Military Matchmaker #6

A Lot Like Heaven

Rate this book
Ex-Navy veteran Blake Keller is the world’s worst blackmailer. He came to the small town of Superstition Springs, Texas to enroll his teammate who needs immediate help with PTSD symptoms into an art therapy program, only to find it doesn’t exist yet. His mission: use his newly acquired intel about the consultant working on the project as leverage to force her to move faster. Except his special ops training never covered how to manage a pretty brunette who checks every one of his boxes and has major distraction written all over her.

Aurora Elliot is the world’s worst undercover agent. Yes, she’s a real non-profit consultant who’s volunteering to spend a couple of pro-bono days on the therapy program, but after learning she was adopted, she’s really in town to scope out which of the residents is her birth mother. Her mission: leave before the woman can reject her again. Five minutes into her covert investigation, the far-too-charming and charismatic Blake Keller has uncovered the truth.

His deal: let him oversee her progress on the program and he’ll keep his mouth shut. Her counter offer: a partnership.

Soon they’re working together in close quarters, willfully sharing secrets and baring their souls in the world’s worst attempt to ignore the sparks flying between them. The timing for romance is all wrong. But when Serenity hands them love predictions signifying it’s meant to be, all bets are off…until Blake finds out Aurora never planned to stay.

Welcome to Superstition Springs with a town matriarch and mystic named Serenity Force who is always ready with her predictions designed to heal and direct the hearts and souls of the wounded.

Now retired Navy SEAL Blake Keller and his team have arrived in Superstition Springs to get retired Captain Vanessa Emerson the help she needs for her PTSD. They'd been sent to rescue her and instead were imprisoned together in a dingy Taliban basement, tortured and nearly starved to death, before they escaped. Finding out the Veteran therapy center isn't even open yet has him frustrated and determined to do whatever is necessary to get it opened, even if he has to resort to blackmail. He quickly finds out he isn't very good at blackmail.

Aurora Elliot is only in Superstition Springs to find her birth mother. Agreeing to be a Consultant for the non-profit Veteran Center to help get it up and running is only a cover. But it turns out she is the worst undercover agent ever when she finds herself blackmailed into doing the job she was hired to do anyway, which will also put her in close proximity to the hunky retired SEAL that is doing the blackmailing.

It always warms my heart to come back to Superstition Springs, it’s like coming back home, to a loving family. And meeting former protagonists of the book peeking on the new couple, telling us news of their wonderful “after-happily-ever-after” to their love stories, it’s a welcome plus! So, this time newcomers have come to town, Blake at the head of the group of SEALS with injured souls and bodies to heal. He meets Aurora at the local drugstore (though no pink-gray four-legged friend around this time… such a pity!) and… well, no spoiler alert here: in one moment two halves start becoming one! Blake is caring, considerate, hiding his own aching to help others; Aurora keeps secrets which are tearing her apart and yet make her the perfect candidate to uncover his wounds and help start healing him… and herself. Only one thing more: I read a bit of this every morning for a week, to help me get on with hard life and it’s worked. Can’t wait for the next!

10 stars worthy

I honestly wasn’t sure that I would like Aurora and Blakes story when I started. It look a good 4 chapters to become fully invested in their journey. I was absolutely hooked on it. There are a few grammatical errors and typos throughout that made me say huh? Not enough to lessen the rating.

We are given a good look into PTSD with Blake and Emerson. Painful and all encompassing I found myself holding my breath at times for them. Great that Aurora found her birth mom and they are taking steps to know each other. Thrilling moments ahead with all the babies and veterans coming in. Max and Linas story will be amazing!

Another stuff your kindle day win!! I adored this romance about trying to open an art therapy program and studio for veterans with PTSD and other injuries!

I loved our main characters Blake and Aurora they were both real characters dealing with real heavy things such as PTSD, grief and finding out your adopted. I loved the growth of both our main characters throughout the book! I loved how it talked about how helpful therapy is but also how expensive creating a program like this really is. As well as finding the courage to admit there is a problem as well. I loved the setting of the whole story!

I’m excited to read more by the author!

This story was very enlightening for me. It is a great story with lots of romance and emotions. I have friends and relatives going through many of these issues.

DNF. Nothing seriously wrong with it but found it really hard to slog thru. Characters are rather blah and about halfway thru I gave up.

This book was ok. I would find a better book and put this one down to read other books. Maybe if I made it past the 4 chapters I would have continued but this book I read in-between other books.
