She knows how to appear in social settings but she needs Josslyn in some of the situations she finds herself in. I think the two personalities have been written well and I like how that this time, there is the agreement that they need each other’s qualities and you can tell the difference and don’t need to be told who’s point of view it is from. I think Josslyn has come on since book one (she still really likes a drink though!). I find myself routing for them both for different reasons.

I love the storyline but do not want to say too much to spoil it. I couldn’t have predicted it would do this way that’s for sure. The former stalker Peter is back and Alicia is going to sort it out, whatever it takes. This time though, Josslyn is on board with what needs to be done. I like their relationship with her new acquaintance Ben and how things all connect. Alicia definitely got a chance to use those psychopathic tendencies during this book! Her ‘non existent feelings’ sure get expressed by them as well. There were some good twists in book and I like how it was left for Book Three. I can’t wait to get my hands on it to see how this ends!

Thank you to Jessica Huntley for an ARC for an honest review.

Brilliant! This book is a sequel from 'My Dark Self' (if not read go read it, it is fabulous!) This sequel surpasses the first book which is a hard task. I loved the dynamics of the 'siblings'; their bickering, their idiosyncrasies and their growing loyalty to each other. At times their relationship has a comical element to it and you visualise them like normal sisters.

It's a complex, controversial mental health presentation that is covered so well and is blended intricately into the storyline, but for the reader with such ease, it's very clever. It's simplicity is very impressive.

The book has fluidity; the suspense builds quickly but feels right and has you on tenter hooks. It is dark and brewing, leading its reader down an even darker, foreboding path- one you are drawn to, desperate to know what happens in the next book. Fingers crossed the 3 rd book won't be long!

It was a tricky one to write, but I really wanted to develop the characters a bit more, especially Alicia. She's changing and so is Josslyn, in more ways than one. You get to meet a new character as well as a previous one. I had a lot of fun with this book. I hope people enjoy it!

This is the second book in the My.....Self series.
I read the first one and couldn't wait to read this one and I have to thank Jessica for allowing me to read an arc copy of her book!
After the events of the last book, Alicia now has main control of "the body" and Josslyn has come back after us being misled that she had been "removed".
Old characters return causing the girls grief and new characters arrive to support them.
I still really enjoy how Alicia and Josslyn are both written differently and this book was definitely darker than the first. I reckon it's a bit more on the icky side toward the end.
Speaking of the end! I did not see the twist coming. With such a big reveal I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes and how it will all be wrapped up.

Loved this second book in the series.

Delving deeper into the characters of Alicia/alexis/josslyn and also the introduction of Ben.
Did not see the plot twists coming at all which is always great especially when your half way or more through a book and think you’ve figured it out.

Was sad to have the demise of Oscar but necessary for the storyline to unite the sisters in their revenge against Peter.

Found this a much easier read than the first book in series which was still a good read, but this one definitely stepped it up and can’t wait to see what the final part will bring for the characters, especially with the cliffhanger ending of the Hooded man

I was nervous about picking up the second book in this series because I loved the first book and had no idea where this series would go, but Huntley did not disappoint. I really enjoyed this unique and twisted plot. It was fast-paced and full of non-stop intrigue and action. I loved the banter between Josslyn and Alicia; it was funny, witty, and sisterly. I was immediately drawn to the new character, Ben and was excited to see how that would play out. Loved it, BTW.
The build-up to the ending was predictable, but it propels the reader further into the story, leaving many questions and making me eager to read the final book. I'm excited to see what Huntley has up her selves for My Real Self. I can't wait to keep reading!

This was another amazing instalment in the My Self series. I absolutely loved this book, it was action packed and gripping from the start. I couldn’t wait to get started on this book after finishing the first one.

This book kept up the pace from the first book and the plot continued to twist even more. There were a lot of shocks in this book, there are definitely loads more to come in the final instalment. I enjoyed the direction the author took this book, the story became even more dark and twisted. I read this book so quickly, I couldn’t wait to find out even more about Josslyn and Alicia. I couldn’t believe how the author really stepped it up a level in this book which I didn’t think was possible.

The characters were still very interesting. We got to meet more individuals in this book but it is difficult to figure out peoples real intentions at first. As the book continues, we find out more and more. Some things we find out are very shocking. I feeling like going in depth into some of these characters, including Josslyn and Alicia, would give spoilers. So just believe when I say how incredible both the characters and the plot are.

I’m going to be so sad when this series ends, but I can’t wait to see how the author wraps up the series.

First thing’s first - HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY TO MY TRUE SELF! This book is out TODAY so go get your hands on it immediately!

After reading My Dark Self in one sitting, I need to know what happened next. I was super lucky that I got sent the sequel within a week of finishing the first book, and I devoured that in one sitting as well!

This series is SO GOOD! If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers with super fast-paced chapters and gripping plotlines, this is for you!

As with the first book, my love for Josslyn and Alicia is still there - they are such brilliantly written characters and their personalities are so different and yet compliment each other’s so well!

There were so many twists and turns in this sequel which I didn’t expect, so I was on the edge of my seat the entire time!!

I cannot wait for the third book in the series to come out, and I plan on making it a full house of finishing them in one sitting when it does!

Yet again Alicia and Josslyn don't disappoint in the 2nd book in the My ... Self series. I enjoy the banter between the two of them and laughed more than once (which one doesn't expect from a psychological thriller).

Ms Huntley's writing style is unique and pulls you in right from the first page. Although a few scenes might be upsetting or difficult to read, Ms Huntley handled the subject matters with great care and I applaud her for this.

Although I anticipated the build-up towards the end and the big reveal, the ending left me ready to start reading the 3rd and final book in the series. Which I will be reading next - I don't have the patience to wait after such a tremendous cliff-hanger of an ending! Not only do I need more time with Alicia and Josslyn, but I'm also excited to see a different side to both of them which will be revealed in the 3rd book - My Real Self.

The second book in the My...Self series by Jessica Huntley gets five stars! My True Self carries on a while after book one ends. Alicia has moved and unexpectedly settled (due to the pandemic) in Italy.

She grew on me in this book, and I liked to see her figuring out how to deal with ‘regular’ people despite being a psychopath. My main/only gripe is we are reminded often in the text that she is a psychopath and she doesn’t have emotions. Even if I hadn’t read book one, I figured that out. But beyond that I was really engaged the whole time.

I don’t want to spoil anything, so it’s hard to say much. But the new character of Ben was fun, and I loved how he interacted with both Alicia and Josslyn. In those moments, we really got to see how different their voices were and it was really well done. The set up for book three is a big one, as with many book two’s it almost feels like it ends in an odd place, but that happens so much it’s kind of industry standard now so no complaints there. I tend towards stand-alones though for this reason. I can’t wait for the end of that cliffhanger! What I am happiest about though, and a reason I LOVE reading indie authors is, the morning after I finished reading I saw a date for the book three title and cover reveal is just a week away. Being able to interact with authors I read is so fun. I love some Stephen King, but he’s not replying to your comments about reading his latest book.

Book two in the My... Self series, My True Self follows Alicia who is now in control of their body and, for the first time, is alone. After the events of book one, she has travelled abroad and now lives in the Italian countryside where she runs a little wine bar while staying off grid. It isn't long until she starts to feel off, as if someone is watching her. Things take a dramatic turn and she is forced to come back to the UK to face her demons one last time... she hopes.

I read this in one day; I desperately needed to know what happened and how Alicia was going to get out of the mess she found herself in. The writing is so easy to read that I was able to just devour chapter after chapter without any feeling of fatigue. Just as in book one, the author builds up the mystery and suspense extremely well and the plot twists do not go the way we think they will. I enjoyed the character development but said characters shall remain nameless so as not to give anything away to anyone who hasn't read the book; the dialogue ran more to my taste in this one too.

Great instalment but not a stand alone. Would definitely recommend.

Oh I love this series. I now on countdown for book 3 (hopefully there is one).
This book focuses on the girls working together to get a result they surprisingly agree on.

There are some real laugh out loud moments from the conversations between the sisters but also some really heartfelt emotional scenes that just make you love them both.

I really enjoyed meeting Ben in this book and look forward to seeing his role in the next book.

I am blown away by Jessica's writing, she writes in a way that gets into your head and you become part of the book. I always feel like I've been on a real journey after one of her books.

* POTENTIAL, MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD *

“My True Self” is the follow-up to “My Dark Self” and the second in Jessica Huntley’s planned trilogy of books that revolve around Josslyn and Alicia, twin sisters who inhabit the same body, and while Jessica endeavours to recap some of the first book throughout this story, it’s obviously recommended that you read the first book so you’re up to speed with these characters and their unique situation. Like its predecessor, “My True Self” is told entirely through a first-person narrative; having manipulated events to have her sister surgically removed from her body and retired to Tuscany, the majority of “My True Self” is told through the cold, logical, and clinical eyes of Alicia, now calling herself Alexis. A self-diagnosed psychopath, Alicia has killed at least two people and she feels very little emotion or affection for anyone or anything. Shirking contractions and speaking with a very blunt, often aggressive voice, Alicia is a pragmatic and logical and regards most people with disgust or suspicion.

Now relegated to a passenger inside a body that no longer looks or feels like her own, Josslyn feels a little cheated out of her existence and seems very different to how she was in the first book. Often coming across as a whiny, needy, extremely annoying voice in Alicia’s head, Josslyn constantly moans about wanting to try and take control (which she struggles to do), indulging her vices (appears to be a full-blown alcoholic as she can never stop at just one drink), and lusting after Benjamin. Josslyn and Alicia are similar in some ways (they’re both socially awkward, but in different ways) but couldn’t feel and sound more different; Josslyn uses contractions and is quite a klutz, whereas Alicia is candid and dominant. Still, the two seem to co-exist better with Alicia in control; she’s turned Josslyn’s life around, making her healthier and stronger than ever, but her idyllic life in Tuscany is threatened when her past comes back to haunt her.

Her former stalker, Peter, is every bit a callous psychopath as Alicia but projects the image of a friendly and successful teacher who is a pillar of his community. After positioning himself as a hero for “discovering” one of Alicia’s victims, Peter successfully goads Alicia back to the UK to confront him, which is the perfect excuse for her to finally flex her long-suppressed violent tendencies. Alicia is determined to eliminate Peter, but stumbles upon a long-running, sick game of manipulation and deception played by her opponent, who has become obsessed with Josslyn. Peter’s depiction as an utterly despicable human being also helps to make Alicia someone to root for; it’s true that Alica’s done terrible things, but Peter is all of her worst traits dialled up to eleven, meaning that it’s easy to want to see him suffer and pay for his actions. In comparison, Ben isn’t the most compelling character, and ended up being little more than a pawn who helps Alicia despite her ice-cold shoulder and generally seems to just a nice guy trying to do the right thing.

“My True Self” definitely worked from being focused on Alicia’s perspective, though Josslyn’s more emotional side definitely helped to infuse some humanity to the cold-blooded Alicia. The story definitely picks up once Alicia’s investigation starts, and I enjoyed how Jessica brought up a few seemingly inconsequential elements from the last book and expanded on them here while also laying the groundwork for the third book in the series. I enjoyed Jessica’s descriptions of what Alicia’s impassive and resentful thoughts of those around her; though she claims to be a psychopath, she’s smart enough to assume a socially-acceptable façade, but her violent impulses are never far from the surface and when they come through, it’s with an enjoyable gruesomeness. Overall, this was a strong follow-up to the last book; Jessica’s writing has definitely improved and I liked that added focus on Alicia, especially as I found Josslyn to be a far more annoying character in comparison and this time around, and I’m interested to see where she takes the story in the next book.

Book 2 in The My Self Series
Following directly on from Book 1 My Dark Self.

“Blood has always fascinated me. It is our life force. We are unable to survive without it, yet it can escape from our body so easily through merely a small slice of the skin.
Human beings are weak when you really think about it”

Alicia / Josslyn is back well at least Josslyn is in her head after being removed in the end of book 1.
Their stalker still will not leave them alone.
Peter has found them and wants Josslyn back !
Peter must die if she’s ever to be left alone. Alicia must work together with Josslyn for once and rid themselves of those who wish them harm.

As good as book 1.
I love the concept and storyline. A twin never born. But living inside you and manipulating the mind. I love a thriller with grit and this book has it along with some grizzly moments and a love interest. It has it all.
Moving house has put me terribly behind on my book tours “I did slightly over commit” IYKYK and totally missed The My Self Tour but better late than never I say !
Great book looking forward to reading book 3 and seeing what pans out !

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ BOOK ONE**

The second in a trilogy by Jessica Huntley, My True Self starts almost immediately where book one, My Dark Self finishes.

Life is complicated for Alicia and Josslyn. They are one and the same (Parasitic twins) – which makes it difficult for anyone who gets involved. And woe betide if you cross Alicia. I certainly wouldn't want to meet her in a dark alley. She is a true psychopath as is her stepbrother Peter who gets increasingly nastier as the story progresses, eventually revealing his true colours.

The two points of view are well distinguished throughout the story with Josslyn (the "nice" one) speaking in what seems a normal tone and when Alicia comes to the fore her speech is stilted, almost robotic. It's a good way to separate them so hats off to the author for pulling that off. It would be interesting to find out if it is a mental illness that Alicia/Josslyn have as hinted by their new partner Benjamin. Also he seems a bit too laid back with everything that occurs in the book so maybe something else is waiting to be revealed!

There are good story arcs emerging here one of which makes for a great cliffhanger. And I admit to being gobsmacked at one revelation halfway through the book which got me excited to read on.

Overall – a good 2nd part to a trilogy which has me flummoxed as to where it can go next.

Many thanks to Jessica Huntley for the e-ARC.

Holy Moly, from reading My Dark Self to this, the twists, turns and drama increases massively. This book definitely kept me guessing from start to end whilst thoroughly enjoying just how messed up the characters can be.

Towards the end, I ended up feeling kind of sorry for Alicia in the end, it became clear why she was who she is and done the things she did.

I always enjoy a book that has differing point of views as I think it gives the book more depth and dynamic. Josslyn has the voice of Alicia in her head and Alicia is made out to be the cruel, mean one. However, when reading the book, I agree she can be dangerous but I also think a lot of that has to do with Josslyn as well. Alicia is after all, a figure of Josslyn’s imagination.

I am so intrigued to see where Jessica goes next with this series, I wonder will we see more of Alicia and Josslyn and where will they be next time?

Thank you to Jessica for sending both ARC’s to me, I loved being able to go from MDS to MTS, it flowed so easily and the twists were amazing. Thank you for the ARC’s and a massive

HAPPY P U B L I C A T I O N D A Y to you for MTS!

Buckle up for this review because this book is a doozy!! The My … Self series is written in such a ‘chatty’ way that the story is so engaging, easy to follow, and super enjoyable. The character development is absolutely on point, Alicia and Josslyn really do become your friends.

The strength of the sisterly bond really comes through in this second instalment, and the natural love/hate sister relationship I’m sure all siblings experience. Yes, it’s okay for me to argue with, say mean things to, feel frustrated beyond belief with my sister but by god if anyone else even THINKS of doing such things and hurting my sisters feelings BE PREPARED TO FEEL MY WRATH 🔪👊🏼🤣 the way Alicia became so protective over her sister was just lovely.

Written in the beautiful setting of Tuscany, I could fully picture the serene setting of Alicia’s villa in the Tuscan countryside, with her swimming pool in the garden she does laps in every morning, situated in a vineyard with a wine bar she opens up to the locals, in the glorious sunshine.. bliss ☀️🍷 it’s just a real shame it was the setting to something so awful!! Jessica really tested my moral compass here because I was cheering Alicia on as she did what she did, all for revenge and to protect her sister. Yes, I totally backed Alicia and I’m not sorry 🔪✌🏼 Jessica certainly doesn’t hold back in this book let me tell you.. it is dark, gritty and gorey (to the point I had to put down the brownie I was eating at one point 🤣) all the things we love in a thriller!!

BUT can we just talk about THAT ENDING?! 🤯 I am actually speechless. That was the mother of all twists!! I thought My Dark Self ended on a cliffhanger? Well I was in for a shock.. that was NOTHING compared to this one!! I can’t, I really can’t. I’m so thankful I have the pleasure of jumping straight into the third and final instalment to see where things go next because there’s no bloody way I could have waited for answers!! 🤣

Oh Jessica, you genius..

It was great to get into the minds of Alicia and Josslyn again even though it's a bit crowded in there.
I read the first book 'My Dark Self' a while back and loved it. This second one in the series really ramps up the thriller aspect.
Alicia, now Alexis, opted for surgery to remove the remains of her unborn twin and has moved to Tuscany where she opened a wine bar. She lives a low-key existence, keeping to herself and limiting her engagement with her customers to pouring their wine and taking their money.
Her only friend is Oscar, Josslyn's little dog. And the remnants of Josslyn who is still alive and well in her head. Until Ben comes along and everything changes, but not necessarily for the better.
This book, like the first one, is not for the fainthearted. It is a psychological thriller and a horror story rolled into one. My kinda book!

My True Self continues on from where the last book ended, like My Dark Self this is also such a page turner and I just had to keep reading it and couldn’t put it down.

I love how this book is told from the different characters POVs as I feel like that always keeps a book so interesting. In My True Self we’re also introduced to a new character and of course there is more twists and turns in this book😮

Again like the first book in the series this is a dark read and I’d definitely recommend checking out the trigger warnings beforehand for sure. It was so tense in parts and I didn’t have a notion how everything was going to pan out, it made for such a good reading experience as I had so many theories throughout!

My True Self is such a great sequel to My Dark Self and I’m so excited to pick up the final book in the series, My Real Self to see how it all ends😱😨 I definitely want to pick physical copies of these books for bookshelf I love the covers😍

A Fantastic read/listen. I enjoyed the banter of the characters within the story. This was a quick read as it was so good. It grabbed my attention with every page turn and held it to the very end. The book is full of twist that kept on twisting. The characters were entertainingly written and likeable. Never a dull moment. The narrator did great bringing the story and characters to life. Looking forward to reading the 3rd installment of this series.
