Another heartwrenching, beautiful story! The despair Laney feels is so real, the loss she feels at Cas's demise so palpable. The thing is, don't start this book late at night, unless you want to go without sleep! Once you start, you'll be compelled to turn page after page, almost like a drug, pulling you in for your next fix! Just when I thought the storyline was panning out more or less along the lines I anticipated, I was thrown for a loop! That's what Angelina does so well, she gets you all snug and warm and then throws in a twist of note! One I could never have expected, one that had my jaw literally drop! Laney's life takes a dramatic turn with the introduction of Luc, as she tries once again to navigate the unknown, with an unknown! Everything she thought she knew, what she is, who she is, seems to be undone. She's pitted against Leon yet again but it begs the question, is Grazia somehow behind it all? And who exactly is Grazia? The promise that the final book in the series is going to be a showstopper is tangible! I can't wait to read how this series will conclude

I finished the second book a few months ago and I was super anxious to read this one.You just don't finish a book with a cliffhanger like that and go on as nothing have happening. It was incredible. This book came with lots of answers, a much more brave and independent maincharacter e lots of Lucas hahahahaha. I loved this book, the end was mind-blowing, and now I cannot wait to read the next one.

“Unforgiven” is the third book in Angelina J. Steffort’s “Breath of Fate” Series, which offers a very original version of the ‘Angel of Death’ myth. An amazing tale, well written, fast paced, whose multidimensional characters steal the heart not only of its intended YA audience but everyone with an open heart and an interest in good storytelling.

Laney, the female protagonist of the series, began to see the ghosts/souls of the recently departed, after a horrible car accident, which she survived against all odds. Her new ‘ability’ promptly converts her in the ‘school-freak’, alienating her from everyone except her childhood friend (Leon). Until the new boy at school (Cass) shows exactly the same ability, but with a much darker flavour. For those who still haven’t picked-up the series, I will not spoil you the story by saying more, but – seriously…. What are you waiting for 😉 Just trust in Laney, Leon and Cass to offer you a wonderful story and start reading 😊

Those already familiar with “Breath of Fate” already know what to expect 😊 and this book has it in spades, because this time Laney is going to Hell, and there is a new Shadowbringer in town.

Angelina Steffort’s series is a wonderful tale about Angels of Death - those tasked to bring the souls of the departed to heaven or hell - who are very real, and where the boundaries between heaven & hell and good vs evil are often blurry and difficult to discern. A wonderful tale, with much more depth than one will expect from a YA fantasy book. It mixes elements of coming-of-age and teenager angst with the eternal question about actions and consequences and more. “Breath of Fate” is set in our world, a very real world, Laney’s abilities notwithstanding. All characters are beautifully crafted and serve their purpose, highlighting the different aspects of the story. The plot flows effortlessly from the very first page to the end of the book, taking the reader in for a wonderful ride, that will make a lasting impression: there is joy, there is fun, despair, tears (both of joy and sadness) and once the characters find a way to your heart, they will linger there for many years to come, because there are first and foremost credible and relatable, angels with a dark side, demons in search of redemption, humans burdened with impossible task, driven by hope and love. It’s real life, just better!

Angelina J. Steffort has an uncanny gift for storytelling and description, bringing effortlessly to life a wide variety of characters, all with their own strengths and flaws, in a fast-paced, nicely flowing highly enjoyable story, with incredible twists and turns, solid good plots and absolute wonderful characters.

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

The story picks right where the last one ended.

However, this time we get to see Laney grow and develop so much more as a character than in the previous two books. She’s stronger, fierce, and ready to tear the world down to save Cas.

Another character that surprised me this time was Avery – she has developed so much. From the Queen of Highschool who treated everyone bad she actually ended being really sweet and such a great friend to Laney, their friendship was really beautiful, and loved all the little things they now shared and the boundaries they learned to respect each other.

The world-building as usual has been amazing. Angelina did a great job bringing literal hell to life and bringing us straight there for some action. Really enjoyed the torture descriptions – they weren’t triggering, at least for me weren’t. There was a small abuse inflicted but nothing too serious to need it to be a trigger warning.

The imagination behind the whole story is mind-blowing. I love the fact the supernatural things happen in our world and everyone is so oblivious of everything happening around them that it legit made me wonder if this can actually be real. The Lightbringers and Shadowbringers to gamble our souls when we’re dead, the immortals who sold their souls the Gatekeepers who break all the rules. I really loved the way the story is created because it played a lot with my own imagination.

While I loved the story completely, there is one thing that I still hate and that is Leon. He is still not becoming my favorite character, he is still not more mature as I was expecting him to be, but in fact, he is legit losing his mind and his friendship with Laney. He still gives me the vibe of being the good bad guy which I do not like at all – and being easily influenced by others instead of listening to his gut is really disheartening because he was such an amazing character in the first book. Another thing I really hated Leon for is the fact he always repeated “You don’t need to know” like Laney is not capable of understanding or doesn’t need to know what happens when her life is on the play – really hated him for underestimating Laney and disregard her so much that he wouldn’t even take the time to explain what’s actually happening.

Even tho this time the story was less on romance and more on the action side there were still some beautiful and sweet moments peppered between the pages that will make your heart flutter and cheer for Cas and Laney. The end of the book was perfect and leaves space for a lot of questions that I can’t wait to get answered in the next book.

This review took me a bit to write honestly because I just had to sit, gather my thoughts, and emotions. Unforgiven was worse than that rickety old wooden rollercoster at the theme park, but in a good way. It pulls you up and down over and over again emotionally just to throw you a curve you where not expecting when your still trying to get your bearings after the last dip. I was not expecting the story to take the turn it did at all.
Laney isn’t even the same person she was in book 1 by the end of book 3. She went from a naive, scared girl that views the world in stark black and white and wants someone to fight her battles for her, to a strong and independent woman that takes charge in a world she now knows is hundreds of shades of grey with no white or black at all. Her willingness to recognize that the world isn’t what she always thought it was and the villains are not always what they seem is refreshing.
The romance is the core of the story and boy does it run you ragged. Laney’s grief and despair over losing Cas is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Just when you think that ship is coming home an iceberg named Luc pops up to rip a hole in what you thought was an unsinkable ship. What you thought was so solid is now questionable and you just don’t know if it will make it to dock. Apparently today is metaphor day for me. I have my theories on where the romance is going and can’t wait till the next book confirms or shreds them up.
I can honestly say I have no idea where Laney’s story will take us next. The next book is tentatively scheduled for February and I can only hope the questions left after Unforgiven do t keep me up at night until then.

This is the third instalment in the Breath of Fate series and I don’t think Angelina could have crammed anymore twists, turns and drama in here if she’d tried!

We follow Laney as she struggles with her loss after Cas is killed by Leon. Her new blossoming friendship with Avery brings new characters and we revisit old ones too, like Gladys- who I personally love!

Meanwhile, Cas suffers in Hell. Yep, that sucks big time and him being apart from Laney drove me to devour the book as I impatiently waited for them to be reunited.

I liked the new characters that are introduced, we learn more about the lore of Shadowbringers and Lightbringers as well as Gatekeepers and Hunters.

Angelina keeps us on our toes by throwing in more than one curveball and I found myself flying through the pages, eager to see where this book would go. It ended on a cliff hanger, I am soooo excited for the next book!

Laney Dawson is desperate. Now that Cas is gone, and she and Leon are on opposing sides, everything has changed. But when she hears Cas’ voice calling out for help, Laney realizes that a part of him might still be out there somehow. And she will stop at nothing to get him back. Along the way, she will have to enlist the help of Gladys, a kindly nurse who knows all about their world, and Luc, a snarky Shadowbringer who knows more than he claims to. But can Laney get to Cas before something terrible happens? Find out in “Unforgiven,” the thrilling third installment in Angelina J Steffort’s Breath of Fate series!!!

This book was completely brilliant and utterly heart wrenching. Laney really has a lot on her shoulders in this one, but like always, she handles things gracefully and compassionately. No spoilers, but I loved Cas in this one!!! As for Leon… I officially loathe him now. All in all, this book was beautifully written, and I cannot wait to read the next one!!!

I have no words. There are not enough stars allowed to properly review this book. There are no words to describe honestly how much I LOVE this series. Seriously. I just can't. My heart is so invested in these characters I can't even describe it. Cas has been this force from the very beginning and this draw for him is irresistible. Your heart yearns for him and beats for him and then bleeds for him. Irroveacbly. And then we lose him at the end of book 2. WRECKED!! Still. WRECKED> So to say I lost my crap when she hears him cry out to her is the understatement of the century. I'm gushing. But if you know Angelina's books then you know what I am talking about. This story is so beautifully heartbreaking and continues to get better with each and every installment. I just can't stress how amazing this series is and how much you need this in your life.

Laney never saw her life going the direction it took, and the impact Cas had on her life extends to her now-friend brings the two of them together. However, after hearing Cas's whispers from the grave, she isn't ready to give up on him yet. It isn't until she meets Luc that she realizes everything is not as it seems, and she might not have realized who is in her corner.

Every book this author writes is like poetry in motion. Each word breathes into the next, and the story pulls me in with a wish I'd never have to escape. That's the way it should be. I am truly looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

In a longer series, additional world building is required and I feel very strongly that this book will be a bridge to get to the next one where everything is going to go off the rails and I'm here for it. I'm planning to read the full series but this one didn't have as much forward progression as I wanted. It took place over a time period of months when the actual action was just a few days.

I appreciated Laney's very real grief over Cas and her simmering rage toward Leon. I was a smidge confused about the Luc/Cas element but I'll figure it out with the next book, I'm sure. I'm eyeballing that dad because an absentee parent who shows back up on the scene in a YA fantasy book is just suspicious.

Thank you to Angelina Steffort for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

“Unforgiven” is the third book in Angelina J. Steffort’s “Breath of Fate” Series. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Another heartwrenching, beautiful story! I'm always in awe of Angelina's writing. In the third instalment, the world-building, as usual, has been beautifully well done. Angelina did a great job bringing literal hell by bringing her story to life and having her characters develop and grow through every book. The Lightbringers and Shadowbringers that gamble with our souls when we are dead, the immortals who sell their souls to the Gatekeepers continue to break all the rules. A book that keeps you hooked from the first page, straight till the last.

Book 3 in the Breath of Fate series-Audiobook Review

Lightbringers vs Shadowbringers
Gatekeepers against Flames of Justice

Once again the narrators do a wonderful job bringing each of the characters to life using distinct voices and personality. They provide the right amount of emotion for the deep and intense scenes, as well as the lighter funny scenes.

Laney continues to search for answers. Relationships will be broken. New friendships will be formed. A lot of the book reveals background details to the soulless and the unforgiven which sets Laney on a new path. A phrase to sum up this book is "love hurts."

"Time severs all bonds."

3.6⭐️

Okay hear me out… 4.3 for Cas’ chapters, 4 for Laney’s, 3.3 for Leon’s. Averaged out then subtract some because it’s just missing something for me.

I like the concept, and parts of the story, I really do. But some of it is a bit too…? Also I hate love triangles/circles/convolutions.

All that said, I’m loving the development in the characters and what they know about life. The story is really growing too which is awesome. Gladys, two thumbs up to you. And I’ll always love Cas.

This book was such a fun addition to the series! The first two were great reads that I thoroughly enjoyed, but this one was on a whole other level. There were so many twists and turns and it was totally unpredictable. I loved the introduction of new characters and the intrigue they brought to the plot. I don't think there is a lot I can say without spoiling anything, but I am really looking forward to the next book!

Holy crap!  Poor Laney she has had a really rough year and I do t think ita going to get any easier.  Meeting luc sure brought an interesting bit to the story or Laney Leon and Cas.  I was sucked into this book so much that when I got to the end I was completely co fused and had to reread the last few pages. Now I have an agonizing wait for the next one!

The first book I was on the fence on how I felt about this series, but as each book progresses, I find each book more I enjoyable than the last. Very interesting take on what awaits us at the end of life. The love interests also keep you on your toes, unsure who will win her heart over, if any at all.

A HUGE thank you to Angelina for providing me with an ARC!

This series just gets better and better. Laney is struggling with the loss of Cas and the ever looming prescence of Leon and if that isn't all a new face has just entered the mix, Luc. A new darkbringer to take over from Cas, but not everything is as it seems and not only because Laney keeps hearing Cas in her head. Bring on book 4!

I am lost for words on this book and I read it 2 weeks ago. That shows how blown away I was because of this book.

I’m going to keep this spoiler free but most of what I want to say is spoilers.

Let’s start off with Laney and Cas, their dynamic is to die for. The way they interact and care for each other is so sweet and cute. I love how they communicate and just how much they care for one another.

Leon is still an asshole, but are we surprised. I just didn’t like his plot in the book but that’s mainly because I no longer like him as a character, he’s straight up an asshole in this book.

Ok, now a new character was introduced and he links back to so much things we were questioning but also adds so many more questions. And I will say I love him as a character, and maybe a slight villain as well.

We see Hell, that is a small spoiler but I’m not going to say how we see Hell just that we do.

I’m just casually waiting for it to be February so I can read Tethered as the ending has me shocked, but also excited to see how this changes things.

Enjoyed the story. The conceptualization of heaven and hell is intriguing. Laney really grew as a character in this novel which was relieving and satisfying. I recommend this book, excellent for YA audiences.
